London’s New Restaurant Openings - London - The Infatuation

"Formerly known as Patara, this Thai spot in Soho is now Platapian. But fans of the original will be pleased to hear that they’re keeping things in the family. The changing of the guard comes with a new menu that includes claypot rice with jumbo crab and desserts like Thai roll crêpes." - sinead cranna, rianne shlebak

I had the most fantastic time here today. The service was excellent with extremely attentive staff. They were ready to answer every question and explain everything on the menu to us. I’ve been to a few Thai places in London that have been decent but this restaurant exceeded my expectations! It felt like I was back in Bangkok. The flavours, the textures, the scent? 10/10. For starters we ordered the (1) Stuffed snub nose chilli with chicken and Prawns which was delicious but a little spicier than anticipated. (2) Grilled Rib-eye skewer with fermented fish which was fantastic but unfortunately just a single small skewer- we expected maybe 2 or 3 but fantastic nonetheless. (3) Crispy duck spring rolls- fantastic. My date and I ordered the : Beef short rib with the salted egg yolk with a side of coconut rice & the Yellow Crab Curry with Jasmine rice. Do not walk- RUN! Melt in your mouth beef with a burst of flavours- spicy, citrus, salty, fresh, hints of sweetness- FABULOUS. Only downside I would say is the crème brûlée wasn’t to my taste but if you enjoy Pandang I’m sure you’ll love it 😻 Will definitely be returning soon lol

I had such a great experience at this restaurant yesterday. The food is truly authentic Thai—flavourful, balanced, and cooked with real care. The atmosphere is warm and pleasant, the cocktails are absolutely delicious, and the service from Pratrick and Pond is genuinely outstanding. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to come back again. Highly recommended!

Such an amazing restaurant! The food was absolutely divine and so authentic, especially the razor clams on the menu. Cocktails were stunning and incredibly delicious. Definitely coming back for the coriander beef curry too, that coriander fish sauce is to die for 😋 The atmosphere was relaxing and the service was super lovely. Thank you especially to Jup, very attentive and friendly! Her recommendations were so helpful and definitely made our dining experience feel much more personal!

I came here for the “Sip & Som Tum” workshop and had the best time! Chef Wiew was very detailed in teaching and it was really fun to learn about all the ingredients. We got lots of tips too! It was very fun we got to make it with the Thai mortar and pestle. The food tasted really good and all the staff were very friendly. It was a good paced and didn’t feel rushed. I asked lots of questions and Chef Wiew was very patient and helpful. Definitely would come back to eat from their menu and I would recommend this place!

Tried this new place on a whim and was very pleasantly surprised. We were quickly seated at the bar once we arrived by friendly staff. I had the lychee martini, which was great. We shared a few dishes - my favourites were the papaya salad and the beef with ginger and peppers. I’ll definitely be back!

Platapian Soho is a real gem. The food is consistently great and full of authentic Thai flavours, fresh, well-balanced, and genuinely tasty. What really stands out is that the quality hasn’t dropped after COVID, which sadly isn’t the case for many restaurants. On top of that, the staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience warm and relaxed.
