Plus Hostel Florence

"Start us off with an overview.Plus, a modern and well-kept budget hostel-slash-hotel just north of the city center, lives in an industrial office building reminiscent of the Cold War. Cool. So who stays here?College kids. How's check-in?Check-in is a breeze. Great—all the faster we can get to our room. Speaking of: how is it?There are shared suites, although you can also book private rooms. Decor is cheerful but spartan; read: no frills. Got it. What else should we know about any available amenities? The wifi is pretty slow; rooms have ensuite showers; some rooms have a balcony. What about dining options here? The hotel's pay-as-you-go restaurant doubles as a breakfast area, as well as an all-day diner with a retro vibe. Anything else we should know about this place?Rather amazingly—for a hostel, that is—there's a great pool. Nice! So bottom line: worth it?Cheap, cheerful, and clean hostel—great for a budget-minded stay." - Erica Firpo

The 4 Best Hostels in Florence (Updated 2025)

"A lively, upscale hostel about a 10-minute walk from the main train station, PLUS Florence has an indoor pool, an outdoor pool, and a chill rooftop terrace for relaxing and meeting people. The rooms have basic metal bunks (no curtains) but thick, comfortable mattresses, individual plugs and reading lights, and lockers for security. There’s a delicious all-you-can-eat breakfast each morning (for 9 EUR) and female-only dorms for extra privacy, so I’d pick this one if you want something a bit more upscale without breaking the bank." - Matthew Kepnes

We stayed here over the weekend and had quite a mixed experience. The staff we interacted with were all really friendly and helpful – especially the gentleman who checked us in on Thursday evening. Unfortunately, he was the only one working at the time, which meant we waited around 30 minutes just to check in. When we finally got to our room, it absolutely stank – the smell was unbearable and honestly made it unliveable. Thankfully, the same staff member was kind and understanding, and he moved us to another room straight away, though it ended up taking about an hour to sort everything out. The room itself was fine, however, it would have been great if we were provided padlocks for the lockers so we could leave our belongings securely. The facilities themselves were pretty good, and the location is excellent – close to everything and ideal for travellers. However, the hostel felt understaffed, especially over the weekend, which made everything slower and more stressful than it needed to be. The common room was also far too small for the number of guests, and it was frustrating to be told it was the only place we could eat or drink our own food after being asked to move from the TV area. Overall, it’s a decent spot with friendly staff and good amenities, but for what we paid, the long wait times, lack of space, and the room issue really took away from the experience. With better staffing levels and some improvements to the communal areas, it could be a much better place to stay.

Stayed here for 2 nights on a 6 bed mixed dorm. The check in system with the ticket is questionable, but I guess with an influx of tourists all coming at the same time it makes sense. The lady who checked me in was friendly. The guard for the bag storage was not friendly, neither were the bar staff. All seemed like they couldn't be bothered. The room itself was clean and the bed very comfortable. I prefer hostels with curtains on the beds or something for privacy but it was fine. One toilet and one shower between 6 people can be troublesome. There's lockers but make sure you bring a padlock! As far as hostels go I think this one is overpriced. You can probably find cheaper options with better service. Can get noisy on the evening so bring earplugs and maybe an eye mask in case night owls come in late and turn the light on. Also a note to travellers, is about a 10-15 minute walk from the train station, but the road is very bumpy and narrow. So just prepare yourself if you have luggage (I didn't include this issue when considering my overall review as it's outside the hostels control)

Google
Super, I really liked the hostel. Couple of things for what I did give 100%. 1. No lockers in the room but it s said in the check in, lockers are available inside the room. 2. During check in, the person did not mention the comunal kitchen in the basement. The place is cool. Nicely located, rooms are really nice and clean. Showers are amazing and the place provides towel for free.

Google
The common areas are shut at 11pm, but there’s still constant noise from other parts of the hotel until early hours of the morning. Music starts before 9am, so don’t bother trying to sleep in. The outside common area has a lingering smell that can only be described in a google review as excrement and cigarettes. The check in process is a complete nightmare. You are given a ticket, which would streamline the process, if checking into the hotel wasn’t given the same priority as an “information request”. To top it off, the outdoor pool wasn’t open once during our 4 day stay, so it’s existence as a facility for guests is a lie. Not worth your money. Forgot a couple of other important detriments. The elevator is the worst I have ever experienced. If you’re above the first floor, good luck. It takes an average of 3 minutes based on our experience, to even witness the elevator at the lobby. Get used to the stairs, at least it’s exercise. And good luck urinating as a man, because you’ll have to manually hold the toilet seat up. To give some credit, the room was nice for the price, and the house keeping staff are amazing people

Google
A really modern hostel with great facilities (indoor pool, sauna). It was super clean, we felt safe all of the time and it was full of young people. The location was great too and the stuff was really friendly and helpful! Totally recommended !

Google
Shared a twin room, which was very clean and well equipped (no kettle, but it is a hostel, not a hotel, and there is a common room in the basement) Bed very comfortable. Breakfast 7-11 had a large variety of food available, well organised too.|15 min walk along one street to the Railway station, and 10mins to the Duomo. Street side can be noisy with traffic at night but suspect this is a problem along the whole street, not just the hostel!|Would stay here again.

Google
For a hostel, and the private room we had, we were pleasantly surprised with the bed and the overall cleanliness. We liked the central location. The wifi works great and we didn't hear much noise at all. The bathroom is very small in the private room and the air conditioning is very weak, you can only turn it on or off. The check in and check out services take very long, you take a number and wait for them to call you, so keep that in mind if you're rushing. We had a few issues with they key card that wouldn't work and the staff was very slow to help us with it.

Google
Great location, just a 10-minute walk from Florence’s central square. The place is full of friendly people, offers nice amenities, and the bar prices are surprisingly low, a big plus! Check-in can be a bit chaotic due to the crowds, but the staff handles it quickly. Breakfast was impressively varied, which was a pleasant surprise given the typical Italian style. The room was quite noisy though, likely due to worn or poorly fitted windows.

Yelp
3.5 but rounding up. Plus is located in the heart of Florence and is within 10-15 mins walking distance of everything in the metro area. The rooms are interesting as they seem to be more of only twin beds and nothing else. I do appreciate that the AC works extremely well that the rooms are kept very cold. There are a lot of rules to follow here, something to keep in mind if you are planning to stay at this hotel. The water pressure and temp of the shower is fantastic. Probably the best bathroom I've had while vacationing varies parts of Italy. They also offer a breakfast buffet at 10 euros per person every morning.

Yelp
This was an excellent hostel and I've been to many. It feels more like a hotel stay than a hostel to be honest. Between the pool, full-scale restaurant (food was cheap and decent too), and modern/updated facilities it definitely didn't feel like the other hostels I've been to. I opted for a four bed mixed dorm and it was all women. I'm not sure if that was the luck of the draw or the kindness of the hostel staff, but either way it made for a pleasant surprise. Wifi is strong and reliable throughout the property. There are plenty of toilets and outlets as well. Definitely suitable for remote working if you need to while you're in Florence. It's also situated close to both the main tourist sites as well as the main train station. I would absolutely stay again.

Yelp
This is the best hostel I have ever stayed at. Good location about a 12 minute walk from the Florence main train station. Staff was friendly, all spoke English, good security, fantastic clean rooms, breakfast and dinner available for reasonable prices. They have a small indoor and a small outdoor pool, very small gym, sauna room. They have a bar on the ground floor and they mix great drinks for reasonable prices. They have a great deck on top of the hostel where you can hangout and make friends and you can see the cathedral. Mixture of young families, college age students, and a handful of older people like me. Fantastic place to stay for a reasonable price.

Yelp
Booked this place last minute with some travel website bucks, so I was a little nervous as I had never stayed in a hostel before. That being said, this place is so much more than a hostel! It is part hostel, part hotel. I had booked a private room and it far exceeded my expectations! The private bathroom was spectacular and I even had my own private balcony! The bed was so comfy and the multiple pillows provided were near perfection! The front desk staff were so nice! Julio checked me in and was beyond helpful and courteous! I was only in Florence for the night and leaving the next day with a limited number of early morning hours to sightsee. He plotted out all the must-sees on an easy to follow map and even told me about this hill that would give me a fantastic panorama of the city! He was not wrong, it was breathtaking! They had a happy hour the evening I was there and there seemed to always be something going on activity wise, so it seemed really easy to be social. They also had a buffet breakfast you could purchase. I did not since I was going to be out and about, but from what I was told, it was pretty solid for the price. The location is very central. I literally walked all over Florence from here and back and it was very easy to navigate. Also, the main train station is less than 10min walk away. My only complaint here would be the noise. Part of it is the very thin walls/floors/doors of the building itself and the other is just inconsiderate people. I was extremely tired when I got in and all I wanted to do was pass out. However, I kept being woken up by loud yelling, laughing, banging from the other rooms, slamming doors, etc. I eventually had to put in my earplugs. In any case, I cannot speak to the hostel portion of this place, but it was a great overnight stay in one of the private rooms (sans the noise) and honestly, I wish I could have stayed another night or two!

Yelp
I am a fan of Plus Hostel. Pros: + Free wifi + free computer usage downstairs in the computer room + 6 euros for a breakfast buffet every morning starting at 7 AM - 10 AM. That's a GREAT price and the stuff that you get is SO worth it. They have bacon, eggs, bread, juices, coffee, etc. Really great deal. + Friendly staff that are fluent in English and can answer most of your questions. + the rooms are clean and neat. + rooftop bar (closes pretty early though) + good location, walking distance to the train station and many nearby restaurants. (though not the BEST location because it's a bit far from what I would consider the central part of Florence) + pool on the premise Cons: + outlets were in weird places so you had to compromise with charging one thing at a time overnight. + This place seemed to serve a younger population (college aged?) so sometimes it got REALLY loud. I remember one night there was a band playing downstairs on the bottom floor but I can hear them from the 3rd or 4th floor.... and they played loud music past 1 AM. Not the best for people that were trying to sleep to get to an early tour the next day. + elevators were very slow and small so definitely work those legs! Overall, I totally recommend this place. They have other "Plus" Hostels in other countries/cities. I am a fan!

Yelp
I am sadly disappointed with PLUS Florence, and I definitely would look elsewhere for a place to stay. This has got to be the strangest hostel I've ever stayed in and I have experienced several. There's really no ambience here, this place is like a hotel. There are not many people hanging around in common areas. There's really only one common area (the pool bar). There's usually only one or max two people at the front desk, creating long, frustrating lines of people waiting to be helped or spoken to. The cleaning doesn't seem to be thorough. There was a piece of chewed up gum stuck on the top of my bed! Unacceptable! The elevators move so insanely slowly you'll get claustrophobic. They're so tiny and can easily take a couple minutes to reach your floor. Take the stairs. I was also pretty annoyed to know that under 18's are welcome at PLUS - really not the type of crowd you want a hostel. It was so weird having a group of 16/17 year olds stand around by the bar and dance with everyone. Not to mention the screaming kid that kept us awake on our floor. NOT at all what I came to a hostel to experience. Not to mention, because of this place's weird likeness to a budget hotel, there are MANY older and senior adults. Again: strange, and not the type of crowd you come to a hostel to meet. The drinks are really overpriced and the shot glasses look like little medicine cups, AND all their inside amenities are closed during the summer. Why??? Overall, PLUS is just not a good option. I really wish I would've done some more thorough research before booking our room here. On the bright side, we did get pretty drunk one night. Drunk me got locked out of my room and they gave me an extra key free of charge, which was nice. The restaurant is decent, but there are several great options around the place to eat. Other than that, no. Look elsewhere!

Yelp
Worst experience ever. Security is so fucked up and chases you down everywhere after 11pm.

Yelp
If I could give this place zero stars I would. The only good thing is that the AC (sort of, barely) works. I stayed here with four other girls in my room. Although the room is spacious, I couldn't even walk around without socks - it was so so dirty. Let me preface this by saying I have asthma and very bad allergies, especially to mold. I've had them my whole life and know when mold is around. There was, without a doubt, mold either in my bed or on the ceiling. Within the first day of being there, I experienced hives all over my body and the second night I couldn't sleep because my sneezing, stuffy nose, and wheezing was so bad. I was on the top bunk, and my sister was staying below me and could see mold IN MY "MATTRESS." Not only that, but we are genuinely concerned with the stability of this bed. The first night we were actually terrified I would collapse onto her in the middle of the night. Not to even mention how SQUEAKY the bed is even if you move in he slightest. The breakfast is not even worth it, the second and third day we're probably gonna skip out all together. Gross eggs, stale cereal and watery orange juice. Please, do not stay here! I'm begging you!

Kylie T.

Yelp
When we (3 girls) arrived to PLUS very late at night we found that the other (1) girl in our 4 person hostel dorm had locked the door from the inside. Our keys didn't work and the front desk keys didn't work because the girl had locked the door and jammed it shut with something she attached to the doorframe. Despite having been knocking, ringing the bell, and trying again and again to unlock it, she didn't open the door. Oh, and it is my birthday! Ugh. This review has 5 stars because they upgraded us to their best suite. It has a gorgeous view of the duomo and a wonderful atmosphere. I'm writing this after finally settling into bed at 2 am. The manager finally got the girl to answer the door and she was "sleeping," which I find hard to believe. Girl, you were really sleeping through loud knocking and ringing? Did you put the brace in the door in your sleep? In a hostel dorm for 4? I think not. They tell you at the front desk whether or not other people are staying with you. Never the less, PLUS went above and beyond to make us comfortable for the night. A+, PLUS!

Yelp
This is actually the worst hostel to ever exist. It is so dirty and there is a lot of mold everywhere! My sister has a severe mold allergy and asthma and she could not breathe at night. The floors are yucky and there's nothing good about these rooms. They try and make it seem like it's fancy because there's a pool but it's indoors bc the outdoor one is "under construction". Several people from my group have bug bites from the grimy beds. Also, the bunk beds are extremely unsafe. The littlest bit of movement causes the entire thing to shake and squeak. Bunk beds are all fun and games until you question if you will be crushed by the top bunk in your sleep. It's not even close enough to anything to make it worth it so DO NOT STAY HERE!!! All the good reviews are a lie!!!!

Yelp
The conditions of the hostel were as described, and it was a very comfortable stay. I always bring earplugs with me when I stay in a hostel so as to avoid street noise and or the noise of other guests. I slept like a baby. The room was clean, a bit stuffy but that's no fault of the hostels. Happy there was no fee for the bath towel. free to print travel documents. As for the staff they were a hit or miss. Some were multilingual, had the experience of multitasking and attending to many clients at once, even if just to answer a question or simply acknowledge the arrival of the new guests and then politely ask them to wait, whilst others were a bit less kind, possessed little patience, or were just less experienced. Lastly, I gave 4 stars and not 5 because the locker room was a bit of an unattended mess and quite frankly unsafe. Once inside, anyone can raid it. Everything else was great! I didn't go into the Turkish bath (sauna), or pool, but if I visit during the summer days, or perhaps come back some time when I'm not so exhausted from walking all of Florence, I will probably choose Plus Florence again, because of the great location in the city center, being in walking distance from buses and trains, and overall convenience. Restaurant and bar downstairs is an excellent touch! Will visit the other locations as well. Overall, we felt very taken care of. Great visit!

Elisa D.

Yelp
Hostel looked amazing upon arrival but unlike most hostels you have to pay for everything inside including breakfast which is advertised as free. Pool looked fun but it was closed the entire time and they suggested a wine tour which was not great. Don't buy any of their wine tours.
google avatar

Ravenas M.

Yelp
This place has everything I want from a hostel. The rooms were nicely set up, with a dividing wall in the middle to make it feel less communal and plugins at every bunk. It still served the purpose of meeting people well, I had some great conversations between naps. The lockers were a good size, the beds were comfy and there was a shower and toilet in the room. The air flow/ac was decent, though at nite the noise from the common area downstairs was a little loud. That wouldn't have been a problem if I wasn't sick, I might have even enjoyed in joining in. It's definitely a youth hostel, though I don't think that's the rule. My travel partner enjoyed the pub crawl (again, I was sick, missed out), and there was ample information on sights. The food is also pretty decently priced, fairly quick and decent quality for the price. Huge points scored for the amazing customer service. I had some issues with printing out a boarding pass, and the front desk went through all the trouble of signing into the airline site for me and printed it out for free.

Yelp
Another hostel stay during my Euro tour. The Plus Hostel in Florence was located in a good spot, not a far walk from convenience stores, shops, and restaurants. There were also a few bars close to the hostel. The hostel itself was pretty darned nice. I was rooming with four other girls and we got a HUGE room for the 5 of us, with a shared bathroom. There was also computer room, wi-fi, a pool, laundry, and the food they served was really good too! As far as hostels go, this is a total winner! Also, when ti was getting darker, I didn't feel nervous about walking from the hostel to the grocery store by myself - something I can't say for Rome or Venice.
google avatar

Andres G.

Yelp
The overnight customer service is horrible... will call you cheap when you find someone else sleeping on your bed.
google avatar

Samantha G.

Yelp
If I could give this Hostel half a star or none at all I would. There are nose booger's wiped on the wall (legit so gross),AC doesn't work what so ever, and the shower looks like it has Ebola in it. My roommates comforter had a menstrual blood stain, which of course she asked for a replacement, & then the replacement given looked as if a knife was taken to the middle & ripped all the way down. Lastly, the security guards here are TOTAL assholes. Especially the guard named Denis. You are apparently not allowed to be outside of your room after midnight or else you are escorted to your room like a fucking child. Oh also, these guards charged a drunk girl $5 for an extra key when she could have easily just knocked on her door & her roommates could have let her in. Seems like they are trying to pocket money from guests. I seriously DO NOT advise anyone to stay here. EF College Breaks total screwed us on booking this hotel!
google avatar

Yelp
I visited Florence in the winter cold outside, the heater didn't work. Cold outside colder inside. Heating is controlled by front desk. Talk to them twice it nothing was done. Limited power plugs.

Taylor P.

Yelp
Booked this with my husband was a little nervous at first since I've never stayed in a hostel but we had a private room to ourselves with 4 twin beds. The room was huge and everything was very clean! Heater works and clean bathrooms! Also pool and sauna are nice! They also have a locker room with showers in the pool area which was very clean as well. They also have a cafeteria and the food is very good! Also a bar! This was a perfect hotel for us in Florence and would definitely recommend this to others!

Radhika G.

Yelp
This place gives you all the comforts of a hotel with the amazing social atmosphere of a hostel. It's extremely clean, has all the amenities you could ever need as a budget traveller (pool, bar, restaurant, daily maid service), friendly and helpful staff, and a young crowd! I met lots of cool folks and had a really comfortable stay for a decent price. My room had six beds, six lockers, a bathroom and a shower room. Love this place!

Tonda B.

Yelp
The rooms are spacious, beds are comfy but there is only I outlet in the entire room. ( my room was a mixed dorm for 4) so only one person could charge their phone, ipod, tablet, etc at a time. Also all entry cards get cancelled at 10am each morning. Your entry cards are needed to operate the electricity so every morning I had to go exchange my card at the front reception before I could shower. Very annoying!! Especially if you're in one of the detached buildings and have to walk a ways. I didn't visit either pools or the restaurant so I cannot comment but I won't be coming back unless they upgrade their electrical.

Yelp
Plus was a good surprise, I shared a room with 3 others with a private bathroom, everything was clean and the wifi actually worked. the bar and pool area was fun to hang around. the breakfast they offer is worth the euro but overall the food was not the best. If you are considering Plus i say it is worth the price.

Yelp
Overall, a very solid hostel experience -- we were in an 8-bed room and it never felt too crowded. Shower & bathroom in the room is always nice, plus a sweet balcony. This isn't nearly as exciting as some hostels I've stayed in -- the bar was OK at best but we enjoyed ourselves overall. The indoor pool and turkish bath are a nice touch (though the sauna was broken during our stay). The only major issue was that the internet broke on our last day there -- understandably this is not the hostel's fault but when there are hundreds of people relying on your wifi for basic needs (printing out boarding passes, getting directions, etc.) and your response is that "a technician is going to try to come out here today to fix it"... not okay. Aside from that, PLUS was a great place to stay.

Qype User (.

Yelp
Absolutely enjoyed my stay here. I stayed in a private dorm and I was very impressed with the cleanliness of the place and very satisfied with the toilet which was in superb condition and had a strong hot shower which was excellent after a tiring day of travelling!!! High recommended budget hostel, value for money!!

Tim N.

Yelp
Plus is the best hostel I've ever stayed at. The staff is really nice, the rooms are really nice, the location is really nice.
