Chef-Backed Chicken Restaurant Premieres in Carlsbad - Eater San Diego

"A brand new eatery with a menu based on all things chicken will launch this Saturday, September 21 at The Shoppes in Carlsbad. Pluck is the latest project from chef Sam Marvin, who spent five years at Las Vegas classic Piero’s Italian Cuisine before moving to Los Angeles to open Modada on Melrose and downtown’s landmark Bottega Louie; he currently runs Echo & Rig Butcher and Steakhouse in Las Vegas and Sacramento. Pluck is Marvin’s first foray into the fast-casual market, where he joins San Diego’s own Richard Blais (The Crack Shack) and Flavortown’s Guy Fieri (Chicken Guy!) in the business of chef-backed chicken concepts. Pluck’s grand aim is to disrupt the commercial chicken industry and poultry production practices by spotlighting pasture-raised birds and offering the premium chicken at accessible prices. Its menu features fried chicken served by the piece, a chicken burger, a sandwiches ranging from a banh mi-riff filled with rotisserie chicken, pickled vegetables, and pate to a twist on a traditional Italian pork sandwich made with a pounded chicken paillard, garlic sauce, broccoli rabe, and provolone. There’s also house bone broth and a host of sides that include roasted farmer’s market vegetables, fried chicken skins, and slaw with buttermilk-chive dressing. Dessert is soft-serve Greek frozen yogurt, in flavors like salted caramel and milk chocolate with sea salt. Situated at the southern end of the mall near Yard House. Pluck at The Shoppes at Carlsbad will be open from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; the team is reportedly planning on a rapid expansion following this debut and is actively looking for additional locations." - Candice Woo

Service was fast and friendly. Grilled veggies were cold, I didnt end up eating them. Chicken is different that what you are use to, a little thicker and more chewy coating. Flavor was great.

I’m not sure why their reviews are so low but I love this place ! I got fried chicken skins w/ this amazing sweet syrup ( I ate them before I took a pic) , rotisserie chicken w/fries and the woman brought me bone broth too! Truthfully the rotisserie chicken was the complete opposite of dry (as you can see) . All my food was piping hot and I think it all had very good flavor . My meal matched its price so I urge people to maybe give it another try. It takes businesses some time to get in the swing of things sometimes but I’d say they’re doing great! They’ve got my business ❤️ Plus the woman who helped me is super sweet and was more than willing to help me decide when I changed my mind a million times.

Google
Really nice and juicy chicken. Tried a couple sandwiches and they have some great flavor and the buns are really soft.

Google
Insanely expensive, $4 markup on UberEats. Almost no meat in the $13 sandwich. Update: tasteless.

Really good chicken, not a lot of options but the flavor makes up for that. It’s one of my favorite restaurants to visit, and the employees are very kind every time I go. The only major issue I encounter here, is that they only take credit card. I strongly suggest that they accept cash as well. Overall a good environment, and good service.

This place is 1 of the best-tasting chicken restaurants I have ever been to! (And I have tried a lot and the best.) I have come back here 3 times now the past 3 months, and everytime its amazing and the same great. The staff is really nice, the place is really clean, and I get the exact same 3 items that I am in love with every time that taste soo good! The chef's very own Chicken-Pot-Pie Fries (super flavorful and large and exactly what it says: homemade gravy poured over deliciously-soft boiled chicken chunks with vegetables on top of deliciously-spiced & seasoned fries), The Bone Marrow Broth (supposedly very good for you in Vitamins & Minerals, and tastes great just like a soup!) and the OliveOil SeaSalt Greek IceCream-like yogurt to top all off as dessert. Soo good! Everything here is. I even tried the Chicken Sandwhich like a Bahn-mi (I think its called SpitJack) and a Salad one time To-Go to try when I got home, and they were delicious too. I feel you get what you pay for in life, and this place tastes GREAT and is really fairly priced (not mcd's cheap or low quality, and not over-priced or a rip-off.) You get Large Quantities with Great Quality with really flavorable food & flavor profiles.) Order and start with those 3 I recommend. Or maybe I'm just crazy if you don't like them.

Google
Not great, the southern fried sandwich just lacked flavor and was very bland. For the price you expect a great sandwhich but we left with a bad taste in our mouths. Wouldn't recommend this place and it's a shame for such a great location.

Google
I dont know what to say. The price vs the taste ? Not match. Rotisserie suppose to be roasted. But this seems like fried. The taste honestly just salt and pepper. Garlic a bit too much and raw.

Yelp
So so good. I got the tenders and the chicken is so crispy and juicy at the same time. The potato wedges were amazing and the sauce is good too. Everything is packed with flavor. If you like spicy food go here!

Kamron J.

Yelp
The restaurant has really good service, the food comes out fast, it's fresh, the ambience is really warm and welcoming. One thing I wish was different is you should get one sauce per tender because one sauce cup does not fit a 2-3 tender meal.

Yelp
The OG chicken sandwich here won the work spicy chicken sandwich contest. Excellent! I need to add more words to let you know how good it is. The brevity above speaks for itself so ironically I will say it again. The OG chicken sandwich here won the work spicy chicken sandwich contest. Excellent! - try bonfire

Yelp
First timers here! I've always heard good things about The Red Chickz, but when my good friend recommended this place to me, I asked "So is Dave's Chicken better or this place?" She said hands down, "Red Chickz is so much better!" So I said BET, and decided to try this place while being in the area. When me and my fiance walked in, we were greeted right away by this gentleman. He asked us, "Is this your first time here?" We both said yes and he proceeded to go over the WHOLE menu with us. Including the favorites, the spiciness level, and even the combinations of sandwiches and sides. We thanked him for going in depth & we hit it off by conversing about the spiciness level. We were stuck in between the Spark and Bonfire. We laughed a bit and he really liked us, so when we checked out; he wanted to introduce himself to us. You were awesome, Mark! The ambiance inside is spacious and clean, with the beautiful Carlsbad fresh air breezing through the restaurant. Mark was sitting next to our table training another employee I believe and all I said was "Ooh it's a little chilly in here." Mid conversation, he overhead me and offered to close one of the doors for me! Caught in shock, of course I told him no because I don't want one minor inconvenience to affect the whole restaurant. He double checked & asked "Are you sure?" I work in Hospitality so for him to listen to a customer and SERVE us with a big heart went a long way. The food didn't miss, it was phenomenal & yummy! We both got the Original Chickz Sandwich with Spark spiciness level and cheese curds on the side. One cheese curd with Bonfire and one with Spark. The fried chicken was cooked with perfectly crunchy breading and the sandwiches were so much bigger than most fried chicken places. To say the least, it was the best chicken sandwich I've ever had & I will be back because now I'm craving their sandwiches again. AGAIN, Mark was awesome! He went above & beyond and his customer service does not go unnoticed.

Yelp
We were greeted right away. Customer service was on point and really helpful. We were the only ones there as they just opened. Honestly, that's the only reason for the second star. An employee was being trained so the ordering process took a little longer than I cared for. As first time visitors, sometimes a whole spiel of the menu isn't necessary, although I appreciate the effort to provide information. They could always just say, "we can answer any questions you may have" and leave it at that. When ringing up our order, we had to stand there waiting for the employee to explain how the register worked to the trainee. IMO, training is best when the trainee can observe and ask questions as needed. Making customers wait for their transaction to complete to do so means you don't care for the customer. Food for thought... We get our drinks and sit down. And wait. And wait. 20 mins later, our food comes out. 20 mins! We are literally the only customers in the dining room. We ordered two original sandwiches. Not sure what the delay was but they knew it took a long time because they threw in extra sauces "for our trouble". The food was ok, leaning toward the dry side. We were hungry, so we ate it. The sauces weren't good enough to save the sandwiches. By the end of our meal, my husband got grossed out with all the dry powdered seasoning on the chicken. The chicken was crispy but like I said earlier, it was dry. The coleslaw was very bland. Throw in some celery seed or some pepper! The portions are average. Not too big that I can't finish it and not too small where I feel ripped off. As we sat waiting for our food, we see a delivery guy wheeling by boxes of frozen items to the restaurant. The battered cheese curds come premade and frozen. Most restaurants do this as well, but how hard is it to make these fresh? We don't want a repeat of today's visit, so we won't be back.

Yelp
Food is consistently great. I always come here either before or after seeing a movie next door. One thing I want to highlight here is just how much the owner cares about this place! Tonight I ordered a beer with my hot chicken (the best combination in the whole world) and I happened to be the last pour on the keg. Beer came out all foam and went flat quickly. No problem, I just brought it back up to the counter to let them know. The young woman at the register instantly said "oh, no problem! Sorry about that." And grabbed a cup and poured a new one. You LOVE TO SEE an employee who has the authority to make a quick decision like that. I know from my own experience working in restaurants and all sorts of jobs that that sense of autonomy trickles down from management. Employees either feel empowered to solve a quick problem or they fear they'll get in trouble (or that the rules are so ridged, they freeze and escalate even small issues.) Anyway, keep it up y'all! Not just the great chicken but the good vibes that come from engaged employees with a customer service mindset. We feel it on the other side of the register.

Yelp
After my first review the owner seemed to really want to keep us as customers and his response made me feel very valued as a customer which is HUGE to me. Don't care about the food is the service is terrible. This place has it all. Great customer service and great food! We love it. You can't go wrong. I can't even imagine a negative review. Food always perfectly hits the spot and consistent in flavors and textures. Now that I got to try the sauces I did not care for the comeback sauce. The ranch however was good. I don't know if it's housemade but it tasted like it was and served in a plastic cup. I got the waffle this time which I don't recommend for takeout as the waffle was soggy by the time I ate it. I will stick with the French toast or try one of the sandwich's on our next visit. The toast and waffles came with honey butter which made it really rich and heavy.

Yelp
Red Chickz is probably my favorite spicy chicken place to date. I've been twice already! Their batter is crunchy and chicken is juicy. Their honey butter chicken is a must get item. Their cheese curds, chicken salad, and potato wedges were also yummy. I loved everything I tried because it's all so flavorful! I can't wait to come back when the cravings hit again.

Yelp
More hot chicken? That's my jam so best believe I'll be there. Arrived Saturday evening to just a few customers dining in. It felt as if we just missed a rush. The dining room was a bit messy and sun was beaming in. Cashier looked to have needed a break . Went over the menu but stuck to the basics. Tenders, fries and the cheese curds. We did one order of strips in medium and one in bonfire with bonfire curds. Everything came out quick and piping hot. The chicken was crunchy and the bonfire heat had me sweating. It seemed like a big jump in heat from medium to hot ( bonfire ). This chicken is more like a hot sauce hot and others are more spice oriented.Everything was very great. The wedge fries were better than normal fries. The cheese curds were crunchy and the bonfire heat kicked them up a notch. Will be back to try some of their specialty items next. That's a plus compared to the other hot chicken places in the area. Items such as chicken and waffles, French toast, cauliflower items, shrimp and even shakes. Definitely not the norm. One suggestion I'd make is to get some better napkins. We're eating hot chicken and gas station bathroom napkins don't cut it. Keep the dining room in order more and maybe tint on the windows. Also loved the ketchup packets. Didn't see who packaged it.

Yelp
Red Chickz quickly became a favorite after our first taste at a Yelp event. The crunchiness and flavor of their chicken had us hooked from the get-go! In fact, we've found ourselves making multiple trips to their Carlsbad location this month alone. The chicken at Red Chickz boasts the perfect combination of crunch and flavor that keeps us coming back for more. While the ambiance may be more fast-food joint, the service has consistently been friendly and attentive, so far. And let's not forget about the milkshake! Checking in on Yelp earned me a milkshake that absolutely made my day. It's just one more reason to love this place!

Yelp
I never understood the Popeye's Spicy Chicken Sandwich craze. I had four or five before deciding as fond as I am of Popeye's fried chicken (and red beans and rice) there's nothing terribly special about their sandwich. these days pretty much every place that sells burgers or anything meaty on a bun or between two slices of bread has added a spicy chicken sandwich to the menu, and I prefer KFC and the Jack in the Box's versions to Popeye's. additionally, the hot chicken sandwich craze spawned a slew of "featured menu item" imitators: Main Chick Hot Chicken, Angry Chickz, Dave's Hot Chicken, and Bad Mutha Clucka all of which open shops in the neighborhood. none are very good. in that niche, it's not close: RED CHICKZ should be your spicy chicken sandwich of choice by a country mile. though I'd confess to preferring Cross Street Chicken (Carlsbad location's closed and Mira Mesa's a drive) or the Crack Shack's (Encinitas) sandwiches (both restaurants are, in fairness, on the fast casual rather than fast food end of the spectrum AND sell beer) but still pretty darn good. Service was outstanding. A+

Yelp
Super crunchy, flavorful chicken! Portions are really huge and generous. I would have been fine with just one tender instead of two! I liked the cauliflower too. Size wise it is more of an entree in itself, than a side! We like the regular ranch sauce the best. Lots of seating inside. Located right next to the Sephora. Food does come out a little slow, but it comes out nice and fresh. They have different spice levels, so it would be great for kids too.

Yelp
My sister, son, and I stopped by on a Saturday night about an hour before closing. We were greeted quickly and the menu was explained to us. I ordered a 3 piece tender with wedges with Spark spice level and my son a 2 tender with wedges with a Glow spice level. We also ordered drinks which I was very happy it was coke products. My sister ordered the 3 tenders with wedges with Spark spice level as well and also the corn ribs with Spark. Our food was done in about 5 minutes. The first thing I noticed is the tenders are large. I'm a big eater and I was only able to eat one tender with my wedges and about 3 corn ribs. The tenders were very juicy and very crispy. Honestly they were some of the best tenders I've had in a long time. My son loved his and even at my leftovers the next day. What surprised me the most is we reheated them in the microwave and they were still crispy! The corn ribs were the best thing I ate. Next time I think I would order those as my meal. They are extremely addicting and unlike anything I've ever had. I will come back just for those. I really appreciate the many spice levels. I like a good amount of heat, but want flavor also, not just pain. I was able to pick a heat that was flavorful and had some heat. I would probably go one level up on the next round though. My son who likes mild spice levels and preferred the Spark to the Glow. My son was already begging to come back on Sunday so this will definitely be somewhere we come again. BTW, the food was great, but the staff were just as friendly and helpful!

Yelp
Great people with good energy and service. Their food is always on point! I promise you won't ever go back to Dave's chicken after trying Red Chickz even their cauliflower sandwich is fire ‍

Yelp
The loaded fries are super good we tried the cheese curds and the chicken sandwich. Everything was delicious. Service was fast and easy. The ambiance was great.

Yelp
Crunchy skin, juicy chicken, and very good sandwiches. Each sandwich comes with a side of potato wedges or coleslaw. You hardly ever see potato wedges anymore but the ones here are heavily seasoned and very good. You choose your preferred heat/spice level. I ordered my Original sandwich "bonfire" which supposedly means "hot." It was spicy but I definitely could have gotten the next spice level up. Little cups of sauce here cost 50 cents each. I tried the "Comeback" sauce and the honey mustard sauce and they were both fine. Each tiny cup was barely half full. Charging for sauce is nickel and diming. Chick-fil-A has excellent sauces and they'll give you fifty of them for free if you ask. Skip the sauces here entirely. They are not worth it. Solid chicken sandwiches and surprisingly good potato wedges. Good service, too. Free parking in the mall lot.

Yelp
First off, beautiful entrance, large windows, plenty of seating inside and outside. Located at the Carlsbad mall. Plenty of parking. Just walking up to the restaurant there were all sorts of people inside enjoying themselves, as the alluring smell of fried chicken filled the air. I had a few friends tell me about this place so I had to check it out. Let me tell you, I was not disappointed! Everyone who worked there, was so polite and patient with the customers. They are known for having the crunchiest hot chicken. So if you're a fan of Nashville hot chicken, this is your new spot! I highly recommend their their mustard sauce, mandatory dipping! They have an array of spice levels from no spice to ridiculously hot. So if you're looking for a scorcher, or just some tasty chicken with no heat, they have options for you. I would definitely recommend checking this place out.
google avatar

Jen R.

Yelp
I've had a serious craving for some good fried chicken so we decided to check this spot out. Boy, are we glad that we did! They have a giant sign that claims they have the crunchiest hot chicken in San Diego which I now believe is a fair statement. I personally haven't ever had chicken this crispy, crunchy before and I've had my fair share of fried chicken. The hubs ordered the Original Chicken Sandwich and I had the 2 piece chicken tenders, both came with a side of potato wedges. The hubs absolutely devoured his sandwich while I slowly savored every single delicious bite of the crispiest chicken tenders I've ever had! It also came with the perfect dipping sauce, Comeback sauce. I have no idea what's in the sauce but it was the perfect dipper! Both melas were delicious and definitely satisfied my fried chicken craving. Can't wait to come back again!!
google avatar

Yelp
Yummy chicken with great service! - Chicken was very crispy on the outside and juicy inside! The seasoning felt like a bit much but I can see how others would like it. It definitely has heat but it's not overly spicy if you have a decent spice tolerance. - I prefer the sandwich over the tenders because it felt more balanced in flavor - Coleslaw was on the sweet side - The cashiers were so so nice! She checked in to tell us how much longer the chicken would be (only 5-6 min, which if she didn't check in would've been totally fine too). I heard the cooks in the back shout sorry for the wait, enjoy, etc to another customer too which was thoughtful

Yelp
We recently got catering from Red Chickz based on how much we have loved the place since my family first came here. It was for 50 folks and for around 6pm on a Saturday and this company DELIVERED!!! Everything was really high quality (especially for bulk orders), we got to get the tenders in different spice levels. They even packed everything else including a tray of pickles, trays of wedges, and a bunch of sauces/utensils. I think it was honestly more than worth the price we got to have the order for because we essentially didn't have to do anything other than pay and pull up. This is a side note, but the service of Red Chickz is literally paramount. It is seldom (if ever) that a business that originates from outside of a community ever wants to find its' own place within the community it opens up sister branches in. Mark and all the workers that I've met so far have really stepped up to find local communities and care about the folks who come in. I love recommending people this place recently because honestly it's just nice to have someone care about you more than just as a 30 second interaction at a counter. Amazing and hands down one of the best restaurants for chicken... ever.

Aaron M.

Yelp
Best chicken in San Diego!!! Came here on Father's Day because of the ratings on Yelp. This place did not disappoint! I had the French toast sandwich and it was amazing. Definitely my new favorite over chicken and waffles. The wife and kiddo got chicken and waffles and loved them as well. The staff were friendly and the cost wasn't bad either. Will definitely be back!!!

Kylar M.

Yelp
Yummy food and drinks and very good workers. And very fun music!

Yelp
I had to come to this place after the sample I had OMGAHHHH this place is a Diamond in the rough because a lot of the times you see something new and many of us hesitate, it's our inner biases coming out! This place has taught me to be aware of that bc I've seen this place at the mall for a long time and jus told myself it's probably not good, what should I try... the entire time missing out on amazing chicken. Might be the BEST CHICKEN TENDERS I've ever had. No joke, I don't care for white meat either I'm more of a dark meat person. You must try their in-house come back sauce! That's what sold me it's like heaven in your mouth. I got my man a combo too, gonna go surprise his behind and bring him some nom noms haha. I up graded to cheese curds and it's my first time trying those. You can choose the spice level too. It's so damn fire. So damn good. Literally went back the next day for my chicken Cheese curds good too
google avatar

Andrea R.

Yelp
Been here a couple times since they've opened and it is just consistently delicious! My new fave hot chicken spot (although I cannot go any higher than a Medium)! Do not sleep on the French toast sandwich!!! The sweet with the spice really dances on the taste buds in all the right ways. The honey butter sandwich is a new guilty pleasure. This is a sandwich you'll bite into during your dreams and then wake up and want to head to Red Chickz to order it. The cheese curds weren't my fave, but I'm not much of a cheese curd girly. That being said, we've also tried the loaded wedges and I actually wasn't a fan because they use the same cheese from the curds on the wedges. I prefer more of a melty cheese. Everyone who works here does a great job of answering questions, making recommendations and truly just making you feel welcome as if you're having a meal at your friend's house. I think they can do a better job of keeping the tables and chairs clean, but I can see it's because it's still so busy since it's still so new.

Yelp
Heard about this new place at the mall through the grapevine and was anxious to check them out...even though the "hot chicken" craze has pretty much infiltrated most neighborhoods by now. We have a Dave's Hot Chicken right around the corner from our house. This location used to be the spot for another chicken eatery called Pluck United. I visited Pluck U as part of a Yelp event and I honestly can say I hated it and never went back. It's not surprising they went belly up and I'm glad to say The Red Chickz is a huge step up. We just wanted to try the chicken and ordered a 2 piece chicken tender with the "spark" spice level, and also ordered a 1 piece tender with the "blaze" heat level. Both chickens were great. So juicy on the inside. The Blaze chicken was a bit too spicy for my wife but it didn't bother me at all. I think next time I'll go to the next level. We also ordered a drink. Drinks are just one size and the nice thing is refills are free. Due to the spice level of the Blaze chicken, I had to refill our lemonade at least 3-4 times lol. Someone who I think was the owner came by and greeted us. Also offered to get us another Comeback Sauce, which is outstanding by the way. I asked for the recipe but the owner laughed it off. Little does he know I will find a way to get that recipe :-) They have two unisex bathrooms. One of them had a changing table built in. The bathroom was large and clean. Overall this place is actually quite large...almost too large. The walls are mostly windows, so during a hot day it can be very warm inside. I noticed the workers fanning themselves and I sure hope they turn on the A/C in the future when needed. The hot chicken and big windows will sure make you sweat.

Yelp
Food (5/5 stars): The viral Red Chickz is finally in Carlsbad! I get how they became so popular because their hot chicken sandwich was heavenly. Every bite was jam-packed with flavor and each component came together so beautifully. The chicken was fried to perfection and very well seasoned. The sauce and slaw balanced the heat from the chicken. And I loved that the sandwich came with potato wedges. Red Chickz just became one of my new favorite hot chicken places! Experience (5/5 stars): * Price: reasonable * Wait Time: minimal on a Friday at around 4pm * Service: very good and friendly. They gave great recs! * Parking: the Carlsbad mall parking lot can get super packed * Ambiance: loved all the decorations and modern look

Yelp
OMG! Wow! Just when I thought we couldn't get any more fried chicken shops, we get one more. And it's a spicy one! I love hot fried chicken. At The Red Chickz, you can choose your own level of heat: you can go "cool" (less than mild) to inferno (flaming hot). For all my chicken options, I went with their "spark" which is about a medium. It'll definitely make you sweat. Their menu has wings, tenders, shrimps, tacos and a chicken sandwich that can be paired with coleslaw, or wedges. Their cheese curds are an absolute must order! The chicken is perfectly crunchy and juicy. Ask for extra honey for the chicken sando! Perfect addition to Carlsbad. I am definitely coming back!

Yelp
Mann this is seriously some of the crunchiest Nashville Hot Chicken I have ever had. Right when I walked in I was greeted by their staff and with a welcome. It was my first time here so they walked me through the menu. They had a couple of items I have never got so I got the French Toast Hot Chicken sandwich which was . Then I got the loaded wedges topped with hot chicken. Also great. Last time I tried was a Tender off my wife's plate and it was spectacular. We can't wait to come back ! Follow me on Instagram, Tiktok, and YouTube @cerogrubs for more delicious eats !

Yelp
Stopped in on a Friday night. We usually go to Dave's hot chicken but wanted to try something new. The dining room is simple but tidy. They have cute hand painted signs that with funny sayings. Now to the food we ordered. Rip ordered the french toast sandwich with cheese "bonfire" heat. He had a side of coleslaw and root beer. The chicken was crunchy and juicy with heat that definitely hit. Served with maple syrup, gave it that perfect pairing of salt, sweet and spice. The coleslaw was mediocre, just your traditional coleslaw nothing spectacular. I ordered the honey butter sandwich "spark" and added cheese too. I loved how the butter slowly melted over the crisp chicken. The hot level was pretty mild. Onto the potato wedges. They were too salty for me. The shake was made with strawberry syrup not real strawberry but it was still tasty. Bottom line The chicken sandwiches are definitely the star of this show. Would come again!

Yelp
If you're looking for a high quality Nashville hot chicken sandwich, I recommend coming here! This is definitely one of the top places in San Diego for a chicken sandwich. I got the original chicken sandwich, with medium spice. I was really impressed with how crunchy and juicy the chicken was. The sandwich is also a good size (bigger than Dave's hot chicken). The fries were AMAZINGG, definitely not just a side dish- they were flavored very well and cooked perfectly. I would say that the spice levels are pretty mild. I would've considered my sandwich to be more like a mild, wasn't really spicy to me. I would go one more spice level up than your usual if you're looking for something spicy. Service was fast and they were friendly! Ambiance is fast-casual on the outside of a shopping mall.

Yelp
I'm a big hot chicken fan and when I heard of The Red Chickz I knew I had to try it. I got the French Toast Sandwich and the Loaded Wedges and I was very impressed. The portions were generous and I wasn't even close to finishing. BE WARNED, the hot is HOT. Food was great and service was excellent, seating was plentiful and the vibe was nice. Definitely would recommend !

Can I just say- So excited San Diego finally has a Red Chickz!! This Red Chickz is in a prime location within the shops of Carlsbad. There's tons of parking available right out front and luckily the restaurant is located on the outside of the Carlsbad mall - super convenient! The place is totally brand new and Instagram worthy! Lots of seating and sunlight! They also do have their own bathrooms which is a major positive being that it's attached to a mall! The staff is sooo welcoming and friendly! Literally like walking into your families house (if you're cool with your fam like that of course). Everyone was very cheerful, excited to be working and serving hungry customers! THE FOOD! Beware of your food coma, ok? The spice levels on the chicken is so detailed and I love that! Did you know you can also do a spice level for cheese curds too? Well, now you do! The potato wedges were an easy 10/10 along with the sauces. The pickles were fresh and crisp complimenting the burger well. The buns were soft but not soggy which is my biggest burger pet peeve Also- hello beer! Large variety of beer on tap and wine too! Shopping + fried chicken + drinks all in the same place? Can't wait to be back! Most definitely ordering the French toast fried chicken sandwich next- YES, I am ordering it please don't try to talk me out of it! My diet went out the window walking into this fine establishment and I honestly wouldn't have it any other way.

Yelp
I'm not a huge fan of fried foods, but this place...legit knocked my socks off. To start?Excellent service, excellent food! Need I say more? Okay, I will. The menu consists of crunchy, juicy, and chicken packed with flavor. You can choose from sandwiches, chicken tenders, cauliflower, cheese curds, wraps, tacos, and burritos. Do you want spice? This place offers a range from cool (no heat) all the way to inferno (burning ring-o-fire anyone?) The Red Chicks has several tables for outdoor seating so you can enjoy the beautiful California weather. Indoor seating is also available, and there are multiple tables for large groups. If you're looking for a hot and new place to try out, swing by and give your tastebuds a ride! Ambiance: casual Cleanliness: very clean Food: crunchy, crispy, DELICIOUS!

Yelp
After being dragged to many hot chicken spots and not really getting the hype, I thought maybe hot chicken wasn't really my thing. I finally get it now! Red Chickz is by far the best hot chicken I've had. They boast to have the crunchiest hot chicken, and they are living up to the claim. The flavor was on point as well. The salad was fresh, a nice balance to the fried chicken. I also got to try the tenders and coleslaw, both were perfection. The coleslaw is mayo based, but very light on the mayo, which is my preference. The bread that comes under the tenders was toasted and soaked up all the delicious grease. Service was super friendly and helpful for my first visit. I'm looking forward to coming back for more!

Yelp
We love red chickz and are so happy they opened at the Carlsbad mall. Their glow seasoning is the best. Sandwiches, tacos, potato wedges, and salads are delicious or get a single tender for a snack. I love that they have booze too.

Yelp
HOT, CRUNCHY & YUMMY Fhe Red Chickz has been on my list since they opened and I finally went! Thank you Mark for the great food & service pro tips: order the chocolate milkshake! it was so delicious and helps with the spicyness. - HONEY BUTTER CHICKEN SANDWICH 8/10 I'm a huge fan of anything honey butter so I had to get this one. the sweet & savory flavor balances well with the hot chicken. - CHICKEN TENDER 8/10 they have 6 spicy levels and I got the inferno which is the spiciest level it was so flavorful but the spicyness kicks a few moment after so dare to try if you love spicy food like me! the chicken was so crunchy outside and juicy inside - CORN RIBS 10/10 I love thissss cooked to perfection with the smokey flavor. this is a must try! I got potato wedges and cheese curds for the sides and I liked the cheese curds better! it was also my first time trying the cheese curds

Yelp
Wow, they are superb! The chicken was actually crunchy. Flavorful and delicious I am definitely going back. They have some many different options. Like chicken and waffles, French toast and chicken, sandwiches and more. The bread is soft and delicious. The cheese curds stole my heart. They were squeeky and fried to perfection. Their drink options are plentiful and they even have alcohol. The service has a very young staff. All of them were polite, kind and friendly. The location is close to the movie theater and excellent addition to the mall.

Yelp
I've been here a couple times now, I usually order the chicken sandwich spicy level "Glow" good enough spice with a slight kick, trying the "spark" next. Cheese curds are amazing along with wedges fries. Service is great and consistent. Mark does an amazing job there recommendations, you can tell his love for Red Chickz. Always a clean table to sit at. Online ordering is simple. Only wished they serve hard kombucha, would be a great pair :) Until next time.

Yelp
Great staff. Very patient with my uncertainty on what to order. Chicken is tasty and huge portions (we foolishly ordered 6 pieces for the 4 of us and that was way too much chicken, we had 3 leftover). Be mindful of the heat of the sauces, the hot is VERY hot, even though it falls in the middle range of heat offerings. The friendly cashier was mindful of advising me of this when I tried to order the extra hot and talked me down (thank you!).

Yelp
This was probably the worst Nashville hot chicken place I've been to and the whole group found this place to be very disappointing. The heat, juiciness, everything was just off. I was so excited and really hoped to have something close to Hattie Bs or Howlin rays but this is waaaay off.

Yelp
Been a while since I've done a review and it's only right that I make a comeback and write one for prolly the best chicken sandwich spot in San Diego hands down. My wife and I ordered the Classic Chicken Sandwich, Honey Butter Chicken Sandwich, Chicken Tenders and Chicken and Waffles. Our sides were the cheese curds, potato wedges and coleslaw. When I say that my eyes rolled back after taking the first bite of every single dish, my eyes rolled back like the Undertaker (WWE reference). The chicken was cooked to perfection! The breading was so crispy that you can hear the crunch from the parking lot. The chicken was also complimented with the right amount of seasoning and spice. We chose to stick with the Mild and Medium level for heat and it was just right! The sides were all 10/10; potato wedges reminded me of the ones we all used to have as kids during school lunches in elementary school (yall know the ones *chefs kiss), cheese curds were perfectly cheeesy with each bite (make sure to eat them fresh!), and the coleslaw is a side that nobody will normally want to get but this coleslaw will change that stereotype. Really wish there was a spot down in Chula Vista but the drive is worth it! Shoutout to Mark for being a wonderful host, made my wife and I feel right at home :) can't wait to try the rest of the menu! Till next time!

Yelp
Hands down the best fried chicken I have had! Their seasoning is seriously next level We loved it! It was crunchy and full of flavor. Highly recommend trying this spot! They have a great space inside and team was friendly and made us right at home. We will definitely be back to this spot again soon!
