In this area, it is great to find a local independent "real deal" barista spot. After two visits, I have been very satisfied so far. Make sure to get a punch card.
As you enter, this place can easily get very busy very quickly with a very narrow cafe. It's a pretty utilitarian interior design. It is welcoming and has a few tables. It is very clean and well maintained.
Service was friendly. These coffees are not cheap but it is definitely about quality. The Chai latte was very nicely prepared. I am looking forward to trying a Nitro Brew on my next visit.
Finally, the cafe uses the Bloomingdale name for the neighborhood. There are so many micro neighborhoods in NYC.
Here is a little more info about the Bloomingdale Neighborhood name which was prepared by a local history group that I have worked with. This write up is courtesy of Gil Tauber. Thanks Gil.
"As a place name, "Bloomingdale" first appears in public records in 1688 but was probably in use much earlier. The Dutch colonists of New Amsterdam may have adopted the name by
geographical analogy, since the Dutch town of Bloemendaal (which means "vale of flowers") is northwest of Amsterdam and a few miles west of Haarlem. Bloomingdale is now a name for the blocks from 96th to 110th Streets between Central Park and the Hudson River, but it once denoted a much larger area of Manhattan Island."
Needless to say, this cafe is great addition to the neighborhood. Can't wait to go back.
