D.C.’s Polished New Planta Queen Isn’t Your Average Vegan Restaurant - Eater DC

"Planta Queen, a member of a meat-free restaurant empire out of Toronto, brings elegant nigiri, bao, noodles, and herb-filled cocktails to a bustling Northwest D.C. corner on Wednesday, April 26. After opening several omnivorous restaurants across Canada and the U.S., owner Steven Salm went vegan and founded Planta to 'change the perception of how people view plant-based food' in how it 'tastes, looks, feels, and acts.'" - Evan Caplan

Love Planta Queen! Been here multiple times and have never had a bad experience or food! My husband has an onion allergy and they were so accommodating to his allergy. Service is always good and friendly! And of course the food is delicious!

Google
Brought a vegan friend visiting from B.C. and we were both pleasantly surprised with a top notch meal. We came during happy-hour and were able to try several delicious dishes. The bang-bang broccoli and bao buns stole the show. From the beautiful decor to the atmosphere, I know I will become a repeat customer.

Google
this is probably the best vegan food ive ever had. the bang bang broccoli literally shivered my timbers and so did the cauliflower wings. the summer rolls were nice and refreshing and the tuna sushi was UNCANNY to real tuna in sushi. it was insane. THE BEST PART BY FAR WAS THE BANNING PUDDING IT WAS LIKE A CLOUD. amazing restaurant highly recommend to anyone (lots of options)

Went in for a quick lunch before leaving canada. Wish I took the time to go here earlier during my trip. Quick and reliable service. We got our food within 20min. The best I dining experience during my trip. And the food was amazing, really top-tier. Great presentation, lovely flavours and great ingredients. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough.

Google
The Food was Amazing. We ordered Dragon Sushi and it was really good. Bang Bang broccoli was heavy but again really good in taste. I think the food was good for the price so is quantity. Atmosphere - 5 star Service - Waitress and Staff were really good but their computer system were down (Not blaming restaurant) but it made little chaos in order. There were nice enough to provide dessert on the house. One thing to note here is that: they do not allowed cakes from outside specially if it is not Vegan. If you are going for birthday celebrations maybe call them and ask them which cake they will be okay with.

Google
Unreal. Some of the best food I've eaten anywhere in a very, very long time. Service is fantastic as well. It's making me very sad to have only come on the last day of my visit to Canada and that I have to fly away soon. I'll be thinking about the food here for years. Absolutely incredible.

Google
Love the atmosphere here, and the food is honestly amazing definitely get the Brocoli appetizers it’s to die for, the maki rolls are also great bang for your buck I got the spicy tuna and dragon and both were amazing. As a non vegetarian the sushi being fully plant based is hard to tell which speaks volumes. The mushroom truffle udon was definitely the show stealer being extremely flavourful. The bao sliders were nice however not the best, but it was still good to try nonetheless. Highly recommend for both non vegetarian and vegetarian seafood enjoyers. Will definitely be back!!

Google
Some of the best plant-based dishes I've had in the city. Excellent service, great ambience and beautiful flavours in every dish. The 1000 layer crispy potatoes were an instant hit and the Thai Lettuce wraps were a favourite of the night. The stand out dish was the Crab Rangoon Dip that sealed the deal on our return to Planta sometime in the near future. Cannot wait to check out the rest of their menu!

Yelp
I am vegan and have Celiac disease and this place has amazing options for me! Everything I ate was delicious (truffle fried rice was the star!), the ambiance was lovely, and the server was very helpful and careful to keep my Celiac in mind. Every time she brought me a dish, she would verbally confirm that it was Celiac-safe without me having to ask. Everyone with Celiac knows that panic moment when you bite into something delicious and wonder, "wait...is this really gluten free??" Our server made sure I didn't have that moment. Wish I lived nearby so I could go every week. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Finally! Made it to Planta! I am impressed - everything from the ambience, to the food and the service. The decor was very beautiful. Host and servers were very kind and made sure that we were well taken care of. I had the Dan Dan Noodles - they were delicious! Never had anything like it to be honest, and it was full of flavors. Bathrooms (man/woman) were very clean.

Yelp
We went to the Queen/Entertainment district location before a show so it was during happy hour. We ordered the Chick'n Fried mushrooms from the happy hour menu and the Bao sliders, bang bang broccoli and crab rangoon dip from the regular dinner menu. The food at Planta is always good. I must admit I wasn't super fond of the crab rangoon dip but that's likely because I really don't enjoy non dairy cheese so should have known better. Our server was pleasant and attentive and the restaurant, albeit very large is quite cozy.

Yelp
Planta Queen truly stands out as a gem for those with specific dietary needs, offering a diverse and exciting vegan menu. The menu is blooming with options, promising something for everyone. I had the pleasure of trying the Bao Slider with chick'n fried mushroom and pickled cucumber, which was a flavor-packed delight. The 1,000 Laver Crispy Potatoes topped with caviar and sour cream were a unique and indulgent treat, while the torched and pressed avocado with miso provided a satisfying umami burst. The Unagi Eggplant Nigiri and Truffle Udon showcased the creativity and skill of the chefs, delivering complex flavors and textures that left me craving more. Aside from the fantastic food options, the staff at Planta Queen were exceptionally friendly and accommodating, adding to the great ambiance of the restaurant. The fast service and attention to detail further enhanced my dining experience, making it a memorable one. Planta Queen exceeded my expectations with its creative and delicious vegan offerings, friendly staff, and inviting atmosphere. Whether you have specific dietary needs or simply enjoy flavorful plant-based dishes, Planta Queen is a must-visit destination for a truly delightful dining experience. There are planty to choose from!

Yelp
Pricey but worth it. One of my children is strictly vegetarian...like since 10. She loved every dish and I ( as a Carniwhore) loved the dishes too. They were gorgeous and delicious. I did not miss the meat. Great cocktails...just make sure to bring your Centurion Card

Yelp
Very large location for vegetarian and vegan options! The inside is very vibey, definitely a mood. There's a window to the kitchen so you can see the chefs at work. Food was just alright. Nothing really stood out to us. Service was nothing to write home about, it was alright.

Yelp
Overall nice experience, should get a 4 star review but but being an all vegan restaurant, will give and extra star and make it 5. Restaurant space is nice and room was lively. Music was a little too loud which made it difficult to talk. Our waitress was very dull. She didn't offer any menu guidance and did not seem enthusiastic about the menu. Luckily the food and ambiance made up for it. We decided to sample a number of items off the menu. Overall, the food was good. The truffle rice was too smokey for our liking. The rolls, dumplings and bang bang broccoli were fantastic. Dessert was well prepared and the cappuccino to close the meal was nice.

Yelp
Been here twice and ordered take out a few times before, and this is one of my favourite vegetarian restaurants! My personal favourite is the Torched and Pressed and it is a must try! We came recently and were recommended to try the Bang Bang Broccoli by the waitress. We were told that it's a very popular dish! It did not disappoint and I will probably keep ordering this from now on! Finally, the Truffle Fried Rice is my personal favourite as well and it's a must try! Overall, the dishes are really delicious and I love coming here to try different things! The atmosphere is really nice and service is great. Definitely will keep coming back for all these delicious food!

Yelp
Very subtle entrance ~ very easy to miss, so keep your eyes open for their triangular leaf logo door handle on Queen Street Sauce, sauce, sauce!! All their delicious dishes were made even more incredible with their amazing sauces! Some of the dishes our group of 7 ordered (most not pictured): udon noodles, General D's Cauliflower, Dragon roll, Cali roll, Thai Lettuc Wraps, Bang Bang broccoli & then most of is had their limited coconut cake with different flavours of ice cream. Most of us are restricted to certain diets and none of us missed the standard (meat / dairy) versions of these meals! Non-vegans would easily enjoy their offerings. Gorgeous restaurant décor throughout ~ my compliments to the interior designer! Would love to come here again. Sunday eve was great as it made nearby parking stress free. We shall return... Yelp
Overall: 4/5 pretty good for a vegetarian restaurant (as a meat-eater)! I'd come again for sure. Food: 4/5 Singapore noodles: 3.5/5 - it was OK ... the flavour was decent! Dumplings 4.5/5 - this was my favourite part for the meal (in the pic). I really enjoyed the fried dumplings. Mushroom fried rice: 3.5/5 - I thought it was going to be a lot better than it was, but it was ok. Cauliflower bites (I think it was kung pao) 4.5/5. Those were really good and tasted similar to chicken. I'd definitely get this again. Dessert 4.5/5 - Coconut Pie with Mango (can't remember the exact name) was really nice! Service: 4/5 - friendly waiters, recommendations were overall good... Ambiance: 5/5 very nice space and vibe. Felt very classy and had a modern Asian aesthetic.

Yelp
Having tried this Planta location three times total as a non-vegan, I would unfortunately advise against eating here, unless you are vegan, of course. While the restaurant is beautiful and spacious, they seem to have a habit of not respecting reservations, in one case making me wait 15 mins past my reservation to get seated. And no, it wasn't overly busy. The food itself is hit and miss, but mostly miss. Having tried several main dishes, they all fall flat with weird textures and/or flavours. The Dan Dan Noodles, for instance, reeked of cinnamon/nutmeg/clove. Weird. Stick to the apps - the bang bang broccoli in particular was quite good.

Yelp
It was an impromptu lunch hour visit to planta and to my surprise this place served me the best asian vegan options. The torched sushi is to die for! So is the pineapple fried rice. Both quality and quantity are pretty impressive. The service is superb! My drink was both delicious and boozy! Totally loved it. Anyone looking for an intimate dinner this is your spot. The place is huge with din lights and romantic vibes!

Yelp
I came back a second time to this location and opted to sit at the bar. I highly recommend this option. I was the only one there and my in & out time was much quicker. Overall I'd still rate 4 stars - 3 at table, 5 at bar.

Yelp
Planta Queen consistently stands out as my top choice for exceptional vegan dining experiences in downtown Toronto. This Asian fusion gem not only delights the taste buds but also offers impeccable service. The culinary journey at Planta Queen is marked by consistently delicious dishes that showcase a thoughtful blend of flavors. During my visits, I found myself repeatedly drawn to the enticing flavors of their Singapore Noodles and the indulgent delight of the Potato Truffle. The Singapore Noodles showcase a perfect balance of Asian-inspired tastes, while the Potato Truffle elevates comfort food with its rich and savory notes. These dishes have become personal favorites, adding to the allure of Planta Queen. Whether you're a dedicated vegan or someone simply looking to explore plant-based options, Planta Queen is a culinary haven that consistently exceeds expectations. My taste buds and I can't recommend it enough!

Yelp
It was my first time visiting a completely plant-based restaurant, and it was an excellent experience. We had a few dishes to share over drinks, and I couldn't be more pleased with the restaurant atmosphere, quality of food, and service we received. My favorite dishes were the Bang Bang Broccoli and the Potato Truffle Dumplings. For drinks, I really enjoyed their Lych Please Cocktail. I would definitely visit again.

Yelp
I like this place - the food is tasty and the ambiance is nice. It is a bit on the pricier size for the portion size - expect to spend 30+ dollars per person. The dandan noodles was quite tasty - would recommend. All the other dishes were quite good too like the sushi and the appetizers. The ingredients were high quality and fresh. The flavours work well together and you won't even notice this is a plant based restaurant. They also do have specials like happy hour if you want a better deal.

Yelp
A shy little door on Queen Street will take you to a boozy and lush plant-based restaurant. I stopped in a little before 5:00 on a long weekend Friday with a friend and got seated immediately. They were fast at serving food, I don't think anything took longer than 15 minutes to get to the table. I'm a relatively avid meat eater looking to explore vegetarian options in solidarity with my vegetarian/vegan friends. Our server Reece introduced us to the menus, and since it was our first time, gave us recommendations on how to order food. Planta does not skip a beat. We ordered Dragon Rolls, Cauliflower wings (the menu name of this one escapes me), 1000 Layer Potato, and a slice of Olive Oil Cake to share. Dragon Rolls had a salty and crunchy taste. The sauce on the Cauliflower wings was great. 1000 Layer Potato was served with a rich sour creme and caviar. The cake was topped with a citrus sorbet that balanced out the drier texture of the cake. For drinks, we tried the Lych Please and a Sake-something (again, the name is escaping me) from the Happy Hour menu. Tasted great. Highly recommend trying this out on your next dinner outing in Toronto.

Yelp
I visited the recommended vegan restaurant based on a coworker's suggestion. The ambiance was pleasant, creating a nice, boozy atmosphere. Despite being an avid meat lover, I found the variety of dishes enjoyable, and the Dragon Roll sushi was a particular highlight. Overall, a good experience for those open to trying vegan options.

Yelp
It's an Asian-fusion vegan place, has an oriental-style decoration. Good ambience. The Peking Jackfruit Salad I had was good - green papaya slaw was the crispy part, jackfruit was the soft part and it tasted like chicken. The salad was topped with peanuts, herbs and lemongrass. The server said it was small but I couldn't finish. My friend had the Udon Noodles, which looked creamy and she validated the same. The Avocado Lime Tartare was great, but we had an incident - there was a long piece of hair in the tartare... Anyways they got us a new plate. I liked the combination of avocado and beetroot, the taro chips were yummy. The Greenie in a Bottle was kinda overpriced - a small glass of kale and ingredients for $9. Service was good. The staff double-checked if I paid for tips... I paid 20% for me and my friend, guess it's no longer enough for them in the inflation era. Food (quality, presentation) - 3/5 Drinks (quality, variety) - 2/5 Ambience (interior, cleanness) - 5/5 Service - 3.5/5 Value - 3/5

Yelp
Wow this place is swanky! It's like a zen garden coming here. Our server recognized my friend who has been here before! Talk about service and have connection. The food was really good though many of the dishes are deep fried. We got the pad Thai slaw, general D's cauliflower, bang bang broccoli & dragon roll. I loved the pad Thai slaw. My friend it was lacking in flavours but I found it refreshing. I loved the textures of the kelp with the crunchiness of the taro sticks and peanuts. I'd go back just to eat this dish alone, So my fav in order was Thai slaw, broccoli & cauliflower. Hers was cauliflower, broccoli & slaw We did not think of dragon roll as it came first and we ate that immediately! So the best way is for you to go and check it out, It's not cheap but a nice outing I had the strawberry shortcake for dessert too. Yum! Sorry photo of cauliflower got deleted. I'd go again for a treat

Yelp
I was in Toronto with some of my friends for a few days and one of them is vegan, which is exactly why we decided to give Planta a shot as he was a huge fan of the other location. Now this was my first time back home in Toronto in about four years so I was eager to try some new places and I was especially excited to give this vegan sushi place a spot since it wasn't something I have had in the past. This location is located on the busy area of Queen st and is surrounded by great businesses and cool places to check out after or before you eat. The restaurant itself is massive and absolutely stunning, being one of the nicest vegan restaurants I've seen in this city. The staff here was extremely friendly and delightful whenever they were at the table. Now I wasn't hungry enough to devour half the menu here, but I was hungry enough to go in on a roll and I ended up ordering one that wasn't on the menu, I believe it was whatever the special roll was in late June. Now, the picture below is of the actual roll I ate and I believe it had melon, vegan tuna, and whatever the crunchy pieces are on top of it. The roll itself looked very good and tasted pretty solid when being dipped into the soy sauce that I definitely took advantage of. Was this the best vegan sushi I've ever had? Honestly, I don't know. Overall, The food was solid and tasted good, but it's not an experience I've revisited in my mind and I also don't think I'll be returning on my next trip home. This place is a prime example of "OK" to me. If you are a vegan in need of sushi, give this place a go, but if you aren't, maybe try something else.

Yelp
Very cool takes on classic food items to make them into vegan meals! Beautiful interior and ambience; noise level was low because we went to eat fairly early. Service was quick and the servers were friendly. Would make a return trip with more people so more food could be tried and shared!

Yelp
Let me start by saying I love my meat, and was kind of hesitant about trying Planta on Queen, because it is vegetarian. When I got to the one on Queen West, I was surprised by how nice the restaurant looked with its bold dark interior. I ordered a starter called Peking Jackfruits. The name sounded very exotic, which intrigued me. Plus I also like jackfruit. But the way it was prepared in this dish wasn't to my taste as they cooked it. I think I will stay with the fresh, uncooked version. However, what I couldn't get enough of was the truffle mushroom udon. It was heavenly. The noodle was soft and so slurpable. The soup was flavourful and dreamy creamy. I would have happily dipped the bread in the left over soup if I had some. I'd go back for more!!

Raneen T.

Yelp
Great service and delicious sushi! We really enjoyed our lunch. Very cool vibe. I recommend the eggplant sushi
google avatar

Khyati D.

Yelp
Planta has been one of the top on my list of vegan restaurants. Hence chose it to be the spot for my year end dinner. It was a chef's choice menu for the night. The menu started with roasted Brussels sprouts. Well cooked and well seasoned. The jackfruit starter wasn't something my taste buds didn't appreciate. The truffle mushroom rice was enriched with subtle flavours. Just right amount of everything. The service was a little off as it was a busy night. Hence deducting one star.
google avatar

Shru M.

Yelp
I absolutely loved the concept food and the vegan/vegetarian menu here. All the dishes seem to be well thought out and the menu is well curated. The decor and ambience of the restaurant is also top notch. They have different sections done up with Japanese design inspirations and it's beautiful. We ordered a bunch of dishes for our table since we were six and most of them hit the mark. Our favorites were the "chicken" Fried Mushrooms, Bang Bang Broccoli, Rainbow Roll and Spinach & Shitake Dumplings. The Ahi Watermelon Nigiri and Kung Pao eggplant were just okay. The drinks were also unique and good! Our main issue was we had a reservation on a saturday evening and the restaurant was insanely busy which caused slow service and we weren't seated at our table for over 30 mins past our reservation time. But still the food and ambience was worth the wait.
google avatar

Daniel B.

Yelp
A beautiful physical space that can hold its own against any large spot in the city. Vegetables that taste good but try really really hard. Nothing was bad. Kinda on the expensive side for what it is.
google avatar

Katherine W.

Yelp
I was in between meetings and got the Udon Noodles to go. I didn't get to eat in, but the vibe seemed fancy. The staff was friendly, and the food was ready pretty fast. Udon noodle was like a noodle cream oil soup with mushrooms and light truffles. Mine wasn't very heavy on the truffle, so it was bland. I still enjoyed it, given how unusual it was. It likely would have been better as an order-in dish.

Yelp
Plants Queen is a vegan restaurant serving Asian/Spanish fusion cuisine. Came here for a solo dining night out and was pleasantly delighted with my experience! Sat at the bar so it wasn't too awkward, the bartender was super friendly. Asked for a few recommendations and ordered a few dishes to try. First was the bang bang broccoli - crunchy and delicious! It's almost like a sweet and sour tempura broccoli with a little kick of spice (pretty good portion too). Next and probably my favourite dish was the watermelon tuna on crispy rice. Holy crap the tuna felt so real! The texture was almost spot on and it really felt like spicy tuna. I could've probably finished 2 of these dishes. Next was the mango pineapple salad - pretty standard, the fruit was ripe and went really well with the red onions and peanuts. Didn't blow me away but still yummy. Lastly was the truffle mushroom udon. Sadly this disappointed me a bit - kinda lacked flavour imo. I was mostly getting coconut milk, the texture was nice but overall I could've gone without this dish. The lychee cocktail I got was nice, cute presentation and pretty strong (which I like). The atmosphere was a bit dim and not too crowded - definitely a nice spot to grab some drinks and dishes to share between friends. Overall, a nice experience and I would definitely come back for that watermelon tuna!
google avatar

Shelby S.

Yelp
Don't knock it till you try it! Never thought I'd eat vegan sushi but it was delicious. The tuna was made from watermelon and rye unagi was mushroom. Super unique and delicious. The restaurant itself was very spacious. Great for a big group!

Yelp
Following a Friday TIFF screening down the street, we were hungry for plant-based awesomeness. Planta Queen was a stellar choice! No one was on the patio when we arrived, and we were offered patio seating when we checked in at the entrance, so it wasn't clear that the patio even belonged to Planta. Turns out that it is theirs, so if you want outdoor seating next to the streetcar, you'll have to ask for it. Inside is calming, bright and cozy all at once. We were seated right away, and service throughout was prompt and courteous. Food arrived in about 5 minutes, noting that there were four other small parties in the dining room. All items are meant to be shared, tapas style. We shared two items, which was plenty for lunch: Spinach & Shitake Dumplings resting in an incredible hoisin sauce. Have this dish as a reminder of what good dumplings taste like! Dan Dan noodles with Chinese broccoli (no cilantro please!). This will remind you that coconut sauce can taste better than you're used to. The matcha mojito has a light grassy, citrusy taste like really good freshly squeezed juice. Super refreshing on a hot September day. If you're like me, and have this spot on your "places to go" list, check it off ASAP! Perfection from start to finish.

Miles T.

Yelp
The ambience was pretty great visually, but the music was a touch too loud for my liking. The food was really good, but a bit too pricy for what you get. Overall, I'd recommend it just because of how many vegan options they had.
google avatar

Rachel L.

Yelp
I came here on a Saturday evening and it was busy! I had a reservation and was seated promptly. I got the matcha mojito but wasn't a huge fan. It didn't have much matcha flavour and mostly like a regular mojito. I got the creamy udon mushroom truffle as my main and it was delicious. The sauce was so creamy and the mushrooms were nicely sautéed. I also got the avocado truffle pressed sushi which was m delicious. I had this for take out before and loved it. A great meal overall! I would definitely come back and try other dishes on their menu. The service was mediocre, nothing special. It's a bit on the pricey side, my meal came to around $100 after tips and tax.
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
Planta is always a hit and this is coming from a person who usually does not enjoy vegan food. It's best to come in a group to be able to try many dishes, it's tapas style. Sometimes I feel like the plates are on the smaller side. My favourites from this visit were the torched and pressed sushi, I felt like it mimics oshi so well. The bang bang broccoli is always a go-to and continues to be my favourite dish. It's fried to perfection, and the sauce just pairs so perfectly. Salt fat acid heat, it's all there in the bang bang broccoli! The egg plant and crispy gyoza were great as well! The egg plant came out piping hot and was cooked to perfection. A crispy skin while nice and soft inside. I would pass on the rainbow sushi and pineapple fried rice next time. The service is great here as well!
google avatar

Deanna D.

Yelp
Really cute place. The staff are friendly and the place is busy for a Monday evening (they have a Monday unlimited Maki rolls special). The decor is very upbeat and modern. I really enjoyed the sushi. I didn't try anything else on the menu, so I can't vouch for it. But the Maki rolls are something to behold. The spicy tuna has to be their best one. The others were nice as well, but that one had the best flavours and the best texture. I think I'll take my sister there since she's vegetarian and they're a delicious option.
google avatar

Anila Y.

Yelp
Definitely a solid 4 stars! First off, ambience is excellent. If you are celebrating anything, this is definitely a great option. Love the plant-themed decor and open concept. On to the food, we loved the flavors of our meal for sure! Our top hits were the Mushroom Bacon Inari and the Sweet Corn Dumplings. The latter were served in a beautiful broth and topped with corn nuts...drool! My reasoning for knocking off a start is twofold: First, the menu is very low-protein. So, if you are bringing a veg-skeptic here, it might confirm their belief that plant-based food doesn't fill you up. Second, some of the dishes relied too heavily on oil/condiments to shine. For example, the pineapple fried rice was to die for flavor-wise, but lacked in the veggie department. When I picture fried rice, I picture colorful veggies, but this one just had onion and pineapple. Furthermore, it states goji berries in the description, but it literally came with 5 goji berries as garnish which was misleading. Also, have to shoutout to our waiter who was so fun and gave us such good information/tips about the menu! All-in-all, I will definitely return here, and try the other PLANTA locations in the city, and definitely recommend them for a special occasion!
google avatar

Caroline N.

Yelp
This is the first PLANTA location I've visited and still my favorite location. I have fell absolutely in love with this restaurant. Being a vegan, it was nice to have an entire menu with so many delicious options available making it hard to decide which item to order. However, I'm glad I got to visit with family so we could order family style and create a shared food experience l sampling various dishes we ordered. We loved this restaurant so much that we visited two days in a row to try more dishes! My favorites were the bang bang shrimp, bao slider, and truffle fried rice. I also tried the Kombucha mojito which was delicious and the berry white which was okay (more bitter than sweet). Excellent customer service and the ambiance was great! I even got my non-vegan family members hooked on PLANTA!

Yelp
After visiting Planta at Yorkville and having such a good experience I was very looking forward to trying Queen's location. One of the dishes I absolutely loved at Yorkville location was Beet tartare. We ordered it here as well along with a few other dishes and it was just not the same dish at all. Such a disappointment. We also ordered ahi watermelon sushi roll, it was nice but nothing special. Ahi watermelon sushi was nice. Fried shiitake mushrooms made in the 'fried calamari' style was really nice, I would say I liked it the best. Also we got shiitake and spinach dumplings. They were okay, I think if there was no sauce provided they would be quite blend. Overall it was pretty disappointing experience in terms of food. The waitress was very nice. We voiced out our frustration with food especially with beet tartare as the prices were pretty high for small portions. A manager came along and listened to some of our concerns which resulted in taking beet tartare of our bill and giving us complimentary deserts which were absolutely delicious (apple pie and brownie with ice-cream). 4 starts are for excellent service and attention to customer concerns. I do hope the concerns over food will result in its improvement.

Yelp
Went here for dinner with 5 on a Friday night. They were super good with reservations especially because we were late. Service overall here was amazing and our waiter was making the night better overall. The inside is well decorated and has a good vibe and ambiance. The food and drinks were pretty good, nothing mind blowing. I would come here again but I just feel like it could've been better thought out with the portions and size of the vegetables and such. Overall ambiance is 8/10, service 9/10, food 6.5/10, price point 7/10.

Yelp
Food is not bad but not worth the price for vegan food. If you had to pay $83 dollar and the portions are tapas style, you would be disappointed too.

Yelp
My first experience here was amazing both food and services . My most recent experience left a sour taste in my mouth . A friend and I met up for an early dinner at 4:30 . I was late getting there 10-15 mins . Since it was super hot , and I was totally rushing to get there , I needed a minute to catch my breathe . Upon arriving , two mins in , the waiter Simon comes by and asks for our order . I tell him we need some time . A few mins pass and he comes by again , we tell him we are still not ready . Two mins goes by and he comes back yet a time . Feeling pressured , we decided to order one starter , the watermelon nigiri and drinks . He then says in a condescending way , that it's only 2 pieces . In my head I was thinking , " yes Simon we all can read here ". Five mins comes by and comes back again and asks if we want to order more . At this point , I was getting a little frustrated . I understand there's no one dining there at the time but would have appreciated more space instead of the constant pressure to order . We eventually ordered a few more dishes which also didn't taste that good . Not sure if it's due to Simon's poor customer service or the food in general really went downhill but I didn't enjoy it much and was happy to leave . It was a uncomfortable dining situation . Quick summary - We got the truffle fried rice , it smelled really good but way too oily . Close to $25. - Peking jackfruit salad - it was a bit tasteless. Supposed to come with Thai basil but they randomly substituted or accidentally made it with cilantro which my frd doesn't eat -bao slider was good but not worth it $6 for a tiny half bun with a small chunk of 'chicken ' - watermelon nigiri - $6 for two pieces . Let's just say it did taste like watermelon and no I wouldn't get it again -my friend got the pear fresh pressed juice and I got the ginger fresh pressed juice . Couldn't remember what it was called but just average . Close to $10 each Overall this was not the best experience and I would be hesitant to come back

Yelp
I've been a Planta fan for years, but was hugely disappointed when I brought a dining companion with a garlic allergy. The "no garlic" menu our server produced was a laminated standard menu...on which nearly every item was eliminated by Sharpie (see photo). We were shocked that a plant-based pioneer would be so unaccommodating to patrons' health concerns; the server was indifferent. We asked why--since the garlic in most items was only in a sauce--they couldn't simply omit the sauce, or serve it on the side. Answer: "When the head chef isn't here, no one in the kitchen is allowed to 'vary recipes' for fear it might compromise the quality of our food." Really? We won't be back.

Yelp
The food was so flavorful. I was impressed by how they were able to recreate the flavors using all vegan ingredients. My favorite was the bang bang broccoli. The service was great and the restaurant was so pretty. I would definitely come again!

Yelp
An excellent spot for vegetarians and vegans. The cuisine has a clear Asian influence (from several different parts of Asia - they serve sushi, bao, dumplings, pad thai salad etc.). The menu is built to share, we ordered lots of small to medium size plates which was a great way to sample different flavors. There's also one section of the menu for mains, where just one would be almost enough to fill 1 person (maybe a little small). As others have mentioned, the bang bang brocolli is delicious. It's crispy and flavorful. The chick'n fried mushrooms and bao sliders were great as well. I wasn't a huge fan of the potatoe dumplings however. They had 4 dessert options ranging from cake/brownir variants to a rice pudding and an apple pastry. The atmosphere is nice as well - as you'll be able to tell from the ambiance and the menu prices, Planta is a slightly upscale restaurant but nothing too exorbitant, especially for Toronto. It's a large space with tons of seating and nice decorations (there's a few bright pink/red trees that are a unique touch to the decor). The servers are friendly and describe the dishes to you as they serve them, adding to the "fancy" feel. Overall one of the best spots in Toronto for more upscale vegan cuisine.

Yelp
I want to start off by saying I'm not Vegan. That being said, I was not disappointed at ALL, this meal was great. We started off by just appreciating the ambiance. The restaurant is beautiful, dark and honestly really cool. Date night spot material for sure. We ordered a glass of wine and a ton of stuff to share. The first things to show up were the avocado tartare, and the sushi. The tartare was immaculate, with tarp chips and on a bed of beets. Sesame flavours and capers really rounded out the dish, and the texture of the taro chips was awesome. The sushi was crazy. It was ahi tuna made of watermelon and inari made from mushrooms. I thought inari was vegan so I'm confused why it had to be "veganised" out of mushrooms but it was good non the less. The ahi watermelon was insane, I'd never guess it wasn't a fish. Next the bang bang broccoli, this was highly recommended and probably top dish of the night. It was slightly spicy, and really creamy from the peanut sauce but the actual broccoli was crispy. Delicious. The dumplings were awesome, and the sauce was great on both the steamed and fried dumplings. Well done. The bao was okay, not MY favourite but my friend loved it. I thought it was a little boring. Finally, the udon Hakka noodles. This honestly tasted like green Thai curry, and was really good, but not what I expected when I ordered Hakka noodles. Not really the star of the night, but enjoyable. Overall I highly highly recommend this place. Definitely the best vegan restaurant I've ever been to!

Yelp
Came here with a friend for a late lunch. The inside of the restaurant is really nice but the lighting is pretty dim. Menu had a lot of interesting vegan options. Would recommend however is on the pricier side. Food Crispy gyoza we're yummy. No complaints. You get 5 per order. Kung pao eggplant was really salty but good flavour. I'd suggest ordering it with rice as it comes as its own dish. Bao slider was really good, you only get 1 though. The rainbow roll was surprisingly good and I would definitely recommend! Spicy tuna roll was good but I'm not really a coconut person and it comes topped with coconut. Didn't taste like real tuna and more like it's own thing. Would recommend!

Yelp
Experienced my first fully vegan meal last night at Planta Queen! If I could eat vegan food like this all the time, I could easily convert. I was completely satisfied and did not feel like anything was missing from my meal. I highly recommend you give it a try. Not only was the food delicious, the restaurant was happening like a well oiled machine! Love the atmosphere!

Yelp
Flavourful, Delicious, Impressive! Great experience dining at Planta Queen - chic ambience, reasonably priced menu and shareable meals. Pad Thai Slaw 5/5 - a MUST! Mimics Susur Lee's famous slaw and is the perfect fresh appetizer to get you excited for what's to come. Perfect blend of fresh, crispy and crunchy ingredients Singaporean Noodles 3/5 - personally not the biggest fan flavour wise, mimicked more of an Indian noodle dish than a traditional Singaporean noodle dish with more Indian curry style of flavour. Chili Peanut Noodles 5/5 - flavourful, spicy, hearty yet not heavy. If you're feeling a nice warm dish, this is a great choice. Ambience is dimly lit, perfect for a date. Good service and extensive drink menu.
