"From 1704 to 1709 and again from 1733 to 1736—in between his time as King of Poland —Stanisław Leszczyński lived in Nancy, France . In 1737, he became the Duke of Lorraine and subsequently established an academy of science, a military college, and Place Stanislas, the massive pedestrian square that comprises both Place Carrière and Place d’Alliance. A UNESCO World Heritage site, it’s considered one of the most beautiful royal squares in Europe. Come here to see City Hall, the Opéra National de Lorraine, the Museum of Fine Arts, and, of course, a bronze statue of Stanislas. There are also plenty of places nearby to grab a coffee or a bite to eat when you need a break from the sightseeing."

Absolutely stunning main square of former Duke Stanislas. Its ornate, with gilded gates at each entrance. All the buildings are stunning and regal looking. Fountains in the corners. Cherubs. Its a great place to sit at a Cafe and watch life go by. Definitely cannot miss.

Place Stanislas is the one spot in Nancy that truly feels iconic. The square is spacious and pedestrian friendly, so you can slow down and take in the symmetry, the elegant façades, and the famous gilded gates and fountains. It is especially beautiful in late afternoon when the light makes the gold details glow and the whole place feels warmer. It also works beyond just photos. The cafés around the square are perfect for sitting down and people watching, and the atmosphere feels lively without being chaotic. If you can, come back after dark because the lighting changes the mood completely and makes the architecture feel even more dramatic.

Really loved it. A mix of French and Polish baroque. The place and the surrounding garden was really friendly. We saw a dancefloor in the middle of the gardens, behind a really nice cafe. All the locals young and old swinging to the music. Magical.

I visited Place Stanislas today and was completely charmed. The golden gates, elegant facades, and lively atmosphere made it feel like walking through a fairytale from the old times. It felt peaceful and inviting I took a break by the Neptune fountain, enjoying the breeze and the sound of water — such a calming moment in the middle of the city. This place isn’t just beautiful; it has soul. I’m truly grateful I got to experience it.

Impressive square with place to eat or drink, I loved the light show at 10 pm apparently it takes place every summer! Very nice

Very beautiful and well preserved plaza. The architecture is stunning and the finishes with gold add a nice touch to the look of the buildings.

Absolutely stunning square and a true gem of Nancy. Place Stanislas is beautifully designed, with elegant 18th-century buildings and golden gates that shine in the sunlight. The atmosphere is lively during the day with cafés and people enjoying the space, and at night the light show on the buildings is magical. A perfect place to stroll, relax, or take photos. Definitely a must-see if you’re visiting Nancy

It’s grandiose, well kept and clean. A walk around and sightseeing but not much to do there besides that. So just looking, worth a visit. Around it are restaurants and the shopping areas. One or two tourist shops, so don’t count on that. It really different then the rest of the city with the classic look. It is easily reachable by bike and foot and we walked from an area outside the city centre, within 30 mins.

Yelp
UNESCO world Heritage listed square in Nancy. It's the main square in town and surrounded with beautiful buildings dating back to the 1700's. The square was a major project in urban planning, dreamt up by Stanisław I, as a way to link the medieval old town of Nancy and the new town built under Charles III in the 17th century. The square would also be a place royale to honour his son-in-law, Louis XV. The design linked two handsome buildings that already existed: the Hôtel de Ville (now centred on its grand square) and the Hôtel du Gouvernement. The seat of city government and the seat of Ducal government faced each other as complements through a series of rational, symmetrical but varied urban spaces, unequalled in Europe at the time. We stayed in an apartment right on the square and it was magnificent to step out early in the morning and just admire the empty square. It's a gorgeous piece of architecture in France and one of the finest squares I have seen in a while. Nancy is a wonderful old city with gorgeous buildings, markets, parks and restaurants. It's also a major university town and well worth a visit.

Yelp
I get it, it's pretty. I mean, it's really pretty. But I don't get all the hype. It's a pretty square, a nice place, surrounded by the art museum, city hall, and the opera. Overpriced cafés with bad service galore, The Amorino and their gelato is probably your best bet if you're looking to have something that doesn't leave a bad taste.
