"From 1704 to 1709 and again from 1733 to 1736—in between his time as King of Poland —Stanisław Leszczyński lived in Nancy, France . In 1737, he became the Duke of Lorraine and subsequently established an academy of science, a military college, and Place Stanislas, the massive pedestrian square that comprises both Place Carrière and Place d’Alliance. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it’s considered one of the most beautiful royal squares in Europe. Come here to see City Hall, the Opéra National de Lorraine, the Museum of Fine Arts, and, of course, a bronze statue of Stanislas. There are also plenty of places nearby to grab a coffee or a bite to eat when you need a break from the sightseeing."
Really loved it. A mix of French and Polish baroque. The place and the surrounding garden was really friendly. We saw a dancefloor in the middle of the gardens, behind a really nice cafe. All the locals young and old swinging to the music.
Magical.

I visited Place Stanislas today and was completely charmed. The golden gates, elegant facades, and lively atmosphere made it feel like walking through a fairytale from the old times. It felt peaceful and inviting I took a break by the Neptune fountain, enjoying the breeze and the sound of water — such a calming moment in the middle of the city. This place isn’t just beautiful; it has soul. I’m truly grateful I got to experience it.

A truly impressive square with royal charm!
Place Stanislas in Nancy is an architectural gem – spacious, elegant, and full of history. The golden gates, fountains, and classical buildings create a grand and welcoming atmosphere.
Cafés, museums, and the town hall are located right on the square – a perfect place to soak in the charm of Nancy.
Some buildings around the square are currently under renovation, but this doesn’t take away from the overall experience.
A must-see when visiting Nancy!

One of the most beautiful squares in Europe — Place Stanislas in Nancy is a masterpiece of 18th-century French classical architecture with a touch of Rococo elegance.
Commissioned by Stanisław Leszczyński, the exiled King of Poland and Duke of Lorraine, it was completed in 1755 as a symbol of harmony and urban planning. The golden gates, grand façades, and perfectly symmetrical layout reflect the Age of Enlightenment’s ideals.
Whether by day or illuminated at night, the square radiates charm, history, and timeless grandeur. A true highlight of any visit to Lorraine.

Visited during daytime and the square looked amazing. I wish I had time to see the palace during night time.

Yelp
UNESCO world Heritage listed square in Nancy. It's the main square in town and surrounded with beautiful buildings dating back to the 1700's.
The square was a major project in urban planning, dreamt up by Stanisław I, as a way to link the medieval old town of Nancy and the new town built under Charles III in the 17th century. The square would also be a place royale to honour his son-in-law, Louis XV. The design linked two handsome buildings that already existed: the Hôtel de Ville (now centred on its grand square) and the Hôtel du Gouvernement. The seat of city government and the seat of Ducal government faced each other as complements through a series of rational, symmetrical but varied urban spaces, unequalled in Europe at the time.
We stayed in an apartment right on the square and it was magnificent to step out early in the morning and just admire the empty square. It's a gorgeous piece of architecture in France and one of the finest squares I have seen in a while.
Nancy is a wonderful old city with gorgeous buildings, markets, parks and restaurants. It's also a major university town and well worth a visit.

Yelp
I get it, it's pretty. I mean, it's really pretty. But I don't get all the hype. It's a pretty square, a nice place, surrounded by the art museum, city hall, and the opera. Overpriced cafés with bad service galore, The Amorino and their gelato is probably your best bet if you're looking to have something that doesn't leave a bad taste.
