This park turns golden in autumn, its trees glowing in warm shades of amber and gold. Simply spellbinding. It’s easy to see why it has inspired so many dreamers, poets, and painters over the centuries.

One of the prettiest and most elegant squares in Paris. Place des Vosges is calm and full of history, with beautiful symmetrical red-brick buildings, charming covered arcades, and a peaceful green garden in the center. A perfect spot to walk, sit, relax, and enjoy the timeless Parisian atmosphere. Had my breakfast in carette and walked all over the place. I found some authentic shops such as leather goods , perfumes and so many Art exhibition. and the Maison Victor Hugo museum Ps. I could live in this square forever. ☺️

Places desVosges was visited on a cold January day, but the atmosphere was very pleasant. People were walking around the park in a relaxed manner, and the overall vibe was calm and positive. A short stop, but a nice experience.

Place des Vosges is an absolute must-visit. Seriously, it's my favorite park of all time! It might be small, but it's incredibly charming and instantly transports you to a quieter time. It's especially stunning during the late summer and autumn when the leaves start turning those incredible shades of gold, red, and brown—the photo ops here are just unreal! Be prepared for it to get super busy when the weather is nice, but trust me, it’s worth navigating the crowds. It's perfect for a quick, peaceful stroll or, even better, planning a full picnic lunch on the lawn. And the best part is you’re surrounded by amazing local finds! There are tons of cafés, restaurants, chic boutiques, and brilliant boulangeries just steps away. Grabbing a fresh baguette, some cheese, and a pastry to enjoy right in the park is essential. Plus, there are so many fascinating things to see and do in the immediate area.

This square lives up to its reputation as one of the most tranquil squares in Paris. It's definitely much more intimate than Place de la Concorde. The entire square is framed by uniform red brick houses of about 30 odds with white stone and blue slate roof. You must explore the vaulted stone walkway arcades if only to admire the many boutique shops and artisan businesses covering the entire arcades. I stopped at number 6 which is the very famous Maison Maison de Victor Hugo museum but it was closed. The garden inside this square is Louis XIII Square with the equestrian statue of King Louis XIII, four fountains, and rows of linden and chestnut trees. You're getting two historical sites for the price of one. The entire square and garden the jewel of the Marais and a peaceful oasis in the middle of Paris. Absolutely must explore.

Very cool park, the symmetry is amazing, you can either rest on the seats or hang out on the grass. I always have my lunch here with the sandwich I bring, it is peaceful and a nice escape

This restaurant could be easily missed, but if you like incredible house made Foie Gras, in a cozy atmosphere, at reasonable prices do not miss the opportunity to drop in for a wonderful meal.

This park is not big but it's beautiful layout with fountains and sculpture of Louis XIII. I thoroughly enjoyed watching people passing by or sit on the grass enjoying a lunch on a beautiful sunny day.

Place des Vosges in the Marais is so beautiful. It used to called the Place Royale. is the oldest planned square in Paris, France. It has a history of royal people making it and living there. You can see Victor Hugo's house. It's a very peaceful little park. There are shops and restaurants around it.

My favorite square in Paris - Place Des Vosges is beautiful any time of year and often filled with locals chatting or watching their children play. It's full of history too - built by Henri IV in1612, many famous people have lived in the buildings that surround the square. Today, there are lots of interesting galleries, a few expensive restaurants and the Victor Hugo museum. FYI - the museum is free and a great way to see inside the historical buildings.

Sorry this is late. We stayed in Le Marias district (precovid) for a few days during our anniversary in Paris in early 2020. In the mornings, I went to the Boulangerie for my croissants, then enjoyed them here at Place des Vosges where it was so peaceful and quiet. Not a person in sight just the birds singing and enjoying my French croissants. There's so much history here and I really enjoyed just sitting in different locations around the park, admiring the architecture. I was told it's packed during the summer. Definitely would travel back here during the summertime to check that scene out. Oh - if you like French tea, go to Dammann Frères which is literally right near the entrance. They were amazing and their green tea had a hint of fruitiness to it. Cheers!

I really really really wanted to love and adore this place, but left underwhelmed after 6 nights here. Shower that dripped at all hours of the night, very poor lighting with black carpets, made searching for dropped items a chore of great magnitude. $30 for a boring breakfast buffet with excessively long wait for what turned out to be tepid coffee. "Honor" bar with dishonorably high prices. Tiny room which had a coffee machine but I had to ask EVERY DAY for coffee and cream? Fresh flowers upon arrival that became a dry dead mess of pollen by the 6th day. 6 days is too long not to refresh the flowers. Chocolates some nights and none on others. Staff was professional, but this in no way a five-star experience. I'd give it 4 starts max and mostly for its excellent location.

Public park with amazing history. A beautiful spot to relax and hang out with Parisians. Architecture!

This a busy park. It is clean. Made for the locals. It is surrounded by restaurants and stores. B and I came here couple times. The park is definitely a tourist spot. It has beautiful statues, fountains, plants and green grass. It is great for picnics and gatherings. B and I came here on the day that we just landed in Paris. I planned out a relaxing day and Place des Vosges was on the list. It is a beautiful park for picture taking.

I wanted to see the Place des Vosqes square because it's said to be the oldest and one of the prettiest squares of Paris and because of the history of the place. It was a lovely day to visit with so many young people enjoying the sun on the lawn or chatting in the shade of the pretty trees. And of course surrounding the square are the buildings with galleries and cafes along the covered walk. It is a nice yet small green space to rest within otherwise busy part of the 3rd arrondissement. Or is it the 11th? Close to!

The imagery will stay with me: one of long allées of plane trees, girding all four sides of the Place. I like the word "old"-- and being so, so much to enjoy in Paris. This is the oldest square in the city, designed in 1612 (5 years after Pont Neuf). Commissioned by Henry IV, the arcade was originally to house a silk factory, in order that his estranged wife (de Médicis) would be well supplied with lingerie. That never came to be. A high class type of quartier until late 1700's, when it became a gritty East End industrial hub Enter 1960's, when this and 3ème are declared historic districts. Now-- it's bobos that call this area home. Indeed, this King Louis XIII square is large and grand - stone's throw away from Musee Picasso, I walked through here and sat down on a bench, beholding the quiet Thursday morning and imagining all that Hugo (lived at no. 6) would have seen the years he lived in the southeast corner. I enjoyed the quiet, observing others' visit to this historic square that was a former horse market, and whose former name was Place Royale. Cute art stores and galleries dot its periphery, and sit-down restaurantsk can be found here as well. Stop. Can you smell the linden yet? PS Issey Miyake's office is located on the SW corner ( my favorite perfume!)

A fabulous place for a picnic in a particularly old part of Paris. Take a rest only meters from where Victor Hugo lived. Tourists and locals can equally enjoy this square with grass, benches shaded by trees, fountains, a dusty promenade boarder, and a just-right playground. Rest your wandering feet: listen to the birds, take in the beauty of Paris slightly shielded from the hustle bustle, and let your mind do the wandering.

As the oldest planned square in Paris, this should be on your list. My husband even studied this place in architecture school! Also cool that Victor Hugo lived here. It's a beautiful place to stroll on a cold/ rainy day, since you can do laps around the square with minimal exposure to the elements. Well, except wind. That wind can be brutal and unrelenting, but luckily when I was there, it wasn't too windy. A number of fun shops and art galleries lines the perimeter. It's a picturesque place, and if it was a warm day, I would have ventured into the park in the middle as well. The architecture is beautiful and it's also a nice place to stop in a cafe for a cup of tea or get a fun hat or some lovely jewelry. My other reviews go into greater detail on those.

I'd really like to spend more time here on my next trip to Paris. This destination might not sound like it should be high on your to-do list but it's really lovely here and would be a relaxing place to picnic. We were on our way to another location but as we passed through I had a brief opportunity to see some of the art in nearby galleries. I would really like to explore more of what they have to offer as well. As others have said, it's not to be missed.

Sitting around and doing nothing is one of my strong suits, and Place des Vosges makes it seem almost effortless. Truly, any laymen could wander around the Marais, stumble into this square and look like they've been doing nothing for years. Surrounded by gorgeous arched buildings in every direction, this picturesque plaza is filled at all hours of the day with kids playing soccer, old men enjoying a stroll through the park, and couples engrossed in each other. We were staying nearby and didn't realize the square had so much history; it was simply a lovely, peaceful place we made a point of walking through nearly every day. Apparently though, this is the oldest square in all of Paris, once home to Victor Hugo and Cardinal Richelieu and the birthplace of Madame de Sevigné. All I know is it's the perfect place to sit as the sun goes down, surrounded by Parisiens speaking their beautiful language. They could've been smiling in my face and telling me to go fuck myself, but it certainly sounded good.

Quiet, lovely, serene, happy park. Surrounded by cute restaurants and shops it is the place to be! I wish I would've spent more time in this cute area. There is a market around it as well. Many stores for great shopping. When I return to Paris this area will be at the top of my list. It makes for a more restful and relaxed day.

Just a park in Paris, I don't think so. The Place Des Voges is located in the Le Marais district of Paris and it is the oldest square in the city (1612). It was also the backyard of the famous Victor Hugo. His family apartment (6) overlooks the park. We stopped off at a local cafe and grabbed some delicious sandwiches and fresh, juicy strawberries and made our way to this park to enjoy our lunch. Obviously, a locals spot, it was filled with casual Parisians resting, reading and relaxing. Plenty of shade from the large trees that surround the park and pleasing architectural water fountains dotting the park. Fresh water for filling up your water bottles was a delight to find since back home our water is questionable. I wish I could have just laid down and taken a nap, this place was so relaxing. Lining the park were some art galleries, shops and cafe's. While strolling, we came upon a special summer museum all about Victor Hugo so my daughter and I toured his interesting apartment and learned so much about the man himself and his family. Definitely a must see for any history buff while in Paris and a great park to kick off your shoes and soak up some sun!

Nestled in the historical Le Marais district of Paris, Place des Vosges is a beautifully elegant square featuring plenty of art galleries, dining spots, and extensive lawns for relaxing. It's not to be missed as you stroll through the small cobblestone streets while exploring Le Marais. I felt like this was one of the areas I've visited with the most Parisian locals, and it was packed with people of all ages. It served as home to plenty of famous Parisians, including Victor Hugo, who lived in an apartment in Place des Vosges for 16 years.

One of my favorite parks in Paris. I recommend that you bring a coffee and spend the morning people-watching. It's exceptionally relaxing, and you'll really get to see a wide range of people.

Place Des Voges circa early 1600's and the surrounding Marais district is one of my favorite places to visit when in Paris. The Place is a quiet open, formidable retreat from swirling madness of Parisian city life surrounding it. The park hosts multi generations who are content to be chilling on the lawns. This charming plaza is flanked by art galleries and cafes. Almost any exit you choose from the Place will take you into the 3rd or 4th arrondissement which are lined by with charming shops, galleries, museums, cafes. Enjoy your day in the Place and Marais district.

La Place Des Vosges is one of the places in Paris that makes my Romantic lil' heart beat all the faster, even at the mere remembrance. I don't know how I can possibly convey in text what makes this square (incidentally, the oldest in Paris) so dear to me; it's like a sacred space, secular hierophany in rosy-hued brick. The atmosphere is enivrant. Nowhere in America do I *feel* the centuries-in-the-making sensation of a refined society as palpably as I do in Paris, and I get a concentrated dose of this ineffable sensation when I step into la Place des Vosges. But even if you don't yourself sense my hyperbolic unnamed feeling, Vosges is undeniably beautiful. The image of the redbricked buildings soaking in the backdrop of a cerulean sky is magnificent. You can at the very least imagine the scene set with some of French history's characters...Hugo, Sévigné (both former occupants here along with many other illustrious souls)..and stroll with a spirited mind and an enlightened eye. Or check out the gorgeous girls and gars who are strolling next to you. I feel like a jerk giving Place des Vosges 3.5 stars so I'll gladly round up. Yes, I've made it abundantly clear that I am a park enthusiast. Urban green space blah blah blah. I've mentioned it time and time again. Urban green space ensconced in history and surrounded by grand buildings that get my real estate envy roaring? That sounds like a home run, n'est-ce pas? Well, it is. It should be. I was left a wee bit cold about PdV despite all the ingredients it has to make me a fan. And I was left cold for reasons not entirely fair to it. When I was there (on a sunny late morning on a Thursday), the park was overrun by screaming teenagers, rude tourists and oblivious locals. I suppose that's to be expected, right? It's (one of) the city's oldest park(s). There are going to be people. Lots of people. Annoying people. A private respite, it's not. But, I suppose if you use your imagination, it's possible to enjoy the hidden garden and escape back in time to the days of Hugo. It's possible. But all bets are off if Cosette castles-on-a-cloud her way into my reverie. I'm an Eponine kind of guy. 'On my own... '

Perhaps my favorite spot in all of Paris, definitely in the top three along with the Tuileries and Parc Monceau. It is a gorgeous historical restoration that actually has a use - stores, apartments, etc., so it is not a museum, but a living, breathing architectural masterpiece. As if that isn't enough, the buildings surround an immaculately maintained and exceptionally friendly park, that is filled with people (but not unbearably so) on nice weather days. My first visit here was in 1990 and a model photo shoot was taking place. Subsequent visits proved less dramatic, but entirely enjoyable nonetheless. It is a lovely place to bring a ham-and-cheese baguette and have a lovely picnic on a sunny day. By all means, make sure this is on your Paris agenda. It is very easy to find and would be a shame to miss out on!

So enjoyable So beautiful So symmetrical One of the best offerings for ALL ages in my visit to Paris, this semi-secluded garden for everyone delivers on its offering splendidly. The greens are so green; the lounging areas are naturally welcoming, and the places to be rambunctious are suitably apportioned. Friends laugh, lovers entwine, kids swing and run around, and everyone comes away a little better than when they entered. It isn't a tremendous space, nor is it rife with noteworthy monuments like the Tuileries, for example, but its compact nature among a maze of surrounding buildings makes it a refreshing little oasis. You're here less to see a site and more to be among people - and it excels for that purpose. Find a bench, or a patch of green, or stroll within its paths, or even around its perimeter, and soak in its vibe. This is a great place to clear your mind, be at ease, and smile. Well worth navigating to, from wherever you're coming from around Paris. A fine break from much of the go-go-go, but I'd argue equally as important.

We completely stumbled upon this park during a walk through its neighborhood and am so glad we did. It is stunning, perhaps one of my favorite in the city. Surrounded by some of the most beautiful architecture there is, the park has a neat vibe to it....Parissiennes dining al fresco, tourists photographing the lovely fountains (there are 4...one in each corner), locals sunning themselves on the gardens lawn, it was was a great place to breathe in Paris life. Not to be missed.

A very nice little plaza surrounded by townhomes formerly inhabited not just by the nobility, but by royalty. Then when they went down, the place was inhabited by famous individuals such as Richelieu and Victor Hugo. I've always found it interesting that the Queen's residences were ACROSS the plaza from the King's. Pretty darned convenient. Hmmm... There are plenty of benches to hang, people watch, feed the rats on wings and eat your lunch. There are rows and rows of trees for shade too! Don't miss the statue of Henri XIII in the middle. Also, the ground floor shops and restuarants are great for afternoon promenades.

Sadly, I came here right in the middle of winter. But, I still was able to see the potential beauty that is in this park. I would say skip it in winter since it's a bit far away from the other tourist spots. But if it's in summer time, and you have extra time, make the trek and enjoy the space.

A wonderful place to lounge and loll around on a sunny afternoon. But our favorite time of day here is Sunday morning, any time of year, when students from the local conservatories bring their violins and violas to the southwest arcade for seemingly impromptu concerts. Some of the best live music we have ever heard wafted out of the excellent acoustics of this passageway. Like any major city, Paris has its homeless, and this Place shelters them on many a cold night. But they are harmless and mind their own business. The upper Marais is our favorite neighborhood in the City of Lights, and this square is one of its many wonderful touchpoints.

Very Parisian. Very beautiful. Its a bit out of the way, but its worth a see. Visit this location while you're already on this side of town and find a restaurant in the area, otherwise it's worth leaving until your next trip here when it's convenient. :) (this is how I feel in general about parks. Meh.)

It's a Nice Park The park is is quiet because is protected by buildings on all four sides. However, it is on the small side and there really isn't much of interest. if you are looking for a place to relax, this is a good option. If you are looking for a significant landmark, this park should be very low on the list.

Place des Vosges is perhaps my favorite petit park in all of Paris. It reminds me of another time, another world where things were a bit more beautiful, a bit more civilized and a bit more slow-paced. There's not much to it -- park benches, trees, a fountain here and there. Parisians come to relax, picnic, take in the sun or stroll the covered corridors as they window shop. Place des Vosges is definitely a place of leisure, and one should do leisurely things while here. Like: - eat macaron in the shade of the poplar grove - read a book on a quiet bench - sip an espresso in a cafe overlooking in the green space from the galleries - people watch as you drift off for a nap The history of Place des Vosges is quite interesting -- built in the early 1600s by Catherine de Medici on the grounds where her husband, Henry IV was killed, it is the first of its type in terms of residential squares. It is quite grand and quite gorgeous -- I really wish non-residents were allowed inside the buildings to check them out! But alas, we are left with only the beautiful park to enjoy... So go enjoy it!

Low-key but nice little plaza in the middle of busy Paris. Really unexpected and it really makes you feel like you're somewhere else. So much history within this little plaza. there're also lots of cafes and shops around the Plaza Perfect place for a picnic on a nice day

La Place des Vosges is my favorite spot in all of Paris. I dream of the day I'll return to le Marais, kick off my shoes, lie back on a stretch of vibrantly green grass, nibble on a flute spread with Nutella, watch the clouds idly floating by, and soak in the history and the beauty of this little square. Whether I'm strolling through the arcade, listening to the squeals of children playing in the grass, or enjoying a cafe au lait in one of the restaurants, I've never been unhappy here. I was lucky enough to have had a longtime resident of Paris walk with me through the gardens and tell me stories reflecting the history of the square, pointing out which famous citizen of Paris would have looked out of which window, and who got stabbed in a duel where. I still glance up sometimes to see if perhaps I might get a glimpse of Anne, Louis, Catherine, or Henri . . .

Um, it's a small urban park. Pigeons? Check. Sparrrows? Check. Picnicking college students? Yep. Lots of tourists sitting on benches and eating bulging falafel sandwiches from L'As du Falafel? Why yes, there are. It's a pleasant enough place to pause from the hustle-bustle of Paris to have a quick lunch or just catch your breath, and then perhaps pop into the free Victor Hugo museum (he lived for a while in an apartment on the square), but otherwise I wouldn't go out of my way to make a special trip here. If you're looking for a grand Parisian park experience, I'd recommend the Tuileries Gardens over this Place.

The oldest square in Paris. A beautiful place to sit and rest for awhile between the mad hurry of seeing all the Paris attractions. Relax for a bit, sit on a bench, eat a snack, people watch at the square, have a conversation, admire the architecture, and just be lost in thought. For a mid November day, it was pretty empty and secluded, but we enjoyed having some time to give our feet a much needed break here.

Why would you want to eat inside if you lived or worked next to Place des Vosges. Grab you sandwich and go grab a bench or a place on the grass. If the weather is bad, just take an umbrella and suck it up. It still beats being inside.

We liked incredible view of the buildings, great park and huge fountains. We loved watching the impromptu, 100-strong protest against DSK, that included a woman with a giant cardboard coffin on her back that said "Justice is Dead". We were bemused by the counter-protest of 10, much uglier women who were chanting DSK's name and throwing flowers at his apartment. We were concerned by the old guy in a trench coat who seemed poised to flash my entire family at any minute.

A little less know to the great public, but it's such a beautifull place to visit. You can even bring something to eat and drink, and make a picnic out of it. The galery arches around the Place are amazing and a must see.

It's nice, yes. I imagine it is splendid in sunshine. Unfortunately 90% of my recent time spent in Paris has been accompanied by drizzle. So the Place des Vosges just seemed like a damp green square to me. There are 4 fountains, they weren't on. But I understand why. What is the point of spraying up water when it is also coming down? It's one of those places that makes Paris what it is, but by itself is not amazing. Gorgeous buildings, fountains, greenery, laziness, romance. All the Parisian staples. A great place to munch on your lunch in the sun, I imagine.

Great plaza to visit when in Paris! Lovely architecture and relaxing feel (first time I passed through was late at night so it was pretty serene and quiet). Second time I passed through was during the day when it was more packed with people and lively. You should definitely visit both times to get some nice contrast (as with most historical sites). It's definitely a great destination as well as a nice transition as you cross neighborhoods. I think Paris is a bit better than New York for pedestrians as there is a nicer concentration of small shops and neighborhoods (districts/arrondissements).

Beautiful square in the Marais district of Paris. nice place to sit and have a coffee baguette or just enjoy the people watching. Nice because its locals and not American tourists. So for a great place to chill out for an hour and enjoy Paris, come have a sit here. this is one of the public parks where they really don't want alcohol so save your wine for the banks of the s River

The oldest planned square that dates back to 1612 has my vote for one of the coolest spots within the 4th district. Make sure you grab some food or drink to enjoy while you sit and contemplate life.

As Parisian as Paris gets! We were wandering around our first day and this square/park was really beautiful. If I had more time I could have just spent a day hanging around people watching and maybe setting up a picnic in the square.

I rented an apartment not far from here for two months and this was one of my favourite places to walk around and visit. I love the Place des Vosges. You always see one if not two or three or four artists sketching and some might sell you their drawings or water colours. I knew that I had to purchase one as my stay here would not be complete without a 'Place des Vosges' original now beautifully framed and hanging in my French styled Salon!

Place des Vosges is where I drag my friends for a quintessential, communal Paris park experience. It is where I like to people-watch and gallery-hop. My favorite park is still Parc Monceau (in north Paris) but Place des Vosges is more central (so easier to show friends when touring 'round).

What an incredibly beautiful park! Place des Vosges is supposedly the oldest planned park in all of Paris. It's amazing to think this very modern looking square is over 400 years old. Great spot to sit and relax with a picnic or a friend (preferably both). The ornate apartments and stores that surround the park on all sides adds to the beauty of occasion. A friend of mine told me her plan was to one night during the summer, sneak in after closing time and sleep there over night. I'm tempted to go back to Paris just to see if I can join in.

I love Place des Vosges! It's such a fun, lively green space, and the perfect place to hang out and relax in good weather in the summer, spring, or fall. When I was there, the weather was great and the place was packed with young twenty and thirty-somethings lounging on the grass broken up into small groups - picnicking, playing the guitar, reading, chatting. I love the vibe there and like to go relax there whenever I'm in the Marais. One of the best free things to do in Paris!

Great place to sit, have a chat, enjoy a light lunch and soak up the sun with friends. I can't help but give it 5 stars even though a huge glob of what appeared to be some sort of tree sap fell on me and my bookbag, that's just how lovely it is.

In my opinion, la Place des Vosges is the loveliest square in Paris, filled with quaint galleries and cafes ... not to mention, unlike in the majority of other public parks, you will encounter more Parisians than tourists here. I especially enjoyed walking through the park and the neighborhood on Sundays, when the shops (one of the few places where the shops are opened on Sundays) and streets are filled with families.

My absolute favourite place in Paris. Here one can be able to be floated simply and observe. It is oldest that the Paris places and for me also the most beautiful one. A square place of 36 aristocracy palaces surrounds, from bright stone and red brick. Beautifully the Pavillion du Roi at the south side and the Pavillion de la Reine ones directly opposite. Here Victor Hugo lived. One feels in today still.
