Sat upstairs and service was a little slow, but super friendly.
DRINKS
I'll never get this and I know it happens elsewhere, but our table of 6 got one food menu for each person and only one drink menu for the table to pass around. The draft list was only available scrawled on a tattered piece of receipt paper from the server. Why?? I ordered a draft beer, and was mistakenly brought a canned option from the same brewery. Felt bad sending it back, so I said I'd drink it. Once it was on the table, I realized the can was luke warm at best and the pint glass it came with was red hot, fresh out of the dishwasher. I did order the original draft beer next, but it was also barely above room temp. I normally would have had another drink, but stopped ordering after that.
STARTERS
Started with the ricotta bread board which was pretty tasty, but the bread arrived all stacked up like a log cabin on a faux slate plastic slab, and the ricotta was in a mason jar that was a bit hard to serve and share. This was the best thing of the night. Also had the calamari which came mixed with fried zucchini. Tasted just okay, but the portion was very small. The table tried some other apps that didn't get any super positive reactions.
MAIN
Got the eggplant parm sandwich, and it was brought to the table in two pieces since it comes on the same slate-style plastic slab that the bread board was served on, and the server said everything tends to fly off the slab when they bring it out. The sandwich was a decent size, but it was barely warm, and it tasted like it was fried in old, stale oil. The roll it came on tasted like it's baked with the same sourdough they use for the pizza, but it was just too much - it might work for the pizza when it's covered in sauce and cheese and other toppings, but as a giant sandwich roll, the sourness was the only think you could taste and was just really tough to bite into as each half of the roll was like 2" thick. Between the stale eggplant and sour bread, the flavor was really off. It came with a side of fries served in one of those novelty mini fryer baskets. They were alright.
Maybe it was an off night, but between the cold food and warm drinks, underwhelming flavors, and the silly plating of things it was overall a bust. Probably 2.5 stars but the server was cool. It all just made me miss Birra even more.
