Talk about a Friday evening well spent. The food, the drinks, the ambience all rival the best of St. Louis.
The menu? Extensive. We were pleasantly surprised by the plethora of pizza options Pizzeoli offers. An array of sauces, cheeses, proteins, and unorthodox toppings adorn the menu. We wanted to try every single offering, but knew that was not in the cards. Finally, we decided to leave it to chance and had a coin flip tournament where the Meatball reigned victorious. Boy, did chaos choose wisely. The meatballs were juicy and flavorful. The pizza was topped with a white sauce and a generous amount of creamy cheese. The dough is super thin yet still flimsy. A skill pizzeoli has perfected. The crust is airy, crispy, and beautiful to just stare at.
For drinks the water lily and fat washed tropical negroni were the choices. Both are quite complex with respect to flavor, but still enjoyable. The negroni was savory, chocolatey, and banana-y. I really enjoyed it. The balance was not completely there, but once again, still a solid drink. The water lily was great, too. Much more balanced in my opinion. The gin does not over power the drink as the orange liqueur provides enough brightness and fruitiness to offset the botanical of the gin and creme de violette. Basically an aviation with orange liqueur instead of luxardo.
The garlic knots have a strangle hold on me. They are dense but still airy and light. Buttery with the pepper glued to the outside. Oh, they just melt in your mouth. Sorry, things are getting sensual just thinking about them.
The wings were superb as well. Incredibly crispy and that bourbon butter bbq is the real deal. I want to try the pineapple habanero soon. The sauce was smooth, tangy, and rich. The right amount of sweetness with the kick of bourbon. Of course, all melded together by the butter.
Pizzeoli far surpassed expectations for me. They were incredibly busy and our server, shelby, warned us of that up front. She kept great pace and we were able to enjoy a beautiful St. Louis evening on their street adjacent patio.
I need to touch on the vibes before I close this thing out. It was quiet and intimate while still maintaining a bustling feel. I like how despite the busyness it still felt quiet and orderly. Some places make you feel rushed or you just see people moving fast. At pizzeoli, you just move at your own pace and enjoy the show.
