The 13 Best Restaurants In Brighton & Hove - London - The Infatuation

"Plateau is sexy. There’s exposed brick, enough natural wine to make you sincerely use the word ‘funky’ in public, and a portrait of a pug in Tudor attire above the black-tiled bar. When it comes to what you should order, Plateau does the bit-of-this, bit-of-that small plate thing in a truly impressive way, and in a plot twist everyone saw coming, light, salt-fest whipped cod’s roe and tender tartare goes exceptionally well with candlelight. Thanks to the low lighting and abundance of rock oysters in the room, there’s a general sensation that someone is just about to start getting it on in the corner. Come here for date night and—praise be—it could be you." - heidi lauth beasley

"Plateau is sexy. There’s exposed brick, enough natural wine to make you sincerely use the word ‘funky’ in public, and a portrait of a pug in Tudor attire above the black tiled bar. (If pugs doing their best Henry Caville impression is your thing, you’re welcome.) The cool, confident servers are entirely judgment free and offer expert wine suggestions. Absolutely loved our dinner at Plateau. We both went for the lamb rump – perfectly cooked, full of flavour, and beautifully presented. Shared the crispy potatoes with alioli, which were golden, crunchy, and seriously moreish. The hibiscus margarita was a standout – refreshing, slightly floral, and great to sip on. Lovely atmosphere, friendly service, and a relaxed but vibrant vibe.

Didn’t plan to shoot — just to sit and work. But then Plateau happened. A bluish-green facade with tiled charm pulled me in. Brick walls, a black mosaic bar, warm orange lighting from oversized lamps… the kind of space that quietly asks to be photographed. The ginger lady behind the bar welcomed me with a smile, and that set the tone — this place feels kind. Eventually, I closed the laptop and opened the lens. Couldn’t resist.

Popped in for a quick drink as part of date night with my wife. Sat at the bar, which would have been my preferred choice regardless. My wife loved her espresso martini. I had an arty farty lemonade which was nice. The bread and olive oil with seeds in was absolutely amazing. As good as I’ve had, and I’ve been to Italy etc. Small, intimate establishment. We got lucky did advise booking a table and wouldn’t recommend it for a large party. Would certainly return.

Amazing dining experience. Relaxed atmosphere, exceptional service and incredible food. We loved that all was locally sourced, some grown by farmers right outside of town. Unique produce grown using biodynamic farming methods. Sourced organic wines and sustainable proteins. Everything was fresh and flavorful, with unique taste combinations. Absolutely Delicious! Attentive and well informed server. Patient with our 6 year old. Exceptional dining experience.

Yelp
Taking advantage of the OctoberBest deal going on in Brighton at the moment, the top 20 Restaurants are all doing a £20 menu. It's a real catch! So many great restaurants having an affordable menu which you may not always get a chance to dine at. We dined from Plateau's autumn set menu. For starters, I opted for the cured salmon, apple, fennel and lemon. It was so delicate and fresh. The salmon, slightly salted REALLY really played with the flavours of the fennel and apple. A great light starter, my dining partners opted for the pigs head croquette, and though they said delicious, it was a lot going on. For mains, I had pumpkin risotto with walnuts and my favourite Barkham blue cheese. It was so creamy! I always feel a little miffed when the veg option is a risotto but this was very very tasty. Onto more cheese.. dessert! I went for the Spenwood and quince. Spenwood is a pressed sheep's cheese. We also ended up getting a cheeky little blackberry cheesecake as well. This was a cheesecake from heaven! Definitely recommend.

Yelp
This year we decided to spend 3 days in Brighton over New Year's and we made it a point to only eat well and treat ourselves to extremely good food. I found Plateau here on Yelp, OBVS, and the thing that caught my attention was that (as the name might suggest), they serve French food on a platter-sharing basis. And my better half and I LOVE sharing platters with little different nibbles. In the special of the day board that evening the first item was Blue Cheese Gnocchi (as an appetizer): the only other time we had blue cheese gnocchi was at an american restaurant, where they were served with a blue cheese dressing (delicious) so we were intrigued to see what they would be like in French cuisine. It was a medium sized tray with little pockets of gnocchi on each side, garnished with dollops of soft blue cheese, grilled pears, vegetables and (if I'm not terribly mistaken) honey. It was so so so good. After that we shared a meat platter (which sounds much classier in their french menu): it had a leg of duck, a cremy pot of sausage, a lamb samosa and the biggest and most delicious piece of pork belly I've ever tasted. And I've eaten a lot of pork belly in my life :D Each of them came with the right sauce and vegetables (all in the platter in small portions) and it was a feast for the palate. We followed up with a dessert platter. I wish I could remember all the things it had on it: I can recall candied honeycomb, meringue...some sort of sorbet? I really know nothing about desserts so I am not going to attempt to explain any further. Washed it all down with good wine and beer, served in funky glasses. The plase is cosy and intimate, I think it's perfect for couples and the music is not too loud so you can still have a nice conversation with your date. Will definitely be going back :) PROTIP: If you check in on Yelp at Lunchtime you get a glass of wine for free :) They also have a loyalty card that lets you collect spending points!

Yelp
A great French cafe and wine bar in central Brighton just across from Town Hall. I only swung by for an espresso and a dessert and left impressed wanting to return for a proper meal. Nice atmospheric interior, with high ceilings and exposed bricks. The desserts were great---really dug the blueberry frangipane tarte and my friend enjoyed the crumble. Perfect spot for a chill drink or bite to eat after hanging by the beach boardwalk. 4 solid stars!

Yelp
Had a fantastic lunch here yesterday with two friends as part of the Brighton OctoberBEST offer, whereby the top 20 restaurants in Brighton offer a 3 course meal for £20 from a set menu. At Plateau the offer included a glass of wine! I chose the pigs cheek croquette to start, which came with leek puree and kim chi. There was a lot going on flavour wise. The leek puree was black, so I'm assuming there might have been squid ink in it? It had a really rich strong flavour, as did the Kim Chi. I'm glad there wasn't too much on the plate, as although I enjoyed it, the flavours of the leek puree and the kim chi together were very intense. The pigs cheek croquette was delicious. For the main I decided to try something I wouldn't usually choose, and I had the the Venison pie with frites puree (essentially posh pie and mash) I was pleased to see that it wasn't an actual full pie, rather more of a casserole with a pastry crust over the top over the bowl. I try to limit my carbs so this was good for me. The crust was bloody tasty though! Also it was my first time trying venison, I was pleasantly surprised! I really enjoyed it. The frites puree was divine! Really smooth and rich in flavour. I would have been happy with a bowl of that to be honest. Finally for dessert, I opted for a trio of ice cream/sorbet. There were some really interesting flavours to choose from! I chose a scoop of basil ice cream (unusual but absolutely wonderful!) creme fraiche ice cream (my favourite of the three) and some passionfruit sorbet. The passionfruit sorbet tastes really good with the basil ice cream, a tantalising combination! We were all really impressed with the food and service. You also get a free glass of wine when you check on Yelp! So we took advantage of that after we finished our meal. We ended up staying for a couple of hours, we really enjoyed the vibe. I'll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
4 of us on this very nice day in Brighton. Took quite a while to find parking, but was worth the wait. Very nice, rustic place, with staff that is very friendly and helpful. Very meat centric, but in a really good way. Everything stood out on it's own, very nicely done. Most everything were standouts - Viandes - pretty amazing, pork belly had an amazing thin crisp crust, oxtail cheeks were amazing (hard to go wrong with cheeks), lamb empanada was excellent, and merguez to top it all off. Really an awesome meat board. Chips - truffle and Berkswell frittes - crispy, creamy, really good. Also got the truffle chips. Very nice. Tandori Mackeral - super crispy skin with nice, subtle flavors to compliment. Steak Frittes - hangar steak with frittes, simple, delicious Charcuterie selection - again, simple and excellent Jersey royales were the only dish that didn't do it for the table. It was served in foil, which is different, but basically everything just kind of steamed in there. Would have been awesome if broiled in a small gratin dish which would have given a nice cheesy crust. This place is definitely worth going out of your way for. I'll be back for sure. Thank you Plateau.

Yelp
Amazing!! My sister and I made a reservation here for a Tuesday evening(after missing lunch) and the place was buzzing. We ordered the octopus with pig head and ink app that was delicious! And for entrees we ordered whatever was on the chalkboard which ended up being an awesome steak with bone marrow and a fried cheese ball and then a lamb with decadent blue cheese ravioli and veggies. The service was also very good, if I'm ever back in Brighton I will definitely come back!

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Plateau for quite some time now and finally got the opportunity last night at a dinner to celebrate our recent three peaks success. We started the evening with a couple of glasses of sparkling wine at the bar downstairs, and were then shown to our table upstairs. The restaurant is French and most of the staff seem to come from France or French speaking countries. The menu features a number of sharing platters, alongside a good selection of specials on the blackboard. I went for the sea bass with crab bisque and sea vegetables. The flavours in the dish were exquisite and the fish was cooked to perfection, tender flesh and crispy skin. Other dishes on the table included Moroccan shoulder of lamb, steak, and the meat and vegetarian platters. Both the platters were large and looked tasty - I will definitely try one on my next visit. The puddings were interesting too, and if you were feeling piggish, you could go for a sharing platter of puds. I couldn't manage it on this occasion so went for the basil pannacotta with macerated strawberries and pistachio dust. The basil flavour was quite subtle but complemented the strawberries nicely. The wine here is mostly natural and free of additives such as sulphates. The waitress assured us that this meant we would be hangover free tomorrow, regardless of the quantity we drank - maybe I'll put this theory to the test on my next visit!

Yelp
Just amazing. Great ambiance, French bistro style. Totally interesting dishes and friendly attentive service. Worth a trip to Brighton even if it's raining. Sharing plates are great and with great combinations. Want to go back soon as I'm back in UK

Yelp
Went to lovely Plateau last Thursday for a Christmas/Birthday combo with some friends. I dropped a cake off before the meal and the staff were lovely taking it in and arranging for it to be cut with candles on top and everything! We had the veggie, fish and charcuterie platters and the most delicious of white wines - les clous, domaine saint nicolas, thierry michon, vendée from the Loire Valley. To go with the cake, we had a few glasses of bubbles and I can safely say that it is one of my favourite ways of doing dinner - SHARING is CARING!

Yelp
Great place to go for a cocktail. I like to take friends here when they are visiting Brighton and we usually go on a Sunday for their amazing Bloody Mary's. Last night we went here for a meal for my husbands birthday as we had been wanting to try the food for ages. We had high expectations and it didn't disappoint. We shared the tandoori mackerel to start which came with a beetroot sauce and sliced apple, this was lovely. For main we went for the meat sharing platter which came with pork belly, duck leg, merguez sausages and an empanada. There was also some sauces and various toppings also included. Everything had so much flavour and really interesting flavours too. You could even share this between 3 people. The only thing I wasn't overly impressed with was the side of truffle chips we got, they was very soft in the middle and crunchy on the outside but we did find then greasy..suppose they tasted more like roast potatoes. Next time we would get a salad instead to go with the meats or the bread looked really nice too. We could just about manage a dessert to share. There was no chocolate dessert option unfortunately so we went for the rhubarb & pistachio tart with saffron ice cream which I really liked even though I didn't think I liked rhubarb! The setting is great with perfect dimmed lighting, just enough of a background music where you can easily have a conversation and friendly, knowledgeable service. There was a bit of a delay with our starters and without us even saying anything the waiter came over and apologised for the delay and said we could have our 2 glasses of champagne on the house so that was a nice touch and a kind gesture which makes all the difference. It's not cheap but it is value for money. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
I have been here a few times since moving to Brighton yet it always seems to exceed expectations. Definitely on the pricey side but well worth it! Good portions of exquisite food & knowledgeable staff. I will be going back and I do recommend it to my friends.
