Unfortunately, several serious issues occurred that have left us extremely disappointed and concerned.
First, we paid specifically for a garden-view room, which we did not receive. This is a basic issue of not delivering what was advertised and paid for.
Second, we experienced what I believe to be clear discriminatory treatment at the Corrine. We had dinner reservations for 8:45 PM at the Towers of Americas. It was 8:00 PM so we headed to Corrine with the intention of having a drink beforehand. My husband attempted to get the attention of the bartender, Justin, and walked from one end of the bar to the other twice because he was being ignored. When Justin finally acknowledged him, my husband was told to wait—even though Justin was no longer serving anyone else at the bar and everyone already had their drinks.
While my husband was waiting, an Anglo couple approached the bar. Before they were even fully at the bar, Justin immediately asked them what they wanted to drink. The gentleman from that couple informed Justin that my husband (wearing a cowboy hat) had been waiting and was there first. Justin dismissed this entirely and proceeded to ask again what he wanted to drink. The gentleman again told him my husband was there first.
There was no reasonable explanation for this behavior. The only conclusion I could draw was that my husband was deliberately ignored due to racial bias. This was humiliating, upsetting, and completely unacceptable. Racism of any kind should never be tolerated, especially in an establishment that serves the public.
Lastly, we were charged twice for our stay. After returning home, I noticed an additional $200 charge on my statement. I called that same night and was instructed to call again in the morning. At 9:00 AM, I spoke with Israel, the manager, who stated he would resolve the issue by the end of the day. While charging my card was done quickly, the refund process has not been handled with the same urgency.
Due to these combined experiences—failure to provide the room we paid for, discriminatory treatment, and billing errors—I would not recommend this hotel.
