Kalamaki GR - Review - New York - The Infatuation

"Greek dishes like chicken kalamaki and beef or lamb gyros are available for delivery and takeout here. To order from Kalamaki GR, call ahead or order online. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

What a cute and delicious spot for Greek food! Got the chicken gyro platter for dinner and it was a big portion for the money (read great value). Chicken gyro was succulent, pita was perfectly toasted, tzatziki sauce was fresh and salad was tasty too. Perhaps the horta (green veggies) could have used slightly more seasoning but it was honest and healthy. Wait staff was super nice and attentive - even helped me pack my leftovers in a very tidy way. Plan to come back next time I’m in the neighborhood. Drinks (brunch mimosas) are very reasonably price too as is pretty much the whole menu. Highly recommend!!

Google
First time this evening.. and wow! My husband and I were transported to Greece! The food was a 10, delicious, great portions, and the most hospitable servers. We will be returning, we live close and can’t believe we hadn’t stopped by sooner. If you’re undecided take the leap it is so worth it. Get the Sour Cherry mimosa -Thank me later!

Absolute hidden gem! The food is authentic and delicious & the hospitality from staff is on point every single time I come to eat. It feels like you are teleporting to Greece when you walk through the doors. Definitely will be returning regularly!

Google
Authentic Flavors and Warm Hospitality! I had an incredible experience at Plateia GR! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with friendly smiles and a cozy, welcoming atmosphere that immediately set the tone for the evening. The food was absolutely delicious — everything tasted fresh and authentically Greek. The grilled octopus was tender and perfectly seasoned, the meatballs were so moist and so good, and the gyro was delicious and full of flavor. The tzatziki and warm pita were the best I’ve ever had, and the galaktobouriko at the end of the meal was the perfect sweet finish. What really stood out was the staff’s genuine hospitality — they took the time to explain the dishes and made sure we had everything we needed without ever feeling rushed. If you’re looking for a place that serves real Greek cuisine with heart and care, this is it. I can’t wait to come back!

We had such an incredible experience dining here after a movie night with my cousins — this Greek spot truly transported us straight to Greece! I started with the gyro platter, and the lamb was cooked to perfection — juicy, flavorful, and paired beautifully with the lemon potatoes. Then came the chicken souvlaki, served with warm pita and creamy tzatziki — each bite was a burst of Mediterranean flavor. We also shared a trio of spreads: eggplant (melitzanosalata), kopanisti, and tirokafteri, all served with fresh pita. It honestly felt like a concert in my mouth — rich, spicy, creamy, tangy — just wow. As first-time guests, the staff went above and beyond. Our waiter surprised us with a special final dish: tender chicken strips carved like beef gyro, and it was the perfect finish — juicy, savory, and deeply seasoned. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. We will be back someday!

I recently visited Plateia for lunch, and overall, it was a delightful experience with a few minor notes for improvement. I started with the Chicken Souvlaki Sticks, which were fantastic. They use chicken thighs instead of breasts, resulting in juicy and flavorful skewers that really hit the spot. The accompanying tzatziki was spot on—smooth and not too overpowering, perfectly complementing the chicken. I also ordered the Greek Salad. While it was decent, I felt it could be enhanced. I requested it without onions, and I think it definitely could have benefited from the addition of green peppers for some extra crunch and flavor. The tomatoes were cut a bit too small, which made them watery rather than fresh and vibrant. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated, creating a lovely atmosphere. The service was attentive and friendly, which added to the positive vibe of the meal. Given that Plateia is a new spot, I understand that they’re still fine-tuning their offerings. I’m looking forward to returning to see how they evolve and to try more of their menu. Overall, a solid lunch experience!

Google
i’ve only had them through uber eats, but every time the food shows up it feels like someone actually cared back in that kitchen. the portions land heavy in a good way. the kind of bang for your buck that makes you look at the receipt and nod to yourself like yeah that was worth it. everything tastes fresh. honest. no shortcuts. just real greek comfort hitting you after a long day. it’s rare to get delivery that feels this solid. plateia pulls it off every time.

Google
We were in the mood for Greek and were driving through the area and found this awesome place. The ambiance is clean and cheery, the staff is overly friendly, the food was awesome and the prices are very reasonable. I had the Chicken Gyro platter which came with a salad and lemone potatoa, some pita and GREAT tzatziki. My wife had the Prasini Salata topped with grilled salmon "and it was delicious". We can't wait to go back. We ended with the baklava - one of the best I've had in years.

The food was delicious and the presentation was fantastic. Also the portions were generous, would highly recommend them.

Yelp
It has been a while so decided to give this place a try. I def had a better meal and see the lemon potatoes are so much better! Delish! You can mix the souvlaki which I liked, I got 2 chicken and 1 pork. The pork souvlaki actually was better than chicken. The tzatziki sauce was good, and the pita was really good. Usually I don't care for pita but theirs was good! The salad could use a little more love like throw in a little feta. The souvlaki sticks were on the smaller size. But overall def had a better meal! Will try their gyro platter again next time!

Yelp
3.5 stars overall. Restaurant looks quite new and very clean in the decor. The dining room is very well lit and looks semi casual overall. There is a back dining area for bigger groups or for when the front gets full. We were lucky to score a table near the semi-open kitchen counter area so we could kind of see the action. The wall is still high but we could see the plates coming out. Our experience was hit or miss this visit. The Ouzo Charred octopus we ordered had two temperatures, warm to hot so that was a little off. And it was overcooked, quite chewy, which led me to think that this was octopus reheated. I hope it was not the case. The Ouzo itself had a nice dry-anise flavor but the octopus not tender, didn't save the dish. I also ordered the fried zucchini chips, which is usually one of my favorite guilty pleasures dining at Greek places but I didn't care for the batter on these. The kolokithokeftedes were just not crispy as expected. Onto the entrees, my dining companion did not enjoy her shrimp skewers, it was grilled to a nice color but slightly under seasoned. To be fair, she just returned from Greece so she may be judging more harshly. I had ordered the keftiko, which was a tender, slow cooked lamb entree. This was good but had a gamey after taste. I didn't mind since I like lamb but for those on the fence, this dish is not for you. The herbd and spices I enjoyed along with the side salad and fries. We passed on dessert even though we were curious. The waiter was quite attentive and that we appreciated. Plates were good portions and while I'm not running back, I'd return to try something else. I love Greek food afterall and I didn't get to order the gyro which is really a better barometer for testing out this place.

Yelp
The food is fine, but the website doesn't work at all and their food descriptions on grubhub are unclear. I ordered ahead and had to wait about 30 minutes for the food. I ordered 3 gyro. I got 3 boxes of gyro meat. No sides and no pita or anything else. I was told that 3 gyro a la carte means just the meat. There's no descriptions on grubhub explaining that. They eventually agreed to make the meat into sandwiches but they weren't happy about it. I also ordered a greek soda ($5) which they were out of and offered me a can of $1 ginger ale as a substitute. Eventually I convinced her to do a $5 coffee instead but, again, they weren't happy about doing that. With so many other local places, I won't be back.

Yelp
Plateia GR is like a block from my friends' house in Bayside. We picked it up for dinner on a Monday. I ordered a Gyro with feta and no tomato. My friends ordered a chicken plate and a gyro plate. I love all the Greek food in Queens. Super generous portions too!
google avatar

Yelp
Very very good Greek/Mediterranean food- dare I say might almost be better than Maria's in bayside which currently holds our top spot. They are much more generous with their portions than Maria's that's for sure! The only gripe I have is that their menu is a bit limited but they are still a newer restaurant so they have time to perfect! For example, would love to see more dip options or be able to order the egg plant dip on its own than only from the three dip plate. But the souvlaki is delish here, juicy and well seasoned. Lemon potatoes amazing! Have to try the salad some time

Yelp
4.25 This will probably become a regular spot for Greek/Mediterranean food in our rotation. Plateia GR just opened recently and took over the location of a place wifey and I used to order from, Kalamaki GR. We were hoping this place would be just as good, and it did not disappoint. From the outside and in, I love how Plateia GR brightened everything up. The white exterior paint (even the sidewalk design) and the interior decor make the place feel livelier and more inviting. The service at Plateia GR was okay. Our server, quite honestly, wasn't the greatest. It took a while to get our order, and he didn't seem to pay much attention to us afterwards. The busser and one of the people behind the counter seemed to take better care of us, so kudos to them. After our initial order, we wanted to try something else and the person behind the counter noticed I needed something and put the order in. The food, however, was pretty good. They bring out seasoned pita with a generous portion of really good tzatziki. I love how their tzatziki has a strong garlic flavor. We ordered the Plateia Chips (fried zucchini and eggplant), Gyro Platter (beef/lamb) with fries, a Chicken Souvlaki Platter with rice, and an order of lemon potatoes. The Plateia Chips were great--the breading and seasoning complemented them well. The chicken souvlaki was done perfectly; it was juicy and flavorful. The fries, lemon potatoes, and rice were solid. The gyro meat, however, seemed a bit dry. A nice touch at Plateia GR is their branding. The disposable paper tablecloths and their bags are stamped with their logo, which adds a nice personal flair.

Yelp
We had a delightful lunch yesterday at this new Greek restaurant. The décor was lovely and really transports you to the Greek isles with its traditional Greek blue and white color scheme, shutters, painted sidewalk and blond wood floors and tables. We were greeted as soon as we came in and the owner even came over to chat with us during our meal. We got: Choice of 3 Spreads ($16): we choose the Tzatziki (cucumber yogurt dip), Kopanisti (spiced feta dip) and Eggplant dip. It came with toasted pita bread. Our favorite hands down among the 3 dips was the Tzatziki. It was tangy and creamy and yummy. Pita Sandwich ($14): this comes in your choice of protein (10 options) and we got one each with Pork and Chicken Souvlaki. The sandwiches had tomatoes, onions, tzatziki and French fries. Very hearty and filling. We thought the Chicken Souvlaki was good, but we loved the Pork Souvlaki. We ended up ordering an extra stick of Pork Souvlaki meat as a result. French Fries ($9): delicious, crispy and fresh. I wish it came with a dip but alas we had to make do with ketchup Single Pork Souvlaki Stick ($4): perfectly grilled, smoky, tender pieces of pork. We ordered this because the pita sandwich didn't have enough meat for our liking. It's nice not to have to schlep to Astoria for good Greek food. And soon they will have an outdoor patio area in the back of the restaurant. Another good reason to come and visit them.

Yelp
Came in with a party of 8 (all various ages) on a Saturday night. The vibe was great; very friendly staff and atmosphere, attentive, and everyone enjoyed their meals (something I don't say about this group very often--maybe never). The wine is all Greek; we had the "less dry" white and it was tasty. I also loved their tzatziki sauce, and that they had horta on the menu! My only quibble was with the lighting. For dinner on a Saturday night, it was WAY too bright in there! The Greek theme of "Santorini" white and blue is lovely but I would have loved if they had put some dimmers on their light switches to turn them down in the evening. For lunch, bright and airy is great. For dinner, no. Maybe some candlelight? I don't know but it drove me crazy so I just wanted to make that suggestion to the management for whatever that's worth. It just made me feel like I was eating in a cafeteria.

Yelp
Nice looking place! Fresh, clean and new! We wanted to love it since it is in our neighborhood. It took over for Kalamaki. The service was good, friendly and welcoming. Our waiter was attentive. My haloumi was drowned in olive oil and hence lost the firm grilled texture. We had chicken and lemon potatoes that were flavorful but again overly doused in olive oil. My hubby liked the lamb chops. The octopoti as an app was good but at $28, small portion. They ran out of galactoboureko so we had the tiramisu and orange cake for dessert. They were very flavorful and nicely portioned. We'd like to give it another try in the future.

Yelp
Bright, airy, space. We had the mixed grille with two sides which was delicious. The deserts looked great too.

Yelp
This Greek restaurant just opens for a month. We went there for a quick lunch. The indoor seating is beautiful and cozy. The service is attentive. The waiter served water and complimentary pita right away once we sat down. Fried calamari was super delicious and crispy outside, soft inside. Each piece was quite huge. Greek salad was very fresh with a thick chunk of feta cheese. My friend ordered single chicken souvlaki stick, and she said it was juicy and soft. I strongly recommend this restaurant and will go back for sure.

Yelp
Quick takeout lunch from NEW Plateia GR in Bayside. Friendly and welcoming staff, bright, clean location. A few guests occupied tables inside, and after a look at the menu, we ordered Pita Sandwiches, and waited outside. Host was happy to customize our order, even last minute, and brought the food out to us when ready. Overstuffed, warm tender pita - not soggy! - perfectly seasoned, fresh ingredients, very tasty! Greek seafood fans might go elsewhere for fish and get meat here. Recommend. Welcome to the neighborhood and good luck!

Yelp
We ordered the Mixed grill for my son's birthday and it was so good!! It came with 4 choices of protein, 2 of sides and 2 dips. It's was all very tasty but I thought the sides were a little small in comparison to the other items. All in all I would still would order this again.

Pat W.

Yelp
Initially came by for their salads a previous date (delicious btw) and noticed the cozy internal decor when picking up the takeout. Decided to come back for a dine in and glad I did. Ordered the zucchini/eggplant chips appetizer with souvlaki platters (pork and chicken) as a main. They gave a basket of baked chips with tzatziki sauce which was welcomed and delicious. The zucchini/eggplant chips were lightly fried and tasted great with their refreshing tzatziki sauce. The grilled meat was done well, flavored and juicy. I opted for the crispy fries while my partner had lemon potatoes (bit sour on its own, but goes well with the meats). They also had a tasty salad and hearty pita bread to go along with tzatziki sauce and meats. Service was quick and attentive. Appreciated the fact they provided more napkins when I made a lil sauce splash removing meat from the skewers We were stuffed by the end of the meal and opted out of dessert (would def try if I didn't eat so much) yet they still gave us a slice of baklava on the house, which was very much appreciated. Def will be coming back here!

Yelp
Good local choice. The place is pretty and has good space in the back. The salad was excellent and the so were the zucchini fritters.
google avatar

Cristian M.

Yelp
The food was delicious as if I was back in Greece. The service was excellent. Very friendly and very clean. The restaurant took me back to a restaurant back in Santorini .

Paul L.

Yelp
I got the chicken souvlaki, the flavors were good but for $16 this is a disrespectful amount of chicken. Maybe 2 bites at most. Hoping its an off day but would try once more.
google avatar

Maria P.

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant bayside definitely needed this new addition. Their octopus is so succulent and their calamari just the way I personally like it. Will be coming back next week with my in laws who are visiting from PA.

Mingus H.

Yelp
Overpriced and less than subpar food, except for the fries. Unfortunately the wait staff is rude and dismissive.
google avatar

Yelp
Had lunch here a couple of weeks ago with Mom. It was our first time and won't be our last. The room was bright, nicely decorated and immaculate. Food presentation was creative, the prices were reasonable. The service was great and most importantly, our meals were both delicious.

Yelp
Small, beautifully decorated restaurant. Very good Greek food, attentive service. Reasonably priced.

Yelp
We loved the food!! Amazing portions, so fresh, fair prices. Will definitely be back. The only negative was the fried pita chips they served. Fresh pitas would've been better.

D L.

Yelp
Food was tasty and fresh tasting. Decent amount of food. We ordered takeout, so we didn't eat there, but the place seemed nice and spacious and clean.

Sophia W.

Yelp
I heard this place had good food. Today I took my mom there for a birthday lunch. The restaurant was mostly empty. The food took a lot longer than it should have on a slow afternoon. They may have had online orders to fill, but it didn't seem that way. While the prices are fair, the portions are not what you've come to expect. Entrees that came with a side of fries had such tiny portions of fries. I would guess each portion used 1/4-1/2 of a potato at most. We all got different dishes and no one was wowed by anything. The food wasn't bad, it just wasn't great. The one thing that was awful was the Horta. I don't know what leafy green was used but it wasn't dandelion and it wasn't cooked well enough. Horta are finished with lots of lemon and olive oil. This had neither (there was olive oil on the table). This was sweet, it had been made with cinnamon. I don't know if this some obscure regional preparation, but what I was given wasn't Horta. Considering how slow it was, our waiter was not attentive after he took the orders. Water wasn't replenished, our check took a long time. The restaurant itself is clean, bright and pleasant looking. Didn't use the restrooms so I can't comment on their condition. I was really hoping Plateia would be as good as Kalamaki, which used to be there. I'm sorry to say I don't see myself coming back here.

Yelp
Came here last week to try the pork souvalki, and I was not disappointed. The taste brought me back to a when I was in Greece. The service was incredible everyone had a smile on, just great atmosphere. Would recommend.

Marisa C.

Yelp
We had such a great meal in a new Greek restaurant in the neighborhood. I had the chicken gyro, which was very flavorful. My husband really enjoyed the skirt steak. The food highlight was what my daughter ordered -- the Slow Cooked Lamb Shank. It was falling off the bone tender, and perfectly seasoned. The waiter told us that they cook it for six hours. My daughter is a really picky eater and loved it. She also loved the tiramisu for dessert. The service is excellent. Everyone is friendly and very welcoming. The restaurant was completely renovated with all whites and blues. It was a great experience, and we will definitely be going back.
google avatar

DJ F.

Yelp
Had lunch here today (lamb gyro salad, pita with gyro and fries) which was very good but only 6 diners including us at 1pm. Hope it gets busier at dinner.

Sam V.

Yelp
My wife and I had lunch there today. I had salmon with rice and a prasini salad. My wife had a gyro platter. Everything was excellent, fresh, very tasty and very well presented. The service, by Christos, was very attentive, friendly and generally outstanding. The decor, Greek music and general ambiance were also very good. It felt like we were eating in a small cafe in Greece.

Yelp
Food was delicious, priced well, very nice portions and staff was friendly. We ordered delivery and it was delivered warm and on time. Definitely recommend it.

Yelp
ate there tonight! Great food , great service, and I LOVED the music playlist! Please post it somewhere on your IG page or something. Also the restaurant is beautiful. I will def be back!

John P.

Yelp
Amazing new Greek restaurant with great food and nice vibe. Kontosouvli was terrific and I loved the desserts too!

Elizabeth B.

Yelp
My new favorite Greek restaurant. Amazing salads. Apps and entrees. Been ordering once a week since they've opened

Spiros L.

Yelp
Great fresh Greek food! The best quality Greek food that I have found outside of Greece. This brings me back to my childhood!

Frank P.

Yelp
If I could give it no stars I would. Terrible service to start. They are very understaffed, and the staff they do have looks like they would rather be anywhere else but there. The food was fine yet somehow grossly overpriced, you could tell that it wasn't made by an experienced Greek chef. And the older woman who brought me my check was beyond rude. The decor looked cheap and tacky nothing Greek about it. Honestly I have nothing good to say about this place. I personally never want to give them my money again and I recommend others do the same.

Charming S.

Yelp
Pita and Greek fries were OK. Chicken souvlaki was greasy, fatty, rubbery, and covered in way too much oregano. No tzatziki with my order. Overall disappointing.

Karl W.

Yelp
i've tried all the greek spots in queens ny. this place beats them all. best value. best juicy/fatty cuts. I order from this restaurant at least once a week lol.
