The Best Restaurants on East Passyunk Avenue in Philadelphia | Eater Philly

"This new addition to East Passyunk is from an established pizzeria that’s know for their Italian salads, generous servings of pasta, tasty sandwiches, scrumptious strombolis, and a plenty of pizza options. Pro-Tip: Their margarita pizza and meatballs with ricotta are surefire first bites." - Ernest Owens

Google
I’ve been on a pizza quest for the best pizza in New York and Philly for the past week and I think I found it right here. This place is awesome. The owners are obsessed with providing the highest quality pizza, appetizers, and entrées you can imagine. The hospitality is on point. Overall, you gotta give this place a try. It will change your life.

A nice locally owned place to get out for a bite to eat. The Margherita pizza could’ve used more cheese to even out the sauce which by the end became kind of overwhelming. Although I left feeling disappointed despite the high marks in previous reviews, make no mistake that the pizza was still delicious. Washing it down with some authentic Italian Peroni Beer on tap was a bonus. Service was slow, as if they were overwhelmed with a Saturday evening crowd. Perhaps a hit or miss place between getting a very good pizza and a great pizza. Worth the stop if you’re in the area.

It was a really nice small setup—nothing fancy but had that cozy feel. Tried their sourdough pizza and honestly, it was amazing… thin, crispy and full of flavour. And that bread basket with cheese dip was just wow—fresh, warm and the dip was so creamy and tasty. Loved the overall vibe and food!

Our first time here! So good!! Our bartender was awesome I wish I got his name!! We only stopped in quickly had some fries (delicious) and drinks. Espresso Martini is a must get when you go!!! Can't wait to go back

Wow. Incredible. Went here for the first time today. I will be coming here once a week for the rest of my life. Happy hour is sensational. I can’t wait to try everything.

Marrah's wasn't open yet so we decided to give Pizzata a try. The atmosphere was cozy, but basic and the staff was friendly enough. Maybe it was an off day, but the service was slow for a simple pizza order, taking about 40 min from sitting to receiving our food. The pizza caponata was tasty and definitely a cut above your typical pizzeria. The crust was very tasty and a bit thicker than what you get a Marrah's, which will no doubt appeal to some. But that's the problem, it's a block away from Marrah's, which in my opinion, has the superior pie. But it's all subjective and I would recommend giving Pizzata a try.

This is a must stop Pizza joint that also serves delicious Italian food. The bread/crust is fantastic. Good beer selection. If I still lived in South Philly I'd be eating here weekly.

Google
Great spot! Great service. Get a reservation! Excellent food - we had meatballs, arugula salad, two pizzas and our server made a perfect wine recommendation. All five of us loved our food. Only downside was it was very hot upstairs and when the trivia started it was very loud even upstairs and hard to carry a conversation.

Yelp
Would have been five stars They have great food, an i teresting menu, the sidewalk cafe wxperience is pleasant, the server may have been new. Maybe distracted, but getting a beer from this guy was way too difficult. Also it can be annoying when is takes a while for the server to remove the. empty plates, this may look like an abandoned table but we are waiting for more drinks and food. We have only wmpty glasses at the moment. I wonder how long desert will rake to come out.

Yelp
Sat upstairs and service was a little slow, but super friendly. DRINKS I'll never get this and I know it happens elsewhere, but our table of 6 got one food menu for each person and only one drink menu for the table to pass around. The draft list was only available scrawled on a tattered piece of receipt paper from the server. Why?? I ordered a draft beer, and was mistakenly brought a canned option from the same brewery. Felt bad sending it back, so I said I'd drink it. Once it was on the table, I realized the can was luke warm at best and the pint glass it came with was red hot, fresh out of the dishwasher. I did order the original draft beer next, but it was also barely above room temp. I normally would have had another drink, but stopped ordering after that. STARTERS Started with the ricotta bread board which was pretty tasty, but the bread arrived all stacked up like a log cabin on a faux slate plastic slab, and the ricotta was in a mason jar that was a bit hard to serve and share. This was the best thing of the night. Also had the calamari which came mixed with fried zucchini. Tasted just okay, but the portion was very small. The table tried some other apps that didn't get any super positive reactions. MAIN Got the eggplant parm sandwich, and it was brought to the table in two pieces since it comes on the same slate-style plastic slab that the bread board was served on, and the server said everything tends to fly off the slab when they bring it out. The sandwich was a decent size, but it was barely warm, and it tasted like it was fried in old, stale oil. The roll it came on tasted like it's baked with the same sourdough they use for the pizza, but it was just too much - it might work for the pizza when it's covered in sauce and cheese and other toppings, but as a giant sandwich roll, the sourness was the only think you could taste and was just really tough to bite into as each half of the roll was like 2" thick. Between the stale eggplant and sour bread, the flavor was really off. It came with a side of fries served in one of those novelty mini fryer baskets. They were alright. Maybe it was an off night, but between the cold food and warm drinks, underwhelming flavors, and the silly plating of things it was overall a bust. Probably 2.5 stars but the server was cool. It all just made me miss Birra even more.

Yelp
Service: 5/5 Ambiance: 3.5/5 Food: 3.5 Calabrese: could have added a bit more hot honey to enhance the flavor Romana: just okay. A bit too salty for my liking.

Yelp
Vibes: minimalistic, intimate; bring a friend or a few Tasting notes: - Panzanella: just the right amount of sweet; well mixed in terms of textures and dressing coating; good size for two people - Arancini: served piping hot with an incredibly crunchy coating that does not crumble with the crack of a spoon; smooth, creamy, umami interior with lovely surprises of meat; tomato sauce is deep in flavor; overall a balanced, not too heavy dish - Capricciosa: loved the pieces of ham and fresh basil; excellent tang to dough; a fun pizza with a lot going on Other thoughts: - weeknight later in the evening was able to get a table without a wait - fairly quick turnaround from ordering to hot food landing on the table from the kitchen Impression: excited to come back to try the rest of the big menu with friends!

Yelp
I highly recommend to make reservations. I pass by every day and it's always crowded. I came here on Friday night and it was packed. There was a couple who didn't make a reservation left because the wait time was too long for them. Our waitress was nice and attentive. She gave a good recommendation light beers. My husband got a spicy cocktail unfortunately it was not good. Eggplant parm appetizer: beautiful presentation. Round eggplant cutlets were stacked and topped with mozzarella served with marinara. It was breaded well and the marinara was well seasoned. Calamari: big slices of calamari served with marinara for dipping Pizza: very crunchy crust all over. The salsiccia pizza had drizzled hot honey with several whole basil leaves. My husband and his friend really enjoyed it. Margarita pizza: fresh mozzarella with whole basil leaves and shaved Parmesan. I wish it had more sauce.

Yelp
A busy and bustling spot for great pizza. The service was excellent and the food was exceptional. To start we got the fried calamari which was very lightly breaded and delicious. Slightly on the smaller portion size but perfect for two especially since the cuts were big. Last, we got the vodka roni which was so delicious and made with homemade vodka sauce. Everything was so fresh! The pizza was perfect - not too thick, not too thin! The crust was amazing as well. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Much larger Pizzata in a great area. Pizza is reliably quite quite good! They also tend to have seasonal specials

Yelp
Came for happy hour. Generous portion and great food. Ordered the pizza, arancini, meatball, and cheesecake eggrolls.

Yelp
Pizza, lasagna and short rib were very good. I do not recommend the eggplant parmesan or the rigatoni with vodka sauce.

Yelp
We had such a great time at this location. Everything we had was delicious. The fried burrata was something I had never had before and it was delicious! The Salsiccia pizza was also amazing. The vibes inside were also great inside. The hostess was awesome and so was our server. The people sat next to us were also super nice and having a great time. Great vibes all around.

Yelp
The place is good . Nice happy hour but the pizza they had before they changed it to pizzata was so much tastier .

Yelp
Great location; outdoor dining spots are best for people watching. Grabbed a quick lunch while visiting from San Diego. Thumbs up for the arancini, Caesar salad, and the HUGE Stromboli. Wait staff was really attentive too.

Yelp
Pizzata on 22nd street has been one of my favorite pizzas in downtown Philly. When the new location opened on East Passyunk we were excited to sit and enjoy their pizza in a larger restaurant. I called the new location at 6:20 pm to put our name on the waitlist and was told it would be around an hour. We arrived 35-40 minutes later and my partner kindly asked as gentleman at the front counter if our table would be ready early, if not we would go have a beer across the street at Human Robot. The host responded to her in a demeaning tone which came across as "I told you an hour, it has not been an hour." After having a beer across the street, we walked back over at 7:30 to ask about if/when a table might be ready. The same host said tables weren't opening as quickly as he anticipated, but we were next on the waitlist (which I physically saw on paper) and it would be 20-30 more minutes. By no means his (or the restaurant's) fault, so no worries we waited outside while my father in-law sat at the end of the bar, near the host's table, to have a drink. 40 minutes later (now almost an hour after we were told we would be seated) we saw 2 other parties of the same size walk in and the host seated them. While at the bar my father in-law overheard the host tell the staff to ignore the waitlist and "move things around" to seat the other two parties that just walked in. Due to our experience and the poor customer service at this Pizzata location, we will no longer order from either this or the original location.

Yelp
I ate this pizza the past 3 nights. My new favorite pizza on passyunk. They took la scalas and made it much better with much better pizza but the rest of the menu is the same for the most part.

Yelp
Pizza was meh, I'd put it at Chuckie Cheese quality. Staff was rude and unreasonable. Decent building and location but not worth the price.

Shannon G.

Yelp
Probably the best customer experience I've ever experienced. The host was extremely kind and I've experienced this multiple times. Their food is always delicious, best experience of my life.

Kathy C.

Yelp
Meatballs were good, but only luke warm. I should have double-checked the price of the broccoli rabe... One very small plate was $5 and it was ok.
