I’ve been to Playclothes a couple times now, both ending with slightly disappointing experiences. The first time they had a lot of amazing clothes and when I was close to deciding on a cute 70s set that unfortunately did not fit me quite right, either the owner or sales associate offered to take a look at the piece for me to determine if the seam could be let out, but they just took it away and never came back to me with the item. When I was leaving the store, they just looked at me blankly and didn’t even say goodbye. This just made it seem like they were putting it away and had no intentions of checking on the item for me. Today, towards the end of my visit, when I asked if they sold any fabric patterns, they told me they were not available due to the area being occupied/too congested. This was not the problem. The sales associate told me to it would be best to come back in an hour to check out the patterns. When I offhandedly said, “OK, I’ll come back in an hour,” the sales associate sort of just cut me off and Said, “OK sweetheart,“ a little brashly and essentially dismissed me. I would’ve written up the first experience to be a weird one-off, but when I am repeatedly dismissed or not helped at a store, I am quite put off and would not like to return. Please reflect on how you treat your customers.

The variety here is fabulous. But the store is so crowded with merchandise, it is hard to navigate. And it is definitely not handicapped friendly. I was overwhelmed before I got halfway through. But my sister found something to take on her cruise, and a friend found the perfect hat.

Love this shop! Absolutely breathtaking and beautiful interior! Best vintage/thrift shop I have ever been in…Playclothes has every thing you could dream of: beautiful garments/accessories/shoes/jewelry + more from every decade, It’s like a museum!

Google
cool place, really friendly staff, very large selection of vintage clothing and other items. fashion here is not for me, but wanted to check it out and i’m really glad i did

Google
One of the very best vintage stores in the Los Angeles area. Think of it as a museum of fashion where you can buy the exhibits. As soon as you walk in the door, you can see the quality everywhere, including the building itself. A former showroom for fancy architectural molding and wood floors, the space is a wonderland of crown moldings, painting ceilings and chandeliers. It looks like a set designer's idea of a palatial boutique from the past that's as spectacular as its contents. But, the clothes and accessories are also spectacular. If you like vintage, this is truly about as good as it gets. These were high-end clothes (not all designer or couture, but beautiful design and construction). The condition of the items are so good they all tend to look like new! If I hadn't been shopping with a mission for back to school clothes, I could easily have spent hours there--I will go back and do just that. A surprising and delightful place, run by very nice people.

Google
I go to Playclothes at least once a month it is a place that makes me feel good. For me walking in this wonderland of a store is like forgetting all else and walking into a magic place. I love their clothing, accesories and jewelry. The ladies are so very helpful! This is not a thrift store it is high quality true vintage. I am lucky to live close by and go there any time I want to leave this century for an hour or so.

Google
A dream of a store, packed to the gorgeous ceiling with treasures just waiting to be found. Like an apparition, the owner offered her help from between the racks, and when I lamented my vintage tastes and decidedly not vintage sizing, she gently comforted me and led me towards sections that might yield better results. I’ll treasure that interaction, and I look forward to browsing once the Halloween madness has passed.

Google
I had a disappointing experience at this store. When I walked in, I didn’t feel welcomed at all. The staff passed by without offering any help, and I felt ignored. It was particularly frustrating to see them greet and assist a customer of their own race with enthusiasm, while I was left standing there. This kind of treatment is unacceptable and made me feel unwelcome. I won’t be returning.

Yelp
I'm just not happy that you are not open before noon. Walked over way too early. Ended up at the bagel shop and would much rather have invested the money at PCV. Love the two tall cake stands in the window.

Yelp
Literally have NO IDEA what these people are on about in previous reviews. The store is absolutely loaded with gems and the prices are very reasonable considering it's true vintage, and in great condition at that. I am convinced these other people have never shopped for vintage anywhere beyond Goodwill. I also don't understand how you can complain about the volume of items when I found pieces from every decade of the 19th century and again, in wonderful condition. I had no issues with customer service either, as the girls were friendly and obliging.

Yelp
I have been coming to Playclothes for at least 20 years. If you are into vintage fashion expertly curated, this is the place. You will feel like you walked into an old Hollywood movie. It is true glamour, and there are plenty of staff there who will help you find a look and put a look together. I bought accessories from here for evening wear and also for some themed parties - think Mad Men chic. They sometimes have events and fashion shows. It truly feels like the Disneyland of fashion!
google avatar

Jo S.

Yelp
Magnolia Park has the best vintage stores in town in my opinion! Playclothes has been around for a while, but I never had a chance to check it out till recently. If you need a costume for a movie, for a party (themed party), Halloween, look no more! This place has a bit of everything, all organized, per decade, so your search should be easy! They also have fitting rooms, a major plus! OK prices, nice customer service, street parking! Great place to browse, shop at, try things on, it could be a party anytime you want it LOL!

Yelp
The good: some real fun and interesting pieces! I left with something fun and unique. Prices seem fair. The bad: - This place is really disorganized, like.. fire hazard disorganized. Entering the back areas requires walking between precarious narrow paths and walking over clothes and random other knick knacks on the ground. - Employees working at the front (not the ones of the floor, who were friendly) were totally inattentive to me and.. iunno.. slow and lost in the sauce. I'm pretty sensitive to people that treat different people differently.. if you know what I mean. Based on previous comments it looks like I'm not the only one who's noticed this pattern. I was excited to leave with a cool new piece, and I'm still excited to wear it, but how I was treated left a bad taste in my mouth and I'd hesitate to go back for this reason.

Yelp
Playclothes Vintage is a fun vintage clothing store on the west end of Burbank, on Magnolia. Beautiful vintage clothing and accessories are everywhere, as far as the eye can see. Staff is very helpful and lots of fun and all wearing vintage clothing and costume! I came in here to get a roaring 20s dress, and wound up getting a hat, kitten-heeled Mary Janes, , and cigarette holder too. You do not need to shop here only if you are looking for a costume. They are a beautiful clothing of every era. Go for it! Buy something for every day from the '40s or '50s or '60s or '70s! I wear my vintage Maryjanes all the time. my next purchase is going to be a poodle skirt. The best thing about this store is that you will definitely walk out feeling pretty and feeling happy.

Yelp
Do not come here this ladies are rude ... unless you are blonde you get treated really bad. Even if you look like a junkie but you are blonde they are nice. I was carrying 5 k ready to buy but they are so rude every time I'm in there.... There was another Latina in there ... she stayed to buy... I'm out.
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing selection of vintage clothes - love that each era is color coded with tags and notes about the items! I ended up finding the perfect black dress there and there were so many cute options to look through; they do have fitting rooms - which is a bonus - but it may be a bit of a wait for one! The employees were all very kind and helpful when I had questions! Definitely a great spot to check out of your want affordable vintage statement pieces!

Yelp
I always find such amazing pieces here-- everything is so gorgeous!!! Very nice and helpful staff. Wonderful quality vintage store packed with goodies.

Yelp
Way too much stuff packed into one place and smells of old ladies dirty clothes. Staff not very knowledgeable.

Stephan T.

Yelp
Very cool vintage clothes and expert stylist. My with and I needed to set a themed party on fire with our ensembles and the Playclothes staff nailed it

Jazmin P.

Yelp
Everyone there's white and looks like they hate their job, really rude and can't be bothered to help you with anything. Probably just cause I'm Hispanic lol

Yelp
I come to this store every few months to see what they have & there's always something cute for me to buy. I think I'm in my old-lady phase rn because I'm obsessed with handbags lately. I can never get used to the mannequins, though. I get startled everytime!

Yelp
My best friend George (RIP) took me to this place back in 2018. I still thank him from above till this day that he took me here. I'll spend a few hours here every time he took me here. I spent fortunes here too. He knew I was a big fan of vintage. My closet is filled with vintage clothes from fair prices to designer prices. I will pay big time for vintage clothes. My friends all say I have an old soul for one of these reasons. I love vintage cottage core pieces aka granny style clothing, but what can I say? I'm a sucker for these types of clothing. I've bought many things here, and I will continue too. I've bought Brazilian crocodile bags here, vintage bags here, vintage clothes like dresses and blazers. I'm literally obsessed with every item I bought here. They have a variety of clothing here. Vintage coats, vintage dresses, vintage hats, vintage jewelry. They even have some old tv shoes clothing items here brought by the television studios nearby. Every time I come here, as I've said, I can spend 2 hours almost just looking around. They have so many treasures. I wish everything was in my size especially the shoes! I can't forget how many times I've saw a pair of shoes that weren't my size, and I wish I can fit into them! The owner is always so sweet to me also. Her cat also guards the door or the store. It's a quiet cat but she likes to roam around. This one time, I thought it was just a stuff animal but it moved and scared me a little but she is adorable. If you are into vintage items, you will love this store. I tell my friends about them all the time. I hope to be back again one day. I wanna find myself a new dress and shoes. Parking isn't that much a problem. It's street parking but they also have a small back lot parking. Even on busy weekends, we were able to find parking within 10-15 minutes. Happy Shopping!!!!

Yelp
Any day on the Magnolia vintage strip is a good one. There's so many fabulous shops to see but the one I always make sure to visit is Playclothes. They have the biggest selection, reasonable prices, and the sweetest staff! Everything is labeled by decade which I think is just the cutest extra touch. I have gotten many hats, bags, and jewelry from here and they are some of my favorite pieces I have ever owned. The dream is to own a closet full of Playclothes merch!!

Abby P.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place when visiting from NYC and it was a vintage shopper's heaven. So many beautiful vintage dresses and lots of unique trinkets scattered around. Definitely worth stopping by and spending an hour browsing.

Yelp
I've lived in Burbank for over 15 years and always wanted to visit the store. Got the chance to go in today. Wasn't greeted but others behind me were, no one tried to help although I walked through their many isles and got a snotty vibe from the staff and left. Not worth spending my time and money here. Obviously not all clientele is their "type" so I'm not interested in ever visiting again

Yelp
PLAY AROUND WITH VINTAGE FASHION Step into another era at the quixotic vintage fashion store, Playclothes, on the corner of Magnolia and Fairview. Visual delights beckon from every corner of this fantastic mecca. If you're looking for a stellar dress from the 40s, a ball gown from the 50s, some slacks from the 70s, a coat from the 80s and more, stop here first! You'll have to flick through every kind of piece you're searching for as they don't seem to be organized by size. Their remarkable clothes are in great condition, which is reflected in their high prices. Pet the resident cat while you debate about that dazzling $100+ little black outfit. If you're craving something unique, get dressed and go!

Ciara G.

Yelp
Was saddened to see that the selection of Native made jewelry I saw in this store was HIDDEN behind a mannequin. The picture is of AFTER I moved the mannequin out of the way as much as I could.

Yelp
Condescending, unprofessional. I'm looking to sell a few designer items. If you know about resale in Los Angeles, you know that you have to target certain shops because not every vintage or consignment shop will have the same need for the items you plan to sell or consign. I called the shop to inquire about selling in late October. I was told I needed an appointment. When I said I had one item only, I was told I could email "Wanda" at the company website. I sent the email ... silence. The following week I sent a follow-up email in the morning. Half the day went by without any response from Wanda. So I called and asked whether Wanda or someone else at the company had checked my email. I was told they were extremely busy the past few days and that Wanda would respond "later in the evening." Again, no response. Today is Sunday and I believe I spoke to the same sales associate the I spoke to on the two previous occasions. I mentioned the above and was told that they have been doing a lot of moving/reshuffling (as if that's the customer's or prospective seller's problem). I asked, is Wanda now no longer interested in the item? Why would I be directed to email someone who is presumably monitoring the inbox only to be ignored on multiple occasions? I was told condescendingly "I don't know if Wanda changed her mind, only Wanda would know that." Complete lack of professionalism. When I said "I'd like to make an appointment to bring in the item," I was told Wanda likes to see a lot of items, which response thereby stonewalled any efforts at all to have this item seen and assessed. To Wanda/management: Disappointing final phone call, disappointing experience. Do a better job of treating prospective sellers fairly, with respect. I cannot support your business.

Yelp
This is a cute store with great stuff. I got a vintage dress for only $15 & I absolutely love it. The shop's cat, Tigerlily, is a sweetheart. She went on my lap & cuddled with me for a while. I was shocked to find out that she's 17! We must protect her at all costs

Yelp
Halloween is only a few days away and perhaps the majority is ready with their costumes for the awaited trick or treat event. However, for those who procrastinated and still searching for the right costume, head out to this place because most likely, your regular Halloween stores have low stocks by now. Here you will find clothes from all era and generations. Don't fret on searching high and low because the store is very well organized. Clothes are neatly arranged per era for your shopping convenience. The store also carries the perfect accessories to complete your look, purse, shoes, hats, etc. There are dressing rooms provided to try the clothes on. The ladies working in the store are very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful in finding the right stuff for you to stand out in the Halloween crowd. PS. Check out the gorgeous ceiling when you visit.

Yelp
So take these 5 stars with a grain of salt, because I just went here for my first time, and only to buy a $5 scarf box (after calling them the day before to see if they had one). But I couldn't not write this because this place is too cool. The vibe of the store is ridiculously welcoming and it just makes you wanna buy everything in it! I'm not remotely knowledgeable when it comes to vintage clothes, but it seemed like there was a bunch of good-quality funky/different stuff you might not find other places. It isn't all clothes, though, there's also jewelry, ceramics, knickknacks, all that kind of vintage stuff. I looked at some old make-up compacts (something I do know a little about) and their small collection had some really nice pieces. Which makes sense, since the store isn't huge, so they likely decided not to waste any floor space with crap. (it's actually bigger than you think it is, though - an illusion created by how comfortable you feel there) For my little $5 box transaction, I also borrowed some tape and scissors (I brought gift wrap with me), and while doing all that, I ended up talking with three separate employees, ALL of whom were warm and friendly and fantastic. I live 20-ish minutes away, but the next time I need some sort of quirky/cool gift, I will absolutely browse through here again.

Yelp
Once a great vintage staple, now reduced to your average thrift store. I can't believe I was looking through the 40s/50s clothes with my wife only to find half the items were not from that time period but were listed as if they were. Please make sure you know what you're looking at before getting swindled into dropping money on a lie. If you're looking for a thrift spot with plenty of 90s/00s clothes then this is the spot for you. If you're looking for ACTUAL vintage than this is not it. Customer service is also dismal. I'm sad to say after a handful of years I won't be coming here again.

Yelp
Fun shop I found on Yelp as I wanted to check out some vintage shops while visiting Los Angeles. This is more within the Burbank area but man, oh, man is it worth checking out. This shop is very well organized and each article of clothing has the decade it's from and for vintage pieces not only are they priced fair they're in great condition. The team here is passionate and all have an appreciation for the clothing. They told me the owner is actually from New Orleans and throws a Mardi Gras party out in the shop. How cool is that! During our visit the display was Mardi Gras themed and damn those costumes would've been a hit here in New Orleans. I do believe it may be the personal collection of the owner. If you're trying on clothes take an extra few minutes (if time permits) and explore the dressing room. It has so much personality to it and it's a vintage collectors dream. Certain I spent more time looking around the dressing room (it's set up like an actor's dressing room) than I did trying on two pieces of clothes. I actually found a Mardi Gras piece here and can't wait for everyone to see it. Walk around and explore the different rooms there's bound to be something for you. Whether it's a new staple piece for your closet or that special article of clothing for a costume. You're bound to find something here.

Yelp
I used to come to this store religiously, but I think they've fallen quite a bit in my opinion. Their sales associate was quite rude when I went in and while they used to have a lot of the vintage clothes I was interested in, they no longer have the clothes that I am interested in. I used to love the women who worked in here, but it seems that since COVID hit they have changed quite a bit. I'm not sure what happened, but I would say they have about half the amount of clothes they used to. They have a lot of home goods, which are fine, but the title is literally "Playclothes" implying they'd have more clothes than they did. To be honest, if I'm going to get vintage home goods, there are other places I'm going that are far more affordable in price. I'm super disappointed since coming here. Almost any antique store has a better selection than this store. The only difference is they have a (smaller) selection of clothes. As far as the clothing goes, it seems like the quality has also gone downhill. They had nowhere near the same quality or selection they had before, and the decades were far more mixed in. For the record, some of my absolute favorite dresses and skirts came from this establishment, so I am so incredibly disappointed that I am writing this review. I hate to say this, but at this point if you're looking for vintage clothing I'd definitely recommend hitting up other stores or online stores. They seem to be about the same price but with way more selection. Perhaps if they change their store back to what it used to be I would be happy going here, but as of right now, I'll definitely avoid it.

Jackie R.

Yelp
Such a cute place and I will definitely be coming back because they had great clothing. The store was closing in about 30 mins, there were still about 15 people in the store when they shut off all the lights and said they were now closed. I had been shopping and had items in my hand, so I asked if I could still purchase the 5 items and one of the employees just said "nope". The thing that got me was that there was no "Last Call" or warning that they were about to close and to come up with final purchases. They really just kicked everyone out. Lost out on a lot of money I would say. Still coming back, they have good stuff, just a few bad apple employees

Yelp
Accidentally found them while getting art work framed nearby. Walked in figuring "I'll take a few minutes see if there is a stocking stuffer for the wife", walked out a full hour later with a full bag of treasures (someone else's crap, my treasure, that's how it goes with antique shopping). The prices were fair, I mean it's the same with any place, what's it worth to you, what are they asking. I found many items where the price was right. The place was crowded. The interior is fascinating, prior occupants were trim/crown moulding professionals, so the inside was crazy cool molding, paneling, tromp l'oeil work. The personnel working in there were working VERY hard and clearly care. They give a damn, seem interested and like they enjoy working there (perhaps not the crazy rush of business they were experiencing, but they handled it with grace). They had one answer to any request for help, and that answer was to provide help with a smile, and with professionalism. They apologized for any wait, yet one could clearly see they were constantly working to handle any request as fast as possible, any place with employees like this is lucky. I love antiquing and I am adding this to my short list of favorite places.

Yelp
Went out on the night for Food Truck Friday's in Burbank. I have never heard if this so it was nice to walk around and see what Burbank has to offer. Typically during the day, I pass these places but have no clue what types of businesses they are. What a difference nighttime makes! All the stores are lit up and Magnolia comes to life. A ton of cute boutiques, eateries and thrift stores! Even a costume store! I am definitely going to keep this street in mind when I just want to take my time and stroll around.

Karen K.

Yelp
The most beautiful collection of vintage clothes from all decades. We found my daughter's homecoming dress here and also several pieces for halloween costumes
google avatar

Yna T.

Yelp
OMG! This store is so awesome!! So much clothes! It's literally an explosion of great pieces from all the decades. The store feels so homey and the ladies working here are so sweet. All the clothes are separated by type and decade. I like how they organize their items and the tags are so detailed. They really put a lot of thought and care on all their items. Parking is easy and they provide you with sanitizer by the door. I found a mustard jacket in the men's section and I just love it! Bonus tip: find tiger lily snoozing in her corner.

Yelp
An UPDATE from my previous review. I'm not sure if this store has a new owner or what's going on but whatever it is, it's not working. I used to love this place. I've been coming here for 6 years now and always felt they had a wonderful selection. As well as I always thought the women who worked there were truly great. Yet suddenly all of the employees have been replaced with much younger people and the quality of the vintage has gone downhill. The store which used to have a good selection of 1930s-60s seems to only cater to costume pieces from the 70s and "vintage" from the 80s and 90s now. To my surprise I found a men's costume shirt from the show Stranger Things shoved among the vintage items. I miss what this store used to be when it carried quality vintage items, and had staff who knew what they were looking at when you had a question.

Hudson A.

Yelp
Meh there wasn't many selection of flapper dresses and the ones they did have were only in size big such a disappointment. Plus I asked them if I could possibly rent just the props and not dresses since I don't want to be paying the full $80 just for gloves and fake pearls to go with the flapper look they didn't budge....I feel like Amazon is way better bang for your buck you could pay cheaper AND get all the accessories that you need will stick to Amazon or SheIn

Julia K.

Yelp
The worst service hands down, and the quality and selection of their vintage pieces are mediocre.

Jessica T.

Yelp
Fantastic store with great vibe! My boyfriend walked out with a whole 70s outfit. The way it is organized by decade makes it really easy to look through but also discover new things. I would definitely go back to look through more of their unique vintage. Also, the shop cat is so cute and I could spend a whole day snuggling with her!
google avatar

Olivia G.

Yelp
This is fun store. They have a lot of costume and time piece costumes. I got some unique dresses here in the past. I didn't give it five stars bc I don't think the prices are great, but it's still a fun experience to visit. They have a cute cat that walks around. Less musty overall than most vintage.

Yelp
So the story goes...I arrived in search of a dress for a prom-themed party. My only inspiration was Andie (Molly Ringwald) from PRETTY IN PINK. I told this to the sales lady who directed me to the 80s racks. She was attentive, but not overbearing. When she left me to browse in solitude, it only took me about 30 seconds to locate the perfect dress: a black/lavender, lace/tulle, ankle-length, strapless Betsey Johnson. After trying it on, I revealed the look to the sales ladies who all applauded my choice sincerely. One suggested I get some black, finger-less lace gloves and a tiara to accessorize, so after making my purchase I skipped across the street to the Halloween store to complete my look. A note on sizing, which I hear can be complicated here...my dress is technically a 4, but I typically wear a 6. It fits like a glove. Just try it on...but don't force it! I didn't go to my high school prom, and I couldn't have imagined a more magical dress! This Saturday will be a night to remember...thank you Playclothes!

Yelp
I love this place. In all honesty, I've bought very little here, but even if you don't buy, it's a delight to walk through all the little rooms. It's like browsing through your grandmother's closet or your grandparent's attic, full of awesome vintage clothes and kitchenware and odds and ends and kind of creepy mannequins. It always makes me want to film a period piece or dress characters. You never know what treasures you'll find. (Photo is of their gorgeous ceiling)

Ashley S.

Yelp
I used to love playclothes, and I would always buy something. Friday, I was in the area and thought I would stop by. The sign said they opened at 11am, but actually they didn't open until 20 minutes later. It was so hot outside, and I could see employees inside. The least they could do is to walk over and tell me that there was a employee meeting. Walked in, and everything was so disorganized and cluttered. I literally found noting of interest which sucks because I wanted to buy something.

Yelp
This place is BY FAR the best vintage clothing store I have ever been to. The clothes are beautifully organized and tagged by decade and the prices are very reasonable. Moreover, the dressing room areas are absolutely perfect and spacious. This place is truly like stepping back in time and doing some wonderful shopping. Staff here are very friendly--as is the sleepy kitty who was napping by the register. This store is very clean and tidy, not to mention filled with vintage treasures.

Yelp
Great selection of Halloween costumes retail and for rent. I understand it's Halloween and busy season but the middleaged Caucasian doorman is rude AF and not helpful. Don't work in customer service if you don't want to help people.

Yelp
Love the store in general but the staff is unwelcoming. Doesn't seem like they want to help people.

Ive died and gone to vintage heaven people! I'm a curvy gal and they have choices for me. If you love vintage like me, you know how rare that is. They have every shape and size in some amazing, rare and unique vintage clothing and accessories. I even got a never been used pack of Bobby pins from 1951 for $2! If you're in the area and have a hankering for vintage treasures, this is an absolute must. Plus all the ladies working there are gems.

Yelp
There is SO much to look at in this store. It's bursting with excess! The stock is 95% catered to females, but there is a solid small section for men's clothing. Even if I don't buy anything here, I have a great time looking around and soaking up the sense of place this store invokes so well.

Yelp
I love this shop. It's like walking back in time and there's a friendly cat here! This place is heaven. I could have very easily spent all afternoon here but I was with other ladies who were anxious for lunch so I did a quick scan of the store. I found my absolute DREAM of a skirt: red felt circle skirt from the 1950's with a snowman on it with "Merry Christmas and Happy New Year" embroidered on it. Golly it's just like I was meant to have it and it fits me like a glove. I'm sure it's handmade! I also got a black wool skirt that fits like a dream. They have all sorts of clothes in so many sizes and decades that I couldn't even conceptualize this perfection of a store. I gotta come back here alone so I can peruse at leisure!

Yelp
What a treasure of a place full of so many jewels! Whether you like vintage clothing, need a costume, or just want an entertaining experience, this is the place! Cleverly curated items keep me coming back to see what's new! Well organized and decorated too!

Yelp
This place is amazing. So unique!!! It is worth going in just to get inspired by the displays and the amazing collection of antiques and vintage clothes. Amazing for period costumes, daily vintage fashion and accessories. Men's section is a smaller portion of the store BUT has a lot of really unique and hard-to-find items. Prices are fair and mostly in the same price range. The staff is very helpful, they can help you create looks, match and pair items, and allow you try things on. A great local business to support.
