Breakfast Restaurant Opening On Carson Avenue Downtown | Eater Vegas

"The first tenant at the location, operating from 2015 through early 2017; it closed amid concerns cited in local reporting about crime, inconsistent traffic, lack of parking and a high concentration of homeless people in the area." - Janna Karel

Po' Boys Creole Restaurant

Google
Everything lived up to its high rating. It looks unassuming from the outside with a small dining area, but it was some of the best Creole food I’ve ever had. The jambalaya stole the show for me, but their calamari, fish, and cornbread were also excellent. The service was attentive and quick as well. 100% a must visit!

Google
So this restaurant is awesome! If you like the little hole in the wall type restaurant, then you will love it. The food is amazing and the service is down home. When you look at the menu it doesn't say, but the do half portions which is what is show in the pictures. The pictures are of the crawfish etouffee and the shrimp creole. The crawfish etouffee has a little heat to it where as the shrimp creole does not. ( But both are amazing). You absolutely get your money's worth! If you are driving on rt one towards the beaches then swing off and stop by. It is maybe about 10 minutes straight shot I believe.

We were looking for something a little different. Excellent food and stellar service from Lisa, our waitress. The sweet tea was really good as was the catfish and jambalaya. Great for a taste of N'awlins.

Google
What a gem of a restaurant and truly unique dining experience for this area. The service is great, Lisa and Sharon were very pleasant in the dining room. The food was outstanding, every dish was bursting with unique flavors. Check out the pictures for what I highly recommend anyone ordering. We will definitely be back, again and again!! Thank you Chef!

Google
Amazing Creole restaurant with great service. The crawfish etoufee is delicious, the gumbo is tasty & all the po boys are exactly what you would expect. For such a small place, the restaurant is tastefully decorated, seating is comfortable and food comes out quick. Portions for the crawfish etoufee & combo plates are big, great to share!

Robert C.

Google
The restaurant is seat yourself only. They take togo orders and seem to do a steady business. It's a small restaurant but has a good following. The food is outstanding and holds true to Creole cooking. I had blackened catfish, and it was wonderful. The gator bites were flavorful and delicious. The red beans and rice were fantastic and would recommend it.

Google
A true gem 💎. The staff is always friendly, we really appreciate the lady's that work there. The food is something you have to try even if you think New Orleans cuisine isn't for you. A good first try would be the calamari or parmesan grits. It's always bumping around dinner time so come early and be patient.

Google
One of the best meals we have had. All the food was fantastic. Our server (Lisa) did a great job, drinks were spot on. The gator bites were excellent, the zydeco plate was really good, the crayfish cooked perfectly, my daughter had the smashburger she said it is one of the best she ever had. The jambalaya was enormous and cooked perfectly. The blackened scallops were amazing. And lastly the crawfish po boy was a great sandwich. Great small town place. I'm sure it gets crowded. The deserts were really good as well.

Yelp
Technically, I give this a 4.25. i I thought the jambalaya tasted like an Italian rice dish. Perhaps it's just my personal preference for the smoky brown Cajun version over the red Creole version . . . this is a Creole restaurant so I knew what I was getting . . but I still think it would benefit from a little more spice and complexity. The Gumbo is excellent. Definitely something to get when eating here. Perfect seasonings. Savory. Really good. The next time I visit, I want the crawfish Etouffee or the Zydeco plate. I've also had about 10 people tell me to go back and get the scallop appetizer. Portions are good sized. Prices are fair. Service is excellent. I never have room for dessert so the next time I'm starting with their pecan pie because it looks absolutely amazing.

Yelp
Back down in the Milton DE area for a few nights and come by for dinner two nights in a row. We can get the other key food group types in and around the Philly region, but authentic Creole food.... hell no and Chase, the current top chef and owner is doing a fabulous job. He took what Mike built and established and brought Po'Boys Creole a step further if you can believe that being possible. The same great friendly staff and AWESOME TASTY AUTHENTIC food. Note, this place is food heaven on earth and only has so many tables and no one is rushing through their meals.... this food needs to be savored. Hence, come early, less wait time. First night dinner we opened with a cup of chicken and andouille gumbo, as thick as it gets and yummy. So flavorful. Next, we had the backend scallops, this hands down is a must have dish. Incredible texture, moist, flavorful and the spinach was cooked to perfection. Now for our main dishes, one sent me to heaven and back--- the Jambalaya dish was THE BEST we've ever had here. There was more spice/kick then we recall and boy that was a most welcomed surprise in our mouths. We hugged Chase for this dish, it was an award winner for sure. We also shared the crawfish etouffee which I can't get anywhere else this fresh, this much and this good. For our repeat night, night 2, we opened with the fried green tomatoes; another must have dish. My wife had a special dish-- crab cake platter and had to have the Jambalaya again. Yup, needed to experience that great cooking another night before heading back up north. We said our long good byes and welcome our next future trip to the region where Po'Boys will be on our menu for sure. Hungry yet? Then don't blame me if you drool over your smartphone looking at our food pictures.

Yelp
This was our first visit here and it did not disappoint. The lovely lady was very attentive and pleasant. It's a small place but no problem finding a table for lunch. The food was scrumptious. We started with a cup of gumbo - pretty good. I would highly recommend the appetizer Blackened Scallops with Sauteed Spinach, Lemon Caper sauce. I usually do not like capers but this was just a perfect finish to the dish. Scallops perfectly cooked. Wait but there is more... the Fried Crawfish Po' Boy served on French bread with creole fries, fresh made coleslaw and choice of house made Remoulade, Cajun Tartar or Creole Honey Mustard. Since we couldn't decide which, they gave us all 3 on the side and labels them. They were all so good! If I have to pick, I would pick the creole honey mustard which is a surprising choice because I don't usually like mustard. It was piled high with crawfish and those fries were pretty amazing too! Definitely would return the next time we are in town.

Yelp
What a delight to find such authentic creole food at this sweet spot. This place gets busy. Be ready to wait, and when you get a table, be ready to order. The rich, fresh tastes here will leave you smiling. I had a shrimp and crawfish po boy. No way to pick it up and eat it. It was packed with seafood. There are daily specials, and service is efficient and nice.

Yolanda R.

Yelp
Nice place but super small. The food is pretty good, yet a bit overpriced. But this would not be my regular stop as there are many other larger and better places to eat in DE. Hostess etiquette could be better, friendlier and more welcoming.

Yelp
This resturant is a great find! Authentic Creole food that was flavorful and well balanced. We had the calamari, fried oysters (the favorite) and gator bites. The gator bites were a bit chewy but the other two were tender. The sauces served with them were a hit. For dinner, we had the crab cake special and the crawfish etoufee. Both were delicious. The craw fish fish was spicy, but balanced and tasted like it was straight from new orleans. The crab cakes were the best I have ever had. Full of meat with very little filler. Overall a great resturant and a must try! The dining area is small, so you may have a wait.

Yelp
This local favorite transitioned to a new owner. For a while, the original chef stayed in the kitchen but I haven't spotted him there for a few months. Most of the friendly staff and cooks are still there. Delicious regulars such as the gumbo, the scallop app, the Po Boys, creole dishes and desserts are pretty much the same. New items and specials are not always in the NOLA theme, such as the wings or dinner specials, but are frequently quite good. Wings are a bit sweet for me, but others really love them. Same general atmosphere, but sometimes the indie music gives way to county. (Let's see if Joe T. thinks this is an "Oh no!")

Yelp
This place is a gem. Things never change year after year. We stop by here every year and the Crawfish Etouffé tasted the same deliciousness and the Blackened Catfish was buttery tender.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was excellent! Filet mignon was served to perfection! Service was excellent too! There was a short wait but worth it!
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Food was great !!! Perfectly seasoned and served steaming hot ! Lots of good choices on the menu. Server was very knowledgeable and helpful on choosing dishes. They were very flexible with removing ingredients you may not like. Wings were so so good ! Blackened chicken po boy was amazing and even though they used a full chicken breast it was not dry at all ! Will definitely return when visiting this state. Didn't get many pics....
google avatar

Yelp
This is a GEM!! Tiny place with limited seating but dies take out! Absolutely the BEST food and service from Pam our waitress!! Flavorful and cooked to perfection!

Chris S.

Yelp
Still 5 stars, even under new ownership. The specials are always fantastic and bring a good flair to their smaller menu. If you stop in and are given a number to wait in line, wait. We have had just about everything on their menu and have NEVER been disappointed. We cannot recommend this place enough, and it's a shame we live 2 hours away and can't experience it more than 1 week out of the year. Also kudos to the staff. They all work their butts off and the food/service is crazy consistent. Their sweet tea is also the necter of the gods.
google avatar

Gina Q.

Yelp
Have been here multiple times and tried many different menu items and every single one is delicious! The waitstaff is so friendly and accommodating, and the desserts are amazing too!
google avatar

Jeff F.

Yelp
Took a little road trip, off our beaten path. Small little restaurant. We had to wait about 20 minutes but well worth it. Food was hot with true creole flavors. Great service and large serving sizes.
google avatar

Yelp
Just all around wonderful& delicious-made me miss New Orleans all over again! And the Beignets!!! I sometime just go there to pick a few to take home

Randall T.

Yelp
My favorite restaurant. Amazing food friendly service. Don't judge this book by the cover.

Yelp
This was our first visit to Po' Boys and it most certainly won't be our last. It was a Saturday night and there was a line out the door. We waited for a table and it was well worth the wait. We started with the scallops and crawfish egg rolls. Both were fantastic. We had the blackened catfish and the shrimp and grits for entrees and they too were fabulous. We finished with the pecan pie rounding out one of the best dining experiences of the year.
google avatar

Yelp
Very good Cajun food. Best I have ever had since the 2020 New Orleans trip. Food is cooked freshly. Delicious. Great price with big portion. Look awesome too. My "Nextdoor" table literally asked what I got so they will get the same plate haha. Just 100% right for all what we ordered. So glad we stopped by. Soul food Plus, Delaware food is also tax free, ha!
google avatar

Alisa D.

Yelp
Food and ambiance is fantastic! Very friendly staff and a welcoming atmosphere. It doesn't look like much from the outside and the place is small with maybe 8 tables but they had a steady crowd. I had the shrimp Po'Boy. The fried shrimp on French bread with remoulade was delicious! The side of Cole slaw was fresh and more vinegary which I prefer rather than creamy and the fries were really good with a light herb seasoning. The shrimp were cooked perfectly with a light corn flour coating and I've been looking for fried shrimp like I had in South Carolina and this is it! There are several other seafood choices on the menu I would like to try. We are from Dover and we will be back as it's worth the drive. I'm still thinking about those delicious shrimp a day later.

Betsy J.

Yelp
Food is always great, service too! I've tried many different dishes, never disappointed. We especially enjoy the fried green tomatoes!

Yelp
Southern vibes nice fresh food and cool staff! My boyfriend and I really liked it we travel far for some Cajun food and it was worth it

Yelp
Ok y'all... EAT HERE NOW. It's been so long since a restaurant has really "Wow'd" the entire family. The restaurant is in a small strip mall, looks like an old location next to dollar store. Plenty of cars out front it was full. Every morsel was gobbled up. Even the kids devoured the food. Voodoo egg rolls are a must! Creamy cheesy inside and crispy out. Perfection. Jambalaya was awesome. Not too saucy. Just the right amount of kick. I would prefer with less chicken (personal preference). Gumbo had the most delightfully rich Roux. Red Beans and Rice was also delicious. Beignets were great. Clean restaurant. Friendly services perfect food. Keep it up Po' Boys keep it fresh and you'll continue to thrive.

Yelp
I'm baaaaaaak. This time with a few more friends. We had another set of meals including Bourbon Street Winfs, Crawlfish Tasso Egg rolls, Fried Oysters, Shrimp Po Boy and Collard Greens. Mind you, this wasn't my order although if I was a glutton I'd surely try it in one setting. All guests cheered their selections. Jambalaya was said to have a nice kick to it but not overpowering. Collards were noted as delicious from folks who make them at home (so you know this was a high hurdle to call them delicious. Service from Lisa was also tremendous. Thaw is always consistently welcoming to guests!

Yelp
Everything! Multiple owners over time, same great food. Wonderful menu. We visit on a regular basis.
google avatar

Yelp
I've been coming here for years and never once had a bad meal or experience. This is one of the few places you can order anything off the menu and it will be great. They are by far best in class for their cuisine and in my opinion one of the best overall places to eat in the entire Cape region.

Bob G.

Yelp
We never miss a chance to come here. Etoufee, catfish, jambalaya, shrimp and grits, all top notch. Such nice service too.

Yelp
We were lucky to get a table for four at 4:30 on Wednesday . Food was delicious and plentiful and the staff was wonderful, always a pleasure dining at Po Boys ! Seems like a lot of people agree ! '

Yelp
TLDR: Delicious creole food with generous portions. Come for the shrimp etouffee and massive Poboys! Vibe: 3/5. Right off the highway in a nondescript strip mall, Po Boys is easy to miss. Inside the small restaurant there are about 8 tables total, so at peak hours there may be a wait. Walls are adorned in various pictures from NOLA and a blackboard over top of the register displays any specials for the day. No frills yet cozy and welcoming. Service: 5/5. The waitress Lisa was great! We were seated immediately and orders taken not too long after that. Food came out very quickly and piping hot. Food: 5/5. Having been to NOLA numerous times, the food at Po Boys brings back fond memories of the Big Easy. We ordered the Zydeco Platter (etouffee, red beans and rice and gumbo) as well as the Zydeco Poboy (crawfish, shrimp, oyster and catfish). Everything was well seasoned and tasted spot on to the dishes of NOLA. Portions were also very generous, with the Po Boy overflowing with seafood. Highly recommend!

Sarah S.

Yelp
Ordered carry out on our way back to our rental. Wanted to get a sort of sampling of the food so ordered the shrimp and andouille sausage pasta (yum!), red beans and rice (double yum!), gumbo (man the flavor! And just the right amount of kick!). For dessert got the key lime pie that had this amazing raspberry sauce on the side. It's not often you find a creole restaurant and we loved it. Helpful staff as well. Definitely recommend!

Theresa M.

Yelp
The first thing I noticed was how nice the staff was. Lisa was cheerful and answered our questions regarding the food in great detail. That helped our party of four make the best choices for dinner. The menu has so many delicious choices that it was hard to stop ordering dishes. The gator bites were crispy outside and tender inside. The sauce on both the shrimp and scallop appetizers were delicious. The jambalaya was spicy but in a nice subtle way and the portion was huge. The crawfish etoufee was so well seasoned and the blackened catfish was flaky but moist; the gumbo was silky, rice and beans, biscuit and corn bread were finger licking good. Last but not least the pecan pie is the best I have ever eaten. We can't wait to go back!

Veronica B.

Yelp
Food is excellent. We had the wings as an appetizer; quite succulent. I usually get the fried catfish & hubby gets scallops entree! Both are very good. We highly recommend this restaurant. Staff friendly & helpful.
google avatar

Yelp
We ate at Po' Boys in Pensacola Beach Florida around 1991 college Spring Break, and I want to try the southern cuisine again. There's a Bojangles in Eastern USA that was very good also, and appears to be similar to Popeyes which is also very good. The food entrée images look very nice to try.

Michael T.

Yelp
The service and food no matter what dish you select are amazing. The freshness and the preparation of the food are always perfection. Great wings great shrimp creole great po boys great everything. The service is fantastic. Lisa and Pam are amazing. The owner Chase and Chef Trey are just some of the best chefs. The specials are amazing and creative and the Cajun recipes are authentic. Perfection

Yelp
What a little gem! I spent a fair amount of time in Louisiana and florida eating Cajun food. This place is legit! My wife and I got the blackened scallops appetizer and it was superb. She got the shrimp creole (shrimp and grits) and said it was the best she's ever had. I had the zydeco plate which was gumbo, jambalaya, and red beans and rice. The gumbo had a nice pepper taste, the jambalaya was great. The rice and beans were average. We also had pecan pie and bourbon glaze bread pudding. Those were real good too. When we got there it was a 20 minute wait (fri) but well worth it. Nice attentive wait staff. Look forward to going back.

Yelp
We stopped into Po' Boys for dinner while visiting the area, and it was definitely one of the highlights of the trip. We were hungry, and they did not disappoint. We started with the fried crawfish tails. These were great. A little heavy on the fry mix, but the crawfish still shined through. I moved on to a bowl of gumbo. This was rich, spicy (but not too), and full of all the goodness that makes up gumbo. Frankly, I could have stopped here and been happy. But, the place is called Po' Boys, and you gotta get one. I went with the classic fried oyster, while my fiancee got crabcake. This was, ironically, where the place suffered a little bit. The sandwiches are served on really large, thick bread, which undermines the real stars. It's good bread, but for my taste, just a scosche too much. We finished of with the Mud Pie. It was a fairly simple dessert which brought back memories of those pies from childhood. I feel I should subtract stars for that z but I guess I can't fault them my childhood. ;)

Yelp
Really enjoyed the food from here. Unsure about the service since we did a to go order, but the restaurant is really nice! Well decorated and the staff is friendly. The jambalaya and the muffelatas are a must try items!

Kimberly A.

Yelp
Great food, great service, a little hidden gem. A place where you can become family very quickly.

Kathy K.

Yelp
Great service ! Food is excellent !!!Louisiana style . I had the scallops as an appetizer and they were done to perfection!

Demetria G.

Yelp
unbelievable flavor, attention to detail in all dishes, my new favorite restaurant in Milton DE. I am a New Yorker however will travel for deliciousness!!! staff very friendly. I bought takeout out first night in town and upon leaving stopped their to dine in and more take out to bring back NY. whenever in the area will definitely make this restaurant one of my first stops and probably last stop bef heading home.

Stacy S.

Yelp
Excellent food! Very tiny restaurant so you must get there early or be prepared to wait.
google avatar

Travis K.

Yelp
The food and staff are outstanding! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu but I always need the gumbo and fried green tomatoes. The crawfish is amazing and so is the jambalaya. Don't leave without the pecan pie or mud pie. The decor is festive with a New Orleans feel but it's tight- so get there early for a table or get your food to-go.

Alynda P.

Yelp
Service was good and people were friendly. If you are looking for authentic creole cuisine, it's probably the closest you'll find in Delaware but it isn't the real thing and it's on the expensive side.

Joy M.

Yelp
I had lunch today at this lovely little restaurant. The food was AWESOME!Very authentic! We had delicious Calamari with the most delicious dipping sauce, gumbo and shrimp and sausage with penne pasta. Their prices are reasonable and the menu is full of delicious dishes. Our waitress, who may have been the owner, was so nice and explained some of the dishes to us. This darling place is my new favorite place for great food!
google avatar

Ahra J.

Yelp
I would have never ever thought to find an amazing creole restaurant in the middle of Delaware ! The taste really reminded me of New Orleans and portions were very generous too. I also love that they have the kitchen visible from the dining area so I know they don't have anything to hide. The staff were also prompt and friendly and the service was top notch! My favorite was the beans and rice & the étouffée ! We also got the po boys with oyster, shrimp and catfish. All the pieces were breaded so lightly and seasoned so well! The dining area is small so be sure to plan accordingly when you plan on eating inside.
google avatar

Wayne F.

Yelp
An oasis of good food in a state where it's extremely hard to get. I highly suggest any of the sandwiches with the HOUSE MADE REMOULADE
google avatar

LaTanya W.

Yelp
Everything about this place was amazing I had the bayou shrimp and the shrimp po boy and they were not stingy with the shrimp either. I just got back from New Orleans and def didn't think I would find anything even remotely close to the food there... def coming back

Joan M.

Yelp
I love this old town place! Been here many times and always enjoy everything! Today their cornbread and Tuscan bean soup with sausage and shrimp was delightful! The jambalaya and fried crawfish tails are amazing! Pam is always so sweet too

Mike G.

Yelp
Excellent food, great service, and nice relaxed setting. It's small town quant with surprisingly good food.
