Where to Get Takeout Right Now in Ocean Beach | Eater San Diego

"A brewpub serving pizza makes for a pretty popular spot in San Diego, especially in Ocean Beach. The spot is among one of five locations in Southern California but still retains its local charm. Order a specialty pie such as the cheeseburger pizza, grab a six-pack of award-winning beer and you’re set." - darlene-horn

This place was on my bucket list for a while. First of all, there is this excellent surfing vibe, that I cannot describe. But you just feel like you're on the ocean. Concerning food, I had a pizza of the day and it was great . On top, one of the longest taps I have seen is filled with excellent beer. Just to add that the staff was extraordinarily friendly and open. One of the best places I visited recently.

Google
Heard about this place from the wife but until today have never been to it. Great experience, fast service. Parking in ocean beach is a little tricky but it's worth it. Would recommend this place to any pizza lovers. They also have a small brewery in here so if you like beer that's a plus.

Google
Today was the first time I visited this place and ai loved it. It has a quite a variety of tap and can beer. Pizzas are fluffy and tasty, nicely done. I highly recommend to come with family and friends. I am not a fan of hawaiian pizza and this one really catched my eye

Google
A cornerstone of the OB neighborhood is SD. Laid back pizza joint with world class beer brewed right on site. Ingredients are fresh and the pizzas are unique and tasty. Beer is fresh and world class. The place can get packed on a weekend night but the kitchen can pump out pizzas pretty quickly. The staff is friendly and work quick. The prices are excellent with the lunch special being a standout. Overall, a neighborhood gathering spot that’s kid, dog, and human friendly.

Google
Pizza and beer was delish! They cooked the pizza fast and I brought it to the beach. As I waited I had a beer and listened to the music. Great location since I was able to walk to the beach.

Google
Very friendly and attentive staff. Great pizza. Great craft beer. What else could you ask for! You won’t go wrong here.

Google
First off the pizzas from here are absolutely divine! Then you've got the delicious beers. To top it all off the service here is outstanding! Definitely recommend this spot and will be back again very soon. Cheers 🍻

Google
Great food along with great beer! They have a large selection of beer with several different styles. Get a flight so you can try 4 different flavors. As for the food, all of it was delicious! The chicken wings were tender with great flavor. The pretzel was simple but tasty. And the pizza was cheesy with a great tasting crust. I wouldn't hesitate to order all of them again on our next visit. The only negative here is the parking, but that is common everywhere in Ocean Beach. Just keep driving around, and you will eventually find a spot.

Yelp
How did we walk by Pizza Port in OB so many times and never venture in? I can assure you, it won't happen anymore. This review is for drinks as we did not eat while we were there. We already had our hearts, minds and taste buds geared for a later stop at City Tacos. We strolled into PIzza Port and grabbed seats at the bar that had a perfect sightline to the Padres on TV. We immediately loved the OB vibe of the place. Laid back, beachy friendly. Just a cool spot to hang out and sip a few. Inside or out on the patio. The smell of fresh baking pizza in the air nearly made us pivot from City Tacos. The bartender was super cool and gave great recommendations. I had the San Diego famous Pizza Port Chronic Amber Ale. Becky chose a guest hard seltzer that they had on tap. Their selection of beer, ciders and seltzers was seemingly endless. Lots of handles to choose from. We checked out the menu and it all looked great. Apps, wings, salads, and of course pizza! Traditional to unconventional to just plain whacky pizza flavors. Pizza Port even has a pretzel appetizer for $2.50 Yes! $2.50 Looking forward to a return trip to try some of that great smelling food!

Yelp
Everything I wanted in a Margherita pizza! The pizza was not greasy at all and the ingredients tasted bright and fresh! We came pretty late and close to kitchen closing, but they took our order anyway. I don't drink alcohol but my family does, and they loved the selection of beers here. There's also a bit of arcade games, a pinball machine, and a crane game if you wanted to spend a bit more time here. Both the indoor and outdoor seating were casual seat yourself kind of seats which made for an easy experience. Would visit again!

Yelp
At long last, Steve and I finally got to try Pizza Port Brewing. Long has it been on our list and we feel very fortunate to have at long last tried one of their beers. We had the California Honey Ale which is considered a blonde ale. We both liked the beer pretty well and very much appreciated the flavors of the honey and it's natural sweetness. Very easy to drink and very easy to get more than one. I found their merchandise intriguing and bought a long sleeve shirt from the brewery.. to go representing later of course when out and about trying other breweries and hopefully a conversation starter to direct any interested persons towards Pizza Port!

Yelp
This place is a must if you are in the area. My wife and I very much enjoy this place for the atmosphere, the food, and the fact you can always catch a game there. The service is great and you should definitely order yourself a brew to enjoy with your za. I had a Mexican Street Corn kinda pizza they had on special and I was thrown off on how darn good it was. I highly recommend pizza port as it is a great place for family friends and even the kids will have a great time!

Yelp
Fun atmosphere with solid beers. Dog friendly inside and outside! Service is slow though.

Yelp
Omg the pizza and tater tots were soo good! The tater tots weren't overcooked they were so soft and yummy. The pizza with the meat on it was delicious. The wings and the cheese bread were also good but nothing too special. I really enjoyed the random decor all around. The service was very good she was very nice and helpful. 5/5

Yelp
Good customer service but you really have to do all the work when you come here have to listen for your name pick up your own food bust your own tables but other than that the hummus was wonderful some of the best I've had pizza place by far. The pizza was good atmosphere was nice, it was just you had to bust your own table and pick up your old food for me..not a of that and then they want a tip on top ..it's good food but not a fan of cafeteria style .. than want a tip for doing nothing!! You pick up your on beer and food and have tip jar why ??

Yelp
Came here on a Friday night. It was at maybe 70% capacity. Very casual vibe and lots of seating indoors and outdoors. Great place to just hang out with friends for a while. Ordered a small pizza which was good for a light dinner for two. Felt like it took forever for the pizza to come out (30 minutes?). Solid pie, no complaints. Most people are coming here to have some beer. We ordered a tasting flight as they have a wide variety on tap. Hard to beat the value of this place!

Yelp
This was one of the first places that I was introduced to upon moving to SD and has remained a favorite, not just for the craft beer but also for the pizza. While I don't come to this spot often, mostly due to the parking situation and just generally don't visit the area, I came a few days before Halloween and was pleasantly surprised that many people were dressed up. I also came for a friends b-day and luckily set up at the large table inside. There is a nice outdoor area too which happens to be great when you get overheated inside (it can get hot). Now for the beer - always a good selection in my opinion and they give you tasters. Something else I just found out is they also have wine. Beertenders have always been so friendly and while the lines do get long, the waits aren't terrible. Ah and the pizza...pretty amazing here and so many good varieties to choose from. It really lives up to their name. All in all, a Great casual hang out spot for good drinks and food !

Yelp
How have I not reviewed the place I have been coming to for years?! Every time we have a special occasion for my husband (birthday, Fathers Day), this is where he wants to come! He loves the beer and so do I! Chronic Amber is the best. But he loves to try the different varieties and it's never the same visit twice. We don't vary much on the food though. We get a regular (not party size) Cesar salad to share (croutons on the side), chicken wings with Buffalo sauce (12 please) and a large pizza with pep and sausage. And it's plenty of food for 4 of us. The food and the beer never does us wrong. We will go back many many more times.

Yelp
With a large party, it can be hard to agree on a place to eat. But, who doesn't love pizza? This place is really close to Ocean Beach, about two blocks from the water. Keep that in mind when you are looking for parking, because it takes a while to find an open space. However, the pizza here is DEFINITELY worth the parking hassle. My mom still brings up the pizza from here and she is usually so picky. Ambiance- there is a large, open floor plan here, and you can seat yourself wherever you'd like. There are picnic tables inside and outside, big enough for large parties. I believe there was string lighting and heaters outside too. It's also dog friendly inside/outside! Food- a little pricey, but worth it! Our medium pizza was around $20, from what I can remember. Their crust was crispy and they put the perfect amount of cheese and sauce. I can't remember the name of the pizza we ordered but it had ham, pepperoni, mushrooms, and bell peppers. It took about twenty minutes for our pizza to be ready, and they announced it on the intercom when it was ready. Service- great! Their menu is HUGE, with lots of different named pizzas. If you can't decide on one of their specials, you can also build your own pizza. They have all the condiments out in the open for you, in ice buckets. They even have to go boxes out in the open. I LOVE when places put condiments and to go boxes within reach because I'm shy and I hate bugging for things when the staff is already super busy. The staff are also quick to clean the tables whenever someone leaves. Ambiance- very low key here. You seat yourself, either indoor our outdoor. They have picnics table style seating and

Yelp
Came here for a quick lunch before heading to the dog beach. It's a super casual place where you order at the cashier and then they will call you when your food is ready. I really liked the menu variety and they even have lunch specials during the weekend as well! Also, dogs are allowed as long as you're outside, which is a plus for us! I got one of their lunch specials that came with a slice of the pizza of the day, garden salad, and a drink. I think the pizza of the day that time was a garlic chicken pizza? My husband decided to get a small Lahaina pizza. Both pizzas were very yum. The slice of the day was a thin style while the full pizzas are puffy! We liked both a lot and thought they were great. They also have a huge selection of beers and had some guest beers as well. If you want a casual place for pizza and want to go to the beach afterwards, this is a great place!

Yelp
This was an excellent experience the food was super good and I have always wanted to come to this brewery and we stumbled upon it during a vacation. Excellent beers for sure!!!

Yelp
Came thru for a late lunch. It was pretty empty in there, given that there is a ton of seating options (indoor and outdoor). The girl taking orders was pretty friendly and offered us some suggestions while we checked out the menu. We placed an order for a small veggie garlic pizza, some cheese sticks, and a root beer at the food register, and I order a Flying Hawaiian at the beer register. Our food was ready within 10 minutes, and came out hot and smelling delicious! Though the pizza was a small, my partner and I were able to share. The pizza was flavorful with plenty of garlic, feta, and veggies, and the crust was good too. The cheese sticks were crispy, had a great coating, and oozy cheese. The root beer was unfortunately flat... but the Flying Hawaiian was crisp and very much a Hefeweizen with banana flavor coming through. Great spot for food and brews with a chill atmosphere that's close to the beach! Highly recommend.

Yelp
The pizza from this place is usually fabulous. This time I did a DoorDash order. I strongly suggest not even thinking of ordering cilantro. For $3.75. I needed a microscope to find it. I'm pretty sure it was dried cilantro. I can't even tell you if the tiny little green dots were cilantro at all.

Yelp
Always a stop when we get to town! Great pizza! Great beer choices! Kid friendly! Puppers are welcome! Salads are huge! Puppers are welcome! Oh let me add Puppers are welcome! In all seriousness we LOVE this place! Go! You need to try it out for yourself! You're going to love it!

Kevin E.

Yelp
Very rude staff especially when it comes to closing time. My family came out of state for vacation to san diego and was yelled at by some guy when we tried to enter the restaurant. The door was open and guess what if it wasn't then we'd move along to another restaurant. There's no need to yell at people and I will never recommend this place and make sure anyone asking where to eat avoids this place

Christopher D.

Yelp
Food is as great and beer was amazing. Chicken pizza, wings and a delicious whole wheat pretzel

Yelp
Pizza Port Ocean Beach: where pizza dreams come true! I didn't personally interrogate the pizza about its toppings, but the artichokes and chicken had a better chemistry than most rom-coms. The dough was so chewy and flavorful; it's like they hired a dough whisperer. The ambiance was next-level - we snagged a spot outside, soaking in the salty Pacific Ocean air. If you didn't know better, you'd think the ocean was personally seasoning our pizza. I liked this place so much; I might need a frequent eater card. Next time you're in town, forget the compass; just follow your nose to Pizza Port. It's not just a pizza place; it's a cheesy, doughy haven with a side of ocean vibes. I'm already planning my return - maybe the pizza will spill its topping secrets next time!

Yelp
It's a must stop. The baked wings (I always request a double-bake) with Buffalo and one ( or two) discounted pints. It's serenity in SD without breaking the staycation budget. People watch., tip good, and play a round of arcade golf. Be in the vibe

Coral G.

Yelp
We arrived more than 30 minutes before closing. Were told, "we're closed, bro". So much for a late night food option. Maybe they should post a time the kitchen closes.
google avatar

Yelp
Like the pizza is alright. Not bad but not Italian top tier. I just didn't feel like it was anything special. The staff was very polite especially with how busy they were. The whole place is packed on Saturdays. I would comeback for the cheap beer deals. I would say I like the beer more than the pizza.
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
This place is a staple for the beach communities in San Diego and super easy to get to if you're in OB. It's like a comfort place for my friends and I to grab beers, salad and pizza. We like sitting outside but it's also fun with bigger parties too. Easy order at the counter and you don't have to split checks. It's very casual, but that's OB. If you want fine dining head about 15miles north to La Jolla

Yelp
I love coming to Pizza Port with my friends over the years. I remember coming here a lot when we were younger and playing all the arcade machines while we waited for the pizza to be done. Then of course begging our parents to let us keep playing after we ate (and for more quarters) This place is so nostalgic and many fun memories were made here. The pizza is great too (:
google avatar

Yelp
Our 2nd time ever going to a Pizza Port mainly due to their beer selections (per my hubby). Though this is my first time eating food at a Pizza Port. Food - I ordered the gfree laguna. It was good but I wish it was a cauliflower crust. Not too impressed with the gfree crust but thankful they have a gfree option. I also ordered June Shine "midnight painkiller". Hubby ordered his own bbq pizza. He highly enjoyed his. We ordered tots for the little guy but unfortunately they weren't cooked enough so he didn't partake at all...they weren't crispy. It's a happening place for sure. A fun casual environment.

Yelp
Great pizza and beer! Fed two adults and two kids plus a six pack to take home for $40. Doesn't get any better than this:)

Yelp
One of the nice things about living in Arizona is that we have a good relationship with many of the local craft breweries in southern California. So that means I get to sample many of the beers that are brewed here at Pizza Port Brewing back home. But it is still nice to put a face to a name and drink a beer at the brewpub that brews it. My first exposure to Pizza Port beer was when their Bacon & Eggs beer at a Whole Foods in Phoenix caught my curiosity. I was on my back home to Phx and wanted to grab a quick bite before my road trip back. I found this Pizza Port Brewing location in Ocean Beach. This location is just blocks away from the beach. I had such a good time hanging out here. I met up with my brother and we did their two slice and a beer lunch deal. Wow - Pizza Port not only makes good beer, they make good pizza. I had their signature Sharkbite Red Ale and a slice of Bacon Red Onion Pizza. There is an awesome community vibe here at Pizza Port and it is both dog and kid friendly. Pizza Port Brewing got their start in the late 80's and opened their first brewpub in 1992. They have a number of locations across Southern California with all locations having their own brewhouse and brewing team. Check them out - good beer, good pizza, good people.

Yelp
We were passing through the area looking for dinner before heading over to Sunset Cliffs for, what else, sunset and found this spot. It wasn't our original plan, but who can pass up pizza? There was plenty of seating inside and we were able to order fairly quickly. The pizza came out hot. I don't have anything bad to say, but nothing stood out. I wouldn't recommend it, but I wouldn't warn anyone away. It was a perfectly okay slice.
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
What a surfer vibe! Love that the beach is so close and everyone here looks so chill. It kid friendly and they have some of the best pizza on the west coast. Get yourself a cheese burger pizza and a pitcher of chronic and you'll be fine. Peace
google avatar

Emma B.

Yelp
Beer was good, pizza was good. Loved the vibe, very nostalgic, 90s pizza place. The speaker calling out ready orders was a little too loud. Was able to order half and half, we did Monterey and OB. We both preferred OB, though the portobello mushrooms didn't come out in large slices like the photo. Free pump your own ranch too. Recommend to a friend. Only complaint a little bit too much marinara sauce towards the crust.
google avatar

Erika P.

Yelp
Bartender was the nicest guy. I wanna say his name was Carl, but anyways he was great at describing all the drinks and gave us samples. I went with the honey blonde ale and it was so refreshing! Accompanied it with a generous slice of cheese pizza and I was a happy girl. Come check out this pizza spot that brews their own beer. Are you kidding me?! Yes please!
google avatar

Jessica G.

Yelp
Very nice location. We ordered two appetizers and two pizzas and it took them over 40 min to get them done. We also had to stand for about 15 min before being able to secure a table on a Friday night. So, if you're up for it, make sure to mentally prepare to stand up for a bit and wait a while for your food. It is worth the wait though! My Carlsbad pizza was really good compared to other locations. It is a bit loud due to the high amount of people but very family friendly. Overall 7/10.
google avatar

Mandi B.

Yelp
Hey hey hey, vegan food options in OB! Shared a vegan pizza here on a recent trip to the area and was pleasantly surprised! Love the generous veggie toppings on the pizza. The crust is absolute perfection as well. Would definitely come back here if I was hungry in the area again. Friendly staff and a lot of space to hang out on patio and inside.
google avatar

Denise V.

Yelp
I had such high hopes because of all the hype about the pizza. Now I'm very picky when it comes to pizza and I was told they had amazing Neapolitan style crust pizza. The environment is cool and the staff is great but the flavor just wasn't there for me. It had a similar taste to Dijiorno pizza. I thought the Solano would have more flavor but the shrimp taste like plain boiled shrimp with no flavor.
google avatar

Patrick C.

Yelp
This place has seating inside and outside. A great beer selection with a lot to choose from that covers all types of beers. I had the west coast and the blonde ale and both were amazing The pizza had an amazing taste to it

Chrissy D.

Yelp
We walked by this place and were very pleased we checked it out. Fun atmosphere and excellent pizza! Great people watching also
google avatar

Kevan L.

Yelp
The pizza here is low quality overly thick doughy crust hidden by a disproportionate amount of toppings... chicken wings covered in un rendered fat, not crispy...that they just throw in the oven .... They ask you if you want different sauces but charge more to sauce them differently .. ya no thanks ... and the only reason why we even come here is the kids like the video games which are rudely overpriced at over a 1$ per credit and usually broken.. and the food comes out 1 item at a time every 7-10 minutes expect them to call your name multiple times ... So much for eating with your companions at the same time.. The staff is rude, unexperienced , and not friendly and I wouldn't recommend coming here. Save your money and your time Lames

Yelp
It's been 3 years since my last trip to San Diego, but as soon as I got to OB you know I stopped at my fave pizza spot. This time, they had an outdoor patio in the parking lot and on this beautiful December day, it was everything I needed. Loved the cute pups chilling with their people too. I changed up my order from the Laguna to the Ocean Beach and WOW!! The fluffiest crust topped with the usual sauce and mozzarella with butternut squash, portobellos, asparagus, roasted red peppers, gorgonzola and bacon. It might be my new favorite. The gorgonzola was creamy and paired well with the crispy bacon. I savored every bite. Of course, it wouldn't be a trip to Pizza Port without trying a tasty brew. The bartender recommended the Secret Swami, a west coast IPA. Perfect pour and it went down very well. They sell them in a 6-pack to-go, so you know I'll be back to grab one on my way out of town. So glad I got to stop by again. Thanks for being so reliable, Pizza Port!
google avatar

Sherylynn S.

Yelp
I always go to the one in Imperial Beach and this one is similar but more options with drinks and parking is difficult to find nearby. I also love that they have different kinds of salad!! The pizzas were soooooooooooooooOooooOoooo good!!! I can't pick one but I love them all!!! My friends ordered their own and I had one slice pizza per order . My favorite is Spinach with Garlic and Artichoke, ohhhh mannnnn now I'm hungry talking about this lol Speaking of more option- IB doesn't have wine or kombucha drinks but this one do!!! The tables are first come first serve. Bathroom are available.

Yelp
Good, brews, music and service is great! Ham and Pineapple small pizza was so good, the dough is amazing. Love coming here. Eat here often. Hands down best pizza.

Yelp
A really cool and laid-back pizza joint near the beach, Pizza Port serves up great pizzas and plenty of different beers. No frills when it comes the overall pizza menu but there are a couple of "more-unique" pizzas that I will definitely come back and try. The Lahaina is Pizza Port's take on the classic Hawaiian but instead of regular ham, they use Canadian Bacon and they also add bell peppers and onions which I really enjoyed. It's not too pineapple-forward since the other veggies help balance out the overall sweetness. The Ocean Beach pizza was amazing! Plenty of veggies with a generous helping of bacon crumble on-tip, this was soooo gooooodddd. I'll admit that I'm not the biggest fan of gorgonzola cheese since it reminds me slightly of goat cheese, but since it's combined with the traditional mozzarella, it was a really good way to introduce a new flavor without it being overpowering. We got small pizzas and they start at around $10 which is really reasonable and enough food for 1 person. But admittedly I could probably do a medium if I was really hungry (or at least try lol). The crust was fluffy, chewy, and soft. The only nitpick I have is I wish the ratio of cheese and toppings took up more of the overall pizza size. The crust alone takes up about 1/3rd of the slice. But honestly Pizza Port is amazing and I can see myself being a regular here.

Yelp
I have been to the other pizza ports, but this was the first time to the ocean beach location. I love pizza port so I wasn't expecting anything different from the other locations. Great vibes in OB with a long outdoor patio with seats! It was early dinner on a Thursday so it wasn't busy and the food came out in a timely manner. I ordered the Lahaina 10" and it was the perfect amount of pizza for me to have yummy leftovers the next day. The Canadian bacon works so well vs the little cubed ham you usually get. Good ratio of pineapple throughout. I'm not a huge bell pepper fan but it worked, I liked it. It was almost a 5 star but I wish it was a little less crust and a little more cheese/topping. The crust is good, don't get me wrong, I just wish it was a little more balanced out. I love pizza port and will frequent them when I need that pizza fix. Lunch is great as well with their slices specials!

Yelp
Fresh beer they make their own and carry other dope brewers offerings. Make and order at the counter, pick a seat, enjoy the music, and make friends. They had an Oceano Hazy recommended to me by the bartender, it was exactly what I was looking for, even packed two Crowlers to take back to the Bay. Great pizza, thin but with a nice crust bubble and flavorful; I had a pesto mushroom combo and went back for another. Nice salad in a combo, had the ceasar and was happy as this isn't a typical special offered at other breweries I have liked. I wish I lived closer to this place.
google avatar

Marleen R.

Yelp
3 stars Because it started out great! Years ago' But they have been slowly lacking in ingredient quantity- quality is still good' just like the first time, but we did notice the amount of ingredients on pizza slowly decrease Hopefully next time we go back it goes back to being 5 star generously on pizza ingredients! Still an awesome place though!
google avatar

Joseph E.

Yelp
Food is always awesome. Today the guy with the grey beard didn't want to give me my military discount when he said he would. Other than that we ordered the Roma and Bacon Cheeseburger pizza. They messed up our order and gave us a BBQ Chicken by accident, still have it to us anyway. If you want military discount watch out for Grey Beard. Rest of the staff is great. Other than that, great pizza.

Yelp
I have only done pick-up/ take-out orders but have been satisfied every time! I continue to go back time after time. It's super convenient making online pickup orders. Everyone is always super nice at the register as well. I do wish they had root beer though (I always crave root beer with pizza).
google avatar

Chelsea J.

Yelp
You can't beat the prices of the lunch specials. I really liked the options for lunch, one slice, a salad and a beer was like 8 bucks! The pizza slice was elevated frozen pizza in my opinion, but this was a super cheap lunch on our way to the beach. The place is huge and there's indoor and outdoor seating. The slices came out right after we paid which was nice.

Yelp
We stopped in here for a late night Saturday (2/11/23) evening. 5 stars for their impeccable beers on tap and their February 2023 Pizza of the Month. We asked if the pizza of the month had a name and were told it's just the pizza of the month. I ordered a Garlic pizza with no mushrooms (a vegetarian that doesn't like mushrooms, go us!) . The crust on both pizzas were amazing! I was more in love with the Pizza of the Month for sure. The garlic pizza had mega tomato chunks that were taking up most of the slices. I'm going to fail here and say I wish I remembered all the 3-4 beers we ordered. There was one when we were closing that my boyfriend and I shared and loved it so much we wanted to look into getting a whole keg! Nonetheless, this business gets 5 stars for great pizza, incredible beer options, and for staying open late on Saturday for those who are nocturnal can feast in peace. The services was straight-forward and to the point. This place even has some video games on the side and some good looking merch for your purchase consideration as well.

Yelp
I'm honestly not sure what the hype is around this place. It is dirty, crowded, and extremely touristy. I ordered a large pepperoni pizza and it tasted like a Costco pizza but for triple the price. I was excited to try them out but unfortunately was not very impressed.

Yelp
9:16pm Today we came in for pizza after my daughters game. And we were turned away by the female at the register. Saying the kitchen was closed. It was very rude and unfriendly. Unless I missed it on a sign where does it say no more service after 9pm place was full also and people still getting their orders. Kids just wanted pizza NEVER again coming here.
