Pluckers Keeps Old Austin Alive for Generations of UT Students | Eater Austin

"Started by UT freshmen who cooked 1,000 wings at a fraternity chili cook-off in 1995, this original campus wing spot grew into a statewide poultry empire while retaining its late-night, student-focused roots. The founders credit years of student support for that expansion. On a visit years later, the place still felt familiar — trivia-night promotions, giant sports TVs, a mural of the UT Tower and a cartoon Longhorn, a large U-shaped corner booth and a patio with karaoke — and the menu kept its straightforward appeal: hand-crafted sauces, crisp fried skin, juicy meat and bold lemon-pepper flavor paired with waffle fries and blue cheese. Loyalty programs, Wednesday trivia contests, game-night coupon giveaways and novelty freebie items (fried Twinkies, deep-fried macaroni) helped cement it as a social hub as much as a wing joint." - Eric Webb

Finally, I have a chance to leave a review on this location as we returned yesterday for another great experience. Let me acknowledge some outstanding employees first. Thank you to Mercedes, Allison, and Chris for welcoming us, seating us, and coming to our table to make sure all went well. Food took a little bit to come out, but it does get a little busy on a Saturday night! Thankfully, people watching is always fun. Appetizers came out right away and were delicious. Food came out at the perfect temperature and was super filling. The wings were supposed to be "big!"but we were hungry and didn't want to complain. Overall, we had another wonderful time. Thank you again, and see you soon!

The atmosphere was great for a hanging out or watching a game. The staff were all courteous and attentive. The food was ok. The wings were cooked well, but lacked flavor. Most of the spicy wings were more salty than the flavor they were supposed to be. And that is because we tried 7 different flavors. The patty melt was very greasy, but not in a good way, and also lacked flavor. The only good items were the fried Mac and cheese, the tater tots, and the waffle fries. The fried pickles too lacked flavor. We wouldn't go back. We would rather have wings from Wings and Rings or Wings top.

Great wing place! The fried pickle spears were some of the best we've ever had! Crisp and fresh inside and hot and crunchy on the outside. Delicious! My husband had wings in buffalo sauce and he loved them, I had boneless in their garlic sriracha sauce and they were DELICIOUS! It was bumping and our server was great, food came out timely and hot - It was a great experience for us. We will definitely be back!

Me and my finance came in on a whim just expecting a quick meal… when we were suprised with the service from Alex our server. Gave detailed explanations of the menu and gave great customer service as well as the scoop on good menu items. 10/10 would recommend you sit with Alex anytime you go to the Alamo ranch location!

Chris was phenomenal and very courteous. He informed us of the Plucker’s Club which has generous perks each visit. He was knowledgeable of the menu and was able to offer suggestions. The food was great. We recommend the sampler appetizer, Philly cheesesteak and fried Oreos! Our food picky nephew loved the fried macaroni and cheese in the app. The Fireman’s Ale is my one of my favorite beers on tap anywhere. We will be returning and enjoying our free app and dessert as Club Members. 🙂

Lunch service has slowed recently as the prices seem like they're going up. Food was still fantastic but every step of the dining process seemed to take an extra 5 minutes each. So, my "quick lunch" took about an hour and a half from sit down to walk out, even though I ordered my food and drinks together right away. Not necessarily horrible, but I won't be choosing this location on days I have a time constraint until the flow improves.
