Pizzeria da Ciro – Kyoto - a MICHELIN Guide Restaurant

"The painting of the Gulf of Naples and the Maradona uniform decorating the wall exude the spirit of Naples, where the chef learned to make pizza. He pursues authentic flavours and puts much effort into procuring and using Italian ingredients. He even had the oven artisan from where he trained come over from Italy to install his oven. We recommend trying the skilfully baked margherita pizza first. Not putting out appetisers is in keeping with Neapolitan tradition." - Michelin Inspector

Deserves its Michelin star. Best pizza I’ve had in Kyoto and one of the best Neapolitan style pizzas I’ve ever had. They import the their ingredients straight from Italy and you can tell! A little pricey (~¥2,500) but worth every penny/yen. You get what you pay for after all

Thank you from Canada. Easily the best pizza we’ve ever had, and we’ve had pizza all over Naples. We had to come back two nights in a row and get the Margherita. We can’t wait to come back when we visit Kyoto again. Truly amazing.

Husband and I have been dreaming of all the pizza we had in Italy years ago, and this place was just as good, if not better! So airy and the flavors were perfection! We tried both the Boscaiola and Marguerite pizzas. Boscaiola was our favorite, we're seriously contemplating if we should go again before we leave Kyoto 😆

I really wanted to go to Ciro since long time, finally I went during my trip to Kyoto and I must say it was the right choice. The pizza was delicious and light, Ciro, this is the friendly name, is a great host and he does everything. The quality of ingredients is superb and the ambience speak about Naples everywhere. If you are looking for Neapolitan style pizza, go for it. Bonus: I'm myself a pizzaiola from Naples so take my word!

Kenji brought Naples to Kyoto. If you want to eat an excellent pizza in town, go there! I am Italian and can vouch for this. His pizza is up there with the top Italian ones!

This was an unexpected surprise. I was heading for my walk on the philosophers path. The bus stopped right at this place... I wasnt planning on pizza. But this place looked so charming and there was some great advertising done as well. The kind waitress gave me an english menu. My japanese is now good enough but for foreigners this is very easy... The place is not that big. And my pizza was very quickly ready. Idk if you can pay by card. I carry always cash with me in Japan. Given how buses operate in kyoto with a flat fare of 230 yen. I might visit them again if I crave for pizza.

We had to wait a bit before there was a table, but we were served quickly once inside. The pizza is around 1600 yen for the cheapest then it can get up to 3000 yen for the more expensive kinds. It was very filling and good pizza, but the structure of the base was kind of floppy and hard to pick up. Better to eat with utensils.
