Poa Café

My wife and I stopped in while visiting in Portland, and enjoyed a brunch and coffee. The food was excellent, the yogurt bowl, and chicken sandwich was fantastic! The coffees were good as well. Staff were friendly and quick! And the restaurant was clean, the patio out back was awesome!

We stopped here in a bike ride. The coffee was delicious and well made. I like that they have 2-3 low carb breakfast options. The seating indoor, out front, and in back gives lots of options. Staff was warm and welcoming. Had the paleo bowl and brunch bowl.

Good options for brunch. We got the omelette, Mt.Hood bowl, and avocado toast. I also got coffee which was okay. Food was great. Loved the vibe as well. The only bummer for me was the toilet. It was not clean and I couldn’t use it.

Great cafe! Friendly customer service. Many good healthy options. Patio seating available. The Golden Milk Latte is amazing! Highly recommend any of the bowls! They have a “ Bring your own Mug/Cup” deal too! Tried this Cafe first on a delivery food app ( Great experience) and wanted to try in-person.

I went to this cafe for breakfast and it was an amazing experience. The cafe was very pleasant and cozy. The staff were also very friendly and when they messed up a part of our order they were very kind and quick to fix it. The food itself was phenomenal. It tasted fresh, it was light but very filling. I enjoyed everything that we got. My personal favorite item would be their sweet potato bowl, it is one of the best breakfast bowls I've had. I highly recommend this cafe if you are in the area. They had an outdoor area with a small fire pit which was nice to sit in as well. The food and service are incredible!

Warm and welcoming staff. Nice and airy with a lot of plants. Gorgeous mood and setting. Outside patio with plenty of room to spread out! You should try it.

Drove from Seattle all the way to Portland to visit some family friends and we came here to dine in. The place is so cute and the atmosphere was upbeat yet relaxing. The staff put so much effort in their service, and the food and coffee was very good quality and clean tasting. This is also a great place for vegetarians/vegans and also for those who are trying to eat healthier. Highly recommend the sweet potato bowl! I definitely plan on revisiting this place when I come back to Portland

Wow!! Went out and about on a Monday and noticed most places closed. Walked in and was pleasantly surprised at their menu. Opted for a Matcha (delicious). Ordered the grilled cheese with egg and it was exactly what I needed. Salad was great too. Must check out if you’re in the area. Enjoyed their patio seating, especially with the weather and cool breeze. Can’t wait to visit again

Visiting my sister in Portland and she's been wanting to come back here for awhile. It's one of her favorite cafes. I loved the lighting and decor as you walk in. There's some small chairs and tables out front, the baristas are nice, overall area is clean. Handful of tables inside and out were enjoying their food and drinks. Definitely recommend coming to Poa Cafe, even my BIL said 'this is the best breakfast burrito I've ever had!' I personally loved the breakfast burrito. I've never had one with sweet potato in it. It was sweet and savory!

This is a super cute spot to grab something healthy and hang out. It is a little loud to do work but if you have noise cancelling headphones it's not a problem and there's great seating. Pretty spacious in here. Does get cold inside :/The sweet potato bowl was great-11$. I liked the garlic tahini sauce they put on top. Not the biggest portion but good for if you want a light meal. Definitely want to try their smoothies and other menu items another time. Employees are friendly. I feel like it's reasonably priced here too.

Cute cafe with spacious seating both inside and outside. I got a yogurt bowl and a oatmeal latte which are both great. The coffee was actually really good and I was surprised since it seemed more like a brunch/food spot than a coffee spot. Workers are friendly. I liked the aesthetics inside, and the presentation of their food was great. I noticed that nearly all the dogs that were passing by outside on walks wanted to stop inside here which was funny to see. They have a very extensive menu of coffee, tea, smoothies, bowls, burritos, etc. Can't wait to try more!

Favorite ~ Sweet Potato Bowl, dressing is tasty. Their smoothies are a bit pricey but natural ingredients. Service is cordial with no frills. Backyard patio spacious and a popular spot for a morning wakeup with the pup.

Popped in here randomly on a Sunday and we were pleasantly surprised by how delicious it was! I had a blt and my daughter had the Belgium waffle and a smoothie. Both were so good I can't wait to go back. Staff were nice and atmosphere was clean and welcoming.

Stopped in mid stroll for the golden milk elixir! It was delish! Very turmeric color and had a nice cinnamon on top! Cool vibes inside the cafe! Lots of seating! Loved the ambiance and drink! Service was fast and friendly!

Normally I love this place but the takeout order I just received was laughably bad. The portion was extremely small- measured about 1/2c of rice in total, 4 pieces of kale and about 7 pieces of sweet potato. I wouldn't typically count pieces of kale, but the shockingly small amount of food was unusual. Little to no sauce and poorly packaged as well. I had to do a double take to make sure I ordered from the right place

Very chill low key breakfast. No wait and nice back patio. Enjoyed a breakfast sandwich and coffee.

Unbelievable experience at POA today on the Williams street gentrification project. I love this place-the lady run operation along with the seering and thickly coated smell of bacon grease on everything within 20ft of the store-proof that a functioning ventilation system overrated! Everyone loves the smell of bacon, especially when it sticks to you the rest of the day after stopping in! When I walked into the lobby, the manager was interviewing someone at the back corner table and no customers were waiting, it was around 12:10 and I thought it was a curious choice as a manager to invite and interview in during the lunch rush. But apparently the staff could handle it! I was asked to wait, while the barista turned to pour a smoothie. I noticed online orders were paused, and that's when I started to look at labor. 3 cook/baristas on the line and no one to handle the customer. A manager and a new hire in the corner and still, no help for the customer who is trying to pay. At this point, 5 minutes have elapsed and the lobby is now full of customers. I have 10 minutes left of break and the lady bringing in the garbage walks in. 5 minutes after she got set putting equipment away, she was instructed to come and help me. After telling me it was was her 2nd day (she was untrained on the register) and the manager was now training the new hire, and there was 5 people in line already, I saw the whole shift going down in flames. I decided that it was time to walk out when the server didn't know where the pint glasses are for the beer I ordered. I knew they were in serious trouble and I just wanted out. I had 5 minutes left on my lunch break, I used the restroom and walked out. As I left, the server offered me the beer (most likely a short pour) and I told them I had not paid, she said she could ring me up! I declined, saying that I had to go to work! Thanks for nothing poa, I might try again to support you!! I hope so, but goodness gracious please help us help you!!

Spacious cafe with a nice back patio that accommodated a group of six. Smoothie seems a bit pricey but okay for a one time visit. Friendly staff. Nothing out of the ordinary and left without a major impression positive or negative about the place.

Cute bright airy cafe. Enjoying a delicious and filling Pink POA toast - smashed avocado, egg, smoked salmon on a lightly toasted whole grain toast. I paired it with a chaguccino (mushroom cappuccino) with oat milk. Patio door is open to keep some natural airflow so bring a sweater. Would definitely love to come back a try their smoothies or bowls for breakfast or mid morning. Snack when I'm in the area.

This is my go-to place for a quick breakfast. Their vegan burrito is amazing, especially with the pink sauce--you HAVE to try the pink sauce! The service is good, although they are usually busy because of how popular they are. The only thing I'm not a fan of is their coffee, but that's okay because their food is incredible. I've also tried their waffles, which are perfect for anyone with a sweet tooth. The interior is cute with plenty of seating, and they also have an outdoor patio that's great for sunny days. Whether you sit inside or outside, it's a great spot!

My kid and her beau frequent this brunch-y place often, so on my latest trip to visit them, they brought me here one weekend morning for a later breakfast. I can see why they love this place: lots of healthy options by way of bowls and various protein shakes. Lots of breakfast-y offerings, nice looking pastries, lots of blended juice drinks, keto dishes, matcha teas and various coffee beverages. I liked how they had a lot of seating options too, outside and inside (and a huge patio out in the back, too! Unfortunately, this is only accessible by way of a staircase. FYI for folks in wheelchairs, etc.). Still, lots of tables inside, so one would be hard-pressed not to find available seating. Call me old-fashioned (hey, I've been called worse lol!) but all I wanted was 1-2 eggs and maybe some bacon. Couldn't get that here. I ordered a breakfast "Sammy" which, for $7.50, came with a drip coffee. The Sammy was essentially a grilled cheese sandwich on sourdough bread. Delicious, yes, but probably would've been better if I had added on some bacon in there (my fault). As it was, I ate half and left the remainder, and I gave my coffee to my kid. So word to the wise: if you just want an ordinary, non-fancy, non-gourmet, plain egg or two, this may not be the best place for you. (I should note, my kid and her boyfriend each ordered bowls - I forget what kinds, - and they are big and fresh and healthy, and they love these! They're just way too much for me and, as I mentioned, when it comes to breakfast, I'm an old-fashioned gal). Anyhow, we sat on a table in the rear patio area, as it was a hot and sunny day. We initially sat at one table in the shade but it was uncleaned, so we moved to another table, more in the sun. This table too was uncleaned, but we cleaned it off ourselves. This is the only reason I am not giving 5 stars.

Updating my review, as the past year coming to POA has been consistently better. Maybe I had a lack of compassion for the hard, transitional times, the food was lacking - but now, when I go by, it's quick & consistently good. I've given up on this being a family oriented neighborhood & the owner explained to me how she had to shift in order to keep her business moving, I understand... The Opal Springs is my favorite smoothie in town & the bowls are healthy & tasty. 4 start's because no food on the menu is a definite go to- It's good to see POA thriving & making it through the insanity of this massive change in our neighborhood. Ordered the pink toast, was SO good, that sauce is incredible. Got the eggs on the side because eggs kind of gross me out, and they were accommodating and the eggs came like a nice lil omelette that my partner ate for me. Got the mango smoothie, was worried it would be too sweet with vanilla added, like a creamsicle, but was not the case, was super bright and delicious. Coffee looked really well done too. But the whole time all I could smell were the waffles and I NEED to come back to try those.

$8 for a watery smoothie. $5 for a water kids smoothie. Nope. My kid wouldn't drink it. Why? Because it taste like frozen watered down berries. :( Mine did taste better than his but it was melted.

Poa Cafe is the perfect place for a smoothie and clean food. I was meeting some friends who recently moved into this neighborhood for lunch and they suggested Poa because of the oatmeal. You order at the counter and then they will bring the food to your table. I ordered the immunity smoothie. The ginger was a little over powering, but I kind of liked that. I didn't add on any boosts, but I like the option to be able to customize your smoothie for your needs. I also had the avocado toast. In hindsight, with the smoothie, I probably should have just opted for one or the other since both was a lot of food, but I'm still glad I got to try both. Also, there is a lot of indoor and outdoor seating, so you can enjoy your meal at the cafe.

I am absolutely frozen after a business lunch mtg there. They left the door open the entire time even after asking that they close it. They said they have to keep it (wide) open bc it locks. It's in the 40's. Perhaps it's a good time to close the patio so inside guests are comfortable? The food is DELICIOUS however and I will go back in the summer. But, I couldn't feel my toes or fingers by the end of the meeting, and I was wearing a very heavy coat-a long sleeve shirt and jacket underneath, boots, and pants.

I actually had brunch plans to go somewhere else but I walked by Poa and it looked more like the vibe I wanted. So happy I went there instead! The food was exactly what I was looking for: hearty but healthy. Would return for a future brunch!

As a digital nomad, I am always in search of a city's best avocado toast. Let me tell you, Poa's avocado toast made my taste buds dance for joy! I went back to try other food 2 more times to confirm my taste buds' happiness. I appreciate the gluten free (gf) bread option, the ease of food modifications, & the labeling of vegan/dairy free/vegetarian/paleo on the menu. The ingredients are fresh, & the coffee is delicious! The baristas are very friendly, & the cafe has a lovely outdoor patio & aesthetically-pleasing decor. Keep an eye on their IG- they post specials! Like I've said, I've been 3 times & will definitely be back again, but I was slightly disappointed in my food the 2nd & 3rd times I went. My egg was overcooked on my brunch bowl, but I chalked it up to the Saturday brunch takeaway rush. I went back a 3rd time, & the size of the BLT sandwich & amount of ingredients were disappointing for it being $15. I'm obsessed with the avocado toast & will continue to try other food items. Despite a few mishaps, I definitely recommend Poa Cafe for nutritious, delicious eats, coffee, & smoothies. :)

Healthy and filling options for breakfast! They are maintaining social distance guidelines and have sitting on their outside patio and tables at the front. Their smoothies looked delicious but this weekend we were feeling like indulging with a breakfast burrito and egg sandwich. We ended up getting a chai latte to wash it down with and from ordering (2 groups before us) to when we got our food it took about 15 mins. Before each group they spray the card machine and menus. They also have a glass between the staff when you're ordering. Now let's get to the food. The egg sandwich with additional bacon ($3) was pretty tasty. I love my some sourdough bread so I thought it was nice and toasty. Could I make this at home? Probably so it's likely something I'll pass on next time. To balance out the cheese and bacon they pair it with a nice side salad. The winner for me was DEFINITELY the breakfast burrito! We opted for no additional sides and this thing was still massive. The tortilla held up well with all the ingredients and the sweet potato and garlic sauce were my fave parts of the burrito! The feta, spinach, beans and eggs were cooked well but the sauce was so darn tasty I probs could have had a side of it too. I would definitely get this and you could even share it between two people. Great option to fill yourself up with healthy fuel for the day. If you are waiting for tour food they also have items for sale such as reusable totes, silverware, and straws.

My office ordered smoothies from POA via door dash, however smoothies never delivered. We contacted POA to see if they had made the smoothies and attempted to explain the situation but the person answering the phone flatly said, "that's a DoorDash issue" and hung up. Don't think that we will be ordering again due to poor customer service.

The food was delicious and tasted super fresh! Absolutely will be coming back, it felt so relaxing on the patio and the insixe of the cafe is super cute too.

Great breakfast burritos! I really enjoyed my vegan burrito and my girlfriend also enjoyed her breakfast here. The staff members working were very nice.

{Based off of Grubhub order experience} My current go to healthy boost, I order delivery from here 2xweek! I donate plasma and am anemic- i use these meals as a way to boost my protein & iron levels before going in to donate :) I always get the Sweet Potato bowl- sometimes the rice is a bit dry, sometimes the portions are a little wonky, and the poached egg upon delivery is never poached (turn hard boiled) but the kale is always great & the sauce is deeeeelicious, I think at this point i'm ordering mainly for the original tahini dressing they put in everything. YUMM. If you purchase the big side of sauce it's good for maybe 2-3 generous servings. I get the grasshopper smoothie, which is delicious and an easy drink but is definitely more of a juice consistency than than that of a smoothie. Both items deliver well but the food container gets concerningly soft because of the material- reminiscent of the way chipotle bowls go soggy. I am literally obsessed with finding the perfect healthy boost+ smoothie joint for my pre-plasma rituals and have tried everywhere: Best Friend, Moberi, Kure, Harlow, Greenleaf, the celery, flying cat, nekter, apothecary, rush bowls and more and can definitively say that Poa is the best cheap quick option with my favorite food choices and Harlow is a good place for smoothies. Support small, support local!

I love love love this place. It is definitely in my top 3 cafes to study! They have an indoor and outdoor seating with my tables and chairs to accommodate everyone. I chose the outdoor seating area and the vibes were just right. There was background music playing and the weather was so nice. I got the sweet potato bowl and a matcha latte. The portion of the bowl was perfect and it tasted so delicious. I wanted to try their lavender matcha but I think they just gave me regular matcha. However, it was alright because it was still yummy and the workers are super nice!

I was really craving a smoothie. I heard good things about this place so I thought I'd give it a try. To be fair, I stupidly didn't look at the hours and thought they were still open around 3:30 on Friday, May 10, because the door was still open as they were closing. The person first encountered me as they were closing as I was browsing the menu outside and said "woah you scared me." I felt really badly. I walked in thinking they were open and that same person said "I'll just shut the door behind you." And then I walk in to look at the menu and the same person asked "woah, where are you going?" Made me feel very stupid and badly. I then asked if they were still open and that person said "no, we close at 3." I apologized and instead of politely saying it's okay, that person said "ugh it's okay haha." It was very passive aggressive. I tried to stay patient and being autistic and having anxiety myself, I easily get sensitive. They could've just told me they were closed when I was looking at the menu and I probably would've come back and ranked this place higher. I don't think I'll be going back after this encounter, which gave me very bougie vibes. Fortunately, the Celery is across the street and it's open until 7- not to mention service is kinder and more professional. I went there instead and got a good smoothie.

I've been back several times since my last review and honestly, POA deserves higher reviews than it has. The food is amazing and so are the smoothies and drinks. I come here at least once a week to eat and just do homework (perfect space for doing work). I always get either the sweet potato bowl or sweet potato breakfast burrito and it's so amazing I could no joke eat it everyday!! The staff is always SO kind and the food and drinks always come out so fast. Definitely my favorite coffee shop in Portland and I'll continue to keep going back every week for as long as I don't become broke hehe

Very nice friendly staff. Inside was very clean and nice. Grass hopper smoothie (8) is very refreshing. Best avocado toast (11) I have had. The bread is super soft and delicious and the seasoning brings just the right amount of flavor blending well with the avocado. I did not get a picture but the waffles are so fluffy and have such a delicious flavor to them!

Great service, tasty smoothies! I always visit here when I'm in the area. They also have a point system where you can earn rewards with each visit. Sometimes it can be difficult to find parking in the middle of the day but it's worth a little bit of a walk.

DoorDashed this meal. Haven't had (additional) scrambled eggs in a while & these were so good. The sweet potato bowl was pretty delicious. Enjoyed all the elements of the bowl: white sauce was interesting creamy touch to the kale, black beans, brown rice, & poached egg. I'd recommend it with chicken or bacon next time. I also had a smoothie with mango and kale, banana, blue spirulina, & protein. Delicious! I'd go back if I lived out here.

Visiting in Portland and strolled across this cafe. Despite other poor reviews, my experience was so good that my friend and I came here two days in a row! Both times we ordered within 5 minutes and got our drinks and food within 10 minutes. At the time there were all girls working and they were so sweet and helpful in picking out food, smoothie, and coffee items. The burrito was very healthy and good. My favorite was the sweet potato bowl I could eat that every morning it was so tasty! We also ordered some smoothies, I got the Rise N Shine which if you love peanut butter it is delicious! On the second day I got the Golden milk latte which had turmeric in it, it wasn't bad it tasted very light. My friend got a vanilla oat milk latte and it was good. Overall we enjoyed this cafe hence why we had to go twice to try more food and drink options!

I like this place I've had a few of their smoothies and plates. Their brunch bowl with egg is super yummy and healthy. Their golden latte is delicious. The staff is friendly. Recently I had a poor DoorDash experience and they were really nice about making me new food even tho it was not their fault. The burrito is delicious, the smoothies are good, the toast is yummy. There's no reason not to come to Poa :)

Cute Cafe with so many delicious breakfast items I am definitely going back to try more. I came here for the Avocado toast this time. Super interesting take and I love when I get multiple slices of toast so I was happy about that. They serve the avocado on sourdough with salt, red pepper flakes, and seeds. They have add on options like egg or bacon but I just got mine as is. They also serve a salad on the side with vinaigrette dressing. I would suggest that you always choose to have the dressing on the side because it definitely gets on the toast and changes the taste. And remember to ask for utensils if you don't have any, I ended up eating the salad with my fingers. All in all, it was yummy toast and filling. ATR: 7 out of 10 Synopsis: (+) perfectly ripe avocado and good seasoning mix. I got three slices of toast which I liked and it was filling. (-) The salad dressing changed the flavor of the toast as it was put in the same to-go container. The crust was a bit hard and chewy.

I hate to do this, but the last few times I've been here the quality of the food has really gone down. I just ordered a breakfast burrito and there's hardly any food at all. It's almost completely flat from lack of filling. The last time I went, the tofu was barely cooked. Whoever is in the kitchen now on weekends is just not even trying.

This place was so cute and has fantastic, healthy food if you're looking for a guilt free breakfast in Portland. Came here with a friend for breakfast and it is nestled in a cute area of Portland with lots of great shopping and food, coffee shops and more in the surrounding area. The interior was clean and it is self serve with ordering at the counter. Unique food options, i opted for a ginger lemon shot then the pink poa toast which was exceptional! The beet sauce is to die for not sure what they put in it but it is so so tasty! My colleague got the paleo bowl which she really enjoyed and highly recommended. She also ordered the chagaccino which is one of my favorite drinks and was super tasty! We ate the food before I could get photos but hope to go back and capture some next time cause it was so amazing! Service was friendly but I will admit they were not willing to make many accommodations so something to be aware of for those who may have specific dietary restrictions.

Great place with healthy and veggie options. The breakfast burrito with sweet potato and black bean is delicious. Great coffees and smoothies too! Does have a few outlets and seating if you want to work a bit in the morning. Spacious patio in the back too!

Here's a tip: if you're going to advertise avocado toast, you should make sure that the item (i) contains avocado; and (ii) has **toasted** bread. Otherwise, you end up serving the customer a soggy piece of sourdough bread with avocado seeping down into it. Other reviewers' photos show that the restaurant knows how to toast bread. Maybe my order was just handled by someone who needs more training.

I am very disappointed with the burrito I ordered through Postmates. There was hardly any egg and a couple of pieces of spinach but a ton of avocado. In the pictures they show the sweet potato as orange colored (yams) but this burrito has the white sweet potatoes. The taste was okay. The avocado really masked any of the taste it was trying to convey. The only reason I give it a 2 star review is because I asked for no queso fresco and they did as I asked.

Very cute cafe with lots of seating inside & outside. The gentleman who took my order was very kind & friendly. I got the Grasshopper smoothie. So fresh and delicious- it hit the spot. Everything on the menu sounds yummy and I appreciate the variety of options.

The staff is always friendly and accommodating to my weird requests. I get the build your own smoothie with different add-ons and extra fruit or kale to get my daily dose of veggies.

Used to love coming here after work out classes and the quality has gone down. Which is a bummer because the prices are already on the higher side. Some of the employees are warm, others are unpleasant.

This is a great place for a clean ingredient natural smoothie. Also it tastes really good, I liked the green smoothie better than the berry one but both were really delicious. Their burritos are also really good and have a lot of flavor.

Poa never disappoints. Service is always great despite being busy aaaand a little known secret is to pre-order online so your order is waiting for you at pick up!
