Are you kidding me!!! The food that I ate today I cannot believe came from a food truck. I’ve been in Austin 4 years and I can honestly say that was the best meal from a food truck that I’ve ever had. And that’s all I do is eat at food trucks. Kimchi hot dog and a whole fried snapper? Where can you get that in Austin? No where. Seriously so good and you can just tell that they are such good people. Seriously out of bounds🫡

Try the Fatty Lechon with Yuca fries! It will not disappoint! It took a while for the Cubanito to arrive, but it was worth the wait and we were warned in advance. (The cubanito is a specialty dish and is not always on the menu.) Great service and a fully dedicated Gluten Free establishment. Update: 2nd visit Food was absolutely delicious again. This is one of my favorite places. Very friendly service from husband and wife team! 5% customer service fee added to the ticket. Great vibe in the park. Plenty of seating in the shade, and live music. Clean and cool restrooms onsite.

I consider myself a food snob. It’s a difficult thing to be, and I’m accustomed to being disappointed. But Plantain Bar blew me away. I went in with low expectations, despite their 4.9 star rating, simply because it’s a food truck, how great could it be? Let me tell you, pretty friggin great. I got the Fatty Lechon in the plantain cups, and I could definitely see this on a real plate in an elevated dining restaurant. Such a fantastic combination of flavors. The deep savory flavor of the melt-in-your-mouth lechon is balanced by the semi-sweet plantain cups and complemented with a bit of freshness from the avocado and microgreens on top.. If you’re wondering what to order, the answer is this. I also got the yucca fries with the special sauce. Yucca fries were perfect, not hard, not stringy, perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, the perfect vehicle for that fantastic sauce. The couple that runs it is incredibly sweet and the atmosphere is very lively. 10/10 would recommend you check out this gem. PS. Bring bug spray!

Google
BEST MEAL EVER. Got the bandido piggy and it was so delicious and fresh. The arepa was perfectly soft and crispy. Also got the patacombo which was so so good. Guava juice went great with both of these. Highly recommend this place, I’ll be back ASAP!

Google
We tried the Plaintain Bar food truck for the first time and were very pleased with the authentic and delicious flavors of the plates we ordered. The presentation of the plates-both to-go- was also nice. We had the “El gran combo,” which is a shareable plate and the “fatty lechón.” Only reason i didn’t give it five stars was because my husband and I thought the gran combo plate was a bit pricey ($24), and the lechón plate ($14) serving size could’ve been a bit bigger. The flavors, however, were spot on. The sauces and all. Tenían el sazón!

Google
I love sweet plantains but decided to try something new and go savory and they were awesome. The low key star of the show were the perfectly seasoned fries 👌🏻 also loved the sauce. Will definitely be back to try the sweet plantains and some of the bigger dishes. Thank you!!

Google
Absolutely the best tostones I’ve ever had in my life and it’s one of my favorites! Cooked to perfection and the avocado👌🏻 they make their own tortillas which were so so tasty on the taco I got! Thank you for offering vegan options plantain bar! 💜

Google
The best Puerto Rican fusion you’ll find in ATX! Always fresh and tasty meals. Great location at the Thicket, quick, yummy, & cheap. Great classic options as well as gluten free & vegan options. This is a great spot for authentic food lovers!

Yelp
So good. Don't look up the menu early online though. It changes. The Fatty lechon for my hubby and Vegan arepitas for me. Fabulous taste and presentation.

Michele K.

Yelp
Delish! Quite an adventure to find it in the large back yard of a bar. Fatty Lechon was the best! It was 100 degrees outside, but the good food trumped the hot weather-- just never you mind the heat! Best food truck.

Becca H.

Yelp
The Fatty Lechon was one of the best things I've ever ate. It is so rich with flavor and has the perfect texture with the plantains as cups for the meat. HIGHLY recommend. Love the whole food truck park vibe. We happened to go when it was 100 degrees outside and the guy from Plantain Bar turned on the misters for us and gave us extra waters for free

Yelp
Thank you for this meal! I was able to order the Pollo Loco w/ Boricua for lunch and WOW! To start the food was so light and fresh. The yucca fries were perfectly soft yet al dente. The patacone was also fried perfectly. The star of the plate was the boricua sauce - this sauce was drinkable, so so good. Can't wait to try more!

Alejandra G.

Yelp
Most delicious thing ever!!!!! Worker was so sweet and the food was amazing. The yucca fries were perfect!

Ornella P.

Yelp
I'm Haitian/Cuban Brooklynite and I've been looking for a place in Austin that will help with my Caribbean cravings for aLOOOOOOOOONG 6 years and WOW this place was definitely worth that wait. The flavors are layered, the meat is juicy and succulent the sauce is spectacular. The plantains and fries are fresh and crispy. You can tell that they care about the quality of their food. Now let's talk about presentation, just because they are food truck doesn't mean that they skimp on the visuals. I'm highly impressed and will definitely be back. So so so happy I found this gem

Lara G.

Yelp
I've been coming to eat at this food truck since they opened. I seriously do not mind driving from any part of Austin to eat here because their food is the BEST! It's unique and authentic to what anyone else is doing in town. The best part..it's all gluten free! My heart (and stomach) has a deep love for the food. Always consistent and special. I always leave so full!!

Kimmie T.

Yelp
Delicious plantains? Check! Friendly owners? Check! Menu for both meat eaters and veggie heads? Check! This trailer is new to the Thicket Food park, but they are obviously not new to their passion of making the most delicious plantains ever! Definitely don't skip out on this awesome trailer and all the deliciousness it has to offer!

Aaron B.

Yelp
Outstanding! Packed with flavor and stellar presentation. Will certainly return. We ordered the fatty and chicken patacones. Each was unique and the fried plantain added so much to the flavor. 5 stars for sure!

Jen S.

Yelp
Went by to get some food and was so excited , only to be disappointed. Food was old and she ran out of arroz. If anyone goes don't go after 2pm food might be old.

Yelp
It hurts to write this review because Im puerto rican but it's my truth and facts to inform others and then they can decide for themselves. I was excited to try this place because it's a puerto rican truck with the foods I love the most but I was disappointed left and right. We pretty much tried everything that was on their little menu but Jibaritos because they were out and we were informed that their menu changes every day. We ordered the alcapurrias, yuca fries, tostones, sweet monkey, & fatty lechon. The first thing I need to point out is that there was WAY TOO much salt on everything! The sizes were very small for $7 each appetizer. I thought maybe its a basket of them if they were such a small size. I come from Chicago and the alcapurrias were no more than $2 and they were a great size. Im aware things are more expensive but the food was way small, just for one, for $7. Then the yuca fries were only about 4 and too much salt on everything, even the fatty lechon had all that salt on the tostones. That little dish doesn't need it. You can't enjoy the great flavors these dishes usually offer with all that salt. The fatty lechon was good, it was just the excessive salt. The Alcapurrias were decent but way too little. tostones had too much salt, no ajo on top, & not enough. Honestly, I wouldn't return because there are others that offer better food and quantity. I hope they ease up on the salt and offer a little more for your money. Wish I was writing a better review for this place but wasn't the case this time around. They were friendly and had suggestions. It is a small menu so you won't get hung up on it. Consider everything as an appetizer sampler and they do have parking for that little food truck area.

Grace D.

Yelp
So yummy! Definitely stop here if you're at Far Out Lounge! You can't go wrong with any of the menu items!!

Lauren A.

Yelp
I really liked Plantain Bar! The tostones (smashed fried green plantains) were really tasty and the boricua sauce was excellent. The Coco Rico soda is so good too. I'm a little biased because I will eat plantains in any form, but my friend got a main dish with lechon (pork) and it also looked super good.

Vivi D.

Yelp
Omg hidden gem of a food truck! Probably the best PR food I've had! Tiny plantain empanadas are a must try! I love that you get three different kind! No kid food options but they were able to put something together for them. Thank you...def coming back!

Carlos R.

Yelp
Delicious Puerto Rican/latin food! Fatty lechon was my favorite and the empanadas as well. Definitely coming back to this food truck and enjoy the whole ambiance that Thicker food park has to offer.

Renee E.

Yelp
Unbelievably delicious! I was not expecting anything and was so pleasantly surprised with how good this was! You must give this place a try!

Mac S.

Yelp
LOVE this authentic PR gem. Just had some incredible tostones with pernil for lunch. Delicious food, authentic inspiration, speedy and friendly service, and a great outdoor area to hang out.

Amy K.

Yelp
Not only is this the perfect place for someone who has celiac, the food was DELICIOUS!!!! I highly recommend this gem in Austin and will most definitely be back.

Kelsey L.

Yelp
This food truck was recommended on a local gluten free page and thought I would give this place a try. The food didn't disappoint. The food was amazing and 100% safe for anyone with celiac disease. The food was so good you wouldn't know it's gluten free. The owner was extremely friendly and I can't wait to go back and try more food.

Mercy P.

Yelp
Best Pernil I have ever had!! It was moist, tender, and cooked to perfection. I lived in Puerto Rico for three years and this pernil was even better than in PR. The owners are also so kind and sweet!

Gloria W.

Yelp
I went to the Thicket for 2 other food trucks, but ended up with neither because I was ultimately drawn to this for the aroma of the food coming from this truck. I'm so glad I went with this choice. My friend and I shared the Fatty Lechon and a side of fried plantains. I wasn't sure what to expect since I'm not familiar with the cuisine, but it was sooooo good. The Lechon was tender and moist, so flavorful. Combined with the other ingredients, the entire meal had great textures - crispy, creamy, tender, and it was an amazing flavor bomb. My only complaint was that I wished there was more because I enjoyed it so much. Gonna have to come back to try the other items. Definitely recommending this to all my foodie friends.

Skyler S.

Yelp
DELICIOUS Puerto Rican food. The tostones are great, and so is the pernil. Highly recommend

Elaine C.

Yelp
Excellent food, super friendly and helpful service, everything is gluten-free! Their daily special, fried catfish, was amazing. We will be back!

Allison B.

Yelp
I'm mad at myself for not trying this place sooner! Fatty Lechon, Crazy Cow, yucca fries and sweet plantains were all delicious and the service was good & friendly! Will definitely be back!

Tara O.

Yelp
I love this food truck! The owners are super sweet and the food is amazing. I'm new to Puerto Rican food but a big fan of plantains and tried the pollo loco. Each flavor supported each other and it was the most perfect bite. The whole dish was balanced, new and sophisticated in a very approachable food truck way :)

Emily W.

Yelp
Met some friends at this food truck park and I got the pork-- the fatty lechon. Delicious! Pork was good, guacamole was good, all of it was delicious. Service was great, and they had Halloween candy! Pretty fast too. Definitely a messy food, at least for me, but very yummy. A bit pricy but I would give 4.5 stars if I could.

Kaylie M.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I wanted to try out a new food spot and we were immediately drawn to this place. The smell was amazing and the staff was very friendly - we ordered the pollo loco and it was SO GOOD! Definitely 10/10 will be coming back!

Liv T.

Yelp
Amazing food! Some of the best we've had in Austin. We ordered their Thanksgiving special for 5 (roasted pork and rice) which was very reasonably priced. We ordered a side of plantains as well. Everything was delicious. It was fresh and seasoned really well. I highly recommended giving this truck a try. Service was great and when I reached out through instagram to ask how to best reheat our pork, I received a reply within minutes.
