Where to Find a Pizza During the Restaurant Shutdown - Eater Portland

"Local chain Pizzicato is open for no-contact pick-up and free delivery, and also has take-and-bake pizzas available for those stocking up for a quarantine pizza party. With classic topping options, a long list of veggie specialties, and a few oddball specialties, there’s plenty of variety." - Sam Hill

I get it, I’m not from this city, in San Diego places close between 10 and midnight if they are not open 24 hours. I have been screwed many times going in at 7:50 to get a pizza only to be told they were closed. I was also not allowed to buy a beer while I waited for my pizza to be made and cooked, trust me, I can finish a beer before you can make a pizza. That being said, I really like their pizza. I lived in Naples twice, for a total of 6 1/2 years so I rarely order American pizza. Pizzicato is right around the corner so it’s convenient. I really like this pizza. I have tried a bunch of them but recently I have settled on the Pepperoni Supreme, it is a winner. I also added extra pepperoni and it was delicious. Bottom line is they serve a good pizza, you just have to make sure you plan to be there well before their “closing” time.

Tasty pizza ! Loved their pizza sauce and the toppings they have on each of their pizzas. The pizza crust was kinda thick so had to chew a lot 😝 we got the barbecue chicken and Thai chicken pizza. I liked the Thai chicken pizza more(also may be as I’m more inclined to Asian cuisine ) Had it been a thin crust pizza, it would have made the experience better 😃

Google
Honestly this Pizzicato offers some of the best individual pizza slices I've had locally, and for a reasonable price at that. Their ingredients, especially their sauce, are pretty tasty and fresh. From my experience, service was quick and attentive. The location is pretty clean, both for eat-in and a good space to wait.

Stopped in for lunch. Very reasonable pricing and generous portion by the slice. Establishment is super clean and nice. Staff was friendly and speedy delivery of pizza by the slice. The pepperoni was pretty good, but the slice of the month was fantastic. Ham and dates with caramelized onion and some kind of super creamy cheese. Lunch with two slices was less than $10. Its on my radar and will definitely be back to try more of their variety by the slice. FYI, the salads looked really good too but I didn't get one this visit.

I happen to walk past Pizzicato right around 1:45pm..and was hungry. Plus it was "Slice and a Salad time for $8.95". So I ordered a slice of the combo pizza and arugula pear salad. Both were really good! Salad had plenty of blue cheese and candied walnuts. Pizza was spot on too. After I finished those I noticed the special changes at 2pm, "Beer and a slice for $6.95".. so I ordered that next. Second slice was broccolini sausage and hazelnut...also very good! Beer was a Fort George suicide squeeze IPA; also tasty. Add in a great location and cool interior..made for an enjoyable experience for $15.20 before tip. (2 slices a salad and a beer for $15.20!:)

It's been a long while since the Pizzacato in Vancouver closed so we've been looking for a reason to hear across the river for a reunion. Thankfully our old favorites were still on the menu and have stood the test of time. The location in the Pearl District, was a perfect setting for a casual evening out.

Google
Does pizza get better than this? Just amazing recipes, dough is exquisite, pizza was timely, atmosphere delightful. Block from the park so the kids can play, and 5 minutes from USCIS, where my wife got her citizenship today!

Friendly stuff, comfortable and clean dining area, and fantastic pizza. Strongly recommended!

Yelp
My go-to is a slice and a salad. There's a rotation of seasonal slices like sausage & chanterelle, or you can just get OG's like pepperoni or cheese. Even though the pizza is good, ironically my favorite thing at Pizzicato is the salads! Especially the Caesar salad. It's always SO crunchy & fresh. It comes with a thin baked cheesy cracker-crouton thing that's perfect and the dressing is to-die-for. It's lemony and punchy... just the way Caesar should be. Honestly you should probably get an extra one to dip the crust. Super yummy spot if you're in this neighborhood looking for a bite!

Yelp
I love Pizzicato! They are close to my office and we often go for lunch. The pizza special is always great, it's your choice of a slice and a salad. The salads are killer good: chopped Chinese salad with peanut dressing, pear and argula salad with candied walnuts, Caesar salad, yummmm.... I also love their club panini, which is like a super delicious version of a club sandwich, and also comes with a side salad. They've had an August and September special of an Italian Cobb salad, which is amazing. It looks like a work of art, with chicken, bacon, greens, chickpeas, parmesan and more. My friend got the special of the Fresca pizza and it also looked great. I'm semi-sensitive to gluten (haha, I know) and their gluten free pizza is also great, I especially love the Thai chicken pizza, a flavor bomb! The ambiance is casual and service is always excellent.

Yelp
Unpleasantly surprised how far this pizza tastes from a margarita pizza. This should be called a tomato pizza.

Yelp
Hello All! Welcome back to Portland Pizza Taste Test! #6 is Pizzicato in the Pearl! Had a lovely chat with the worker! Ordered one cheese slice and one Puttanesca Verde slice which had: a Garlic Olive Oil Base, Castelvetrano Olives, Chevre, Roasted Tomatoes, Fennel, Roasted Garlic, Parmesan and Basil sat at a lovely low bar looking towards the street and they have their flavors as movie posters! and total came to $9 the cheese had great sauce/cheese/crust ratio and was thin crust, not too thin! very buttery flavor! the puttanesca verde slice was a little chewier with the dough and im not complaining! the toppings were SO refreshing! loved the roasted tomato chèvre combo! pricing was fair for big slices and great service! overall i am giving this one a solid 8/10

Yelp
Great and reliable pizza spot in Portland! I've only been to this location, but I am aware that there are multiple locations in Portland of Pizzicato. They offer a variety of pizzas (that you can buy by the slice or whole), specials, sandwiches, and more! Every time I've stopped by here, there often isn't many people so service is fast. You order at the counter and go sit down, then when your pizza is done, they bring it out for you! I've tried a number of different pizzas and I think they're all great. I love how the crust is on the thinner side and each pizza is unique in how they match the toppings.

Yelp
There freshly made whole pie is some of the best I've had in PDX. Crunchy and crusty base while still retaining some chewiness. The dough also delivered a lot of flavors which is one of the biggest sign of good fermentation to me. It was a bit of a wait for our large 1/2 and 1/2 pie of Thai Peanut and Hot Honey but I'll wait as long as I need to for something as delicious as the pie we got! The toppings were super fresh and plentiful. I think they strike a good balance of being artisanal and creative with their pies while giving their customer a good bang for their buck; what's not to love about that. Juicy chicken thigh pieces on the Thai Chicken. Lots of cured meats and veggies on the Hot Honey. And plenty of herbs on both giving them unique flavors. Already ready to try out their other combos. I'll definitely be frequenting this spot. Especially on a sunny day, you can order takeout from them and have a little picnic at the Fields Park next door.

Yelp
We are in Portland for our nieces graduation from Lewis and Clark. She recommended this place since we couldn't get into another place that planned to go to nearby. We were so happy that happened because we may never have come here. We ordered a cheese pizza, pepperoni supreme. Also had the green goddess salad and the arugula and pear salad. So delicious...everything!! When here again, we'll be back.

Yelp
It was pretty good we got it for a work meeting and I enjoyed it. I'm not sure what vegan cheese/sauce they use but there was something white and creamy that was tasty on the pizza that I enjoyed. It was a good easy vegan pizza no complaints.

Yelp
If you want something fast, This is the place. Pizza and salad. Pizza can be purchased by the slice or a whole pie. They have indoor and outdoor seating. They have pizza and salad lunch specials as well. Service was fast and the crust isn't thick.
google avatar

Randall M.

Yelp
This location just needs to close, two nights ago called for dinner but they closed early. Tonight they have no cheese or pepperoni slices at 6:00 pm? Why be open just to tarnish the reputation and consistency that this local once Holy Grail of pizza establishment in PDX has built.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been to this specific Pizzicato location twice. The service has been phenomenal both times. Today I had a slice of pizza with fresh cherry tomatoes, balsamic dressing, and fresh mozzarella cheese. The flavors were harmonious and well thought out. I also had corn that came with cheese and lime. My mom had breadsticks. I would happily patron this location in the future when I want a light lunch.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this spot but there was one major issue for me. The flavor of the pizza was really good and promising but the texture just couldn't be overlooked. The crust was unfortunately soggy to the point that it was challenging to even pick up a slice. The reason I've rated 3 stars was that the gluten free pizza was actually quite good. I've tried many gluten free crusts and this one was pretty darn good comparatively. I recommend this place if you cannot eat gluten but assuming you are not gluten free it left a lot to be desired.

Yelp
Anya was a breath of fresh air while taking our boomer pizza order over the phone. Upbeat, polite and accurate. We already know the pizza rocks but the pleasantries were a very nice addition. Anya, ask for a raise!

Yelp
Consistently good pizza and salads. The slice & salad promo for lunch is great and a good value.

Yelp
Pizzacati is a solid place for slices. I like this location in the pearl. Next to the fields and tea bar, along the streetcar line and there always seems to have street parking. I like to work here and enjoy the free WiFi and a slice. Staff is super friendly and it's never very crowded
google avatar

Clare M.

Yelp
I ordered the daily special "farmer's market" It had veggies & goat cheese. Absolutely delicious. Will stop here whenever I'm back in Portland

jamal h.

Yelp
Pizza was better than expected. Flavors were strong. Lots of toppings. The toppings were high quality. Dough was slightly undercooked, but that's a personal preference. The pizza wasn't perfect and it's not close to the best ever, but for pearl selections, it's very very solid. Would recommend.

Yelp
I happened upon this little jewel of a pizzaria while visiting the city for work. Immaculately clean!.. soft, pleasant music in the background; outdoor seating and a wonderful staff! I enjoyed their daily lunch special of a slice and salad ($8) !! There are several selections to choose from and I chose the arugula pear salad brimming with candied walnuts and just the perfect amount of dressing. I paired that with a putanesca slice which includes artichoke hearts, tomatoes, kalamata olives, garlic and feta cheese. The crust was thin and crispy and the topping fresh and vibrant.. (see photo). This place is a keeper!..

Yelp
For a light lunch or a fun meal with friends pizzicato is a great place to go! I got the Puttanesca pizza slice today and it was delicious! The service is. As lasts friendly and fast. You can't go wrong with this place!
google avatar

Christina C.

Yelp
I love going to Pizzacato! They're a solid pizza spot. I like getting their slices cause they're huge and the topics taste fresh! I also really like their arugula pear salad which consist of arugula, mixed greens, pears, Gorgonzola, candied walnuts, and balsamic dressing. Another one of my favorites is their breadsticks! They are filled with mozzarella and have great bread to cheese ratio and it's just amazing with the marinara sauce. If you're ever craving pizza and want a solid spot to go to, I would look I to Pizzacato!

Yelp
Great pizza but the third time that I visit the place to take out one of the employees ask me questions like I was a homeless. I was the only one that she ask felt prejudiced. But the pizza is great.

Yelp
All bundled up with tobogan hats, gloves and scarfs we walked in a rare PDX snow flurry over to Pizzacato located in the tallest high rise (Cosmopolitan) in the Pearl District. It is also between two great walking parks, Tanner Springs and Fields Neighborhood Park. Inside and outside seating along the "street-scenic" wooden boardwalk creates a convivial space for a meet up for pizza, brew and chit-chat. We enjoyed the space as well as the pizza. We made it just in time for happy hour (2-5 PM) to try the pizza slice special with a craft brew on tap--beer and slice for $6.95. It is a great value. But I am less impressed with value and more impressed with quality. The pizza is very good. Baked on a pizza stone. It passed my crunch test. Nice crust! Good crunch! Not overcooked! Not soggy! Generous tasty toppings! And a Boneyard IPA for us! Now for quality: Pizza dough is hand tossed fresh daily using dough supplied by Grain Craft Flour Mills, Pendleton, Oregon. They source local wheat and sustainable ingredients. The conglomerate of companies has roots back to 1910. Going on the web, they are committed to the environment by minimizing their environmental footprint and conserving natural resources. Grains are processed with recycling, local power efficiency, motion lights and wheat grower education. Grains are moved maximizing rail and truck capacity--I like companies that care--cuz I care too--so I take time to know where my food comes from and support companies who care and support local farmers. Good taste! Good value! Good quality! We'll be back before the next snow flurry!

Yelp
This place is sooooo amazing. The food is high quality and the ingredients are super fresh. Thank God they have gluten free options that actually taste delicious. Even apps have gluten free options.
google avatar

Genevieve F.

Yelp
Pizzicato used to be a reliable pizza go to, but it's quality has rapidly been declining. I ordered their January 2021 special panini and it looked nothing like the photo. Here I was preparing myself for sandwich nirvana when an anemic airplane quality roll with a touch of toppings showed up. I emailed corporate and heard nothing. Disappointed that the food wasn't as advertised and dually disappointed that they no longer seem to care.
google avatar

Carol Hartman D.

Yelp
Always fresh and tasty with great salads too. Always stop here for lunch near a playground and near Powell's what more can you desire?
google avatar

Jennifer M.

Yelp
I absolutely LOVE Pizzacato, but this location fell short for me. We ordered two pies and a medium salad. The total was $52 (not bad for 5 people). The salad came out and was as expected. Our pizzas came out and the crust was soggy, maybe not cooked enough?? They were understaffed so everything took longer than anticipated. I'm ok with waiting if the food is worth the wait, but this food wasn't. Too bad because it's a fun location.

Yelp
Well, we've been seeing all the construction and new restaurant gear going on for a weeks now, and walla the place opens up today with no fanfare. Great to have a high end Pizza spot on these everyday expanding Pearl neighborhood. Welcome!
google avatar

Sonny S.

Yelp
The Al Greco is amazing. If you have initial reservations upon reading the ingredients, be assured I did as well. Give it a shot and you won't be let down (make sure you get the tzatziki sauce it comes with). Also Ben who works here is amazing. Thank you Ben.

Yelp
We visit Portland often and we used to enjoy coming to Pizzicato. Not anymore, especially after our experience last night. We ordered pizza to go, one of them being gluten-free. The order taker was well aware that I needed a GF pizza because we discussed the specific limitations of GF offerings. Upon returning home with the pizza I realized it wasn't gluten-free. The meal ruined and uneatable, the whole experience of getting a refund was made worse. Justin the manager talked over me entire time I try to explain what happened telling me that he wouldn't listen to anybody that was disparaging one of his employees. Don't bother eating here. Not worth dealing with stupidity and arrogance.

Tyrese T.

Yelp
Whoever owns this pizza Cato, update your merchandizing software to take Apple Pay, lazy mf.. it's 2022
google avatar

Joe B.

Yelp
I got a small pepperoni with mushroom and onion. The pizza had an additional herb blend on top that was unique. The small is definitely a good size for one person. The menu had a few interesting additions, like the all veggie that I'll try next time. They do have a gluten free option.
google avatar

Jaycee J.

Yelp
Pizza was meh. Workers were super rude and short with us. We felt rushed to order even though nobody was behind us.
google avatar

Klaus O.

Yelp
Great pizza and great salads. As this place is just across the street from where I live I go there frequently, especially for lunches on the weekends. There is outside seating available. The service is friendly and the food is good. The lunch special is less than nine bucks for a slice of pizza and an accompanying salad. A great place to grab a quick good lunch.
google avatar

Tom N.

Yelp
Great pizza spot if you are in the Pearl District. My kids rated crust 10/10 and cheese part 9/10. They are 6 and 10 but super picky, so I think it's high praise. My wife got a bbq chicken pizza and she is dairy free and loved it. Great pizza & great sidewalk seating
google avatar

Evan C.

Yelp
If you value crispiness in your pizza then Pizzicato pearl is for you. Too many places these days over saturate their pies in sauce (hot lips, naughty) leading to a soggy endeavor. I've enjoyed this location a few times now, & each time it hasn't disappointed. I can't speak for the quality of all locations but this one seems to have a higher standard. Their slices are reasonably priced too, so it won't break the bank. They have an assortment of wines and beer, as well as patio seating. Their specialty puttanesca slices are full of enticing flavor, each bite left me wanting more. The pepperoni is hard to stray away from, however. I shall return in a fortnight. Buona sera pizzicato.

Yelp
I came here very excited to try the October seasonal pizza (maple bacon apple walnut) on a day where half the restaurant was closed off for a wedding. There were maybe 50 other people and I thought "oh no, service will be terrible." I was so wrong. Salad and pizza came out in less time than expected, our picky requests were remembered and met, and the staff checked in to make sure everything was going well. I am always a fan of the pizza and salads, but I give 5 stars for exceptional service on what looked like a chaotic day.
google avatar

Mitchell W.

Yelp
Not sure about the bad reviews, we've ordered pickup from here about 4-5 times and it's been a great experience every time. During COVID we have been doing pickup, and it's always a seamless process. Short wait times, easy pick up, and delicious pizza. I would recommend the bbq or Thai chicken pizza. The bread sticks are on point as well.
google avatar

Son B.

Yelp
We had been told by a gent at the hotel this was the place to go. Maybe other days he had a good experience, but it was not this day. We wondered if we wanted to dine as we saw sad, dried out pizza by the slice clearly past the prime, but thought we could try? What did it for us was as we stood there for several minutes watching an argument between employers, angry people in the kitchen and several other employees walk right by us as if we did not exist. No smile. No greeting. Just lots of angry people and sad dry pizza.

Sainshur G.

Yelp
I ordered a panini with a salad as a side. There was this mysterious curly short hair in my salad. Ewww Grosssss! Everything went to a trash!

Jojo V.

Yelp
I had pizzicato the first time I came to Portland and now that I live in the city I try to visit this place every few weeks, it's the best pizza in the city and I recommend to everyone!!!!!!Cheese PizzaCheese Pizza

Yelp
one of my favorite pizza places. its uber bougie as can be, but i still love it. I feel like when i get a slice of pizza in a bright turquoise box like theirs, i'm getting a slice of pizza from Tiffany & Co. ... That's like the ultimate of bougie pizzas... and it does taste that good, while being only a quarter more than SOME places. the environment is nothing short from the new Pearl. But I don't care, i'm getting good pizza. like actually good pizza with logical names to them, so I can easily remember what I got.
google avatar

Mary R.

Yelp
Boy... I really don't get these reviews. Pizzacato pizza's are amazing and in our experience, wayyyy superior to Hot Lips in the Pearl. Our favorites are Rudy's pizza and Squissata - both of which are lamb sausage based and quite simply out of this world. The crust is chewy and delicious, the service has been excellent (we order take out) and the pizzas are creative and sumptuous. So- Pizzacato rules in our book and, wallet.
google avatar

Alexio A.

Yelp
My experience at the Pizzicato Pearl was the best I've had at any location. I was immensely surprised by their professionalism during such trying times. The manager, Justin, was incredibly helpful during our exchange over the phone. His recommendations were incredible and the Fresca pie was one of the best I've had. I cannot wait to indulge on more breadsticks next time. I forgot to take a photo of the yummy pizza, I won't next time!
google avatar

Danna R.

Yelp
Pizza was actually good. Hand tossed and made to order. Only there was no warning that it would take an hour to make. They were soooooooo slow! And since you pay at the counter when you order, you and your money are held hostage. You hungrily wait. It wasn't busy, there weren't too many people. Inexcusable. Unreasonable. Unnecessary. No apologies, too, from the people in the store. Will never be back.
google avatar

Saffron P.

Yelp
Waited outside until 11:10, closed sign was still up. Also, it seems odd to me that they serve hard alcohol, and tap beer but don't have tap soda. Go ahead and get a Coke machine (like your other locations), and I'll come back... If you're open by 11. Edit: changing from two stars to one star. I'm sitting outside and playing greeter for this restaurant, letting people know that they are, in fact, open. Closed sign still up, I should get a commission for this.
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
I don't love or dislike this place. I love that it's convenient. Apparently the pizza is bomb but I'm a low carb gal so I have to go on my hubbys word. I will say that a pizza with cauliflower and romesco sounds amazing. A few times I came here and the servers looked like they had a rough night and a bad hangover. One guy even told me he was so tired he could barely stand. Maybe keep that to yourself. The salads are meh. The Cesar is basically lettuce in a box with some Chicken chunks. Well I could do that at home. The Greek is better but I love a Cesar. So at this place I would stick to the Greek salad. The chicken is not massively tasty. Just bland pulled white meat, no seasoning. There are some obvious and easy improvements that could be made there. I mean really easy. The bread product all look and smell tasty. They have beer and wine and it's clean and simple inside. Typical pearl district design ethic, concrete floors and pillars, cool lighting. My biggest issue here is they never fill my complete order for carry out. 5 minutes between placing my order and it being ready and somehow in that time they forgot half the order. If you order to go, check your order before you walk out. It sucks when you order chicken in your salad and get home to find it missing. I ordered a salad and a hummus plate. Salad came right out but no hummus. Took another 10 minutes to get the hummus plate. Just seems lazy. Just tighten it up a bit guys, attention to detail and wake up! That will be a major improvement.
google avatar

Jenn D.

Yelp
To be honest, I was let down by the place. It was rated reasonably high on Yelp, but I found it to be pretty subpar. The salads were small, albeit tasty. The pizza slices were extremely generous, but they had clearly been made at the start of the day, possibly even day-old, and sat under heat lamps, so they were not super fresh. It was all just OK, and I would definitely pick somewhere else to eat if I were you. We happened to be in town on a holiday, so it was one of the only places open!
google avatar

Melissa P.

Yelp
This place is a true gem! My husband and I had our wedding reception at this location and it was absolutely perfect. Everyone was unbelievably accommodating and they really helped make our day beyond memorable. Jessie, the manager, met with us several times before to discuss the logistics and contributed some really helpful ideas. On the day of, October 7th, he had extra staff on shift and had fresh food coming out the whole time. If you're planning a low key event definitely consider this Pizzicato not only as a caterer but as a venue. Our Portland park wedding was everything we wanted and more!
google avatar

Alisia F.

Yelp
They're always understaffed. Extremely slow. And their pizza slices look like they've been sitting out all day. I've never been there and seen fresh pies coming out the oven for folks who want slices, and this is even during rush lunch time.
