Pizzeria Davide - Review - Strip District - Pittsburgh - The Infatuation

"When DiAnoia’s opened in 2016 in the Strip District, it was instantly popular - maybe too popular - and now reservations fill up weeks in advance. When you want to impress someone enough to convince them to date you, though, it’s one of the best options. And when you want really good pizza and to show up in whatever you wore to the Steelers game, there’s Pizzeria Davide (connected to the back of DiAnoia’s). Specialty pies with toppings like bologna and pepper relish are the way to go, but bring a few friends since they only offer them in the 19-inch, extra-large size. There are outdoor picnic tables too, so if you’re here during the winter, bring a scarf, hat, and hand warmers. Though the incredibly hot cheese could probably serve the same purpose if you slipped it into your gloves. photo credit: Aimee DiAndrea" - Kenny Gould

We aren’t from the area and are here in Pittsburgh for a mini vacation. Saw quite a few recommendations for this place. So we decided to try it. We ordered a simple cheese and pepperoni pizza for a pick up order. When we picked it up, the top of the crust was black. Figured it was just the crust and brought it back to our hotel. Turns out, half of the bottom of the pizza was also black. Completely burnt and barely edible. If/when we come back to Pittsburgh, we won’t be returning here for pizza.

Google
The best pizza I've had in a while! They were very friendly and accommodating to a weird allergy I have. The Philly cheese is the best I've had in town as well.

Sarah

Google
A really solid slice of pizza. Quality cheese and sauce. The dough has a different texture than I’m used to, but I am into it. Also not sure to the sauce being on top, but it worked well. Seating options limited.

Michelle Beccarelli

Google
The pizza was delicious, hot, and fast. The traditional Philly was full of good quality meat and it wasn’t overpowered by the onions. The service was too notch too. Really chill crew and helpful. The only thing I’d say against this place is that all seating is outdoors and it was hot 🥵 but they have heaters for when it’s cool which is nice.

Ordered there pizza online through their website. Ticket time said 70-80 minutes. Mind you it was 2:45 on Thursday but fine I can wait, no problem. Got a text 2 hours later with the pizza ready. I live around the corner so I was there within 5 minutes. They could not find the pizza at first, when they did, it was already cold as if it had sat for 30 minutes. It’s good pizza but kind of disappointing when it sits for 30 minutes and gets cold. Was not in their warmer. Ohh well, I’ll still be back. Mistakes happen. Edit: After my initial review, I got in contact with the restaurant and they offered a gift card…but then never sent one. Anyway, I gave them another shot and this time they burnt the bottom of the pizza real good and still sent it out. I actually like some char but this was straight up black.

Quality. Italian soul. And New York style. Great Thinner crust, often crispy, w a hearty chew. Often feels a little sourdoughy, which most I think will like, but a few might not. Sauce is wonderfully flavorful. Cheese doesn’t standout, but in general fits into the general high standard across the whole pie. As a whole it feels like quality ingredients here. This is the Italian soul. Simple quality ingredients. Cooked well. Hell yea Only thing, I’ve eaten here maybe 10x and There’s a wide variety of pies and style variation - and sometimes quality. I am always satisfied, and sometimes it’s fine and good, and sometimes it’s the best. Note Some of their pies (Eg cache de pepe however you spell it) do veer a little more indulgent/pgh style at times. It’s part of the variation life here. In general a ny style at the core. In general Davide is in the group of the best pgh places for a good ny style pie. Here, lupo, maybe badamos. I will always go back to Davide. And will always be happy to

Google
The pizza was fantastic, but the experience was unfortunately soured by the woman working the window around 6:50 PM on July 27th. She appeared to be in her 30s with brown hair and had a noticeably passive-aggressive attitude for no clear reason. Because of this, we ended up with a cold pizza. That’s not something we expected from a place known for great food. Disappointing when other customers showed more courtesy and warmth than your staff.

Unfortunately the pizza was burnt and tasted bad. I am very upset even though I paid a large tip but the pizza looked shocking

Yelp
This pizza is PHENOMENAL! Hands down, best I have ever had. We stopped by on St. Patrick's Day to grab a bite to eat and it was the best decision ever. My boyfriend went up to the counter to order while my sister and I grabbed one of the picnic tables. (If the weather is crappy, I'm not sure if I would eat there since it is all outside - but take the pizza home! It is too good to not get!) There also were bathrooms in the restaurant next door which was nice to have!

Yelp
Had this spot 4 years back and I remember loving the cheesesteak and fucking HATINGGG the pizza. Since then (especially since my Lupo video) it's been brought up a good bit. My buddies kept telling me I have to try again. They all said it won't blow me away but it's defo not as bad as I was saying it was It's RARE I ever go somewhere again if I didn't like it the first time. Like I said, I wanted a cheesesteak and I didn't want to drive that far one. Plus I could get pizza. The tirs time I had I only had their New York style and not their Old World. The pizza was thin and floppy. I'm a thick crust, no flop guy but I will say I was a fan of the sauce. It didn't rock my work but it didn't upset me Cheesesteak was just a decent cheesesteak. Bread was soft, wasn't that expensive, meat wasn't shit, and cheesy as fuck. No wow factor but no shit factor I would never say you must go here, I also wouldn't tell anyone don't go there. If this was catered for something I wouldn't be upset with it. I can agree with anyone's take on here because it can go either way. If you've had it let me know what you think, if you haven't you should try because I'm actually so curious what y'all think

Yelp
Dorothy? Are we in Philly? Hell no, we are in the strip district in Pittsburgh Pa. PD is no joke with food, food and more food. We heard that somewhere in the strip there was a Genuine Cheese whiz cheesesteak and they were so right. Ooey Gooey Goodness with a soft roll, delicious steak and that Cheese. Mama Mia., that is some good stuff; but wait one second...I digress: don't forget the Pizza and the rest. The cheese sticks, the meatballs the pesto and dipping sauces...WOW! Don't miss this place...people are great, Food is top notch and who can beat eating outside in the strip district. No not Philly...PITTSBURGH PA BABY... Stuffed!

Yelp
The pizza was fantastic, but the experience with the quaint pizza window was unfortunately soured by the woman working the window around 6:50 PM on July 27th. Yelp
Ok I knew this pizza was good but I didn't realize it was THIS good. I also was leaning towards the plain until I tried the pepperoni and banana peppers. It was incredible! I could have pizza every day and this could be in the routine for sure.

Yelp
Got takeout from pizzeria davide for rain night in and received quick service. We got the old world classic large Pizza, the Bianco (white) pizza + some mozzarella sticks and cannolis. It was light but still feeling and always delicious. They even threw in some cheese slices for the dogs! Will definitely be back again soon especially with their outdoor patio set up for Summer

Yelp
On a work trip out of Arlington and stopped for a pizza after seeing David Portnoy review. Service was excellent and the pizza was great. Also had the meatballs and I would definitely come back just for those. Overall great experience and will come back next time I am in Pittsburgh.

Yelp
I love Pizzeria Davide! I'm very picky about my pizza since I grew up on New Jersey/New York pizza, but Pizzeria Davide is my favorite spot in Pittsburgh! I've only ever ordered takeout but have not once been disappointed! The people working at the counter are always very kind and efficient, and it looks like such a fun spot to sit outside and eat. Will definitely be doing this soon!! Highly recommend the spinach artichoke pizza

Matt m.

Yelp
So the pizza is usually good, but they seem to be falling of lately. I waited a solid 5 minutes at the window before anyone came and took my order. Then after leaving and sotting down to eat i noticed my slices are badly burnt. On a side note sometimes when you order 1 slice of pizza they will charge for 2 and give you 2 slices. Strange but me and a coworker have both had it happen to us. Hopefully they get their stuff back together.
google avatar

Jess N.

Yelp
Some of the best pizza you'll get in Pittsburgh, PA. An XL, Extra cheese is always my go to - but I LOVE their spinach and artichoke pizza SO much too - it's hard to not get both! Service is always great and on time. Thanks for creating some of the best extra cheese a girl could ask for! *located behind dianoias*
google avatar

Mike M.

Yelp
Came as part of pizza passport and first time here. Server was super friendly. Of the cheese, pepperoni, and daily special, I selected the intriguing meatball pineapple hot honey sriracha. The slices were generously cut and toppings melded very nicely together. The hot honey leaned sweet which was nice with the meatball. Really enjoyed the creativity in this and can't wait to come back!

Yelp
Finally got to check this spot off of my places I've been meaning to check out and I am so happy I did. After getting hungry in the strip district, I wanted a great pie and I highly recommend Pizzeria Davide. Crust was light and fluffy and the weather was perfect for outdoors seating. Plus, I had so many friends ask where I got my pizza when I posted online about it! For 2 people ordered a small pepperoni pizza (NY style although I don't think this is necessarily a NY slice - still super delicious though!), garlic knots, and mozz sticks. Everything was well seasoned and so tasty. I wish there was a napkins/utensils set up outside for easy access. I felt bad asking the cashier for things! Also, I recommend ordering ahead since it does take about 20 mins for your order and we saw multiple families order ahead so they could just pick up their order and eat outside. I can't wait to come back when it's nicer and bring more friends!
google avatar

Jessica H.

Yelp
I have been looking for the best pizza in Pittsburgh and finally found it! We went there with the pizza passport and got to try a slice. The crunch when I bit it was perfect and the sauce and cheese had the right amount of flavor. We can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Julie Anna E.

Yelp
Great pizza! After hearing the constant praise about this joint, I finally had to get the scoop for myself. It was very good! I wouldn't say this is my favorite pizza in PGH- as others convinced me it would be. It's good pizza, simple as that. Definitely can't knock it. Worth trying for yourself!
google avatar

Evan F.

Yelp
Rock solid New York style pizza pies, or you can also get them by the slice! There is a walk-up window where you order and only outdoor seating is available...but of course you can always take-away as well. Staff appeared to be working their butts off in the back, my whole pie took about 20 minutes from order to delivery though the window. Crust was medium thin and had a great chew to it. Sauce was on the tangier / zestier side (which I love) and the cheese and toppings were on point. Looking forward to return trips here when we're jonesing for another pizza!
google avatar

Marcus E.

Yelp
We love pizza. We're pretty good at making it at here at home in a real pizza oven. We very rarely write suboptimal reviews. Today we were pretty deeply disappointed. We ordered delivery via DoorDash. The Dasher was waiting at the store for the order and got to us roughly 10 minutes after pickup. One pie had sauce that was completely cold. Can't blame this on DoorDash vis. timing, as above. The second had bottom of crust that was where more than 75% of surface area was burnt completely black: not well done - carbonized. This second pie should never have left the store. Call to store resulted in apology and offer to make another pie for use tomorrow, but the incredibly expensive ($30 XL-sized) carbonized pie should have been refunded entirely. The cheesesteak was fine.
google avatar

Dakota T.

Yelp
Came here for a quick slice and got exactly that! I got their special of the day which was margherita with olives and mushrooms- great combo. The pizza was super thin and perfectly crispy, just as I was hoping. The only thing was that I felt like the dough lacked flavor. I think I'd give them another shot and was great for a quick bite but not necessarily a stand out slice.
google avatar

Pete J.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place for quite a while. Today was a lazy, kid free day, so we hit some spots in the city and decided to grab a slice here. My wife got the pepperoni and I ordered the daily special which was onions, mushrooms and lebanon bologna. The folks working were very nice and we hit it at the right time as there were only 2 people in front of us. The pizza was decent. I think fresh would have been much better. Folks beside us ordered a whole pepperoni pie and it looked amazing. Whereas my wife's slice of pepperoni looked as though it had been sitting for a while. I gave it a 4 because I believe fresh it would be that.
google avatar

Mitchell M.

Yelp
The best pizza in the burgh. Perfect place to drop by for a MASSIVE slice. My dog loves getting a slice of provolone every time we stop by!
google avatar

Olivia B.

Yelp
Delicious pepperoni and cheese pizza by the slice and quick service at the walk-up window!
google avatar

Elle T.

Yelp
The pizza was delicious. I ordered on DoorDash and ordered a cacio e Pepe w pepperoni, margherita, and a ricotta + sausage pizza. All XL. We also got a couple orders of the meatballs. I'd say the pizza was really good and came really fast -- I took away a star cuz they forgot the pepperoni but I'd say overall, well priced and pretty good
google avatar

Lynn R.

Yelp
We wanted pizza and gave PD a try. We ordered a large cheese, and large sausage and a side of garlic knots. Total: $70.00 Highlight: The garlic knots were the BEST I have ever tried. The outside was crispy and golden and the inside soft. Seriously delish. Low: The sausage pizza - the bottom was burnt and therefore the taste was masked on the pizza and not the best. I don't care for my crust burnt. The cheese pizza was cooked well. I'm giving this 4 stars because the knots were divine. I recommend checking the pizza before accepting it especially for this price.

Yelp
Stopped here for a couple of slices while exploring the strip district. We usually stay in this area, and having a poster graphic of the various pizza places, Davide was one. Walk up window which, on our visit, was a cold and rainy day. However - they had a heat lamp above the area where you order. Which was so damn nice and accommodating. We ordered one old world cheese, one old world pepperoni, and one slice of the day pepperoni, ham, sausage. The slices are thin bois with a crispy cradle underneath. Soft between the edges, tasty sauce and cheese. The pepperonis are the small cupping kind. This was great pizza. Would rate it a 7.3/10.
google avatar

Spencer S.

Yelp
My wife and I took some friends on a foodie walking tour of the Strip recently and Pizzeria Davide was first on our list (we started walking East to West from about 26th Street). This was a great first stop as it has just opened, there was no line, and we were able to get piping hot slices of pepperoni. The slices are affordable, generous, and full of flavor. While the underside was a little crispy and black for my taste, the crust was airy and chewy as I was hoping. Would love to come back soon and explore more of the menu options!
google avatar

Meredith A.

Yelp
So, I discovered this place while waiting for a table at Di'Anoia's. We were super hungry and decided to get a slice of pizza as an app. A slice of pizza here is no joke-very much like a slice in NYC. The crust is that perfect chewiness. Plain, their special, or pepperoni are all really delicious. There is also a cute lil outside area to eat your pizza where you can see some of the old industrial businesses in the strip.
google avatar

Courtney E.

Yelp
My favorite pizza on the planet. Period. This is all you need to know. Barstool should review this place. I will be back forever and ever. I wish it was a restaurant that you could sit inside but we ate in the car. Didn't matter. so good.
google avatar

Alison R.

Yelp
Great pizza in the Strip. Perfect on a nice day--takeout and picnic table outdoor seating only.

Thomas B.

Yelp
Stopped Friday afternoon for a slice and a beer while cycling w a friend. I've had better frozen pizza, would not recommend.
google avatar

Geraldine U.

Yelp
Located in the Strip district, look for street parking for pick up. They have a picnic area in front of the pick up window if you wanna enjoy your pizza right away. Our favorite was the New York Style with Onion, Mushroom & Red Pepper. It was delicious and well balanced. We also got the Old World with Soppressata - which was also tasty, just a little spicier and saltier than we expected.
google avatar

Caitlin M.

Yelp
Ordered delivery from here thru Uber Eats for easy dinner on the fly. Have to say this is one of the best pizza spots in the burgh. My husband and I have been on the hunt for best spot and this is now my number one. Ordered a small pep and large salad to share. Portions were perfect and delicious!
google avatar

Chelsey D.

Yelp
I love this place. It is a perfect little take out window with some outdoor seating as well. It's great if you work close by and want to pick up a slice or something quick for lunch! I am a huge fan of the special slices; I always make sure to ask what they got when I get there. The pizza crust here is what does it for me. Perfectly thin but not too thin and the tastes is just a great product. My go-to order is a slice and the side salad. Their salad is always great and super fresh, the dressing is so good, I love to dip my pizza crust in it! You're welcome for the pro-tip! lol. Also, the Lebanese bologna pizza is UNREAL, must try! The quality of all the ingredients is really well selected. The service there is top tier! Nelly at the cash register is always a highlight in my day. Perfect personality to be interacting with your customers! There is also a blonde lady who works there that always remembers me and is so friendly and great too! I just never got her name. 2 stand out employees to be proud of! Located right outside the busy part of the strip district which is nice if you are trying to avoid the crowds! The cheesecake here is also an honorable mention!

Yelp
We hadn't been here in a while. We have several pizza places we love. We happened to be down in the strip with a friend enjoying some drinks and were getting hungry. I suggested Davide and it was a solution that seemed good to everyone. We decided on the Deluxe New Yorker, which seemed to have fresh mozzarella and basil added for $2 above the regular. The guys were hungry and said go for the x-large. I called and was told it would be ready in 25 minutes which worked out perfectly. We were able to park right out front to pick it up. It was ready just a few minutes after the estimated time given. This pizza was HUGE! Like could be hard to fit in the car huge. It consists of 8 giant slices. Thin crust, super cheesy, great flavor. Reasonably priced too. We all enjoyed it and will definitely return.
google avatar

Ashley S.

Yelp
I have heard many good things about Pizzeria Davide so I decided to try it out myself! I ordered the Old World with prosciutto and arugula, size large for $19 which is standard pricing in my opinion. I ordered it around 5:30 for a pick scheduled for 7:20-7:30 but, it wasn't ready till around 8:00. They were super busy so I can see how it wasn't ready on time. It was just a little annoying that I had to wait there for 40 minutes when I ordered ahead. The pizza itself was so good!! The crust or sauce, I'm not sure which, was a little sweet but in a good way. The crust was the perfect consistency and crispiness. It was soft and crunchy, amazing. The flavor of the pizza we got was great too; I always love a good prosciutto pizza!! I will definitely be back for some more pizza!
google avatar

Jon G.

Yelp
It's one of the few pizza places in the strip that I have not tried. Got an opportunity this week to grab a slice. Went to the order window in the back of DiAnoia's restaurant. They offer plain, pepperoni, and special of the day slice options. You can also order whole pizzas. I got a pepperoni slice and the daily sausage and ricotta option. Both were huge at reasonable prices. Equally delicious. The girl at the order window was friendly and efficient. It's worth a stop if you are in the strip looking for a slice of pizza.
google avatar

Donato C.

Yelp
Davide sets the standard. Pizza ALWAYS tastes fantastic. Placed an order today right when they opened, received great customer service, Art ensure a quick pickup due to the cold weather. Thanks

Cheryl L.

Yelp
Best pizza in Pittsburgh. If you like that New York style thin crust by the slice pizza you have to try it. I have been on search for pizza in Pittsburgh and this is the first that I would go back to. It's window service with four outdoor tables where they do by the slice or takeout only.
google avatar

Loriana L.

Yelp
We really enjoyed the pizza from here. Their old world pizza is very unique - thin crust and the cheese under the sauce. The ingredients are really fresh (the basil was amazing and so fragrant!) and our order was piping hot when we picked it up. Friendly staff is always a plus too :) The price is right and there are plenty of menu options. Nice outdoor seating area, too!

Ryan R.

Yelp
Ordered an XL Old World pizza with half sausage and ricotta and half plain. Whole pizza came with sausage and ricotta and was so soggy. Tasted okay but was bland and with barely any ricotta. My girlfriend cannot eat pork so she was left without any pizza. Please pay attention to what people order! Keep the box at least cracked open for delivery! Also ordered (and paid for) 2 sides of ranch which never came with my order. Really disappointed.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I are both lactose intolerant and we saw that they have a Marinara style pizza with no cheese which we were excited to try. They had a deal a while ago of 2 pizzas for $22 but when we called to order, they said that deal only works for NY Style or Old World style. We explained we can't do those since we can't have cheese and asked to do the marinara style instead (which also happens to be cheaper than the other two). Unfortunately they weren't willing to honor the request which we were pretty disappointed and surprised by, given that it's the cheaper option. We ended up not getting the two pizzas and ordered an XL of the Marinara Style with half arugula and prosciutto and half pepperoni and mushrooms. The pepperoni and mushroom was definitely better out of the two. Lots of pepperoni which was nice. On the other half, there was a ton of arugula it's all raw, and the prosciutto doesn't taste the freshest. It was okay but wouldn't order those toppings again. Also wish they split it a bit more evenly between the two flavors, there was definitely more prosciutto and arugula than the pepp and mushroom. Overall, decent pizza and appreciate that they have an option for people who are lactose intolerant, but wish they were better with customer service and were more willing to accommodate our request. We weren't trying to be difficult, yet they made it feel like we were.

Yelp
Food: We split the Soppressata & Mushroom Pizza and the Philly cheesesteak. I thought the Philly was incredible, my partner who is a bit harder to please with her cheesesteaks was less impressed but still enjoyed it. The pizza was also excellent, saucy and the dough was delicious. Service: It was just pick up that I did online, the woman working the window was pleasant and helpful. Ambiance: I think it's a cool little set up outside with picnic tables, it was like 88° so we didn't sit there but maybe next time. Overall: I wish we would have ordered the Davide Experience (weekdays only), we didn't see it on the online menu (it's there though), looked like a pretty great deal. That said, I loved the cheesesteak and thought the pizza was plenty tasty!
google avatar

Kathy Z.

Yelp
We stumbled across this place the last night of our visit and were glad we did! The pizza was great, and we were able to purchase by the slice (pepperoni or cheese only) so everyone got what they wanted. It's outside eating or take-away only. While there was quite a long line at some points, many people were just picking up pies and leaving. The prices were also very reasonable, four of us ate for about $21 which was less than we paid for ice cream a couple of hours earlier.

Matthew P.

Yelp
I'll start by saying I am from NYC. The pizza seems a little inconsistent. The sauce does need work, It's a little bland and the dough needs more salt. Maybe it's the Pittsburgh water. It's not NY. In general they need to leave the pies in the oven longer.
google avatar

Abigail O.

Yelp
The best pizza in the Burgh! We generally do takeout but sometimes in the summer will grab a pizza and sit outside at the picnic tables. We love the cheesesteak, sriracha wings, and garlic knots as starters. The cheesesteak is one of my all time favorites! As for pizza, we usually do the NY style but just depends on your personal favorite style. I'm a big fan of their spicy sausage and pepperoni or a nice cheese and basil. The slices are large so the prices are generally worth it. Be sure to checkout the specials because those can be helpful when ordering!
google avatar

J F.

Yelp
Great pizza in the burgh. Only reason I give it 4 stars is because their quality takes a hit depending on their business. Probably a better Philly cheesesteak than most places in Philly serve, too. Don't sleep on it.
google avatar

Marnie S.

Yelp
Exploring the strip with my in-laws and they were looking for a quick slice. Pizzeria Davide is one of our favorite slices in Pittsburgh/on the strip. I hadn't been in quite some time and I had forgotten just how good it is!! The slices came out very fast and piping hot. The Parmesan sprinkle and the Italian seasoning sprinkle added a really nice garnish that made the slice that much better. If you need a quick bite on the strip, this is the place!!
google avatar

Brad H.

Yelp
Without a doubt one of the top pizzas in the city. I had heard great things for some time and finally got to try it recently. Disappointed it took me so long to get here. I just went with a plain cheese slice, but it was so good! The crust was crispy, but not too crisp, perfectly cooked. The sauce had a great homemade taste to it. My favorite part was probably the small amount of cheese on it. This might not be everyone's thing, and I'm sure you could ask for extra cheese, but I hate when pizza places use so much cheese that it is all you taste and makes the pizza soggy/greasy. This was a perfect amount of melty cheese, while still allowing you to taste the great dough and sauce. On top of the great pizza, they make some of the best homemade ranch I've had. Great spot overall, can't wait to stop back.
google avatar

John M.

Yelp
Authentic and absolutely delish NY style pizza located in a relatively quiet side street off the commercial beaten path of the Strip District. If you're a tired tourist (like me!), this is a nice spot frequented by locals to avoid the maddening crowd. The casual outdoor seating (order/pick-up at a nondescript "To Go" window) and modest signage slightly lowered my expectations but I was immediately won over by the perfectly foldable crust, robust red sauce and generous cheese topping. So, if you're looking for some great NY style pizza here it is. NYC? Fuhgeddaboudit!
google avatar

Melissa P.

Yelp
I was really excited to try Pizzeria Davide. Usually I'm a cheap and greasy pizza kinda gal, but while slightly more elevated, the slices I've seen from Pizzeria Davide look excellent. When I bit into my first slice it definitely tasted good, but it wasn't quite what I expected. It wasn't pizza-y, but it was familiar... then it hit me. It tastes exactly like lasagna. Good lasagna, but not really what I want from pizza sauce or cheese. The crust was pretty good but a little charred for me. It's an interesting slice but not the top of my list ‍Maybe it will be the top of yours. Definitely quality ingredients, so I understand why so many people love it.

Yelp
Not a bad slice. Reminds me of NJ style Tomatoe Pie. Cheese on the the bottom and sauce on top. Nice crust and decent crisp
