LA City Attorney Targets Hollywood Club With 40 Criminal Charges, Including After Hours Alcohol Service | Eater LA

"This Hollywood nightclub has been hit with 40 criminal charges following a ten-month multi-agency investigation by the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control, LA Department of Building and Safety, LA Planning Department and LAPD. Authorities allege after-hours alcohol sales, over-serving visibly intoxicated customers and inadequate security, and trace the focus to a New Year’s Day 2018 shooting in which a patron was shot in the leg in front of the club; officers say they found the venue still serving alcohol well past the mandated 2 a.m. last call. Other incidents cited include an October 25 discovery of an underage patron leaving with an unregistered firearm, three reported alcohol-induced sexual assaults between May and October (one victim was 20 at the time), multiple permit and criminal violations found during seven official visits in 2018, and a rash of reported crime—including thefts, armed robberies, assaults and a 20-person brawl that ended with a shooting on October 2, 2018. Regulators warned owners repeatedly to add more security guards, lock unguarded doors and stop serving intoxicated patrons. In response, the club’s representative said Playhouse has been open since 2009, employs over 25 security guards and provides a safe environment; the statement claims the issues began after LAPD demanded the club stop playing Hip Hop and Latin music, contends many incidents occurred outside the facility in parking lots not controlled by the club, says the December 28 filings were driven by statute of limitations rather than safety concerns, and alleges the club is being targeted and potentially racially profiled." - Mona Holmes

We been there last night for the Mambo craze Cabaret show. It's very low quality show, don't waste your time and money. The bar uses the cheapest alcohol for cocktails and charge over $30 per drink.

I took my cousin and her friends here for her bday Saturday night and overall we had a great time. Amazing music selection & DJ, the lights, & the whole club setting was amazing. The guest list is bogus though!!! I put our group on two different guest list and was in line early at 10pm and did not get in free or discounted. Also, they overcharged me for my drinks. I bought two long islands that were 16$ on the receipt but when I checked my bank statement, I was charged 20$!!!!! Smh. The dance floor was extremely crowded it was difficult to really dance but we still made the best out of it. I will be open to come back, but I wouldn't suggest throwing your party here unless you purchase a table. Also the bouncers can be pretty rude. One bouncer guy literally grabbed me from behind forcefully to get me out his way which was unnecessary.

This was my first and LAST TIME EVER attending this place!!! I guess I should have read the reviews prior to using my debit card.... $42.00 with no tip on the card is what I agreed to. A cash tip of $10.00 is what I gave to the bartender and yet I was charged $50.40 on my card. Really Really???? Very sad. If they can give you a receipt for the correct amount then go back and charge you a different amount, anyone who uses their card should also be concerned about identity theft.

My friends and I came here as part of the Hollywood club crawl so I'm not sure if there was a hefty cover but I wouldn't doubt it. There is quite a bit of security before they will even let you in. When we got in around 10:30-11 it wasn't busy at all, we were the first ones there. We decided to order a drink- just a vodka mixer which they charged a price of $15! The set up of the club was actually really neat- there are booths that line the walls and dance floor and paintings of celebs on the walls. I found those really awesome but overall I just wasn't all that impressed with this club. If i could have afforded to get wasted so I could forget about how expensive the drinks were then maybe I would have had more fun but I really don't care to come back here.

DO NOT pay with a debit or credit card for cover/admission. I paid with card, signed the slip and confirmed in writing to pay the amount agreed upon. Today however, I see on my bank account I was overcharged $5. I had elected to put no tip on the receipt slip. I don't know if someone after the fact elected to put down a tip for me... I wondered if anyone else has had this issue and what the source of this problem really was. If anyone has any information or has had this happened to them please let me know what you did to resolve the issue. Thanks!

They charge $60 cover charge for men and $40 for women. I went out with a group with both and we decided not to go due to the high cover charge. Thankfully across the street there was an array of fun bars to attend so the night ended rather splendid.

Good atmosphere and music, terrible bar service from the ladies working the counter. Was charged $20 dollars for a mediocre vodka/redbull drink, and was originally told $17 dollars until I paid to find a different amount. Teach these women better social communication skills as well, lady was very rude just to ask for a drink.

I went with my friends visiting from Maryland, we were 2 guys and 2 girls, (blacks) and we were at Play House early to make sure we get in, so we were on the front of the line. We waited for 45 minutes on the line and we were never attended to. I went to speak to one of the guys, and all they said is pay me $$ (a pretty high amount) and we'll let you and your friends in, but then you would have to pay cover too. This is really stupid and I'm definitely not recommending this place to people because i felt it was a racial reason why we were left waiting.
