The 8 Best Restaurants on Governors Island - New York - The Infatuation

"Pizzeria Fantastica makes the best food on the island, and it’s not particularly close. The Neapolitan pizza spot—formerly known as Pizza Yard—cooks their pies out of a brick oven in a small wooden structure, which results in a crust that skews more bubbly than puffy, popping with fresh bursts of hot, pizza-flavored air with every bite. The setup is great, too, with tons of picnic tables spread out under tall trees, as well as a giant open field right nearby. Get one pizza per hungry adult, and top it simply, like with crispy capocollo or roasted mushrooms." - will hartman, kenny yang

Pizzeria Fantastica makes the best food on Governors Island, hands down - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"Governors Island is a five-minute ferry ride from Manhattan, and is better known for bike paths and a very fancy spa than it is for great food, but Pizzeria Fantastica is the exception. The Neapolitan pizza spot—formerly known as Pizza Yard—cooks their pies out of a brick oven in a small wooden structure, and the result is a crust that skews more bubbly than puffy, popping with fresh bursts of hot, pizza-flavored air with every bite. The setup is great, too, with tons of picnic tables spread out under tall trees, as well as a giant open field right nearby. Get a margherita pizza, or one topped with thinly sliced capocollo or mushrooms, find a shady picnic table under a tree, and enjoy the best food on the island. photo credit: Will Hartman" - Will Hartman

After a day of biking, walking and relaxing on Governor's Island we definitely look forward to enjoying this pizza ! Sorry reading the most recent negative reviews but thankfully we've yet to experience anything of that nature. The people here have always been respectful and the pizza is always amazingly delicious!

Pizzeria Fantastica takes pizza to a whole new and exciting level of quality and flavor. From the classic Regina Margherita to fully customizable options with fresh veggies or meats, everything tastes outstanding. The dough and the wood-fired oven bring out that unmistakable, authentic flavor you’d expect from a truly great pizza. It reminds me of the genuine, traditional taste of beautiful Italy with a touch of American style that makes it even better. Absolutely recommended! For me, it easily ranks among the best pizzerias in New York City. Amazing owner and team, thank you! 🍕🇮🇹🇺🇸

Wow! I visited Governor’s Island and what a great place to spend an afternoon on a sunny day. Wide open spaces, historical monuments, and … pizza! Yes, pizza! Pizzeria Fantastica lives up to its name. The pizza is fantastic. I had my favorite: broccoli rabe and sausage on a white pie. Oh. My. God. Did I say “fantastic”?! Pizza and wine is one of my favorite meals and Pizzeria Fantastica has become my new happy place. I’ll be on the ferry again soon. See ya there.

This is hands down our favorite Neapolitan pizza in New York. The dough is fluffy, obviously prepared at least two days ahead. The sauce is just right, perfect. As is the mozzarella. Then the location. What a place. Governors is amazing. Could not love having pizza here more.

A perfect NY day is cycling around Governors Island, and eating this incredible pizza. I’ve lived in New York all my life and this is definitely one of my favorite pizzas! The kids love the meat lovers, but I’m sure all of them are great! We went two days in a row and would definitely go back! Joe is so friendly.

The boss is very rude. I am not sure if he is the owner or manager. He told us in a loud voice that skates is not allowed but he allowed a white girl on a bike. He could have told us in a nice way but he looks irritated. We did not say anything and my son just got out of the dining area. I was about to ignore it but my husband who was sitting far away on our duo bike heard him and asked me why the boss was shouting at us. He was very nice to white people but rude to us (we are asian but look like Mexican). The Mexican workers who make the pizza are nice. The pizza is nothing special.

Absolutely no training in customer service or hospitality from the presumed boss (mid aged Italian man). This man used a mega phone to shout at a customer to return the single crushed red pepper shaker they had so that someone else could use it… not to mention this was a POC. Disgusting to watch, do better and invest in more shakers for seasonings. Remember that customers do not work for you! How dare you yell at someone to bring something to you . Pizza was mid at best.

Had such a great meal at Pizzeria Fantástica. Classic Brick Oven New York heaven and in such a peaceful setting. Skip the lines and cluster at the food court on Governors Island and enjoy plenty of seating, good drinks, and a great bite.
