A New Vegan Drive Thru Fast Food Restaurant Debuts in Long Beach | Eater LA

"Opened a year after the debut location, this second store reinforced the chain's car-centric approach with a dedicated drive-thru. It serves the same animal-free lineup—breakfast sandwiches, burgers, and shakes—positioning the format as a quick, vehicle-friendly alternative to traditional fast food." - Mona Holmes

Google
What a surprise coming from the east coast to find a VEGAN FAST FOOD RESTAURANT! See the menu board photo. I wanted to try everything, but companion had a crispy “chicken” wrap that was fresh and delicious, and I have the holy guacamole burger, with a beefy patty. The other option is a hippie patty, which I have never had, but I imagine is made of beans or greens. The beefy patty tasted like an impossible burger. The burger had lettuce, guacamole, cheese (vegan) and chipotle sauce. They did not have any diet soda, which I should have expected, the beverages are all organic I gather. They were nice enough to provide ice water. Would definitely come again and I remain amazed that a place like this exists. Maybe there is hope!

Google
overall the food is actually quite good and hard to tell some items are vegan. typically the quality is pretty good as well and i have not had many issues with my orders in all the times i have been. wait time can be a bit long (up to 20 mins), but understandable since the food is usually hot and fresh. the worst part about the place is the price. unfortunately the food is also very expensive. expect to spend about $20 per person for a meal at least.

Google
We stumbled upon Plant Power and had to try some of the Vegan offerings. The Oreo Cookie 'snow day' was really good and the fries and onion rings were great snack items. Can't wait to grab a vegan burger next time.

Google

It's Great to order online and pick up on way to work. Naseem who works there is Always polite. Service with a smile. Thank you so much.

Google
I love this place and the smores snow day was a 12/10!! The Buffalo chicken is ALWAYS great The Nashville hot was great with their Chipotle and ranch sauce. The Big Zac is better than the inspiration js The California burrito is so fresh!! Will be back again and again Highly recommend the blueberry soda

Google
love the food, service was horrible today. whoever the guy with long hair is needs to be retrained. he got my order wrong and then told me to pull into the lot to wait and he will bring out my food. he never brought it out and after 15 minutes i went inside to get it. i get there’s a line but as someone who comes here often, i was unsatisfied with the service today. i ordered a big zac and a side of onion rings, he added onions rings to my big zac, not sure if there was an up charge for that but if there was, then i paid too much for all of my food and that’s not okay. service is usually fine but this employee is wasn’t up to standard. just got home and didn’t even get my ranch for my onion rings. go figure!

Google
It's nice to have Vegan food and not worry about animal products all the time. Burgers were tasty and it's close to the 5. There is a drive thru or some cute outdoor seating. Staff was very nice. Enjoyed yum.

Google
Most excellent plant-based vegan fast food joint! Lots of selections! We had their "Chicken" Caesar Wrap and Southwest Avocado Wrap. Absolutely Loved the Caesar Wrap although the Avocado wrap was also good. Took home two Peanut butter pies. So rich! This chain is the real whole food plant based deal. At the Encinitas location they have walk up service as well as a convenient drive through. There is also a delightful seating area out front. They do have highchairs for the kiddos, too. I thought their prices were very reasonable. We will be visiting many of the other locations in SoCal and highly recommend them to you.

Yelp
I'm not a huge vegan fan boy. I'm a dad. I grill a lot. I have kids. They like hot dogs, hamburgers, ribs, tri-tip, brisket - so do I. But every now and then, you need a break. Plant power nearly matches the quality of any fast food joint or frozen food in your fridge quality. It's legit. Its like In-and-Out + Mcdonalds combined. Their fries here are ridiculous, so is their secret sauce. Their sauce is like a richer more dense version of In-and-Outs, less runny, more flavor. Their burgers here are a kinda sorta. The cheese is not dairy based and you can taste that it's artificial. The burgers are an 8/10. I like impossible burgers quite a bit. These are similar but there's a slight disconnection. The nuggets taste same same. 5 stars tbh. 8/10 food quality, service is lightening quick. Prices may soar a bit but who cares? You pay for health and you get it here. Nice service too. Recommmend.

Yelp
I liked it. I am a big big meat eater, my friend had been vegetarian for since he was little. I normally am on the pickier side. I don't like mustard, onions or pickles. My burger came with them and since I normally don't eat at a place like this. I didn't ask for them off. AMAZING move. I normally don't like when those topping over power my burger. This place prepares it jut right. Fire burger def gonna eat vegan more often. My friend said it's not his fav vegan burger but he did think they were good. So that's the opinion of an eat eater and a long time vegan. Our cashier was Marisol J and she did a great job helping us. I had poor eyesight but she was great helping me navigate there options. Def coming again and recommending to a friend.

Yelp
PUMPKIN PIE plant-based Vegan milk shake! I normally don't drink milk shakes anymore mainly b/c of their high calorie content. But It's October, plenty surprised by a a seasonal special and had to try. Wow was it great! Flavor packed not too sweet, cool cold but not so cold it hurts your teeth. So good, I will have to go back for another before the month is over. It paired Perfectly with the waffle chicken sandwich, which was a tad bit spicy , so the shake was great to cool down my palate and balance out my quick meal on the run. Fast & friendly, although I'm not a "fast food" fan this place is nice for a healthy convenient Vegan/vegetarian plant-based meal. Drive through is a bonus but walk in is available. Seating is only outdoors although I wish indoor dining was an option.

Yelp
Love this place. The entire menu is vegan and everything is delicious. We love the iconic fries. If you love the In-N-out animal fries you will love these. Definitely support this business and its cause.

Yelp
I tried the Holy Guacamole burger, and it was just okay. The prices are reasonable, but I was expecting a bit more in terms of flavor--maybe it just wasn't the best choice for me. I'd like to try another burger next time to see if there are better-tasting options. Had a very nice outdoor seating options though!

Yelp
My boyfriend is 100% vegan, we are visiting from out of state and made a point to stop here. Very impressive menu selection! Everything we had was delicious. My one and only complaint is they didn't have diet soda, but we loved our experience! Wish we had our own location back home!

Yelp
Sadly underwhelmed :( I was really looking forward to eating here but doubt that I'll be back. Ordered a superfood salad and it was basically just sloppily thrown together (fast food style) spinach and not much more. There was essentialy no quinoa on it and a few pieces of dried out beets that I was hoping would be fresh but don't think they are- they look freeze dried! :( I don't like leaving negative reviews but it's an honest one Definite emphasis on the fast food part, no so much your typical thought out and carefully prepared vegan or vegetarian place.
google avatar

Yelp
Plant Power has a great selection of vegan food options. It's always a win for my child who happens to be a picky eater. My wife and I love the food too. The staff was friendly and the service was quick.

Yelp
Our first visit here - My husband and I grabbed lunch here after a walk. We were looking for someplace where we could do takeout and have something healthy. I ordered a Holy Guacamole burger with the hippie patty, no cheese (made from coconut which raises cholesterol), and with it wrapped in lettuce. My husband ordered the cheese burger w/o cheese & no onions. (They charge for grilled onions.) When we received our order, mine was correct but they added cheese to my husband's so we had to have There is no seating inside but plenty seating outside. There's a drive thru and a decent amount of parking. It was cold out so we opted for sitting in our car. Our second visit, I got the Holy Guacamole burger again with the hippie patty but got the cheese and bread this time. My husband got the Western burger w/o the bacon. My husband thought the cheese added flavor to the burger but it was lacking in sauce and it was not evenly spread out. I didn't think the cheese added anything to my burger and I must say I prefer it w/o the bread since I felt the bread took some of the flavor away or there wasn't much of the guac to make up for it. The sweet potato fries were a bit over cooked but the ketchup helped a bit. Overall, the burgers are decent and a better option than some other options out there. The photos are from the second visit. Overall, not a bad place to get burgers for a plant based place.

Yelp
How do I even start this review? What an amazing establishment I was helped so kindly by KHALED All the Hispanic people in there were so sweet to me and and I was able to practice some of my Spanish Estoy Embarazada I'm pregnant and so hungry all the time these people here who work here are so unbelievably kind and showed me the kind of hospitality that I'm not really really used to. I appreciate every single worker here and I can't wait to come back. I highly highly highly highly highly recommend Plant Power Fast Food on 411 Santa Fe Dr.

Yelp
WE NEED MORE OF THESE!!!! OMG - I'm lactose intolerant and have not had a decent nondairy milkshake in YEARS until I experienced Plant Power HEAVEN best fries you'll eat ANYWHERE- not to mention absolutely delicious hippy burgers. Employees were over-the-top helpful and friendly to this first time visitor. Calm, relaxed patio atmosphere- lovely. I cannot wait to go back!!!

Kari L.

Yelp
Chicken Caesar wrap was fresh, crisp, and exactly what I was craving. Quick service on a Monday at lunch and friendly staff. So great to have a vegan option around
google avatar

Jassmyn L.

Yelp
Everyone who works here is amazing! Love the big Zac, carne asada fries, and honestly everything here. I'm gluten free and they have so many great options for me. Always craving this place after a long day. The milkshakes slap so hard. This location is really cute too if you want to sit and eat.

Yelp
10/10. Food comes out quick. Southwest Wrap or Buffalo Wrap is always a hit. Service is wonderful. The outdoor patito is gorgeous.

Yelp
I have been seeing Carla since the end of last summer and have absolutely fell in love with her work. Since her move to Hawaii I have begun the qalm distance sessions and I am thrilled I get to continue this work. Moving from in person to online can sometimes be difficult, but honestly I feel I didn't skip a beat with this transition. So grateful to be able to continue doing this amazing work with Carla.

Yelp
I love the fact that there are vegetarian places to go! Drive through was quick, food was delicious but it seemed expensive... I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich, got a small fry and it was $18. If you want a healthier drive through option you gotta try it.
google avatar

Sharon W.

Yelp
Not in the nicest part of Encinitas, but the food is decent especially given 1) it's fast food 2) it's plant-based 3) it's reasonably priced. I really enjoyed the iconic fries, which is basically a vegan version of in-n-out's loaded fries! Parking is easy and there's ample outdoor seating.
google avatar

Charlie T.

Yelp
Overpriced, highly processed, small portions, cooked in seed oils. They could do much much better but they don't. Nice idea but this food is toxic and not even that tasty for how bad it is for your health. You only eat here for convenience, but how convenient is inflammation and wasting your money on trash food that doesn't even taste that good or fill you up? It's a step away from McDonalds.
google avatar

Charan A.

Yelp
This place is Excellent! The food is amazing. It tastes incredible!. You wouldn't even know that it's completely Vegan and healthy. Great place to bring family. There's outside seating. Lots of people who eat meat eat there as well. That's because it's so yummy.
google avatar

Mike T.

Yelp
Always fresh food, very tasty i had the western burger and the sweet potato fries and also we had the buffalo chicken sandwich and iconic fries.

Kimber V.

Yelp
Delicious replicas of the fast food I used to enjoy previously to truly thinking about the perspective of the required victims. No victims are required for this place!

Yelp
No longer good! It hurts me to write this review, but the truth is that this is no longer the 5 star place that it was. Our family has been coming here for a while and it had received a five star from me. The past three visits have been poor quality. At $80 for a burgers fries and a shake for three people it has to be good quality. This is no longer the case, it's still $80 but the quality is really bad. Our visit last night will sadly be our last. We arrived and were the only car in sight. We ordered a big Zac, plain cheese burger, chicken sandwich, two fries, one onion ring and three shakes (two peanut butter and one strawberry). The total was $80. When we got home the two peanut butter shakes were not mixed properly, as the was a scoop of peanut butter at the very bottom. My box of onion rings had five small rings inside. The big Zac was soggy and looked like it was just thrown together. The other two sandwhiches were good. Plant Power if you are charging restaurant prices for fast food, yes you do have healthy ingredients and that's why we lived coming here, but at these prices you have to have quality or people won't find the price vs quality worth it. Please let us know when you have addressed the issues and maybe we will give it another try, until then we won't be back and by the look of the parking lot, I'm not the only one noticing the decline in quality.

Kailani G.

Yelp
One of my favs!! Great food, never a long wait and very friendly staff! (also serves the best fries around )
google avatar

Eric G.

Yelp
The food and the service are amazing. It' s a bit pricey but well worth it. The big problem are the pidgeons. I went there for lunch with my son and spent more time chasing the pidgeons away than eating. The whole pick up area was full of pidgeons floor and counter.
google avatar

Elora A.

Yelp
It's all about the Big Zac Making vegan fast food dreams a reality. Love the raw tacos as well!

Yelp
Tasty chicken and waffle sandwich. Will definitely return. Mellow atmosphere. Nice outdoor seating.

Yelp
Had been wanting to try plant power fast food for at least a year now. I decided on the chik'n wrap with fries. Very impressed at this being a vegan dish without soy. I checked ingredients before I decided. I would definitely go again
google avatar

Jailen T.

Yelp
Vegan, yes. Healthier? Meh. If you're going for a meatless meal that tastes "normal" then go for it. I love having vegan alternatives but sometimes the calorie count, sodium and others aren't that friendly. It's a little pricey for "fast food" but their aren't many vegan places that taste as good as this. I got the crispy chicken sandwich and the chicken was a pretty big filet. The bun was a bit dry and tasteless. Their fries aren't the best a little on the oily side and not crunchy, maybe I'll ask for well done next time? I've heard their breakfast burritos are the best on the menu so I'm definitely coming back for that!
google avatar

Craig L.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised after eating here. This was a new experience for me, and I must say I left feeling really pleased. The staff was extremely friendly, the food was really good, and the atmosphere was really cool. I definitely recommend people to go check this place out.
google avatar

Gelin Cara T.

Yelp
Disclaimer - this review is by a non-vegan, very much pro-meat person. This place caught my eye because it was a plant-based fast food chain with a drive-thru. Pretty cool. And the reviews are good. I looked at the menu and I have an open-mind palate. Menu is impressive right off the bad. All my fast food favorites right there. I had the "chickn" nuggets and cheeseburger. Cheeseburger was alright and a bit messy to eat. BUT THE NUGGETS! Wow. Pleasantly surprised and to tell you the truth, it is damn close to the real stuff. It was really, REALLLYYYY good! The ranch tastes different, but it's tolerable. I seriously wouldn't mind getting this again. Plus, I didn't feel like utter guilty crap after. I will say thought that because it's all plant-based, prices are a bit higher than your normal fast food (expected). But worth it, IMO. Try this place out and you'll be surprised as I was.

Michael D.

Yelp
I got the breakfast burrito and honesty I was expecting worse than what I got the burrito was pretty big and was especially tasty. Pretty god for being vegan. The place looks kinda wild but the service was amazing. I'm definitely coming again.
google avatar

Ryan G.

Yelp
Been here a few times. It's essentially a meat free fast food place. So far, I have tried their rambler burger, iconic fries, waffle chicken sandwich, and cookie butter coffee shake. Rambler was pretty terrible mainly from the patty's flavor and texture. Iconic fries are basically a step up of in n out animal style fries. Pretty solid if you like this. The waffle chicken sandwich was pretty good. Texture was fairly close to chicken and the flavor was good. I'd order this again but I believe it's considered a breakfast item. The shake though was my favorite. I'd honestly come here just for this.

Kurt B.

Yelp
I love the food here. However, I have to comment that the outdoor seating is closed. It was completely closed when I just tried to stop driving to San Diego. That means my option was to either eat messy food in my small car or stand in the parking lot and eat it. So I left, sad I couldn't enjoy one of my favorite places. If you aren't local and are going to stop, I'd recommend calling to see if the patio is reopened. Or you'll be standing in the parking lot eating.
google avatar

Stephanie B.

Yelp
We tried this place last night. I have to say it wasn't bad at all. Reading online this place is online ordering only and I do like that they were fast with no cross contamination of foods. I ordered a plant based burger that mimics a McDonalds Big Mac and it was tasty. I did get a gluten free bun. The cheez was fine and so was the plant based meat. I will order again and try something new from their menu.
google avatar

Dani S.

Yelp
Prices are very reasonable and the drive through is convenient. The food tasted over processed. Came here one day to do drive thru and get some food. The whole place looked pretty clean. The process was pretty easy. Rolled up to the menu and ordered. Got the food, but everything tasted over processed, I guess I'm a carnivore so this plant based "meat" just tasted weird to me. Got a vegan milkshake made from oat milk and it tasted powdery and way too sweet. I can see why the vegans like this place but, I'd rather eat things I can understand in its original form.

Ronnie S.

Yelp
I wanted to have a large gathering for my birthday party and I chose Plant Power in Encinitas. The staff made a beautiful party for me with roses and table runners. They really went out of their way to make my party a beautiful venue and a real success. My guests had choices of entrées and everyone enjoyed their dinners. We seated 40 people very comfortably. I highly recommend Plant Power Fast Food for any event. We will be back soon.

Holly H.

Yelp
The concept of the food is fantastic. In spite of looking like stale buns were used in the burgers, the taste was spot in for what they were trying to emulate. The counter to order is small and cramped. There is an outdoor patio to dine, which was nice, but we had to pass a random swarm of bugs that looked like the keys from a harry potter movie near the trash cans. The layout is just, odd. The milkshake: 5/5 stars the star of the show, it was made with thin mints... I'm not sure if this was seasonal, but it was reminiscent of thriftys mint chip ice cream. So good! Iconic burger: 4/5 stars an in n out copycat, very tasty! Iconic fries: 2/5 stars like animal style fries, everything was spot on. But the fries... Ugh, half of them were were floppy and oily. It was unfortunate. Western burger: 2/5 stars for looks, 3/5 with my eyes closed completely unappetizing from the looks of it. The fake-on (aka bacon) looked like a dog treat. Grrr! So I closed my eyes and took a bite: holy hell! This reminds me of a western bacon cheeseburger from carls jr! Whaaaa?! So I kept eating because it was far tastier than how it looked. We took the peanut butter pie to go. It was nice, but nothing to go out of your way for. 3/5 stars

Clara C.

Yelp
Food is good but pricey. This location has always had really slow service since it opened years ago, but it's just gotten slower. I ordered ahead by about 20 minutes, arrived and there were zero people in the drive through, and waited by the window in the drive through for over 20 minutes waiting for someone to bring out my food. Not worth it unless you've got time to kill waiting for food

L L.

Yelp
ok, so I'm a vegetarian and it's been bout 20 years. I am always excited to try a new place for us long time weirdos of not eating animals and non dairy optionsI Stopped in the Encinitas , ca location and it was pretty awesome! I had the "classic "cheeseburger and fries combo. Loved the fries and the side of Ranch was zesty and creamy. I'm gonna try the spicy "chicken" sandwich next time I go. The polite lady and the counter with excellent service said it's her favorite. And yes, this is a vegan eatery, and it's really cool to have such an option that's delicious. 3 locations in San Diego. Thank you plant power! We appreciate your deliciousness
google avatar

Cecilia D.

Yelp
Great for breakfast, lunch, dinner or even dessert! For breakfast, I love their sausage egg cheeze breakfast sandwiches, either on a croissant or English muffin. Their iced coffee is also delicious, I add the caramel flavoring, sweet and tasty. I like their Caesar salad or burgers for later in the day. I also will go out of my on a regular basis for their milk shakes. I combine the chocolate and cookies and cream. A little pricey, esp as and second flavor adds a dollar, so good though.

Yelp
I look forward to eating at Plant Power Fast Food every year when we visit California. I wish there was something like this in Arizona! The restaurant is super cute and they have a huge menu. My favorite is the peanut butter, milkshake and chicken and waffle sandwich. The honey mustard sauce is also very good. My kids loved the chicken tenders and the snow days ice cream is fantastic!Unfortunately, they got rid of my favorite sauce, Ranchaque, but there are so many other things to order. Plant, power fast food, please open a location in Arizona. Eating here once a year, it's just not enough! I highly recommend!
google avatar

Becky L.

Yelp
Drive thru VEGAN FAST food!!! need I say more? I take all of my meat-eating friends here and they are all shocked that it's so good! The best thing on the menu is the Buffalo 66.. its spicy, fresh, crunchy and so filling. I tried the Big Zac burger (without the middle bun) and I really enjoyed it! We also got the cheesecake which was pretty soft instead of the traditional firm style you would find elsewhere.. I thought it made the dessert even better. Give this place a try and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
google avatar

Craig W.

Yelp
I'm not a vegan but if food is good, it's good. And this food was really good. This place exceeded my expectations. Yes, it's a tad pricey but really, it's not that expensive. My Buffalo 66 wrap was excellent. I mean, it was really, really good. I honestly could not tell the difference between this and a similar Buffalo chicken type product. We also tried the Rambler (a take on the Carl's Jr. Western cheeseburger, I think) and it was also very good. We got the "beefy" patty. I was just a tad disappointed in the side of "chicken" nuggets we ordered. They were a little bland although the side of honey mustard sauce was outrageously good. Finally, we tried the cookies and cream milkshake. It was a little unusual, and had a bit of a chalky consistency, but overall, it was pretty good. I finished it, if that counts for anything. Would I return? Yes. The food is high quality and the taste is solid. I was very, pleasantly surprised how good this food was.

Linda E.

Yelp
I do regret having to leave this review but hope this will improve the product. I have now on 3 different occasions over 6 months on varying days and times have been served a boxed takeout salad with spoiled lettuce. If I had to estimate, I would guess 40% of lettuce was not edible. As a rule I do not return food to restaurants for replacements. I believe Plant Power just needs to not prepare box salads too far in advance or improve their QA to prevent spoilage. Hope this helps as I like the restaurant otherwise.
google avatar

Rakhi B.

Yelp
Plenty of outside seating and fast food line is quick. Staff is friendly and fast. Got the fisj sandwich..side salad..gingerade..chicken nuggets..and fries. The side salad was really small but fresh. The fish sandwich tasted and looked like McDonald's fish sandwich. The chicken nuggets tasted just like Mcdonald chicken nuggets. The fries were okay kind of like in and out fries. Overall amazing food and fresh and filing.
google avatar

Jeanne W.

Yelp
For me, the best sandwich here is the Filet O' Fishless. It is something I really crave sometimes. It is so good, you would not even notice that it is vegan. The fish has a crunchy batter coating, light and not greasy at all. The filet has a fish like flake to it with the same texture as a swordfish or tuna steak. The tartar sauce is delicious and enhances the sandwich overall so you will never miss the fish. It is tangy with just the right amount of pickle flavor. The curly leaf lettuce is fresh and the ripe tomato slice is sweet. The vegan cheese is silky smooth and melty. All of these great ingredients are held inside a very delicious soft bun. Any sandwich here can be ordered as a combo. This is the best deal as you are able to order a side and a drink. There are several sides available. The French fries here are the skinny ones which other fast food places have. They were nice and hot the last time I was here. The ketchup that came with them tasted good. The kale slaw comes with a mustardy sauce. The side salad is a fresh spring mix which comes with a choice of dressing. The homemade Caesar dressing is excellent and complements the salad well. I usually order a milkshake here because I know the ingredients are plant based and safe for the lactose intolerant. I choose either the strawberry or coffee shake. Both are creamy and tastes rich as the shake is made with oat milk. The shakes aren't overly sweet which is definitely a plus. This location is freeway close and has a drive-thru so it is very convenient.

Yelp
Pros: vegan, dairy free, many food options, great service/staff Cons: small servings, overpriced

Yelp
Great alternative to the traditional fast food restaurants! This was our 3rd time here! I'm not vegan or vegetarian but do have to say that this place was amazing!! I love their take on popular fast foods with a healthy plant-based version. We tried their Big Zac, Chicken 'Nugs, "Fish" Fillet sandwich. Ordering online for pickup is the quickest, although they do have a drive-thru available. I have no idea how they make the food here but it's amazing!
