Boston Vegan Restaurant Plantpub Fenway Has Shut Down - Eater Boston

"Plantpub Fenway was a large vegan restaurant located near Fenway Park, opened in July 2022. It offered vegan versions of beer hall favorites and was initially well-received, even being named the top restaurant opening of the year by the Boston Globe. However, it faced challenges and eventually closed permanently in early 2023." - Erika Adams

Okay this one is a weird one to review bc I feel very conflicted, on one hand it’s a pretty good spot with pretty good food but on the other hand the vibes felt really off as well as being quite pricy for what it Food quality/ taste = ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The food quality was excellent, my fiancé and I were a little anxious about coming as it had a lot of conflicting reviews, some people saying they loved the food others saying “it just ain’t it.” Since my fiancé works at another vegan restaurant, Veggie Galaxy, we wanted to see what other vegan restaurants are doing in the Boston area as well. Our started was the chilli cheese fries which were good but definitely needed A LOT more sauce. When it was first given to us it looked like it was a bowl of fries, and on top with minced faux meat (beyond or impossible) with beans with little to no sauce. We asked for more sauce and that fixed it. The part that was weird is that they charged us $2 for the smallest amount of their “pub sauce” and gave us this weird very impractical bowl for the “cheese” to pour, a bit odd. Anyways, once our main courses came we were excited. I got the chicken ceaser wrap with buffalo chick’n and man it was delicious. My fiancé got the chick’n sandwich and the chick’n was very crispy. Drinks = ⭐️⭐️ We also got a cocktail and the daiquiri cocktail and it was fine. Simply just middle of the ground, could taste the cheap alcohol that was being covered up with other things. Price = ⭐️⭐️ Man, the price was a little bit too high for what it was. As I mentioned previously, they charged us for a small thing of sauce (couldn’t have been more than a tablespoon or two). When my fiancé ordered a daiquiri it looked like someone already drank half of it (see picture below). We also ordered 1 cocktail, 1 beer, 3 entrées and 1 appetiser and it was about $120. Yikes! If you go, just grab a sandwich or something and buy or make yourself a cocktail somewhere else. Service = ⭐️⭐️⭐️ The service was fine, nothing great but nothing terrible. I felt bad though because our server looked/ seemed exhausted. Aesthetics/ vibes = ⭐️ I understand that it’s supposed to go for that modern but classic pub vibe/ aesthetic but it felt like it was all over the place. The place was huge but it felt chaotic. The decor was really random, for example there were these giant paintings or photos of plants that just felt random. The music was REALLY loud when there weren’t that many people in the restaurant at the time. This is where the restaurant really struggled in my book.

We went here to give Plantpub another try after having a bad experience at the Kendall location. We really wanted to like this place, but the food was just not good. We ordered the Marg pizza and Guac Burger. The pizza was almost inedible with the amount of cheese that they layered on top of it - it was flavorless and as seen in the pics, completely burned on the bottom. The sweet potato fries were the opposite, they were flimsy, soggy, and were barely cooked (had zero crisp). The guac burger was OK, but I still wouldn't order it again. As a vegan who frequents vegan/vegetarians restaurants, this was a disappointing experience

Killer vegan spot right by Fenway. A non-vegan myself, I was enticed here by a friend for pre-game dinner and drinks. Had the garlic fingers and buffalo cauliflower appetizers, and both were top-notch, tasty and filling. Great wine and beer selection. Excellent service. Olympic Otter

No exaggeration, best nachos I've had in Boston. It's super filling and the spice level is perfect. The combination of ingredients is also very thoughtful and on theme. Exceeded my expectations and this will be the go-to spot during sporting events for me and my friends.

Great vegan options by Fenway, excited to get our fenway frank! Service was poor, it was practically empty but our server vanished for 20 minutes before taking our order. Menu doesn't state what comes with fries and what doesn't and server didn't mention this either whist we were openly discussing whether to add fries, so we effectively ended up with 6 portions of fries! He also forgot a drink from our order not once but twice, no apology when I had to mention it a third time to tell him not to bother as our meal was over. Pricey for what it was but great location just off Fenway.

Absolutely amazing addition to the Fenway area. I was in love with the food and the atmosphere. The Buffalo pizza is TO DIE FOR, and you need to ask for the soft serve because WOW. Thankful this restaurant found its way to the heart of Boston because we needed it.

Fantastic waitstaff! Great cauliflower BBQ appetizer. The impossible was very good too. Good food before a Sox game!

Really delicious Buffalo cauliflower wings and chili cheese fries!! Good selection for draft drinks and great options for being gluten and dairy free. I’m always open to trying meat alternatives and this one was great! Workers could have been friendlier but we did go right after the pre-Sox game rush so it’s understandable that they were probably exhausted. I’m looking forward to coming back and trying more!
