Vancouver-Based 49th Parallel to Open Its First Coffee Shop in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"I learned that Plaza McGill was a 40-year-old, no-frills diner and an institution at the intersection of McGill and Notre-Dame; Sara Bilodeau, director of Cafés in Quebec, says she used to eat there almost every day while working across the street, and she framed 49th Parallel’s arrival as bringing the space a new life and vocation." - Valerie Silva

Google
Place Montréal Trust is a prominent shopping centre located at the intersection of Sainte-Catherine Street and McGill College Avenue in downtown Montreal. Opened in 1988, it encompasses over 320,000 square feet of retail space and attracts approximately 14 million visitors annually. The mall is renowned for its architectural features, including a five-story atrium that allows for ample natural light and houses North America's tallest indoor water fountain, reaching 30 meters in height. During the holiday season, this fountain is transformed into a giant illuminated Christmas tree, enhancing the festive atmosphere. Place Montréal Trust is seamlessly integrated into Montreal's extensive Underground City (RÉSO), providing sheltered access to nearby shopping centres like the Eaton Centre, as well as to the McGill and Peel metro stations. Adjacent to the mall is the Bell Media Tower, a 30-story skyscraper that was originally part of the complex and now serves as regional offices for Bell Media. The mall's development was influenced by public concern over preserving views of Mount Royal. Initial plans included a concert hall and an office tower that would have obstructed these views. Public opposition, notably from architectural activist Phyllis Lambert, led to a redesign featuring a wider setback and the transformation of McGill College Avenue into a scenic boulevard. Today, Place Montréal Trust continues to be a central destination for shopping, dining, and cultural experiences in Montreal's downtown core.

Google
The mall has a variety of shops such as Zara, Indigo, Winners, Ardene, Deserres, Laura, dollarama, and San Francisco. The selection of stores is quite decent, providing a fairly good shopping experience. The food court is quite small, with only 4 or 5 restaurants and a McDonald's. The overall cleanliness of the mall is acceptable, although the bathrooms could be maintained better as they are not frequently cleaned and often have an unpleasant odor.

Google
The mall has my 2 favorite stores in here: Zara and Indigo book store. Parking around here usually not easy to find. Metro access is great and the future REM will be super convenient to shop and walk inside at tunnel level because they linked with multiple shopping places and food court.

Google
It's a great shopping mall, with everything you may desire to get home. A friendly environment for both children and adults, even aged people would love it.

Google
Nice mall in downtown Montreal with a good mix of stores, restaurants, and cafés. Convenient location, clean interiors, and plenty of options for shopping and quick bites. Great spot to stroll around and shop

Google
Nice mall, not a lot of stores that I would shop in. Does have access to the underground malls and easy to get to the metro.

I shopped for books at Indigo and sipped coffee in their café. A favourite spot for its relaxed atmosphere and great finds.

Yelp
Place Montreal Trust is a large shopping mall in downtown Montreal, located west of the Eaton Centre, at the corner of Saint Catherine Street and McGill College Avenue. With over 320,000 square feet of stores and services, Place Montreal Trust attracts 14 million visitors each year. Its indoor water fountain has the highest water spout in North America at 30 metres in height. I have shopped in here many times since the variety of stores is really good. Something for everyone. Place Montreal Trust is linked to the Underground City of Montreal and the metro network as well. Inexpensive options here would be stores like Dollarama and McDonald's, making this shopping mall a value stop as compared to the Eaton center next door.

Yelp
My wife and I really enjoyed the Indigo bookstore here. Did not quite look inside the rest of it but it looks great from the reviews with lots of stores.

Yelp
Place Montreal Trust is one of the many malls downtown that are connected via RESO, the underground pathway. To the east it connects to the Centre Eaton, and to the west it connects to the Carrefour Industrielle Alliance. My favourite store in Place Montreal Trust is Winners, which is on the lowest level where the food court is. The mall used to have a Rinascimento which sold beautiful clothes made in Italy, but that closed down. Most of the stores now are chains like Zara, Laura, Reitman's, etc. They do have an independent store called De Cabana which sells Canadian brands like Joseph Ribkoff and Frank Lyman (of which I have mixed feelings, to me some pieces are cool and stylish, but some pieces are tacky and gaudy, and some are just downright matronly). They have a Dollarama too, so stores run from low-end to mid-end. The food court is mostly chains, but an independent vendor called Soleil de Saigon Express recently opened. It's a bit isolated from the other vendors as it's close to the escalators near the Dollarama and Ardene and across from the other food court vendors. That being said, while they have international chains like McDonald's and Subway, they have smaller chains that may be unfamiliar to some depending on where in Canada you're from (and if you're from outside of Canada, they will be completely unfamiliar), like Koryo and Tiki Ming. I mention this because I (not so secretly) love food courts and my favourite is trying independent vendors, but after that I also like trying smaller local chains that don't exist where I live. Place Montreal Trust is one of the places that I shop at when I'm doing my underground shopping excursions when I'm in Montreal.

Yelp
You serious for anything with the action what's going on with the mall Michael to make sure from the mall I wanted to know about much of the McGill mall Michael Peter Monte for the action to be stirring free about what's going on for the hours and all that to make sure the soft materials the action my nose for the ankle just to make sure for the hours and if you close earlier anyway should I be hanging in the walking at least this is something just to make sure about your stuff so that counts so forget about your place cuz it's closed

Yelp
Truly beautiful place. In times like these, indoor places are truly needed to stay warm and distract ourselves. I was so happy to see the beautiful fountain and the way they decorated the place.

Yelp
I work in a building connected to the underground city so will sometimes come to Place Montreal Trust to have my lunch at the food court. Place Montreal Trust is connected to the underground city and using the underground passage ways, it is in between Eaton Center and Les Cours Mont Royal. Excluding the cellphone carrier stands which I will sometimes go to in order to pick up something or try to get something added to my account, inside Place Montreal Trust, I will generally stop off at the Dollarama Dollar Store, the Indigo Store, La Source, and Winners. This Dollarama store gets very busy during lunch so I try to avoid it for the most part since there is another Dollarama Dollar Store connected to the underground city in Les Promenades Cathedrale where the lines are shorter and it seems to be run better. All the other stores don't really interest me for the most part. I will also go to Place Montreal Trust and have lunch at the food court there. I've eaten at the McDonald's, the Koryo BBQ Korean, Tiki-Ming, Subway, and Sukiyaki restaurants within Place Montreal Trust's food court. Place Montreal Trust has free WiFi and it appears to be limited to the food court itself since when I went to the Dollarama Dollar Store which is at the same level as the food court but off to the corner, the WiFi signal was lost. I find Place Montreal Trust to be a decent/good shopping mall and would rate them 4 stars.

Yelp
This mall has my 2 of my favourite stores, Zara and Indigo. The food court is quite small and the chairs are uncomfortable though. But since everything is linked, you can shop wherever you want and walk for a few minutes to somewhere more fun. This place is more of an in between mall than a stand alone mall. Centre Eaton and Peel are on either side of it.

Yelp
The main thing about this place is that its connected with Eaton centre through underground as well as the Metro. It gives you an endless experience of shopping and food courts. I kind of got lost in it as I wanted to get to Eaton. You will find different stores so check it out.

Yelp
A bit crammed between many malls in downtown Montreal - in fact a part of the underground city - but definitely worth exploring. You can access Cineplex, dine at various mini food court clusters and do creative shopping.

Yelp
I LOST MY WALLET!!!! I wasn't sure where I lost my wallet. I was just finishing a workout at Conner fitness when I went to Dollarama then I went to Winners, I went to Stitches after and I realized when I was going to Metro McGill that I lost my wallet and I started freaking out. I went back to those three stores and although they were helpful I could not find it. I finally went to the info desk upstairs near Koodo and they had my wallet and they knew my name because they saw my ID was in it. One of their security officers picked it up when it was dropped on the floor and brought it back to their desk what a great job these guys really know their stuff and it was a great experience after having feared that I had to cancel my credit cards and bank cards as well!

Yelp
As the other review mentioned, I mistook it as part of Centre Eaton. All these malls flow seamlessly into one another and have similar shops. But at Place Montreal Trust, there's an Omer DeSerres tucked away in a corner near the ATMs, and this store is actually much bigger than the exterior lets on. Don't just take it for a hobby store, there is a nice art supply section toward the back, and an impressive corner of yarns near checkout. There's also a Winners and a Dollarama down in the food court. In the Underground City, I liked this mall best.
