I loved everything about this place. Pizzeria Cappelli AKA Gay Pizza is a late night hot for pizza lovers everywhere. You could definitely tell this place is special. Even around 3 a.m. the lines are long, which is a sure tell-tale sign that you know good food is coming out.
The store itself is intimate and has that vintage pizza shop feel. To the right is are glass cases which show off the fresh pizza of the day. To the left is a table with containers of extra flavor goodness you can add to your pie - parm, Italian herbs, crushed red pepper, etc.
Behind the counter you'll meet the boss, a really good looking man with a very friendly demeanor. You can tell he really cares about his guests with the pleasant way he assists everyone. I am a fan.
The pizza is priced super-well. It's not expensive one bit, especially for the quality of food that you get.
The pepperoni pizza slice here is flawless. Perfect crust, perfect cheese, amazing sauce, everything. Words can not describe how good it was. It is a very classic New York style slice with a beautifully savory and satisfying flavor. I try to never eat my food fast, but I ate these slices fast because the "Night Vultures" from the hotel room were eying my slice and I didn't want them to swoop in on my goodness.
My friend had a slice of the sausage square pie. He loved that one big time. It had nice crumbled sausage on top and a nice layer of cheese.
The Pepperoni or Cheese here will always be the boss though, however, I hope to try each pizza flavor at least once.
What made this place stand out was what my friend told me about an experience. A drunk customer was yelling about "White Privilege" and gender stuff, which is cool, I believe everyone has a voice and should use their voice, but she was getting out of hand I heard. The store made sure not to let her in until she simmered down.
I believe that was a great move for safety purposes. The person in question definitely deserves to discuss these important topics and they should be discussed - Just not here & not when strangers have been drinking. This is a place of pizza and Philly love & I heard that everyone in line was glad the drunk yeller left.
This store has some pretty cool tees to buy for $20. I highly recommend them. I also recommend having a peek at the cute sign outside the front. You'll have a nice laugh. Overall - I give this place an A++
I wonder if they mail pizza's to "The D"? (Detroit)
