Yong He Zhi Jia on Buford Highway is Closed | Eater Atlanta

"I also learned Playa Bowls will open in Chamblee at Parkview on Peachtree, bringing the same surf shop–like grab-and-go menu of salads, soups, poke, juices, smoothies and bowls, with both Atlanta locations possibly opening by the end of the year; the concept comes to Atlanta from Johnny McCall and Matt Huckeba and the chain currently has 48 U.S. locations." - Beth McKibben

We get Playa Bowls quite often! Whenever we need to get a little health kick or need a little pick me up, an açaí bowl or playa bowl always hits the trick! Be sure to sign up for the rewards program!

Husband and I had a date night so after the restaurant, we had to have dessert. Playa Bowl to the rescue! When we arrived, the cashier genuinely greeted us. I ordered the Tropical Açaí Bowl. Husband ordered a Nutella açaí Bowl. The bowls are made of soft plastic which caused husband to slightly drop mine. My toppings hit the floor 😞. The young lady who took our orders continued to be soooo sweet (gracious & kind)! Well she cleaned the mess and gave me more toppings. You all have a gem working here!

Google
Delicious every single time! No matter what bowl or smoothie i get, i know it’s going to be divine! They have great customer service and ordering online or in person is always easy! I love it here and will be back again later this week! 😂

I don’t think I’ve had a bad experience at this location. It’s always clean. Plenty of space to sit down. It’s a good ambience. Playlist is nice. Luv is a gem, very communicative. Then between Astrid & Danny my order is always complete. Never a mess up. Will not stop coming to playa. It’s to good to pass up. Definitely appreciate the service from the team they have here.

I come to this location almost weekly! I do get the same thing ( a booster smoothie) because it is DIVINE!!! I love the staff, I love the efficiency, and I love the location. My family and i are addicted. We also get our nails done in the plaza and we always stop in to get a smoothie before we get our nails done. This location is near my job, hence why i go almost weekly. Random times out of the year, i also surprise my team with smoothies from here and they love it! The offerings are superb. Even though I typically get the same thing, I have tried so many other smoothies and I love them all. To me they also have the best acai bowl in the city. 110/10!

Whew ! I love me some playa bowls lol I’m here every other 2-3 days and happy I signed up for the rewards thanks to Jacob. He was very very nice anytime I walk in he’s always pleasant and goes above and beyond. He’s always very patient and I appreciate that! 10/10 get the tropical bowl no coconut flakes with extra honey half açaí half pitaya u won’t regret it 😅😅

Kel C.

Google
Service was great! However this is my second time at this location where I experience the açaí tasting less fresh than usual. This time it was actually freezer burnt probably won’t be returning to this location when compared to the other locations have quality açaí.

Delicious bowls with fresh ingredients. Service is good and quick. My favorite was the coconut bowl, but there are a lot of great options to choose from.

Yelp
I ordered from here on Uber Eats with several coworkers. I had my hopes set high due to their extensive menu but my order fell flat. I picked up the Nutella Acai Bowl with the addition of Raw Cocoa Nibs. Something about the base tasted so off like it was spoiled that I had to stop eating the bowl a quarter of the way in. My coworkers ordered the PB & Jammin' Acai Bowl and the Pura Vida Acai Bowl and both seemed to really enjoy it. Happy to give this place the benefit of the doubt since I could have chosen a bad bowl, but I may try a different location in Atlanta next time just to be sure. I am rating this higher than I believe it deserves because the people I was with enjoyed it far more than I did.

Yelp
Playa Bowls serves bowls of several bases ( acaí, pitaya, coconut, green, mango, banana, oatmeal), smoothies, juices and coffees w/ sustainability and community in mind. The founders, Robert Giuliani & Abby Taylor, gained inspiration from enjoying açaí and pitaya bowls while visiting surf towns in North and Central America. Playa Bowls is located in the Windsor Parkview shopping center at the intersection of Peachtree Blvd. and Clairmont Rd. Playa Bowls is a chain of over 200 stores nationwide, with six in metro-Atlanta (Beltline, Chamblee, Sandy Springs, Peachtree Corners, Milton, Alpharetta). Playa Bowls transports you to a beach town surf shop with its bright colors, beach murals, and relaxing vibe. Customer service is solid for a fast-casual restaurant. We ordered the Mango Berry Bowl and the Dragonberry-Pitaya Bowl. Bowls are creamy frozen blends of tropical fruits topped with granolas, seeds, and other toppings. I have historically been a skeptic with bowls, but Playa Bowls has made me a believer. The bowls were refreshing, indulgent, full of flavor, and satisfying. I will be back to explore other combinations of bowl happiness. I am also curious about their smoothies and juices.

Yelp
Always a great vibe at Playa Bowls Chamblee. The employees are always friendly and the music is always bumping. If you never been to a Playa Bowls and like smoothies / açaí definitely check it out. They have so many different bowl options on their menu. Pitaya base, acai base, banana base and others! Their topping are super fresh and delicious. I typically order the Nutella bowl. Acai Base, bananas, strawberries, granola, Nutella, and coconut flakes(I go with cacao nibs instead.)

Yelp
I visited Playa Bowls and tried the Peanut Butter Jelly bowl. While the bowl was just okay, I think it may have been more about my choice than the quality. The cashier was patient and answered all of my questions, which I really appreciated and there was a lot of seating. I would definitely go back and try another combination since there are so many great options to choose from!

Yelp
The customer service fell off and it seems like I get rotten fruit by two particular staff members and yes, corporate was emailed. Go to a newer location or a different shop, where the staff isn't burned out.

Yelp
This was my first time inside a playa bowl. The staff were so friendly and fun! I had no idea what to expect as I've never been inside and didn't know what types of food they offered. Loved the layout, the options, everything was perfect! The only thing I did not like was that there were tooo many options. They had the walk up menu, a chalk menu on the wall, and another paper version. A lot of pressure to narrow down a specific one. But none the less if you are a person who likes options - you should have no issue!! The ocean avenue bowl was so good. Overall, I enjoyed the experience and will go back.
google avatar

Caprice G.

Yelp
The options for toppings are endless! (Almost overwhelming) My advice is to take a peek at the menu prior to arrival so that you at least have an idea when you get there. I'm a coconut fan, but an all coconut base is a bit much, but they suggested to do half coco half açaí and the combo was perfect. I'm positive you'll find the right combo for you!

Ronita D.

Yelp
i go to Playa once a week. Today I went and received the smallest bowl ever ...,,, Where's the fruit?!
google avatar

Dina S.

Yelp
This place has great vibes and I hope they don't change! All was very good the both times I have been here and I received nothing but great customer service!!! I love their bowls and the place is always clean!!! SHOUT TO THE GIRLS AT PLAYA BOWL CHAMBLEE! Wepa!!!!

Yelp
I decided to treat my body right this morning and I prefer fresh fruits for an early morning breakfast. It's a struggle for me when selecting which delicious bowl. My favorites are Electric Mermaid, Nutella and Hemp Bowl. Friendly staff, good relaxing island vibes and beautiful decor brings back every time!

Shawnte D.

Yelp
ehh , it's good but not that flavorful. Beautiful shop though. Nice staff I added a few pictures, check them out.
google avatar

D'Jillisser K.

Yelp
The vibe here does not match the service that I received today. I arrived 430p and they were already shutting down for 5pm. Management needs to update operation hours because it is misleading.
google avatar

Sadie K.

Yelp
The setting of the shop is very brecht and cute. Service was quick and food was delicious.
google avatar

Ishara F.

Yelp
I LOVE THIS PLACE! The Electric Mermaid with extra honey and Nutella is my absolute favorite. There is just something about Playa Bowls that stands out to me more than other smoothie bowl places. I like the fruit and topping choices. I go to both locations and they are equally great. (Think they just opened one in Alpharetta/Milton too?).
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
The service was great and really quick. I was immediately greeted. I ordered the Electric Mermaid Pitaya Bowl, which comes topped with granola, kiwi, pineapple, mango, coconut flakes, and honey. It was delicious!

Yelp
We decided to come here after coming here late last night well after it closed for the day. We were out and about in Doraville, and wanted something light for lunch to take home, so we came here to pick up bowls. The parking lot directly in front of Playa Bowls was full since there are a lot of small businesses sharing the same parking areas, so I had to park in the nearby parking garage. Btw, all of the parking areas in this shopping area are free. Went inside, and there was a short line ahead of us, so it gave us a little time to look at all the menu items listed on the huge board near the entrance. I love coconut, so I was going to pick a bowl with coconut, which allowed me to only focus on a short list of bowls. The smiling employee at the order counter was friendly. I ordered the Coco Power Coconut Bowl, which has raw coconut, banana and coconut milk all smoothly blended with vanilla protein topped with granola, banana, coconut flakes and almond butter. It was nice to see my bowl being made with fresh ingredients. Our bowls were made within five minutes, and the employee put them both in a nice sturdy bag with handles. The store itself is very clean and colorful. The vibe is definitely beachy, with a big breaking wave, an anchor, palm trees, and a huge mermaid with octopus tentacles wrapping around her wrists all painted on the walls in the store. High top tables provide customers eating indoor a place to site and enjoy their bowls and drinks. I immediately opened my bowl after arriving home. Other than the similar colors of the large coconut flakes and the thinly sliced bananas, the bowl had a good presentation. The banana slices were firm enough to hold their shapes, and they didn't have a strong flavor. The coconut flakes were just slightly crunchy (I hate hard coconut flakes that I have to chew awhile). The coconut milk was frozen enough to be creamy and the granola blended well in it. My personal issue that I had with the Coco Power Coconut Bowl was that, by the end, it was getting too sweet for me. Most people wouldn't think that this is a sweet bowl, but I could taste it. I think in the future, I'll probably get a bowl with more fruits in it. There are a whole lot of different types of bowls to try. The prices are on the high side, but I don't come here often, so it's more like a treat.

Yelp
The best açaí bowls in atlanta! Recommend the Pura Vida bowl, and adding any additional fruit of your liking to it. Ambiance is relaxed, go for picking up or there's outdoor seating if it's a nice day
google avatar

Dazziyah M.

Yelp
This place was so pretty!! The pineapples all in the front were so cute to me. *To start off, the menu was so big, very overwhelming! Lol I finally decided to have the Nica bowl. I hate coconut so that divided the menu for me. Bananas, almond milk, and honey seemed good to me! * The texture was very different from anything I've ever had lol, but it wasn't bad! It was very creamy, yet stuck together so well, but not a smoothie... I'd def go back and and try some greens next time! The fruits wire VERY fresh and the granola was very crunchy, with I love. Covid briefly

Yelp
Oh my god, this place is amazing. I love what I chose.  I ordered an electric mermaid that was so fucking good, and what a good employee helped me with.  Thank you, Luz. You should be promoted. 10/10
google avatar

Michael C.

Yelp
Coconut, Açaí, Pitaya, Banana.... The list goes on and on! Build your owns, tons of fruit toppings and drizzles. And always take advantage of their seasonal concoctions!
google avatar

Tammi D.

Yelp
Super cute place, very colorful and fun. It makes you feel like you're at the beach. My boyfriend is a smoothie-holic, and after dinner he really wanted to try their smoothies. He ordered an acai one, and honestly we were both disappointed. Maybe it's what we choose, but the flavor combo wasn't really all that good and it was kind of icy which I don't like. I love that they offer bowls, and I wish we had gotten one of those, but he really wanted a smoothie. Other things they offer here include acai bowls, pitaya bowls, banana bowels, chia pudding bowls, green bowls, coconut bowls, oatmeal bowls...they really do cover a array of good tasting things. And they also have a ntiro bar if you want some tea or coffee. I think we should probably give this place one more chance, but next time I'll get a bowl.

Yelp
Made-to-order superfood bowls - if you're looking for something healthy and refreshing - this is your place. So many permutations too, lol - different base options (you can do 50/50 too), different fruits (strawberry, blueberry, kiwi, banana, pineapple, mango), and granola (gluten-free or none). And your final product will look very pretty and everything in it is super fresh. FYI this review is based on a visit in Feb, before the coronavirus lock-down. LOLA GREEN BOWL - $10 Kale blend (aka smoothie) topped w/ granola, pineapple (except I substituted with strawberries), mango, coconut flakes, and then drizzled with honey. Since we can do a 50/50 base, I also got acai. So yummy! The lady working there did recommend the Power Bowl which has an Acai and Green Bowl base, and comes with banana & peanut butter. Yes their bowls feel expensive for $8-11 but I felt satisfied with the portion, plus they are made-to-order and very fresh. In addition to the superfood bowls, they also have soup of the day which happened to be turkey sausage when we were there. They don't serve poke bowls at this location. FYI parking is available behind the store.

Yelp
OBSESSED! I'm always on the hunt for quality Acai that doesn't cost a stupid amount. The three best things about Playa are 1- the selection and deliciousness 2- the prices 3- the speed of service!!! There's nothing worse than overpaying $12+ for an Acai bowl that's then stingy with the toppings! Playa Bowls is super generous with toppings and not as expensive. I am pretty basic with my selection, so I just got the Acai Primo (mostly berries + acai), but they have sooo many more adventurous options! I am always so impressed by how fast the service is. Even when there's a long line, they normally have mg bowl out in five minutes-- miraculous!
google avatar

Mimi M.

Yelp
the bowls are amazing when you can actually get them. this location is primo but the owner is always closing it EARLY it's ridiculous. If it rains, she closes. If it's cloudy, she closes. If it's sunny, she closes. If the wind blows, she closes. It's such a great location yet the inconsistency with their operating hours has had my family drive out there only to see that they closed at like 2p on a SATURDAY for no damn reason. I'm seriously considering buying a franchise and opening it up nextdoor lol. The owner needs to hand the company over to someone who cares and wants to make profit.
google avatar

Yelp
Finally found then while they were open and feel robbed , my bowl is literally half empty. Explains why they close all early they are giving children portion SMH

Yelp
We discovered this place a few months ago, after I was lamenting over not wanting to get a smoothie from Smoothie King. I was craving something healthy and packed with nutrients, not a sugar-dense attempt at nutrition. Playa Bowls presented the perfect answer to my prayers! Playa Bowls is located in Chamblee, in a plaza right at PIB and Clairmont, near Fudo and Bad Daddy's Burger Bar. There is limited parking in the immediate, uncovered spaces, near all of the shops, but there is also a covered parking garage that you can use that is just a few minutes walk from the shops - all parking is free. Let's start with a few of the drawbacks - their hours appear to be wrong on this listing (they are currently only open 10AM - 7PM), which is a bummer because I often crave a bowl or smoothie for breakfast, first thing in the morning, before they open. The price point is also a bit high, but you are getting quality, fresh ingredients, made right in front of you. I have only ever tried their acai and pitaya bowls - my favorite order is the Electric Mermaid (pitaya base) and adding in strawberry, blueberry and extra granola. My husband and I often treat ourselves to a bowl for a late breakfast or early lunch, on the weekends. It's filling and leaves us feeling energized - a great healthy snack or meal that will give you some extra pep in your step! It's very easy to get your orders to go, or you can stay and dine-in - the shop gives you a feeling of being right on the beach, cute and tropical! We continue to come back for the great service, and the near precision consistency - we have ordered the same bowls time and time again and are always served with the same portions and freshness we expect. We're lifelong playa fans!

Yelp
I LOOOOVE PLAYA BOWLS BUT THROW THE CHAMBLEE LOCATION AWAY! This review is based on customer service as it's extremely hard to mess up a smoothie bowl. The customer service here is HORRID! The time listed on the website is inaccurate for starters. Open at 9am but the site reads 11 so it prevents anyone from making an asap order. I place An order for pick up at 11 but I called in to let them know. The establishment is Pristine clean, which is typical. So I'll offer 2 stars. Unfortunately (wooosah) Upon my arrival, my order isn't ready. The young lady is clueless and claim she can't pull up my order. I show her the receipt and she proceeds to text her manager. I ask if she's going to make my order! No response!!!! WHAT THE (CENSORED) I'm on strict on timing so I ask for a refund. she claims she can't do anything without the manager lol and takes someone else's order!!!! FIRE HER OR SEND ETIQUETTE TRAINING PLS! So I left and made the dispute through my bank. I understand this is a entry level establishment but it needs better organization. Not only did I not receive my order. the little time I did have was filled calling to dispute a freakin 30 dollar order for a green drink smoothie bowl. Seriously?

Yelp
I love this place-- I wish i checked it out sooner! Located on Peachtree Blvd next to Fudo, Playa Bowls offers a wide selection of açai/pitaya/coconut/green/oatmeal bowls, smoothies, juices, and coffee. The employees are friendly and the store itself has a cute, tropical vibe. The first time we went, we got bowls and I really loved the green option for a base-- it was delicious and sweet while not being overpowering. The employees were kind enough to give us a sample of the different base options. The fruit was fresh and they used quality ingredients! The second time I went for a juice, but unfortunately their juicer had broken down. I got a smoothie which was refreshing and I'm excited to go back to try their coffee! Regarding price point, I would say it's fair especially for the quality and good service you will receive. I will be making Playa Bowls my weekly treat!
google avatar

Tatiana R.

Yelp
Bowls are really good. U get a lot for your money. Had a banana base bowl - Costa with Peanut Butter instead of Nutella and added Almonds. It is really cold at first, so that makes it hard to eat. Or maybe my teeth are too sensitive lol
google avatar

Grace L.

Yelp
Star location, I love playa bowls! It's a little pricey but there's a lot of variety in the menu, the service is quick, and this location is situated amongst a nice area in Brookhaven.
google avatar

Mychelle B.

Yelp
Recently visited this location and ordered the Lola. The pineapples were so bitter, it changed the entire taste of the bowl. I explained this to the employee and she said I would have to purchase a new bowl if I didn't like the one I had. I then asked if she would just add blueberries to the bowl and I would dispose of the pineapples. She said I would be required to pay (.50) for the additional topping. I have been to this location 4 times this week and have purchased bowls and smoothies. Never would I imagine that this place would lack basic customer service skills. You'd rather have a customer who has visited your store 4x in one week, never come back vs. replacing a .50 topping?! You can clearly see that these pineapples were not ripe and were very TART. Very disappointed in this experience. Hopefully they will hire experienced adults that have the ability to critically think and make decisions that will benefit the customers as well as the business.

Betzhaira B.

Yelp
I just want to start off by saying this place is amazing. It was my first time here so I didn't know what type of bowls they had, the girl(Dulce) at the front helped me out decide on one. Dulce helped me decide on a Nutella bowl and it was delicious. I will definitely be coming back thanks to Dulce
google avatar

Lisa-Marie N.

Yelp
First off, walking into the store, it had a really nice island vibe! They weren't busy during the time I came thankfully because I took a while just looking at their extensive menu! It was a bit overwhelming! They have a large variety of pre-made bowls and I spent a good 5-10 minutes just looking at the menu because I didn't know what I wanted therefore, I went ahead and customized my own bowl! I'm really glad that they give you that option! The price range for their bowls are pretty expensive for what it is however, I throughly enjoyed my bowl! The fruits were very fresh and the customer service was great and I received my bowl in less than 5 mins from when I ordered it. It came out super quick! I don't think I would come that often but maybe occasionally. The flavors complimented each other well and I like the fact that they allowed me to choose two bases. It's great for a post workout snack! Parking can be a bit difficult though since it's in a smaller plaza with many other businesses.
google avatar

Serena D.

Yelp
Despite the bad reviews I decided to pop by at 2:30 on a Sunday and they are closed. I wouldn't recommend going out of your way to try this restaurant. It's very inconsiderate to not update and/or honor your operating hours. The note on the door said temp hours are M-Sa 10AM - 5PM
google avatar

Linna L.

Yelp
Wow this place is amazing! This is the second location I've been to and it did not disappoint. I got the Pura Vida bowl with Nutella and it was AMAZING! It's so refreshing and it satisfies my sweet touch. I wish there was one near where I lived because I would get one every single day!
google avatar

Rashida D.

Yelp
This used to be one of my favorite places to grab a bowl but here lately they are never open. Online hours says one thing, the door says another. I hope everything is ok but would not recommend right now as you never know when they are open for business.
google avatar

Sha F.

Yelp
I typically make my own açaí bowl and decided to take a break and treat myself. Boy do i regret it. This is what I ordered vs what I got. Such a disappointment.

Alison L.

Yelp
I love playa bowls, but this location is the worst. They have terrible hours and the excuse is that they can't find help. While this may be true, there are plenty of highschoolers and young adults in the area that would probably want a part-time job. Just yesterday I drove up there only to see a sign on their door that they're closed until November 6...really?? And also frustrating is the parking lot and the nerve of people to block others in as they go into the establishment. Worst parking lot ever. I'm sure the owners are very nice people, but they need to Make some changes if they're going to survive.

Robert B.

Yelp
My daughter really enjoys the food but they play the music so loudly you have to shout your order at the server. It's not a one time event but rather consistent and unpleasant.
google avatar

Lisa A.

Yelp
AH-MAY-ZING!!! I came here with my friend for an afternoon treat and I was extremely elated! They have sooooo many options for acai bowls to chia bowls and you can even mix them! They also have smoothies if you're not in the mood for a bowl. I got half acai half chia seed bowl and it came with coconut shavings, pineapple, banana and honey but I decided not to go with the honey I figured it would be sweet enough. It was so refreshing to eat on this Atlanta ... HOT-Lanta summer afternoon. I'm already planning to go back tomorrow to try another bowl. Their combinations are endless and the service is super quick. Since covid is still going on, I really appreciate that this place is cashless and adheres to the CDC guidelines in keeping themselves and their customers safe. I can't wait to come back tomorrow and maybe even the next day to enjoy this amazing and (somewhat) healthy treat!
google avatar

Ryan K.

Yelp
Got the Orange Power Smoothie. Added Banana & Strawberries. It was DELICIOUS. Best smoothie I've had in a very long time.
google avatar

Tandra C.

Yelp
This was a fresh and fun dessert! I tried a combination bowl and my husband did as well! My favorite was the coconut base. The bowl also had pineapple, coconut, kiwi and granola. It was really good and healthy! I want to go back to try some of the other options they have. I think I will try the smoothie or the fresh juice next time!

Shannon Z.

Yelp
The first couple times I ordered from this location everything went well and the order was made correctly. Yesterday, I ordered a bowl, but the portions were way off. The acai was not frozen, there was barely any granola, and much less nutella than normal. Sadly, I don't have picture of it. The other alarming thing was the young boy who made the bowl. He made a farting noise as he added the nutella to the bowl. I was disgusted by this behavior, and at how the other employee just laughed. There seems to be a bigger issue here, and I will be reporting this elsewhere. Do not patronize this location EVER.
google avatar

Taylor H.

Yelp
Playa Bowls offers some refreshing açaí bowl and smoothie options but with less bang for your buck. Smoothies range from $8-$9 depending on your size. They come in either 16 or 20oz cups. The bowls range from $9-$12. The bowls are set up on the menu by the base (chia pudding, banana, oatmeal, açaí, etc). They also have fresh juices. I will give them props for their bowl selection, because they do offer a variety to choose from. I opted for one of their smoothies, The Dang, in the 20z size. It comes with banana, wheatgrass powder, peanut butter, cinnamon, and almond milk. I had a couple of issues with the smoothie - it wasn't blended well and they drizzle the peanut butter on the side of the cup, and it wasn't blended in with the other ingredients. I had some banana chunks in mine, and I figure I can make a better blended smoothie at home. The taste was okay, really heavy on banana but I like banana so I was cool with that. Also, the bowls look great but they don't give you a lot for what you're paying. Parking is free but kind of limited depending on what time you go. They are located in the same retail/residential plaza as Fudo and Chronic Tacos on Peachtree Blvd. The actual restaurant is cute and they have a playful theme going on. Not sure if I'll rush back here though.

Jade D.

Yelp
Love the establishment but this particular location is terrible! Ordered online to pick up a bowl and I get here and it's CLOSED. It's Sunday, 10:20 AM on a beautiful morning so I don't know what's going on. I've seen at least 15 people walk up to the door and it's locked. There isn't anyone inside but the store is taking online orders! This is RIDICULOUS.
google avatar

Shannon B.

Yelp
Their bowls are amazing, a little pricey but so amazing. I was disappointed with this location because there was no care in the preparation of my bowl. It was like they just dump everything in there which provided a lack of the quality presentation you generally see with their bowls.
google avatar

Jasmine A.

Yelp
Ubered here during rush hour to find that they were closed. They close at 5PM, not 8PM.
google avatar

Azriel L.

Yelp
Great açaí bowl, I would visit again because of quality of my order and quick service!
