The Essential Montreal Croissants - Eater Montreal

"This charming bakery located in the Golden Square Mile is an attraction for travellers and townsfolk alike, coming in for soft croissants and staying for an accompanying espresso. Between this location and its second, there's more than enough to go around." - Heather Vandenengel, JP Karwacki

A delightful, crispy, freshly baked croissant with delicate notes of butter -just the way it should be. A pain au chocolat that melts in your mouth, with a crunchy crust and a cloud-soft inside. And the baguette!!! Oh, the baguette! One could talk about it forever, but it’s easier-you simply have to try it. I love the atmosphere of this café -it feels as if you’ve stepped back in time, to Paris, onto a little street where the morning air is filled with the smell of fresh bread, music, and the warmth of a welcoming host.

Small, local business with tons of amazing food and even more amazing staff! Everything is made fresh and warm in-house with a stone oven, and presented in a nice manner. I would recommend the brioche buns and the brie paninis, they just melt in your mouth! The staff is hardworking, very friendly and willing to help you all the time. Merci beaucoup, Plougastel!

Plougastel Boulangerie-Pâtisserie. Impossible to pass by without feeling the hypnotic perfume of fresh-baked bread, and the baker puts a lot of love into his recipes at the most superb French-style bakery. I highly recommend it for a memorable experience!

Small and cozy bakery. I visited a couple times around 10 am on weekdays and things were either out or running pretty low, so get there early for the best selection! The owner is really friendly and even recommended that I had to reheat one of the items to eat it at its best since I was taking it to-go, so you know this place puts a lot of care into what they make. I got the bretonne framboise, the brioche, and the chocolatine. Bretonne framboise: Really delicious. The raspberries in it were plentiful and delicious, and it had a nice crust outside and crumbly but buttery interior. Chocolatine: The outside was wonderfully crispy and flaky, and the inside was soft, though I wish it were a bit more airy. There was an abundant amount of chocolate though, and the chocolate itself was top-notch, semi-sweet and really smooth. Brioche: I can't get over how GOOD this brioche was. Unbelievably soft and fluffy with a rich, buttery taste, and it had these crispy strips on top that added a great texture. This might just linger in my memory forever. Highly recommend getting this if you can only get one thing from here. I loved everything I got! Would absolutely get their other things if I can get there early enough.

Amazing place and amazing people. The owner is such a lovely person and so are his sons who help him run the place. Very polite and trusting people. Very tasty and fresh bread. Variety of pastries and sweets like fruit tarts. the chocolatine is GREAT😭💕💕😫😫. The bread is sooo good. Literally in love with this place. They also have sandwiches and soup of the day options but I haven’t had the opportunity to try those yet. 100/10

In a recent visit to Montreal my partner and I stopped in at this bakery to find some croissants. What we found was much more though. The man behind the counter, regretfully I did not catch his name, was an absolute joy. My French is terrible, I wouldn't even call it passable, however he spoke to us both with so much patience and helped us get through the basics of our order and provided tips on proper pronunciation along the way. Our food was incredible and we knew we'd be back the next day. The second day we arrived he jokenly said (I think) "all in French today?" With a smile on his face. Again he was so warm, inviting and patient with us both. When we told him we were leaving Montreal and heading to Quebec he offered us a parting gift, a baguette, and wished us a safe journey. A thoughtful gesture that we both very much appreciated. Our food, drinks, AND experience both days were incredible. If you're in Montreal, stop by this bakery, you won't be disappointed. Merci poulet voyage 😉

Friendly service, best croissants I've ever had in the city. I walked in like an idiot tourist who totally missed the unlit Open sign on the window, only to find a shop keeper behind the counter, working. He greeted me warmly and graciously acted as if I hadn't just interrupted him. We had a pleasant and short exchange and he even gave me some French lessons. They were definitely one of the best I've ever had. Thank you, Plougastel, for giving me a perfect ending to my visit to your beautiful city.

Google
The Croissants were amazing! Nothing beats a freshly baked croissant 🤤 so happy to have found this little Cafe around the corner from our hotel. Strong coffee, friendly owner, we also tried some of the fresh bread which was also delicious!

Yelp
Great way to start a day in Montreal. Viennoisie (croissant etc), great coffee. Local place with a very friendly owner (and locals).

Yelp
Delicious coffee, fabulous pastries all made in house. They don't take credit cards, only debit and cash.

Yelp
Absolutely terrible lattes. Extremely watered down and you could bare taste the coffee. The tastes are similar to lattes from self-serving machines at gas stations. Also a warning to US tourist - this place is CASH ONLY. We didn't have CAD and they told us they take USD. We were charged the same amount in USD and got our change back in CAD. Due to conservation rate, we lost -$5

Yelp
To be honest, in such a fancy area I expected way more. The pastries look terrible, sandwiches too, and the inside isn't anything to talk about. Première Moisson blows this place out of the water, and that's shocking.

Yelp
This was a quick visit. The place was busy. One person working keeping pace with everyone. Was very nice and helpful with what I needed. I was wrestling with the Canadian currency and he kindly assisted me with figuring it out. His attitude was great - I gladly tipped him $5 USA on a six dollar(cd) order. The look on his face was priceless. It was very busy and his customer service was on point. The cappuccino he nailed it with a thick milky frost to top it off and a nice slightly warmed chocolate pastry was the perfect compliment- fluffy, flaky shell crust that melted in my mouth. The chocolate was rich but so sweet that it supdued the bitterness of the cappuccino perfectly. The place has a big reputation as being top notch. It came highly recommended by the hotel. After tasting the pastry I had, I can easily see how they earned their reputation.

Yelp
Disappointed all around not much I can say didn't like that they don't take credit card I don't think they bake anything they sell I could be wrong tho. To me it was no different then eating McDonald's or Tim Hortons pastries I was just expecting to much probably.

Yelp
You may not have noticed this little bakery on the corner, but you really have to get in and try the pastries with a well-balanced espresso, French brew.

Yelp
Really convenient and good. They have almond milk as their alternative milk. The chicken panini was hot toasted and delicious. They don't take American debit cards or credit cards, so I went across the street to the bank to withdraw cash. Service is slow when busy, because there's just one person working. She's super friendly and efficient.

Yelp
Latte' was done well. Poir Almondine didn't taste like much of anything. It's supposed to be a pear frangipani tarte. Chocolate Beule was okay. Does it get a pass because it's rustic? No.

Yelp
A wonderful little bakery in the Golden Square mile. Everything is delicious and fresh, and the staff is very friendly. Highly recommend.
