Portland’s Legit Late-Night Happy Hours | Eater Portland

"This cute and cozy family-friendly pizzeria in Roseway is dominated by its wood-fired pizza ovens, which crank out margherita pizzas for just $6 after 8 p.m. each night. They’re best paired with a glass of wine or pint of beer, both of which are $4 during this relaxed late-night happy hour. The new, larger location on SE Foster Road isn’t bucking tradition, running the exact same program." - Alex Frane

In Altanta, there is an extremely famous pizzeria that flies all ingredients over from Italy. Its our absolute favorite but Pizzeria Otto is fighting toe to toe with that place! Its an amazing pizzeria and a really cool atmosphere! The balance of flavors with fresh tasty ingredients was incredible to behold! We truly could not have imagined a better pizza place. The dough was crispy, airy, and chewy. Everything I hope for in a good crust. The sauce was tangy and balanced. The cheese and fresh basil was wonderful! Completely loved this place! We also got a chopped salad which was very unique. 100 percent would recommend this place to anyone visiting Portland!

Google
The $9 happy hour margharita pizza is appealing , but considering it’s about half as much as their other pizzas, it did feel that toppings and sauce were definitely lacking . If I ordered again I would have to include at least two extra toppings, and request extra sauce .

Google
Omg you need to come here!! Italian style pizza with incredible flavor. You’ll feel like you’re in Italy as you’re eating it. If you like Margherita pizza they have an incredible lunch special from 11am-5pm and you can get a Margherita pizza for $9!!! We’ve been here multiple times but I’ve never reviewed it until now and can’t believe I hadn’t done a review yet. It’s so good. It’s a cozy space and the staff are wonderful.

Google
You guys hit a home run here. Coming from a pizza 🍕 state Of Chicago IL. , and the sauce is so tasty. I'm normally not a fan of thin pizza but this is a must try if you haven't. .amazing place and people.

Google
This pizza was really good and the price makes it even more exciting to try if you love some Za. Some pies can get pricey but for the size I was pleased. The salads are really big and tasty as well. There is not a lot of seating for a big group but you can definitely sit outside if the weather is nice or push some tables together.

Loved loved loved everything about this pizza place more than a pizza place. It was a meal that I truly enjoyed. The atmosphere was vivacious, the choice of wines with the pairings were perfect and I just love the style of the pizza. Awesome.‼️🍕🍕

Google
Staying in town for work and Ottos came recommended by locals, checked it out, did not disappoint! Pizza was phenomenal and the atmosphere is welcoming and chill. Definitely recommend!

Google
I'm so happy Pizzeria Otto is located in my neighborhood. The pies are beyond delicious! The crest is chewy on the edge and thin in the middle. A beautiful simple red sauce that blends with any toppings. Great ratio of cheese to sauce to toppings and crust. Their salads are just as good as the pizza. Fresh and interesting ingredients.

Yelp
Excellent pizza in every way. I had the Sausage and Mushroom, my wife had the Wild Mushroom pizza. I've never been to Europe, but my wife is well traveled there. She also really enjoyed this pizza and said it reminded her of pizza she had in both France and Italy. I also enjoyed the atmosphere. Large windows facing Sandy Blvd let in a lot of light even on cloudy days. At the same time it was very cozy. The warmth of their pizza oven probably helps with that. Otto's was lively in a good way. Busy in a good way. Staff were cool too. I loved the Italian movie posters framed on the walls. Anyway, I really recommend Pizzeria Otto even if you're apprehensive about trying a new pizza place. This was my first time there and they have my business from now on. Thanks!

Yelp
This is our new favorite Napolitano pizza place. Wood fired and not burned, the right amount of crunch and chew, and incredible toppings. They have fresh and gorgeous salads, an incredible collection of wine and beverages to choose from, and options for kiddos. I really enjoy that the full length of the windows in this location are filled with efficient seating. There are plenty of long tables and long booths (!!) for seating a party or family. Plus there are coat/bag hooks at the end cap for each booth - thank you for this feature in a place with months of rain and chill. We are looking forward to a return for date night sans child.

Yelp
Consistently good pizza with a great Margherita pizza special. You order at the counter and have to bus your table. We have eaten here a number of times over the years and it's a good place to stop after picking hungry or hangry people up from the airport.

Yelp
Love this location, super chill at lunch! Nice lunch special for a margarita pizza. Caesar salad is delish! The only room for improvement is the hot oil wasn't not remotely spicy to either my friend or I. That said, pizza is fabulous, service is quick and kind!
google avatar

Victoria L.

Yelp
Incredible stone fire pizza! We got pepperoni pizza, a mediterraneo with no feta and small Caesar salad. Absolutely amazing flavor on the salad and mediterraneo pizza. Staff were super chill and helpful. Inside has tons of seating and a bar top. They also had specials and beer on tap! Great place for pizza night.

Yelp
we love pizzeria otto! I never leave yelp reviews but your staff deserves kudos for managing a challenging situation tonight where a customer came in using inflammatory hate speech and generally causing a scene. they responded quickly and attempted to de-escalate but made it extremely clear that he would not be served and his speech would not be tolerated. thank you staff! and of course the pizza was amazing.

Yelp
These people are artists. Go for happy hour even and just get their garlic bread and a salad. Even these seemingly small appetizers will convince. They are, in a word, transcendent.
google avatar

Sanjit K.

Yelp
Awesome casual pizza joint on NE Sandy. I recognized the impressive ceramic pizza oven imported from Naples. Beautiful wood fired pizzas here, we had the pepperoni (tons of meat on the pie). Great char on the crust, and nice chewy texture on the inside. Counter service, some outside tables. All in all, very solid, I would return for lunch or casual dinner. They have good wine choices (bottles, too) and beer selection too!
google avatar

Yelp
One of my favorite pizza places in the city! The menu is full of simple and flavorful combinations. Though, I can't steer away from the margherita pizza, it's simple and delicious every time. Their caesar salad has a an array of different lettuces and a wonderfully flavorful dressing. The restaurant itself is small, and offers indoor and outdoor seating. Staff is prompt and friendly. Pro Tip: check out their happy hour specials!

Yelp
The staff at Pizzeria Otto set a super high bar for our adventure in Portland. Everyone was so kind and helpful. We asked for recommendations and we ended up ordering the beet and pear salad and tribunali pizza. The salad considered it roasted beets, pears, arugula and greens, gorgonzola, candied hazelnuts, and a shallot vinaigrette. It was perfection. I live for a nice salad especially with pears and gorgonzola, but the beets and hazelnuts made this out of this world! The pizza was full of Italian sausage, broccoli raab, and water buffalo mozzarella (which is outstanding if you have never tried it). The pizza was amazing. It was just what we needed. So a sidenote. The restaurant is small. There were a few larger tables to accommodate four people and several tables for two. My boyfriend overheard a family that was waiting for a table to open up and he offered our table and we moved to a smaller table. They were so thankful as was the restaurant staff. They used us a round of drinks, but we were so tired from the travel that we declined. So they sent us with a free beers to go. They didn't have to do this and we were not expecting anything at all. This just showed the kind of service they provided. Again, they set the bar really high! We will absolutely come back when we are back in Portland.

Rebecca D.

Yelp
Pizza is really good. Service is rude to the point of being outright hostile. It was a full 5 minutes of waiting at the counter before any acknowledgment. The tone of the person finally taking our order ranged from indifference to annoyance at our request for tomatoes on a pizza. The person then told us we couldn't sit at the larger table because that was for takeout, which then left a smaller table as the only remaining table - fine. But then the person proceeded to stand inches behind me noisily putting pizza boxes together. And of course you're supposed to leave a 25% tip but get your own plates and utensils. Pizza is really good.

Yelp
5 stars over, and over, and over. I've been eating here since they first opened. A TRUE Neapolitan pizza, great salads and al forno, and super-busy (during dinner hours) but really kind staff. Clean, attractive interior and large cut above most "pizza places". My niece is an internationally published food scientist, and I took her here when she visited, since she'd originally lived in Bologna. Italy as a Fulbright Scholar, and ended up moving back there for 8 years. Loved it, and said it was the BEST gluten free crust she'd ever tasted.

Yelp
Nothing beats their $9 margherita pizza during Happy Hour (11 AM - 5 PM every day). All their other pies I've tried have been delicious, however, so you can't go wrong with any of the options if you're looking for an authentic and fresh Neapolitan pizza.

Susan J.

Yelp
Excellent pizza. Delicious hand tossed crust, sauce and mozzarella. Reminiscent of Ken's Artisan Pizza. Great lunch special, too.
google avatar

Marissa L.

Yelp
I was a bit dismayed about the pizza here. I guess for the price, it was an alright size. Pretty simple pizzas with a thin crust. They were unable to adjust a pizza for a vegetarian, so ended up getting 2 pizzas. I tried both and I wouldn't come again. Service on phone was good.

Yelp
Otto pizza is known for their Neapolitan style pizza and it's my new favorite- I wish I could just order the crust cause it's so good! For pizza size, we order our own cause they are (imo) just too small to split- we have leftovers and get another meal out of it. I mainly get the Margherita and the globs of mozzarella is what I crave- also the fresh basil is great too. B gets the pepperoni and super good meat! We order from the Sandy location; we've only done take-out, but there is about 12 tables that can probably fit a good 30+ people! They serve beer and wine, soda and sparkling drinks. Their salads look yummy, and I really want to try the black garlic bread- been drooling over them. Location seems small cause it's directly on the corner, but the dining room is the biggest. You can watch the workers make the pizzas and it's fun to see. Located off of 67th and Sandy, they also have another location off of 71st and Foster. You can order online and get to go. Save a little room for their dessert: 'Nutella canotto'- sweet baby Jesus this is different and good- love the burnt chocolate. Follow them on social media- they have weekly pizza specials that look tempting!

Andrew K.

Yelp
Pizza is good, super kind staff, each time I've ordered ahead it feels like they wait til I arrive to start cooking the pizza and it's base 10 minutes to wait after the time it was supposed to be ready according to online or their staff answering the phone.

Paul N.

Yelp
The beet and pear salad was great. Margherita pizza with Buffalo mozzarella was also delicious with a chewy crust. Never had pizza with chili oil before but I wish every place had it. Great to find a place like this near the airport.
google avatar

Yelp
It's hard to find decent gluten free pizza, yet alone trust it from a wood fired box. This place did it though, great dough, amazing toppings(as in quality) and great service. Overall I've been here twice in 2 weeks, I like where it is and how they conduct business. I recommend the pepperoni or the arugula pizza!

Tim T.

Yelp
Love their gluten free pizza! The salads are great and the wine selection is unique and not the usual grocery store variety's. Everything is very fresh
google avatar

Cristina C.

Yelp
I came here as it was close to my airbnb. The cashier mentioned the garlic bread was amazing so I ordered it with a pizza diablo. The garlic bread was ok but I could have done without. The diablo was delicious and just the right amount of spicy. The Calabrian spicy oil was delicious.
google avatar

J S.

Yelp
Not that good. Thought I'd try a new place and was not what I expected. Middle of the pizza was soggy and limp. About 1.5-2" of crust with no sauce or toppings.

Jake B.

Yelp
We went to the Foster location tonight. We liked the Caesar salad, it was not overly dressed, lettuce was fresh. The wine was well priced and a good Nebbiolo. The pizza is Neapolitan style, its sauce tasted of fresh tomato and all ingredients were fresh and well balanced. We enjoyed this pizza joint very much and will certainly return.

Jacqueline Q.

Yelp
amazing service cute environment and super chill! had a great lunch but so yummy pizza tasted authentic and freshly made as seen with the oven when you walk in!! loved all of it 10/10

Yelp
You Otto come here! If you do, you Otto order the Margherita pizza! And if so, you Otto try the hot chili oil as well! Oh man, the puns are endless! Otto's came highly recommended, and now I know why. Fantastic, thin crust pizza (we're talkin' razor thin, folks!) that won't leave you feeling heavy and bloated afterward. You don't have to worry about carb overload, because this place let's the toppings and sauces do all the heavy lifting, instead of loading you up (or down) with nothing but crust! Our Margherita pizza was just the perfect amount for the two of us, although be warned, as thin as it is, you're better off with a knife and fork, or the tried-and-true fold-and-eat method, or it's going to be a messy affair - particularly if you apply any amount of the wonderful spicy chili oil! It's okay, though: any oil that ends up dribbling down onto your place is just biding its time until you mop it up with the outer crust. Heavenly! Or, since it's spicy, maybe...diabolical?! Just about my only nitpick is being unable to do half-pizza orders, but only because there were several other pies I wanted to try, such as the Pepperoni + Peperoni (hot peppers), but that just means we'll have to return again in the near future. Oh no! Normally, my wife is not the biggest pizza aficionado, so that conversation would usually be an uphill struggle, but she was so utterly enamored with the pizza we ordered here, that I don't think it is going to take much convincing. Now, getting her to order a *different* pizza on the menu...*that* might be a challenge! Is this the best pizza place in Portland? If you're a fan of thin crust pizza, they're a serious contender; and if my wife says so, you Otto believe it!

Jason O.

Yelp
I was taking my mom to try this place as I have heard great things & they were all correct! When we walked up to order there was a very nice your lady and she asked " what can I get you " we ordered out pizzas and my mom got a cider , I asked for a light beer, she went to get the drinks and gave them to us , as I took the first drink of the beer she said " let me know what you think - if you don't like it I'll get you the other option we have ". From there I had a smile on my face & the beer was good, we sat down and about 20 minutes later the pizzas & garlic bread came out, I took a bite of the garlic bread after dipping it into the tomato sauce and it was delicious, the way the garlic puree, and black garlic pesto and other flavors went together was delicious! I got the pepperoni pizza which was equally delicious, the crust had a little crunch and soft inside and was very good! They gave us some spicy oil which had good flavor also. Again the young lady at the front was great & very welcoming . Definitely give this place a try

Yelp
Was looking for an easy meal on the way home from the airport. Saw Otto's on Sandy and it looked interesting. I was absolutely blown away with the Pizza Margherita, particularly the red sauce. Best pizza I've had in years. Served on a plate, one size, European style. The shop is small with a tiled wood fired oven as a central feature. The staff were very friendly and it took a reasonable amount of time to get our order. Wish this place was located closer to where I live, but when I'm in the Roseway area I'll try to get back.

Yelp
Happy hour $9 Margherita pizza! So good! Go here, there's pizza is amazing! I was sick one day and called to ask if they would deliver it to my car because I didn't want to come in, and they did.

Yelp
Excellent food! Charming space! Excellent customer service! Wonderful Neapolitan style pizza and a great seasonal salad! : )

Yelp
The Foster road store is right in our neighborhood. We often walk up there to eat dinner. We spend less money than any of the other Foster road pizza joints. We typically get a pizza and a salad. Their pizzas are hand thrown and have unique, fresh and delicious ingredients. With one of their pizzas, we've probably tried six different ones. Whatever special they have is definitely worth trying out. Furthermore, they do a world-class job on putting together a salad. Tonight. Salad was beat and pear, so many other ingredients, it just tasted perfect. I can't believe I haven't reviewed this store before, we are eating there about once a month and loving it every single time. Two of us eat a fantastic dinner for under 40 bucks including tip.

Yelp
I've had the pizza here about 6 times at this point and I'd say it's a great experience! The chewy crust and charred edges with just the right amount of sauce and light toppings give it a pleasurable mouth feel. I enjoy this pizza dipped in an olive oil and balsamic mixture or a black truffle oil. So delicious! I've ordered recently online and got 3 pizzas delivered. They were great, but recommend 450 degree on the oven and to reheat them for about 5 minutes or less. But check frequently every couple minutes til desired heat levels (melted cheese, browned crust). Yep, a real Neapolitan pizza with delicious topping combinations. I enjoyed the sausage and mushroom pizza very much, and the margherita is great!
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
We love Pizzeria Otto. It seems most neighborhoods in Portland have their own wood fire pizzeria and this is ours. They always have fun and delicious specials each week. It can be quite noisy during peak dinner time. You order your pizza at the counter and take a seat or take it to go. Also bus your own table. I'm unsure if they have vegan options. Don't skip on the chili oil!
google avatar

Wit-n-Wisdom B.

Yelp
Humble service and appreciate the Margherita Pizza special before and after prime time.
google avatar

Vinnie B.

Yelp
What a great experience at this local pizza restaurant, with all the pizza spots in Portland these days, and it seems like everyday one pops up, this one is on top of the list of exceptional pizzas. For starters, the crust has the perfect crunch, char, thickness to it. To me though, it's the red sauce that is fire, seasoned but not over-salted like most pizza places do in Portland, like pizza jerk tends to do consistently. The prices are a tad lower than most pies within a 5 mile radius and better IMO. The caesar salads are a nice side to anything as well. All & All - Yes, return customer for sure, the Margarita is really, really good and not over salted !

J M.

Yelp
Best overpriced burnt pizza in town. Unfortunately they are almost completely incapable of hitting a target time for pickup. The pizza is good, but constantly having to wait 15-30+ minutes after scheduled pickup is frustrating. I reccomend either eating in or ordering for pickup and arriving 45 minutes after scheduled pickup time. Pizza warms up nicely at home in a pan at 400 F.
google avatar

Madison W.

Yelp
this was some of the best pizza I have ever had. incredible chewy crust, great sauce, rich fresh cheese. was so so good. I'm so sad we are from out of town because this would be a weekly stop. Definitely recommend!! The service and ambience was great as well

Yelp
I'm basically a dunce when it comes to pizza that purports to be authentically Neopolitan, as Pizzeria Otto's does. Although I was lucky enough to spend three summers in Italy as a kid--Dad taught in a studies-abroad program--we were in Tuscany and barely made it to Naples. Besides, I was young and dumb. (Have only been back to Italy once as an adult, and Naples was only a rather problematic transit stop during that trip.) And otherwise, I've lived in Georgia, Louisiana, and Ohio, states that sure aren't very notable when it comes to pizza. So I don't know jacksquat about what it takes for your pizza to get a stamp of approval from the Associazione Verace Pizza Napoletana or whether it even matters one bit (Otto isn't a a member). I know they're fired at super-high heat for a super-short time and generally have softer crust, even a little wet in the middle, and use the finest and freshest of products. That's about it. But on the day the two of us visited Otto, their Margherita was selling for $8 a pop, and it didn't take more than a second or two to make what was effectively a BOGO call, even though one pizza would have been enough to feed the two of us at lunchtime. (We'd also ordered a beet (and arugula?) salad that was excellent and larger than expected.) Call me a moron or an ignoramus or a dope, or some combination thereof, or something even more derogatory, but I'm not the biggest fan of soft pizza crust (I like just a little more crispiness). But Otto's pizza crust is beautifully freckled with char and has good flavor, the cheese and toppings were fresh and delicious, and the sauce was well apportioned and flavorful with some nuance. Delicious. Rather coincidentally, we tried a place called "Otto Pizza"--based in the other Portland, in Maine--earlier this year in Brookline, Mass. The West Coast Otto was certainly better. Yeah, we walked out with the entire second pizza in a box. The last two mornings we were in town, busted out the frying pan at the AirBnB and had terrific breakfast. (As far as I know, griddling that leftover pizza on the stovetop (cover it for the last couple of minutes) is the *only* way to go--don't let anybody tell you otherwise.)

Andrew C.

Yelp
Little expensive for pizza but my son liked it and we had a good time. I learned to cook my own pizza so I don't know if I'd go back.

Matt B.

Yelp
Great GF crust! Was in town on business and was looking for some GF pizza. This place did not disappoint.

Marcia B.

Yelp
I love the pizza. But stay away from the overpriced and often way oversalted vegetable sides. $15 for about 7 spears of overcooked asparagus? Really?
google avatar

Gloria B.

Yelp
I've gotten pizza delivered from here and even delivery the pizza was amazing!! The crust is perfectly cooked and has that chewy texture! The flavor of the sauce is amazing. And I love their gourmet topping combinations. I highly recommend!

Don R.

Yelp
Good happy hour. Curated beers. Fantastic salads and Neapolitan style wood fired pizza. Very busy at peak times, but it's all good because your pizza bakes for just three minutes in the super hot oven. Our favorite Neapolitan style pizza in Portland Metro. Good vibes and good people!
google avatar

Wendy K.

Yelp
Size of pizza is smaller than usual and undercooked. Also used canned, not fresh mushrooms.
google avatar

G K.

Yelp
I'm so happy to report they have come out of COVID blahzeh perfectly. Their pizza crust is perfectly chewy and the sauce deliciously fresh tasting. The only feedback is to put a bit more cheese on the margherita pizza. Other than that, all previous fans should return
google avatar

Trent E.

Yelp
Hole-in-the-wall pizzeria; amazing food and friendly staff. Happy hour margherita pizza for $8 from *11AM-5PM*! That's not just a happy hour, that's a freakin' matinee! These are proper Neapolitan pizzas: soft, fresh, and overflowing with flavor; proper technique is essential. Fold each slice in half, crust to crust, and flip an inch of the tip up and back on itself. Dig in like an Italian taco! This is a must for this type of pizza. The flavors simply don't pop the same without it. Spice things up on a few slices with a drizzle of their House-infused chili oil. It adds a very subtle spice with a smoky air and is a perfect compliment.
google avatar

Phil N.

Yelp
I assume I caught this place on a bad day. The staff and service were good and COVID precautions were solid. Took advantage of the $6 margarita special which is a fantastic deal for wood fired pizza. Portion size and value was exceptional. It looked really fantastic as well. Good amount of fresh toppings...decent char on the top and bottom of the pie without any of that nasty burnt taste. The pizza was a bit soggy however and the bread tasted gummy when you bit in. Haven't really experienced a gummy pizza before...so I'm not sure why it turned out that way when it appeared to be cooked to a perfect color. Will return eventually.

Dana M.

Yelp
First impression, Pizza dough raw, long wait time- 30 min for a 9 inch. $9. Their is no pizza crust it's literally undercooked slightest tinniest dough with little to no (too sour) tomato sauce. Do not recommend. It's literally not good, would not go back.
google avatar

Andrew H.

Yelp
The char, the char, the char. I'll admit to not ever having a soft crust Naples style pizza. Now I have, and I wonder to myself why I have passed by here dozens of times and never stopped in? And I don't even live that far! Pizzaria Otto offers a lunch special of a $6 Margharita pie and it is well worth it. I scoffed down a whole pizza in under 15 minutes. The menu and all the other pizza and salad options all look amazing. House made sausage? Yes. As for the margharita? Well, I did mention the char. If that is not your thing, then this may not be the place for you. But if it is, and you feel that a slight burnt taste to your pizza adds to the experience, then you're in the right place. Now the soft crust is very chewy and requires two hands because it's not like a typical Neapolitan pizza that is usually quite stiff. It's different, but really good. The sauce was actually perfect. Tomato with just a hint of sweetness was very well balanced. The mozzarella and Parmesan were in dollops all over the pie, but did not take over the pie. The pizziolos here know a thing or two about pizza and what appeared to be an Italian pizza oven was a furnace and constantly accepting new pies. What I do know, is that I'll be back quite soon, even if it is a string of more margharita pizzas. Enjoy and support local especially during the current times.

Yelp
Gary & Sandra Vancouver Island, BC Canada When my Wife and I were on a holiday to Pahrump Nevada, my Wife and I enjoyed a pizza from Pizzeria Otto. Their Ham & Pineapple Pizza which was cooked in a wood fired oven was awesome. Excellent service goes great with great pizzas When staying in Portland Oregon, I would defiantly recommend Pizzeria Otto
