The Pizza Was Pretty Good But The Process Of Getting The Pizza. Not. So. Much. & It’s OVERPRICED! My Friend Got A Mac & Cheese Slice & I Got A Slice Of Cheese. I’ve Never Been To A Pizza Place That Charges The Same Price For Plain Cheese Slices & Specialty Slices Until Now. They Also Charge $1 For A Pizza Box That Was New To Me As Well. The Cashier Didn’t Ask Us How We Wanted It (Box Or Plate) So I Didn’t Even Think About It Until I Saw The Receipt. Even Though We Paid For A Box We Got Our Pizza On Plates & When I Told The Cashier He Gave Me A Box & Asked Me For A Tip LOL.

Google
This is a must anytime I’m in the city, these slices are consistently fantastic. Always polite service. You actually taste the bacon on the bacon pepperoni, the buffalo chicken is juicy and tasty.

Google
My friends and I had a deeply disappointing experience at this establishment. We came in simply looking to enjoy a pizza and were shocked to be charged $60 for a single pie, which felt extremely overpriced for what we received. While we were waiting to pay, several other customers made inappropriate and unwelcoming comments toward us, suggesting we weren’t welcome because of how we were dressed and even telling us to “go to a straight pizza place.” At no point did we speak negatively about the restaurant, we were merely surprised by the high price. The entire situation left us feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. The pizza itself was average at best and certainly did not justify the cost. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this place based on our experience.

Dae M

Google
One star not only because the pizza is overpriced and mediocre, but the security was speaking very inappropriately to a homeless man I was buying pizza for! The cashier was rude as well! Stay away! I usually add a photo with every review, but seriously just stay away because of these things.

Bahaa Hm

Google
Pizza was oily and overpriced The service friendly though

miranda gilmer

Google
Seriously over priced. Paid $80 for 8 slices. When I tried to take togo containers one of the employees snatched them out of my hands. Completely disrespectful. Ans the pizza was bland and under seasoned. Huge disapointment.

Aylin T

Google
Gay pizza is a Late night pizza place. The square pizza was good but the regular one sucks. Very over priced and they charge you for the box without telling you. 27$ for 3 slices

Kevin K

Google
Hands down some of the worst pizza I have had in my life, I can’t wrap my head around a business justifying the prices on this low quality of food. Price gouge for people coming in after going to bars. Stay away
google avatar

Cassidy D.

Yelp
honestly when you're drunk, anything hits. this pizza hits. people who complain about the price can go home and make their own pizza from scratch at 2am. also they were nice!
google avatar

Seriously D.

Yelp
$9 a slice for average pizza... nope. Who is paying this? I don't understand. Just okay pizza for really a lot of money
google avatar

Lisa K.

Yelp
Tiny place take out only. I thought it was called "Homo Hut" the pizza I had.. a reheated slice was BoomB. As in sooo good. Thin crust perfection. Dough was perfect tomato, ricotta.. my only complaint is every time I tried to go back. It was closed. It has funny hours. Maybe it's only open evenings.. check to see if they're open and if they are thank me later.

Tommy P.

Yelp
Insanely expensive!!! Other reviews mention criminal, and they're right. You've even got people coming from NYC telling you you're pizza is crazy expensive! Stop gouging and taking advantage of drunk people and the community! You could surely still make money hand over fist without these astronomical prices. I've been coming here since before it re-opened a decade ago. Gay Pizza saved me many a night after a night out and being open as late as they are. I'd happily grab 3-4 different slices whenever I came in. In the last few years I started noticing the bill approaching $40 every time. huh??? looking back at reviews pre-COVID I saw prices more what I was expecting, $6 for a specialty slice, still high but tolerable. Nearly $10 for a slice now is just ridiculous. Dont support greedy, price-gouging business owners like this.
google avatar

Evan G.

Yelp
$9.25 per slice of pizza is criminal pricing!! I don't give a damn that they are open late and located in the gayborhood. It's a reheat slice shop. The pizza itself was okay enough but every bite made me angry thinking that it was almost $1.15 per bite.
google avatar

Jillian B.

Yelp
Was looking for a late night snack when we found this place was still open, so we grabbed 4 slices. My personal favorite was the white slice, though the Buffalo chicken wasn't bad either. I wasn't a huge fan of the macaroni or pizza slices. Was also pretty expensive, but service was quick and good. It's not a bad option, but seems to really be the only option.
google avatar

Denis K.

Yelp
Before diving into this 2 star review, please understand that this was not my first visit to Pizzeria Cappelli aka "Gay Pizza". The only positive side of this establishment is that it's open late, and I mean very late. The space inside is tiny and can get packed in seconds with little wiggle room. The pizza itself is nothing to brag about. The pizza is made for a night out drinking, in fact, it's the Jack in the Box of pizza. If you want ANYTHING at all in your stomach after a night out....this is your place. Anything different? go somewhere else! There are plenty of other places in the city that will do you better!!
google avatar

Benny B.

Yelp
I wouldn't order from here again. I don't like the sauce and forget about the soda... ****Soda is extremely expensive.

Omega E.

Yelp
Pizza was fabulous!!! Was a nice escape from the day. Had been sight seeing all day and was close to the state penitentiary that we were going to visit.
google avatar

Miles A.

Yelp
Yeah the pizza here is both below average taste and extremely price gouged to prey on drunk people. $8-10 per slice is insane, just walk out instead of even wasting your money. The only redeeming quality is it being open late. This place would've gone out of business if 99% of their business model was just regular hours. Save your time and money and pass going here. Junk

Morgan H.

Yelp
Atmosphere is always interesting and the front door guy and the one guy who works there are great. 9.26$ for a terrible slice of pizza. They service the drunk and drinking crowd. Still, I think its extremely over priced and the taste and cost reflect the review.

Jeffrey G.

Yelp
$30 for 3 slices you cannot be serious. This is a scam, I wish I would have checked reviews beforehand. The day this place closes down will be a joyous day

Alberto S.

Yelp
Pizza is extremely expensive, they prey on drunk people. 2 stars because pizza was ok. Avoid if possible, they will charge you 40$ for 4 slices. Very disappointed.
google avatar

Michelle P.

Yelp
Quick service, nice staff, excellent pizza. What more can one ask for. If you ask for recommendations, trust the vegetarian- he won't lead you astray!
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
Highway Robbery. Here's the deal with this place. It's open super late in a really poppin part of the city. People who have had a long night of drinks and partying will naturally gravitate towards a place like this serving late night munchies with little care of the prices. For those who are looking for a slice or two whom aren't drunk/high beware. Three slices can EASILY cost you close north of 20 dollars. No matter the quality, that is a sin for pizza. Pizza is mid, in case anyone was wondering.
google avatar

Adolph H.

Yelp
Sometimes overrated but not really, sometimes Cappelli really good. Sometimes eh. Always ok. No worry about it, love it.

Lulu M.

Yelp
The pizza here is the best around center city and the employees are always so kind and friendly! Normally come in later during the weekends but stopped by this afternoon for a couple slices and the man who was working was so outgoing and helpful - he recommended a great slice and made our visit memorable. Of course we will be coming back. Always leave here with a smile on my face!

Kimberly F.

Yelp
You people should be ashamed of yourselves for ripping your customers off. My daughter went there after leaving Woody 's as your establishment was the only one open. You charged her $70+ f@&king dollars for a pepperoni pie plus two specialty slices and then had the nerve to stare her down when it came to adding a tip on an absurd cost for disgusting pizza. If that were me, I would have told you to shove your food up your f@&king a$$!!! I will warn others to skip your poor establishment, one that has been shut down by the city before!!! SHAME ON YOU!!!

Mickey H.

Yelp
honestly praying for the downfall of this business. $30 for 3 pieces of subpar pizza is absolutely not worth it. it took 15 minutes to get me plain slices, absolutely not worth it. the nerve of these people to ask for tips on top of this is insane. again, hoping they can't keep up this model of robbing he greater philly community. a $10 slice of cheese pizza should be criminal. avoid this place if you can!
google avatar

Josh H.

Yelp
Decent pizza, but a bit pricey when ordering by the slice. We called to place an order and got a voice mail stating that they are open from 7pm to 4am and only offer walk in customers. They do NOT deliver. Luckily, it was one 1 block alway from our hotel. We ordered slices because it was late and didn't want to wait. They had a huge variety of options to choose from, so that was nice. They were pre-made and were just reheated in the oven. The pizza was good, but nothing too special. I would eat here again even with the prices being a little high, but everything in the area near her is a little high. Worth checking out if you need some late night grub.

Jennifer K.

Yelp
Came here to see why i had a charge of almost $40 dollars for literally 3 slices of pizza. Wow. Didn't realize the price when purchasing or even think to ask because it was 3 slices... insanity. Never coming here again. Pizza was just okay nothing special. $20 is pretty much the price of an entire pizza so wtf.

Jake M.

Yelp
Was wildly overcharged and screamed at by employees after asking about being overcharged. Avoid unless you like mediocre pizza at 4x the cost
google avatar

Carla H.

Yelp
I do not plan to place another order from this establishment. The sauce did not meet my preferences, and it would be best to forget about it altogether.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
The pizza is great and Bobby is the man. We were in a bind with a starving volleyball team and he truly hooked us up. Great food better people!!

Yelp
Finding late-night pizza in Philadelphia is quite difficult. I gripe about it all the time. You have Insomnia Cookies at nearly every turn (open till the wee hours of the morning, bless their souls) but my needs after a night out involve pizza, not a flippin' cookie. Pizzeria Cappelli was within walking distance of our last stop, and I successfully swayed my crew to go the pizza route with me. This pizzeria is located in a super fun part of town, and the people watching at 1:00 AM was fab. The employees had a great sense of humor, and they kept the line moving. We wound up hitting Insomnia Cookies afterward (as per) but my soul was warmed by our pizza excursion. I will cease my smack-talking about late-night pizza being unavailable in the City of Brotherly Love.

Yelp
Best Pizzeria Ti This Day ! BUFFALO CHICKEN PIZZA !!! Best one ever . Go here and see for yourself . Won't be disappointed
google avatar

LaShonda R.

Yelp
I'm legitimately surprised by these reviews. Ordered from Cappelli's on an inebriated whim after discovering every other place was closed early a la' COVID Ana this place was happy to take our order. We ended up getting a full pie with cheese only because they didn't have non pork pepperoni or sausage options (how is that legal in Philly). We went in with zero expectations and were blown away by the taste of the pizza. The crust was the highlight of the pizza to me and the fresh melty cheese was a close second. Sauce wasn't particularly standout but nothing to complain about either. Honestly I would give them 5 stars if they got some beef pepperoni or turkey pepperoni on the menu. They should definitely fix that.

Jamie R.

Yelp
0 reviews if I could. Just got home and got 2 slices to go for almost 20$ and had a beetle running around in my pizza box. Disgusting!
google avatar

Jerrod M.

Yelp
A total racket. It was nearly $30 for three slices, and they were disgusting. From the bottom of my heart, I hope that this place burns down and that the owner spends the rest of their life eating out of the garbage. Two stars because the guy working was very nice.
google avatar

Amanda T.

Yelp
Workers were nice, service was fast. Overpriced for what you get but great for late night eats.
google avatar

Crystal W.

Yelp
It was my first time at this place. I was in the neighborhood after bar hopping in Gayborhood and was craving pizza. My friend recommended this place and there was a line out the door so I figure it must be a good place. I must be spoiled by my favorite pizza spot in St Pete and Clearwater, Florida because this place was a disappointment. I ordered the sweet chicken pizza based on the employee's recommendations. I was disappointed because I could hardly taste any tomato sauce or cheese. One slice costs $4.50 plus tax which isn't bad but I was disappointed that the pizza fell flat of my expectations of a hot, gooey cheese pizza fit for a night out after drinking.

James O.

Yelp
Great pizza! Friendly! Came in late night. Staff was fast and the pizza hit the spot

Lucia And G.

Yelp
Food is not worth the price they are charging per slice. 4 slices for $40 are you kidding? are these the same people that have been shut down already Don't get me wrong it's a great late-night stop if you are hungry but you have to advertise your prices. no ambiance to this place w/security at the door.
google avatar

Alba D.

Yelp
Needed a quick but filling bite before drinks because we practice #safedrinking in this household. I saw a bunch of people eating outside Pizzeria Cappelli on my ride to a bar so I walked over and ordered two pepperoni slices and they came out quickly and were delicious. The slices are huge so you'll get full easily and the crust was perfectly toasted and slightly crunchy. 10/10 and great for late night eats especially because nothing else around there was open at 11pm.
google avatar

Julian S.

Yelp
A friend and I ordered wings and the Sicilian pie. Absolutely delicious! For there just being two of us, it was entirely too much pizza. We made a valiant attempt but there did not seem to be an end in sight. We built our own pizza with vegetables and everything was cooked perfectly. It was a great late night snack that had us down for the count. The wings were large and cooked just right: not too soft and not too hard. I would definitely suggest ordering pizza or wings--or follow my lead and get both.
google avatar

James R.

Yelp
Ordered late night pizza. We chose the cheese pizza it was good nothing great a little greasy and pretty New York style. Overall not bad for a late snack or after you've been drinking. The delivery service was pretty terrible we received the pizza more than thirty minutes after the maximum estimated delivery time.
google avatar

Kurtis C.

Yelp
Cool looking place with a decent amount of outdoor seating, if you enjoy watching drunks and drug addicts walk by. Lots of hotels nearby but don't ask for take out orders and they do not offer any.
google avatar

Rodney M.

Yelp
Ok. I actually never walked into PC, but was down the street at a local bar Woody's. We were hungry as it was 9:00 pm. We were having great conversations with people and it was raining. So we were not motivated to go out but was hangry. The bartender actually works at PIzzeria Cappelli and said he could order a pizza for delivery to the bar. "Get out!" That is exactly what we did. BBQ chicken pizza and nachos arrived to the bar. Incredible! The food was awesome and we did not get wet. What can I say, service!!!!
google avatar

Rebecca H.

Yelp
I ordered from this place last night aka this morning for the sole reason that it was the most decent place open at 3:30am aka pretty much the only place open at 3:30am. The projected ETA was in 45-60 minutes. I passed the time by calling insomnia cookies' HQ because I couldn't place an order after 2:45 which btw is not remedied by calling the HQ. In basically exactly 45-60 minutes the food came, not a minute earlier. I was horrified when I opened up the box and saw pizza dough with tomato sauce and unidentifiable chunks (logic tells me tomato chunks) w/o cheese. I checked my confirmation email, low and behold I actually inadvertently ordered a TOMATO pie. What an idiot. It was alright, just dough with tomato sauce pretty much. I also casually slipped an order of nachos on there. Chips were stale, bagged variety. Cheese on top with some diced pepper and jalapenos. Disappointing but not enough to prevent us from completely destroying the entire thing in probably less than 5 min. I probably wouldn't order from here again unless it was the middle of the night and desperation set in.

Sarah S.

Yelp
First, this page should not be showing only one dollar sign, it should be more like 3. knew the place was up charging us when I paid $9 for a slice. And I have gotten WAY better pizza for $1 a slice. However the staff behind the counter were very nice
google avatar

Ron F.

Yelp
Horrible. If they allowed a zero I would do it. I ordered at 4:32 PM I got the pizza at 6:26 PM. I only received it after I called they said they were going to remake it but when I got it it was lukewarm so you could tell they just gave me the same Pizza. They didn't apologize but said they got confused and thought it was a pick up order.I probably would've been happy if they would have remade it but they just gave me the same pizza that was sitting there for two hours. Don't waste your money.

Yelp
This review is a warning to all non-sober customers, which, let's face it, has to be a good majority of the customers who come here to gratify the post-drinking munchies. While the food is not terrible (though also not good), you have to pay attention to what you're getting charged. I ordered 4 slices of pizza, cheese fries, and a bottle of water, and was charged $37.50. I only noticed how wrong this seemed the following day when I reviewed my credit card charges. The Square receipt rang me up for "Custom Amount," which is suspicious. Even assuming that I was getting some high quality fake cheese (hah), I was definitely stiffed a few bucks, which I do not appreciate. Stay away from this place and go get your drunk food from somewhere that will provide an itemized receipt!

Chris W.

Yelp
NO STARS. The bouncer at the the door kicked me out after grabbing two slices... payed $17 for two slices and he told me that I couldn't wait inside when it was 30degrees outside. Horrible service. Will never get slices here again. Why do they even need a door man at this little shop anyway. STAY AWAY

Charlie F.

Yelp
Lots of variety but very overpriced. It was $9.29 for 1 slice . I thought maybe they charged me for two slices by accident so I double checked with the cashier . He was friendly and said sorry but that was the cost of the one slice. A group of friends in line behind me were paying close to $50 for a few slices .
google avatar

Lauren C.

Yelp
THE BEST! I've been on an unexpected pizza kick the past few weeks and have been trying pizza all over the city... it wasn't until I found pizzeria Cappelli that I could say I found real Italian pizza. The crust is amazing, crispy on the bottom of the pizza but soft at the crust on top ingredients taste super fresh and great quality. Also they sell individual slices which is my jam. Will be coming back again and again
google avatar

Nicole K.

Yelp
The best pizza in Philadelphia. The white pizza is just to die for. Mike Cappelli knows what he's doing. And they're incredibly friendly and welcoming. And of course they know how to make a mean slice of pizza. Cannot recommend more.
google avatar

Scott M.

Yelp
I loved everything about this place. Pizzeria Cappelli AKA Gay Pizza is a late night hot for pizza lovers everywhere. You could definitely tell this place is special. Even around 3 a.m. the lines are long, which is a sure tell-tale sign that you know good food is coming out. The store itself is intimate and has that vintage pizza shop feel. To the right is are glass cases which show off the fresh pizza of the day. To the left is a table with containers of extra flavor goodness you can add to your pie - parm, Italian herbs, crushed red pepper, etc. Behind the counter you'll meet the boss, a really good looking man with a very friendly demeanor. You can tell he really cares about his guests with the pleasant way he assists everyone. I am a fan. The pizza is priced super-well. It's not expensive one bit, especially for the quality of food that you get. The pepperoni pizza slice here is flawless. Perfect crust, perfect cheese, amazing sauce, everything. Words can not describe how good it was. It is a very classic New York style slice with a beautifully savory and satisfying flavor. I try to never eat my food fast, but I ate these slices fast because the "Night Vultures" from the hotel room were eying my slice and I didn't want them to swoop in on my goodness. My friend had a slice of the sausage square pie. He loved that one big time. It had nice crumbled sausage on top and a nice layer of cheese. The Pepperoni or Cheese here will always be the boss though, however, I hope to try each pizza flavor at least once. What made this place stand out was what my friend told me about an experience. A drunk customer was yelling about "White Privilege" and gender stuff, which is cool, I believe everyone has a voice and should use their voice, but she was getting out of hand I heard. The store made sure not to let her in until she simmered down. I believe that was a great move for safety purposes. The person in question definitely deserves to discuss these important topics and they should be discussed - Just not here & not when strangers have been drinking. This is a place of pizza and Philly love & I heard that everyone in line was glad the drunk yeller left. This store has some pretty cool tees to buy for $20. I highly recommend them. I also recommend having a peek at the cute sign outside the front. You'll have a nice laugh. Overall - I give this place an A++ I wonder if they mail pizza's to "The D"? (Detroit)
google avatar

Obie G.

Yelp
Would not recommend this spot to anyone...Staying at the hotel around the corner from this spot. Waited an hour and half for the pizza to be delivered. First time they brought the wrong order. Second time, they brought a cold pizza and the wrap which wasn't wrapped at all. Never again........if I was hungry, Ive lost my appetite!!

Sam W.

Yelp
zero stars. bad fucking pizza at an ASTRONOMICAL price. the guy working the door is so rude i cried after leaving. and the pizza was $20 for TWO SLICES. Potentially the most expensive pizza in all of the state of Pennsylvania. I am flabbergasted. I would NEVER return to this establishment, it was such a terrible experience. :( this place is just taking advantage of people.
