Never been here before. Our server (desirae) was great very attentive kept drinks full! Food was decent nothing spectacular. Sauerkraut balls and pork fries were our favorites. Great place with outside seating and awesome if you want to watch sports.

Google
nothing blowing me away but they do a good job. the Schnitzel should be trice as thick and half the circumference. the cornded beef should be made and chopped onsite, but it was good. the sauce with capers was very good as was the pretzel and the potato cakes

We had a small group gathering to watch a college football game - not Ohio State. There were plenty of TVs and since Ohio State wasn't playing it wasn't a big deal, and we'd cleared it with the managers when we made a reservation. It still took a bit because we had to find the channel - our server was a bit busy so we had to do it ourselves, but not a huge challenge. We ordered a mix of appetizers, beers, and main dishes. Everything came out well prepared, and our server came around often enough that we had refills and new drinks regularly. The covered patio was great, a good number of people, but not packed. Only issue was later in the evening someone decided she was allowed to smoke on the patio on the sidewalk which was obnoxious. Not sure if the staff knew, and that's why they closed one of the bay windows, or if they were just closing things up. She clearly knew she wasn't supposed to do it because she pretended to care but holding it over the fence except when she took a drag. We eventually closed the other bay window. There was still most of a quarter left, and it was annoying that we couldn't enjoy the nice evening air. I'm all, decent place, basic pub menu, good food watching games, but maybe some patrons that aren't the classiest people. It's a drive for us so we probably won't go back, but good for more local people.

We had our friend's memorial gathering here this week; the team was incredibly accommodating. They reserved the back room for us and had food ready upon arrival, they kept the beverages flowing so we could focus on healing our broken hearts. Highly recommend for large gatherings! Delicious pizza, cold brews, good vibes, and great staff. Thanks to Matthew and crew!!!

Google
The pizza… one of the best! And the burgers are also amazing. Definitely recommend. The ambiance is super nice, cozy, modern, all at once. I went there twice and this will be MY place for good meals and happy days! Recent note: owing photo from my all time favorite pizza, White, but adding the pork fries and the queso and tacos for starters, which were a delightful surprise when I came yesterday!

Google
They were understaffed and our huge wedding party arrived unannounced due to a communication error. As a business owner I understand that is very stressful. A situation like this creates a large margin for unhappy patrons. You cant facilitate a party of 100 on a walk in easily. They got it done. Wonderful critical thinking skills!Literally 3 staff members. I am super impressed. Kelly and the staff did wonderful. I would give them 10 stars if I could!! This is a great bar to go to if you visit Columbus Ohio!

Chris C.

Google
Really great Fish and Chips with seasoned fries. Loved the cole slaw! Pretzel Sticks were spot on! Willy burger was an excellent choice also for my wife. Our server Kelly was a very friendly host and very helpful on questions about the menu. I highly recommend this place! Patio is awesome with lots of TV'S!

Google
We had a large group, planned in advance. Seems there was only one server available, so some of our group were finished eating before the other of us even were served. Additionally, we sat at a two person table located at the North-West corner of the enclosed patio... There was a strong odor of MILDEW, so we had to turn toward our group to be able to half-way enjoy/and taste our food... Should be inspected, please.

Yelp
Bier Garten was a great place to gather with a group of people and watch a game on tv! Our servers were friendly and helpful for how long we stayed and were getting us food and refills. The kids with us found lots of things they could eat on the menu. The beer garden had heaters which was helpful in November!

Yelp
This looks like a dive bar from the street and also inside. But there's a reason it's called the Plank's Bier Garten, and not just Plank's. The beer garden is why you come here. It's a nice shady area to just hang out and enjoy the weather (and a beer or three).

Yelp
I hadn't been here for 30 years. We used to go when I lived in the area, and it was fun, and I liked the pizza. Was it the same so many years later? Are my memories off? I had a chance to go today, so I did. Easy parking in their lot on a Monday at 1. Only a few patrons inside, sit where you want, bar, table inside, patio or "breezeway" open room. It's finally a bit cooler, and it was cloudy with a light breeze, so I say in the outdoor room. Perfect. A bit of interest watching people on High, pleasant temps. Great service, start to finish. There when needed, gone when not. Brought the main precisely when I finished my app. Lots on the menu I wanted, but of course I had to check out the pizza. I don't usually get white pizza, but each ingredient was something I like, and the whole sounded good. And was good- different, thin but sturdy, crispy but tender. Loads of good cheese, black olives, tomatoes, banana peppers, etc. So so good. I got a small, and would have finished it all - except I also got an app, the sauerkraut balls. They were good, though not as good as Hey Hey's, for example. And the mustard sauce was pleasant but not particularly flavorful- I would have liked some kick. Still, good app, great pizza, great service, nice atmosphere, and decent prices. I'll be back.

Yelp
Matt is a great bartender. The servers are amazing though to be honest I can see their disdain for the crowds on busy nights but I also don't blame. I remain obsessed with their pizzas especially how the pepperoni gets crispy and delicious. Mmmmm

Yelp
I went here for a quick beer and bite while in town. It's a typical bar with quite a few options on tap. There is a fairly large bar with seating in a separate room and also.seatimg near the bar. I ordered a shrimp po boy and it was pretty good. It had a nice chipotle sauce on it and they had a pretty good amount of shrimp on it. The fries were really good. So good i ordered some to go for my little one for later. Service was fine. It was right at 12 so there werent many people at the bar, but a lot of families eating. I'd definitely come here again.
google avatar

Rebecca B.

Yelp
Pizza is always so good!! I've been a fan for years. Love the family too. Don't forget the mini tacos.
google avatar

John B.

Yelp
Not a traditional wood fire pizza but it was good. The service was excellent. Great views also.
google avatar

Rebecca M.

Yelp
I stopped in for a little football watching and pizza for lunch. The bar area was nice. Very clean with many tvs. They just have basic channels so what ever is on regular tv that is what's on. (No Sunday ticket) The gluten free pizza was good and enough for one. I got the Hawaiian, added mushroom and eliminated the cinnamon. The service was fine
google avatar

Manson L.

Yelp
It wasn't bad at all. Standard bar setting that appeared to be fairly well maintained. I had the Rueben sandwich that was really good. If I'm ever back in town in that area I would go back.
google avatar

Alexis C.

Yelp
We popped in on a Sunday to grab a bite and a few drinks. We sat at the bar and the service was pretty standard. The place was fairly busy with people there watching the Eagles v. Commanders game which added a nice energy. However, our dishes were especially great. I would definitely recommend the Chicken Santa Fe and the Philly Cheesesteak!!

Abby S.

Yelp
Love planks! Pro tip add extra cheese to take pizza to next level! Admittedly they often get orders wrong, so make sure you double check if it's a to go order. But we tolerate the occasional messed up order because the food and vibe is so good.
google avatar

Erica M.

Yelp
Enjoyed a nice Sunday afternoon on the covered patio area with good weather. The Buffalo chicken dip was a little spicy but not too hot. The texture of some of the chicken bits, however, were a bit large and questionable. I picked around it. Chips were on the thicker side, plain, and crunchy. Could have used a few more chip for a more even ratio. Service was good. Not much more to say.
google avatar

Adam G.

Yelp
Stopped by Plank's to watch a game, and found seating at the bar. The service was good and the drinks were cheap. We tried the pizza and it was lowkey delicious. Great crunch to the crust. Didn't experience the bier garten this time, but would definitely come back over the summer to try it out!

Sujal M.

Yelp
Came here for Trivia last night with my friend and girlfriend. I was told the pizza was worth trying, and it didn't disappoint. Perfect tavern-style pizza. Was around $11. Had a Hefeweizen beer as well. Trivia format was interesting (you wager points based on the question and confidence in your answer). Ambiance is typical of any beer place, I think. We were sitting at the bar and not outside. Would recommend coming here for the pizza.

Yelp
Plank's Bier Garten is a solid neighborhood staple on High Street. The service is usually very good. On a nice day, when they open up the windows, it's a great place to post up and look outside. The sauerkraut balls are a must order. I don't know how anyone couldn't like them. They're friend deliciousness. The pizza is pretty good. Sandwiches are bomb. They usually have a solid selection of beers on tap. I've never had a bad time there.

Jum S.

Yelp
Awesome place. Food, atmosphere, staff. The best fries - crispy and tasty. Nice beer selection too.
google avatar

Yelp
Plank's is a fun, small restaurant and bar in German Village. The beer selection is pretty decent with both a good amount of drafts along with cans and bottles for more selection. The food was solid and the bartenders were very friendly. I started with a Boat Show IPA from Yellow Springs brewing and it's always a favorite of mine. I started dinner with a small Caprese salad (pictured). It was a little different from others I've had but very tasty. For my main course I had the small veggie pizza (also pictured) and it was pretty decent. The thin crust was crispy and delicious with lots of fresh toppings. The sauce was a little bland but overall it was pretty good. Overall Plank's is a pretty great place that I'd definitely recommend. And I'd love to go back when it's warm and take advantage of the beautiful patio.
google avatar

Stacey T.

Yelp
Not ADA compliant. Im in a wheelchair and had to sit outside in the heat because there is no wheelchair access into the bar.

Theresa S.

Yelp
Plank's is always a great experience. It's a great spot to catch a game, or get in on a Trivia night. Food is solid. Great place to bring a larger group.

Stephen S.

Yelp
The food was awful and the noise level so loud by patrons at the bar that it was impossible to hear our conversation when visiting with our guests. I would highly not recommend this place
google avatar

Jaclyn C.

Yelp
One of the best restaurants/bars in German village. Service is great, atmosphere is great and food is delicious. Nice game day watching spot. Highly recommend the pizza. Parking lot in the back which makes it even more convenient.
google avatar

Mark G.

Yelp
Our group had a great experience! Great food, great vibes, and very friendly service. The chicken pesto pizza, Cuban, and Reuben were all amazing! Great food spot in German village.

Yelp
This place was such a stellar find by my compatriot. We staggered in with a party of 8, and were immediately seated. Ordered a spattering of their apps and mains, sandwiches, pizzas, salads, the whole lot was amazing and everyone was happy with our experience. This quaint little traditional bier hall type joint is tucked away in a quiet part of Columbus's German village, what a great experience with some great friends. Would love to come back if I find myself in Columbus again.

Yelp
Ordered pizza from Planks last night and was happy but not overwhelmed. Planks Bier garten's pizza is consistently good and never outstanding. This is not a criticism but more about letting you know that you will get a good pizza for the money especially when you want a fresh cheese pizza. The sauce is very flavorful, plenty of cheese and cooked very well. It is just that there is nothing memorable about the experience. Yes I would continue to order from Planks and yes I think they provide a good pizza for the money. Also had it delivered which was a plus in my book.

Yelp
Monday is half price pizza Good selection of pizzas. Pizzas are not that bad either. We had the buffalo cauliflower. Good. And make your own veggie pizza. Pretty good too. Come here for happy hour and that's the perfect cure for Monday blues! Staff is Friendy. Place is clean and they have a huge patio
google avatar

Kelsie K.

Yelp
This was my first trip back to Plank's since it reopened and my first time ordering pizza. It's not my favorite pizza in Columbus, I tend to favor thicker crusts, but I will say they fit absolutely as many toppings as they can on a pizza. We got a Meatza and The Works to share. The large is good for two people and the small is pretty much a personal size. We sat on the front patio which is dog friendly. They do have an awesome bier garten in the back though as well as indoor seating. Their parking lot is right behind the building, but it's pretty small. They is plenty of street parking around though.
google avatar

Donta M.

Yelp
Small place friendly staff Good selection of beers Lots of TV's Close to breweries in the area
google avatar

Yelp
Not bad! I wanted to go to Schmidt's but they were closed due to Covid. This place is very cozy. Very long bar. 10 on tap as well as a bottle selection. Large menu. They do have German fare as well as hamburgers etc. I had the bratwurst. It was decent. I also had the sauerkraut balls and German potato salad. All decent but not mind blowing and the helpings were good. I would recommend this place. I was disappointed Schmidt's wasn't open but this was a nice alternative.

Yelp
My husband and I came here and we were so happy for a fun (rare) week day night out. Out wait staff was so rude. My husband asked for mustard and the wait staff yelled back at him. I didn't even ask for the ranch I had ordered. The wait staff then locked the doors loudly instead of taking the debit card we had provided. I said after 10 minutes, they must be ready for us to leave. The wait staff said to me "darling, I'm here another hour at the bar so I don't care." The people behind us said said better eat up. We said please and thank you and still tipped after that. I would like to to be treated the same. Will not be going back.
google avatar

Theresa G.

Yelp
I wish I loved this place. I've tried and tried again and every time it's mediocre at best. Last night we stopped in for a beer and munchies and we were really disappointed. My buffalo cauliflower was freezing cold in the middle. Also - pet peeve- they charged us $3 for a soda water from the bar. Service is always average if we're lucky. There are better places to spend your money and time.
google avatar

Austin S.

Yelp
Good environment on a sports less Monday. Dogs are allowed on front patio only. Not busy.
google avatar

Harris W.

Yelp
Great local place. The food is good pub food, the beer is cold and there are a lot of TVs. What else could you want?
google avatar

Jeff L.

Yelp
If you are walking around in German Village, this is a nice place to stop and get a drink during an afternoon on a weekend. They have a decent patio area with a picnic tables setup) which is enclosed and surrounded by small apartment buildings. They have a decent selection of beer, and nice snacks to nosh on (e.g. pretzels, fried German specialties). I had a Columbus Brewing Company and was able to kick back and enjoy with my group. I recommend Plank's as part of one's outdoor patio rotation!
google avatar

Carl D.

Yelp
Disappointing. For a place with a German name in a German area of town, there wasn't much Teutonic about it. Good beer selection and decent prices at happy hour, but the happy hour apps were tragic. Only a couple of things like deep-fried sauerkraut balls (huh?) came anywhere close to German. Quesadillas and nachos were on the menu, along with some mini-tacos I ordered (largely because the other item seems overpriced). Then there's the vibe of the place. At least in the bar, it seemed like a place where locals go to nurse a cheap drink, gossip and bitch at each other while the bartender talks on his/her phone. Paid my tab and left without any illusion that I'll be returning.
google avatar

Merle L.

Yelp
Plank's on High has reopened after a fire. Totally renovated and very nice. The dining room is small so it can get crowded. They have daily specials and a happy hour. If you don't eat meat they now have a plant based Beyond Burger. We had just left the Fitness Loft where we signed up for exercise classes so I was really hungry. I had the ten inch pizza and small salad for $11. Plain cheese but excellent flavor and crispy crust. A good choice. The salad was the perfect size to go with the pizza and it had arugula! I love arugula. Our waitress couldn't have been nicer and very efficient. This will be a regular lunch spot for us. It is a little farther than the other Plank's (on Parsons) but different food.

Sherilyn L.

Yelp
A quick dinner before going to see Hamilton. I ordered the Reuben and my husband had the steak sandwich. Neither disappointed us. The service was quick and we wanted for nothing as they were very attentive without hovering.
google avatar

Alex P.

Yelp
Lunch took 45 minutes to get just the food served how about a heads up for people who only have an 1 hour for lunch
google avatar

Jeni F.

Yelp
Let's talk about how bad this place is... 1. Food quality. Unless it's made fresh to order do not order it. I got a salad and the lettuce was old and about to turn. The chicken was way undercooked and the brussels salad they market is not that. It's a completely different salad mix and they made up some excuse about how it's prepared. 2. Oh my god the service. I felt like I was inconveniencing the bartender by asking for things and he never came to ask how anything was or if we needed anything. Like... if you're in a bad mood, leave it at home. I didn't ruin your day and I didn't do anything to you to treat me like trash. Hopefully they close and/or get their shit together to make customers feel like they matter. We spent $45 here on lunch... won't do it again.

Renea S.

Yelp
Pros: indoor/outdoor seating, craft beer, polite staff. Cons: very loud, understaffed. Despite being shorthanded, the servers kept our drinks full and maintained patient, professional attitudes. Honestly, the food was good enough that it was worth the wait (maybe because the beer was also good lol). Did not like how loud it was, but I'm not sure that could be helped. They played awful country music until the sun went down and they switched to rock.
google avatar

Kristin H.

Yelp
This bar has been a staple of mine since moving to Columbus 10+ years ago. The food is tasty, the beer is cold with a great rotating draft list, and the bartenders are witty, kind, and sarcastic, just how they should be. Love it here.
google avatar

Derek D.

Yelp
Finally made it in here after some time living in Cbus. I've driven by it seemingly 1,000 times. They have a great sized parking lot in the back for the area and there is on-street parking near by. The beer garden atmosphere with long communal tables is pretty cool and the pizza is solid. I got the buffalo chicken ranch pizza and it was good.. but wow - Caution: HOT!

Irelynn C.

Yelp
Really wanted to try this place out but they were closing an hour earlier than advertised. Would be nice if they actually went by the hours posted.
google avatar

Cris H.

Yelp
Great spot to get lunch or dinner. Service is fast and a nice selection of beer. Pizza and Sandwiches are always consistently made and taste good as well.
google avatar

Joe J.

Yelp
Cajun burger has the spice...but their fries are INCREDIBLE! Great beer selection and tons of TV's. Patio is great for people watching. Have to enter thru the back even though there are 5 doors off the street you think you can enter into.
google avatar

Sarah O.

Yelp
I love visiting Planks! The pizza is always delicious but recently I have been exploring some of the rest of the menu. The buffalo chicken dip came out still sizzling and my chicken fingers were hand breaded right before. Yum!!

Jordan A.

Yelp
Solid menu, really great for the spot. Don't get it confused with Plank's on parsons who has better pizza but a worse ambiance and bar selection.
google avatar

Brian F.

Yelp
Super disappointed in the service here. The food was good, and the atmosphere was excellent on a perfect 72 degree night. The service was awful. The waitress forgot to put in our order for pizza, and she didn't realize it until the rest of our group already had their food. She promised we'd get a discount, but that never materialized. It also took about 30 minutes to get our checks after we'd asked for them. This place has a lot of potential, and you may have better luck on a different night. But I won't be going back here without some assurances from management that things will be better.
google avatar

Walter C.

Yelp
A bus driver recommended this place. I'm not sure if he was recommending this or the one on Parson's but this one was great. I don't drink so I can't comment on the beer. I had wienerschnitzel, cole slaw and onion rings. Awesome! The service was great! I'm from the South so we had a good laugh when the waitress asked if I wanted a pop to go. She caught me off guard with that! She was very pleasant and really on top of things. My food came out quickly and was very, very good. If I get back here, I'll go to Plank's again.
google avatar

Morgan D.

Yelp
I couldn't get over the fact that the inside of Plank's smells like a urinal cake - totally unappetizing. I went to Plank's for a family reunion of sorts. It was nice of them to let us rent out their large, front room. It is wood paneled with two tiers of seating at both benches and tables. The walls are lined with sports paraphernalia, including an entire back wall filled with college flags. I think our waitresses were uber nervous about having to serve 100 people at once. When we arrived (a little earlier than the rest of our clan) they were frantic about getting our drink orders, asking us what we wanted while we were standing, mingling, and saying hello - even repeatedly asking us what we wanted though we had told them we were going to wait to get drinks until we were seated. Eventually, they pressured us into ordering our beers - before we found our seats. From that point, they did a decent job of getting orders. All 100 of us got pizza to make things easier. My beer was warm by the time we got our pies. I had high hopes about the pizza because I heard it was delicious. But my pizza wasn't very memorable. I think it was just cheese. I didn't eat much because I kept thinking about tiny pink cakes covered in piddle. When I did make my way back to the bathroom, I was surprised to find that it was the least bathroom-y smelling part of the whole restaurant. Weird. Maybe there's a vent that runs straight from the men's room into the dining area? I don't know how to explain it.
