Why are you reading this review? You know you are in the right place for authentic Italian food. First time here try one of the fresh made Pizzas. The interior is cozy with the ovens on display. It has the feel of a small European city cafe or bistro. Enjoy sharing a meal and cheer with your group.

Such an awesome place in Kensington, we happened upon this pizzeria while shopping and were so impressed by the food and service. They had the window/doors open so it was partially open air but still inside. Amazing flavor, fresh ingredients, and pleasant atmosphere. Really clean, and probably my favorite pizza in Toronto! We will be back for sure.

We were in Toronto for the day, and stopped here for dinner, based on wanting to have authentic wood-fired pizza. This restaurant exceeded our expectations. The bruschetta appetizer is served on a baked pizza crust instead of bread, and it was as delicious as it sounds. We also had an order of arancini, which were respectable. The highlight of the meal, however, were the pizzas, which were absolutely fantastic! We kept it simple, ordering the Margherita and cappriciossa pizzas. They were cooked properly, and were allowed to rest (and cool) slightly after coming out of the oven, so that the fresh basil was nice and vibrant on our pizzas, and not wilted like happens often at other pizza restaurants. This also meant that we could dig in right away, without worrying about burning our mouths on a super-hot pizza. The sauce on the pizzas was a simple, elegant tomato sauce, that tasted like tomato. It was simply seasoned, without a bunch of herbs or spices to confuse your palate. What we also appreciated was the level of salt in the pizza, which was very well-balanced, and dialled-in to perfection, so that the flavours from the pizza are front and center, without being masked behind a wall of salt. This was the highlight of our evening and we look forward to returning. Please note that parking in the area can be a challenge, but for people who know Toronto, you understand that it is like that everywhere in the downtown area.

Via Mercanti in the heart of Kensington Market is a true gem for authentic Italian pizza lovers. Every time we visit, we’re blown away by the quality and flavour — it’s as close to Italy as you’ll get without hopping on a plane. The crust is perfectly blistered, the ingredients are fresh, and the flavour combinations are spot on. We get their pizza all the time and are never disappointed. Highly recommend the Ciambella (that crust!), the Quattro Formaggi (cheesy heaven), and the Bufalina (simple, fresh, and packed with flavour). Always a satisfying experience — a must-visit if you're in the area!

Best pizzas we’ve tried in Toronto! The ingredients are fresh and flavourful. The tiramisu and the Nutella pizza are delicious too. Fast service, highly recommended!

Google
This family-style restaurant offers a warm and welcoming atmosphere, with a staff that is incredibly friendly, attentive, and efficient. The service is quick, making it a great spot whether you’re dining in with family, friends, or even grabbing a meal on the go. The pizzas here are absolutely delicious, made with high-quality ingredients and baked to perfection. One standout is the Via Mercanti pizza—an incredible creation featuring a classic Margherita pizza layered on top of another pizza. It’s a unique and flavorful experience that is both satisfying and filling. If you’re a pizza lover, this is definitely a must-try! Overall, a fantastic place for great food, great service, and a great dining experience.”

While the flavour of the dough tasted authentic, the texture was quite tough. The crust was thick and chewy compared to other Italian pizzas I've had. The toppings were quite bland across multiple pizzas my party had. I heard this was some of the best Italian pizza spots, but I found terroni spaccio much better.

Google
Such amazing pizza!!! My partner had ordered the gnocchi. Our server made a mistake and gave him pizza (it was amazing regardless), to apologize for the simple mistake the server brought us the gnocchi as well to let us decide which was better! We decided the pizza was the best. Overall great experience and staff

Yelp
The people watching was nice on their patio and the pizza was fantastic. It was very hot inside, so I would not recommend sitting inside during the summer.

Yelp
Good place for a casual dinner with friends. Location is in Kensington. Both the service and interior are friendly and inviting. We had the double decker pizza, which was fun but next time I would like to try one of their regular pizzas. Someone else had the one topped with burrata which looked great. The four cheese gnocchi is very rich and the blue cheese flavour is very dominating, which I enjoyed but some people may not. All in all had a great time and would definitely come back for a relaxed and well priced meal.

Yelp
Located in Kensington Market is this wonderful Italian restaurant serving authentic Italian fare. The restaurant is simple, they have a beautiful outdoor patio as well. We came here for a going away lunch for a co-worker. The restaurant wasn't busy at 12pm, but started to full up quickly with a hungry lunch crowd. Service was great, our server was attentive and friendly. We order a few appetizers to start: Caprese Salad, calamari and the Antipasto Italiano. There was an abundance of food! I really enjoyed the Antipasto and the Calamari. The Caprese salad was ok, the tomatoes weren't that great and felt like they were not ripe enough. For my main I ordered the Ravioli, the rest of the group mostly ordered the pizza. Everything came out quickly except for a few people who waited a bit longer for their meal. Everything was hot and tasty. Finished off my meal with a cappuccino, I needed the pick me up because I was in a food coma! Overall, a wonderful dining experience! I will be back to try the pizza and enjoy the patio!

Yelp
This review is for Mateo at the Avenue road location. You look 14 years old, act like you're 8 years old, and you can't take a proper order on the phone. And then you blame your customers for your mistake? Whoever hired Mateo to be in customer service obviously had a lobotomy or serious brain damage. I'd humbly suggest to keep Mateo in the back making dough and cleaning the bathrooms. Kapish? Btw Mateo pulled the pizza out of the glorified Il Fornello oven too early on purpose. It was a soggy mess.

Yelp
Having pizza in Naples Italy ruined all other pizza for me...until I found Via Mercanti. The pizza here is the only pizza in the city that rivals that of the original Neapolitan pizza. This is the only pizza I will eat in the city. Done to perfection in every way--the dough, the sauce, the toppings all in perfect ratios. If you are serious about your pizza this is where you want to be eating. My personal favourite are the Margherita pizza and the Nutella pizza for dessert. True Italian classics done to perfection. The service is fabulous. They go above and beyond for all their guests

Yelp
Delicious and easy pizza. The crust was bubbly, the mozzarella cheese tasted fresh, and the sauce was clean and light. The pizza had everything I was looking for. They have a $10 margherita pizza and an ittybitty salad lunch combo. I prefer the lunch special at Pizzeria Libretto. It's $5 more but comes with a full salad (more choices too) and gelato.

Yelp
The pizza was the closest to my experience in Naples. I have to say my kids pepperoni pizza was cooked perfectly and the fries were a fun touch for them. I forgot what I got but my husband and I shared the double layer margarita and it was chefs kiss delicious. The service was great and loved the Italian waiter saying everything correctly. Only issue which was not the restaurant's fault is the amount of homeless folks with clear mental issues. One stopped just to touch my husband on the shoulder as he was feeding my 2 year old. It didn't help that another homeless person tried to attack my husband pushing my 2 year old on a stroller in that same day this morning. Be aware of your surroundings but if you make it here, perhaps enjoy food inside instead of outside like we did.

Yelp
Authentic location for Napoli pizza! My friends spoke Italian to the owner and some of the waitstaff. My friend and I split two pizzas to try more, we had the PATATE E SALSICCIA (Fior di latte, potatoes, sausage) and CACCIATORA (Fior di latte, mushrooms, chicken, cherry tomatoes) and the tiramisu. All were fantastic! If you have a larger group, I'd highly recommend reservations.

Yelp
We came here at the suggestion of an Italian and weren't super impressed. The pizza was on the pricier end and it wasn't even truffle pizza. The mushrooms were ok. The best part was the hot oil and we enjoyed our pizza with it. Service was good and the food was brought out quick.

Yelp
Great wood oven pizza. Mediterranean class in the middle of an earthy, eclectic, arts community. Their dishes are authentic, their decor is authentic, everything about this place is authentic. So much so that we started to think that the wait staff were putting on fake Italian accents to fuck with us. I love this place. Can't give it high enough praise.

Yelp
Still amazing, btw. My family RARELY goes out to dinner in Toronto, and never downtown. They ventured out to visit from their cozy suburbs and we had an amazing dinner here, I can't understate how much I appreciate the venue for that. Our server was spectacular, the food was great (as literally always), the atmosphere and ambiance was cozy, fun, casual, and warm, all at a reasonable price. I could not ask for more!

Yelp
This pizzeria is my new favourite pizza spot! I visited this place on a Saturday at 5pm (made a reservation the weekend before) and enjoyed a delicious family dinner. Nestled in the middle of Kensington market, this hidden gem filled out bellies and churned out pizza after pizza. Our waitress was enthusiastic and friendly and was tentative to our needs. We started off with 2 of the Frittura Di Pesce - the batter was light, the shrimps were quite big and the calamari was tender. It came with their in house marina with a bit of pepper flakes on top. My only recommendation would be a bit more seasoning on the seafood. Next up were the pizzas. The crust was deliciously chewy with a hint of the wood fire burnt taste, it was sooo good! We ordered 2 bifalina (buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto, this was our favourite, so we ended up ordering a second pizza. Even my 4yo ate the prosciutto, which he normally wouldn't), the calzone was pleasantly good (we expected the usual thick crust and not a lot of toppings, but the one from this pizzeria is on the thin side, the center is packed with pepperoni and Bufala Ricotta - this is a must try!), the funghi pizza is flavourful but it could use more mushrooms, and the capricciosa (prosciutto, mushroom, black olives - I didn't try this one because I don't like olives). We also ordered the linguine allo scoglio (seafood linguine), this had a good mix of mussels, shrimp, baby clams and calamari, but I would've like more of a sauce, it seemed like this was just tossed in olive oil. The food was great, the waitress was friendly and for 6 adults and 2 kids, ordering 4 pizzas, 1 calzone, 2 apps and the seafood linguine was a bit much, we could've made do with 1 less pizza - we didn't even have room for dessert (and I really wanted to try the ricotta and pistachio cheesecake... Next time!).

Yelp
Solid 3.5 stars...maybe one day Yelp will have a 1/2 option. I wasn't feeling pizza, but a salad with chicken sounded great at the time as dinner was a little on the late side that night. My $10 base salad would become $20 after I added chicken to it. Although I only expected a $5 charge for piece of chicken, the price is double and you get 2 pieces. Not a big deal although an option of 1 or 2 would be nice. The waitress told me this would be the case and confirmed I was ok with it which I was. There was another more veteran waitress that came to double check and apologize since that was the only way they could make the salad I wanted. Bonus Points on service! Unfortunately, for a basic salad with chicken, it fell short. Something about the salad just wasn't all that great. The chicken was small and didn't seem worth the $10 after all. Those who had pizza said they liked their meals. Maybe next time I should just stick to what they are known for. The bread however was amazing!!! If nothing else, go for the bread and dip it in some oil and vinegar. Yum!

Yelp
Via Mercanti is the best pizzeria ever. Period. Years ago I read an article about the top 20 pizzas in Toronto where Via Mercanti got the #1 ranking. Inspired by this article, I went on a "pizza tour" and within 2-3 weeks of reading it, I had visited 12 of the contenders before giving up because nothing was as good as Via Mercanti. Now, many years and many pizza restos later I still have that same impression. So what is it about Via Mercanti that makes them so great? First, they have perfected gooey pizza dough like no other. Ultimately, I think this is their biggest advantage as other places might have good toppings too but they just fall short on the dough. Speaking of toppings, the flavours of Via Mercanti's are amazing. Finally, they are super consistent. I have visited all their locations, ordered several times from the Danforth store, and tried several pizzas on the menu. Each time it has been fantastic. The Napoletana and Scarpariello are my two "go-to" pizzas and I cant pick a winner between them. In fact, I have often ordered one of each at the same time! The Napoletana has anchovies, black olives, cherry tomatoes, capers, and oregano, with a good amount of each of those ingredients. It is the more filling of the two. The Scarpariello has Grana Padano, garlic, hot chili pepper, black pepper and basil, so definitely something that would appeal to those with a palate for strong flavours (like me). I have also tried some of their appetizers and they are great too, notably the Potato Crocche, which are crispy breaded mashed potato cakes stuffed with Grana Padano and the Mozzarelline Fritte mini mozzarella balls. Definitely a must try for pizza lovers.

Yelp
$16.95 even tho the website says $13. (Used to have a $10 pick up special which I miss) Not terribly flavorful. The tomato flavor was light. It just tasted like a plain cheese pizza. I wish there was more basil and tomato flavors present. Also, if I'm paying $17 I would hope for more than one basil leaf. That was the most disappointing part. Don't know if I'll go again tbh.

Yelp
This pizza is special. If you grew up with Pizza Pizza, Domino's Regino's. This is completely different. Throw away all the preconceptions of pizza you have and come here. They use the best ingredients and you can tell. From the naturally sweet tomato sauce to the beautiful cheese and light crust, you can easily eat a whole pie yourself. On this occasion, I got the Capricciosa. The first time I came here it was recommended and after having it, I never looked back. Briny olives, savory cuts of meat and of course, the melted cheese and sweet tomato sauce. All sitting on a light as air pizza dough with a slight char. The slight char is so important. Right when you think the pizza is overwhelming with flavor the char comes along and gets you ready for that next bite to round out the abundance of flavors going on. Also, their chili oil is a MUST HAVE. A little tart, but just packed full of flavor. It adds another dimension of spices and fat to a flavor-bomb of a pizza. The best part? It's light. You can't really stop eating, and you never think you ordered enough. Food aside, the staff here is amazing. So friendly, so nice, and so happy we ordered take out. I don't usually comment on a restaurants customer service, but when it'd good, it really adds to the experience. So, if you're anywhere close to Chinatown, make your way to Kensington market and grab a pizza from Pizza Via Mercanti. Trust me, you just have to.

Yelp
Really good pizza at a reasonable price located in the heart of Kensington market. Ordered the mozzarella fritte (small fried mozzarella balls) and the scarpareillo pizza. The server recommended this pizza as the best vegetarian option and I see why! Garlic, chili pepper, black pepper and basil combine for a unique vegetarian option on the menu in addition to the typical margherita, 4 cheese options.
google avatar

Yelp
Whether it's the Pasta or the Pizza, this place fails at failing, kudos to chefs here, always so delicious but more important so hot when delivered. Just a suggestion with your pasta meals, a nice bun to stop up the gravy would be amazing to the last drop.
google avatar

Yelp
What to do with 3 young kids during a lockdown? Let's drive a hour into the city for authentic Napoletana pizza and eat in the car. We arrived around lunch and ordered a mushroom pizza, a few margheritta and a quattro. The staff was amazing and made sure we were set up with extra napkins and oils to eat in the car. The pizza came out quick and hot and the smell engulfed the car. We dove right in and the pizza did not disappoint. The crust was so nice and chewy with a perfect blend of cheese and sauce. Even the kids who are use to pizza from the large chains knew they were having something special. The first few bites brought me back to my vacation in Naples..and satisfied our cravings. Even the left overs the next day tasted amazing! We look forward to dining in the dining room soon and supporting this great local business.

Yelp
Went for an early dinner today at 4:30pm with 4 friends. Two of the friends that came with us have been here before and raved how good it was so we decided to try it. Service was slow, our waiter took our appetizer and dinner order but no drink order. Our dinner came before our appetizer. I ordered a chicken Marsala which the chicken was rubbery in my first bite so I returned it and ordered a pizza which was very watery. Would not go back and don't recommend it...there are better places in the area.

Yelp
Dropped by Pizzeria Via Mercanti for a quick bite to eat while visiting the Kensington Market. It was pretty hot outside and we were tired of standing around and eating, so when we came across this restaurant, it seemed like a good spot to sit around and chill in AC for a bit. The wait wasn't too bad. We arrived on a Sunday a little before 2 pm and waited maybe 15 minutes for a table to open up. It's bigger inside than I thought, as there's a whole seating area in the back as well. I started off with a mimosa ($9), because why not? And then my friend and I shared a simple thin crust margherita pizza for $13. It was delicious, though I wish there had been a little more basil on it and that the crust wasn't charred. But I can't complain too much, as the crust and tomato sauce all tasted very fresh.

Yelp
I absolutely love Pizzeria Via Mercanti at the Augusta location. I have been a loyal customer for years and the pizza keeps getting better and better! The Pizza is by far the best in Ontario. The crust is perfect. I have been to several restaurants that serve pizza and this is by far the best. I have been to Italy several times and this is true Italian Neapolitan pizza. Romolo makes the best pizza! They make their pizza from a real wood burning pizza oven. The staff is always amazing and so friendly. Thank you for everything!
google avatar

Maberry Y.

Yelp
The namesake pizza of this restaurant (Via Mercanti) was tasty, but it was not special. The double crust did not work well - they fell apart easily with bites and were soggy in the middle of the pizza. Overall, the pizza was very salty. The cheese and sauce were good with the basil but there is a definite lack in depth of flavour. The portion size was good enough for 2 people. If we return we will definitely not order this same pie again; perhaps the other single-crust options will be better.

Yelp
3.5/5, +.5 for service Dined here with a friend when I was back in the city over the holidays. My friend recommended this place for awesome pizza in Kensington Market, as he works nearby and has tried many establishments in the neighbourhood. Arriving at around 5:30pm, the place was already full and we had to wait about 30 mins for a table. However it was interesting that by the time we left around 7:30pm, the place was practically empty. I guess Italians dine earlier? I had the Salsiccia e Friarelli, which was pizza with mozzarella cheese, rapini, sausage, and an olive oil coating. It tasted good, but the portion was quite small for $19. The crust is quite unique; it's not exactly thin or thick crust, but felt more like a "puffy" crust. Reminds me of Red Ember Pizza back in Winnipeg. Service was excellent, and yes the reviews were correct in that many have a thick Italian accent. Regardless they're still communicable, and I overall enjoyed my time here and will return next time I'm in the area craving pizza.

Yelp
Had a great dinner here. Pappardelle di funghi was outstanding. The Quattro staggione was ok. Will have to try a more basic pizza before I judge that.

Yelp
This is a very busy Italian Restaurant in the heart of Kensington Market. It was a Friday & the place was JAMMED"! The appie was bread (which was delicious) & we also ordered olives. This is the 1st time I've eaten hot olives. The were spicy & delicious & has onions/red peppers with them. Awesome! The pizza was another thing however....it wasn't great. It was simply mediocre. I ordered the "Pollo". It was tasty but the crust was VERY SOGGY. This was despite the fact that I asked for it extra crispy. This is too bad cause I would/could have ranked it a 5* but not. The service was solid & the waite staff seemed genuinely happy.
google avatar

Lisa V.

Yelp
Their pizza is soooo good. Great selection. Crust is perfectly cooked; thin, golden, bubbly and just a little chewy. The amount of toppings is the perfect amount that the crust can handle. So flavourful! Service was good too! Wouldn't mind going back for some more!
google avatar

Yelp
This is a bold statement to make but here it goes: THE BEST PIZZA IN THE CITY. There are different types of people and we all got our preferences. Some of us like 'em a little top heavy with masses of... toppings. While others are more fond of the bountiful cushion that's found a bit lower - the crust. Since I'm a girl who admires a bit of wealth on a guy, I tend to go for the dough. And the bread on these pizzas is phenomenal! I'm not usually about that thin-crust life, which is why I love this place. It's so soft and wonderful to bite into when it comes out of their wood ovens. What makes me love this place more is that they're very accommodating. Want to remove a topping? You got it! Want to add a topping? Done. Want to faceplant into your pizza? Go right ahead! I got their namesake the via mercanti which was good, but I prefer the regular pizzas. The via mercanti is a pizza on top of a pizza. This should be tasty but I found it a bit overwhelming. Personally, I pick a pizza off their menu with toppings I like and/or sub whatever I don't. I always add mozzarella where appropriate. Portions are quite big so you can definitely share. Add chilli to tailor the spice level if you need it. Service is amazing here and there is always plenty of seating!

Yelp
Came here while visiting Kensington market for some business attire (toms place amazing suit store) for lunch with my parents. The food was outstanding however the service and atmosphere not so good. The Apps: we ordered a pizza fritta which my abruzzese nonna would make all the time growing up. It was very good (fried pizza dough with sauce and cheese) and a caprese salad. The fior di latte/ tomato combination is always a winner in my family. The mains: we ordered the burratina pizza which was outstanding, by far one of the best pizza places as it is a very authentic Italian pizza. The pasta dish was okay, I personally recommend getting pizza when coming here because they arguably have the best pizza. The dough is made in house and the quality of ingredients is top notch quality. The service: I understand it was busy, the wait for our food was not long at all, however I did feel that the one lady serving our table had way to many tables to deal with. Maybe the owner can consider having a few extra bodies on busy days (the weekends). Waited very long for our desserts and the bill. Food: 4/5 Service: 3/5

Yelp
I came here with a group of 10 friends on a snowy Friday night and the consensus at the end of the night is that this place is great! Service is fast, friendly, efficient. The atmosphere is nice and cozy too. They have large tables for larger groups, and I also see plenty of small tables for two people to have a dinner and still able to have a conversation without being drowned out by the conventional loud bar noise. Almost everyone at our table ordered the signature Via Mercanti double layered pizza with ricotta, prosciutto cotto, mixed mushrooms, hot soppressata, topped by their famous margherita. This is a pizza about the size of a standard dinner plate and we were all surprised to find no one at the table was able to finish their double layered pizza! Needless to say the double layers of meat, cheese, and mushroom were as filling as two pizzas. While the taste is great overall, my husband did mention that the disadvantage of the double-layered pizza is that it made the crust soggier so next time we would like to dry their other single layered pizzas. I also had their lasagna and I have to say it is my favorite of the night! I was half expecting it to be salty based on my previous experience, but I was pleasantly surprised that this lasagna was perfect. I enjoyed every bite of it to the very end without needing to chug water the more I ate, and fought with my hubby to finish the rest of this since we were sharing other food! Their baked eggplant (Parmigiana Di Melanzane) was also very yummy. In fact overall I loved this and the lasagna more than the Via Mercanti pizza. I definitely want to come back and try more from their menu.

Yelp
Food was bland, service was nice but very slow and almost absent. Price is decent but I would rather pay the extra $5-10 extra per dish for more quality food.

I really enjoyed the pizza here. Very savory, and the crust is great. I did feel a bit rushed eating though. Yeah

Yelp
*Takeout review* Pizza fritta was awesome. "Pizza Via Mercanti" a.k.a. double layer pizza is definitely a worthy pie for someone who is seeking a different take on pizza.

Yelp
Outstanding pizza and exceptional service. The pizza is better than it is in italy. Robin the server and all the staff were awesome. Mission was the pizza maker and made a vegan pizza for me to die for. This is a top notch experience that will enhance your day.

Yelp
When you dine here it feels like you've just arrived in Italy. Lol. Love the true Italian vibe here and most of the waiters have a very authentic Italian accent. Also addressing me as Señora and saying Gracie when I left. Have to say that the portions are unusually small. Had the ribbon pasta today with mushroom and asparagus. Taste is pretty good but small portion with just a few stands of ribbon pasta for $20. Daily bean soup wasn't good. Too salty and beans were hard. The one thing they didn't do was no one came to ask if we needed any pepper, salt, hot chilli oil, Parmesan cheese, etc. Basically zero service. No one came to ask if we liked the food either. So we just ate and left. Won't be a place for us to come again too soon.

Yelp
Every time I come here I always get pizza. The pizzas are big and can be shared with a friend, but yes, they do taste good. My hubby and I like to sit near the kitchen so that we can watch the Cooks make the pizza. This restaurant is located in Kensington Market so parking isn't easy but you might get lucky and find a spot at nearby.

Yelp
Excellent Pizza! My husband and I came here for dinner and were very happy with the food and service. I ordered the Vegetariana pizza which is a white pizza and my husband ordered the Ciambella Ripiena with a tomato sauce base and a stuffed crust. Both pizzas were full of flavour and the dough was perfect. For dessert we shared the Ricotta Cheesecake which was very good, not too sweet which is what I prefer. There are lots of staff that are friendly and working non-stop. They all seemed happy to be there. Nice, family friendly restaurant which was very busy and I can understand why :)

Yelp
The waitress recommended the quattro fromagio pizza ($19) which doesn't come with any tomato sauce, it came out super fast. The dough was very light, had a char in all the right places and the cheese was so melty. The pizza was surprisingly thin. It was a refreshing authentic Italian pizza, some may not be able to appreciate its simplicity. I wasn't too hungry and I was able to eat about 3/4, I saw many people ordering 1 pizza per person. Service was okay, we were in and out pretty quick. I've been wanting to try here out for a while since its supposed to be one of the best pizza's in TO. It was definitely a good pizza, for flavour + price I prefer the funghi misti pizza from Tosto's... comes with truffle oil

Yelp
Had an amazing family dinner at the Augusta location tonight. The staff was friendly and helpful. We had to wait for our table which was about 20 mins in total but it's okay, because we were dining with a toddler and the table they sat us at was along the wall and out of the way. Which was comfortable. They gave a high chair which we didn't end up needing. Also we stood but the pizza oven, which was entertaining for my nephew. The space is casual dining. Lots of spaces. Big windows at the front. Bar seating overlooking the kitchen. And it seems there's a private dining room in the basement. The food.... we ordered the vegetarian cheese plate to start. It had brussetta, grilled eggplant, ricotta, mozzarella and tomatoes and olives. The small was big enough for the four of us and actually there was leftovers. The staff even cut bread into smaller pieces for my nephew. The mains, we got the chicken pappardelle, seafood linguini and the Mercanti pizza. The seafood linguini came with a lot of seafood. The sauce was light and the pasta was cooked a little more than al Dante which I personally prefer. The pizza was delicious but I was full with one slice so it's definitely something to share. It's two layers, one with meat and then topped with a margarita pizza. With the spicy oil, it was so good. The dessert was okay. I had the Panna Cotta, it was a lot but very sweet. Overall it was a great experience. Reservations is done by either email or telephone. I received a confirmation within 24 hours.

Yelp
This is probably my favorite go to place for pizza. Their sour dough bread will amaze you. Before, you can just ask for it but now they only offer it if you get an appetizer/starter Recommendation: margarita and scarpariello (if you like spicy, def ask for chilli oil)

Yelp
I lived in Italy for 14 years and this is the best pizza in Toronto! On my recent visit we tried the Patate e Pancetta and the 6. Both pizzas were very good but I found the olives to be too strong a flavour. Oh I will Keep going back no doubt, but I think I will get the 6 without the olives.

Yelp
This is the realest review of Pizzaeria Via Mercanti. All the other reviews, aren't true. Italian Ambience? Everyone Italian? Supposedly all the cooks from Naples? Who am I to believe this is true? Anyways... CIAMBELLA RIPIENA is a stuff crust pizza, with spicy meat, ricotta cheese, and with the blandest tomato sauce I've ever had... the sauce was so light, that it seemed like it was mixed with water, but who am I to judge this pizza... only a pizza expect like myself will tell you not how it tastes, but how it made me feel. Quattro Cheese Pizza.. is a pizza with 4 different cheeses with no tomato sauce and substituted with olive oil, this is my favourite pizza ever... Now let's get into the details, the hot pepper olive oil, made everything taste 12 times better... even the side of bread that was offered in the beginning to make you full... The SERVICE, was very good, our waitress was very attentive, and was full of charisma, she made sure we were okay several times. The down and dirty dessert. WARNING THIS MAY OFFEND SOMEONE WHO LOVES CANNOLIS This is the worst dessert in the entire world. Why blend lemon zest and ricotta cheese, and make it the most bitterest thing on the planet??? The crust tasted like burnt toast crust which wasn't appealing at all... most importantly it was two little cannolis for $7, we shouldn't got the gelato instead because I know they wouldn't mess that up... right??? At the end of the day, we have our own opinions, and will boost up any restaurant that we love... but in this case, this is how I feel about it. Thank you

Yelp
Delicious, simple pizza. The crust is bubbly, the mozzarella tastes fresh and the sauce is clean and light. Everything I want in a pizza. They have a $10 margherita pizza and ittybitty salad lunch combo. I prefer Pizzeria Libretto's lunch special. It is $5 more but comes with a full salad portion (more options too) and gelato.

Yelp
I was here for dinner this pass Sunday, and I wish I were able to give this place more than one star, but I was so disappointed and would not go back and don't recommend it. There are so many better Italian places in the area. Foods : FRITTURA DI PESCE - Shrimp and calamari dusted in special seasoning and fried, that was okay but nothing special. Linguine Allo Scoglio - linguine with a bounty of clams, mussels, calamari, shrimp and cherry tomatoes, the pasta was a joke, it was soggy and I could not find a single shrimp in it. Pizza FUNGHI - sliced mushrooms, burned, very watery and so soggy, that would be my only descriptions, never had a pizza like that in my life. Services : Services is a mixed. The male server is rude, aggressive and not helpful at all. On the other hands, female servers are friendly and good. After all, why would I suck these mix bag up if I can spend my money somewhere else where every server is friendly.

Yelp
Worst service ever. We were greeted at the door and advised to sit where ever we liked. We sat down, bus boy brought menus, dishes, and silverware along with water. Then two other tables were seated after us. After 20 mins of sitting there, waiting, the 2 other tables orders were taken while we just sat there without being acknowledged. We then got up and left and no one questioning what or why. Never again!

Yelp
First of all, I am not the biggest fan of pizza, compared to most, and I have gone years without eating it. However, after noticing it was open on New Years day, and seeing John Catucci on their web page I decided it was worth a try for dinner this evening. I ordered for take-out and stuck with the simple Margherita. Customer service when I went in, and when I called to confirm hours, was great; they were very friendly and helpful. The pie was ready in no time. I was really impressed... it was delicious! The crust tasted fresh, as well as all of the minimal ingredients, I loved the real mozzarella. Real and fresh ingredients make a huge difference and I was really pleased with everything. I could appreciate the flavour of everything without anything being over salty or over powering. I would definitely recommend stopping in and visiting Pizzeria Via Mercanti!!

Yelp
The best pizza you will find in Toronto. I was reluctant to come here, due to its location, but the scenery of a dirty street fades away immediately as you walk in and you see the Italian like ambiance, accompanied by the always fitting Italian music. Now on to food. The service was VERY fast, unexpectedly I'd say, and the pizza has not only the look of original pizza, but also the smell and taste. You can tell by the consistency and quality, that it is down with the best of ingredients. Strongly recommend their home red wine as well. TIP: do not order the diavolo pizza unless you're REALLY ok with eating spicy food. Pricing: pizza doesn't go above 20$. With drinks, it is 60$ for 2 people, everything included. I'd say it's affordable
