When we went in, we waited a solid 5 minutes for the host to appear. Several other workers were walking around in a hurry, but no one approached the people walking in the door? Strike 1.
We get seated and then have to wait a considerable amount of time for our server to appear. Strike 2. While friendly, he was soft spoken and difficult to understand (not due to any English issues). While we were looking the menu over, someone else delivered chips and salsa, apologizing for not coming sooner. Soon after, the server delivered our beverages and we placed our order.
While we waited, I checked in and realized we could get a free small guac or cheese dip, so I showed it to the server who looked confused and mumbled something about a manager. A significant amount of time passed. BF commented that his beer was warm and tasted funny. I had finished my tea. Strikes 3 and 4. Our server was no where to be found. Eventually he showed up, sweaty, and realized he'd forgotten the cheese dip and said he'd go get the manager. I said not to worry about it, but he brought the manager since he hadn't heard me. I told the manager not to worry about it because our food should be out shortly. BF told him about the beer and he explained the keg cooler had went out the day prior and he walked away to check on it. He was immediately on the phone with the supplier.
The server shows back up, now super sweaty, and asks if we are ready to order and we told him we'd already ordered. He remembered part of it and then quickly went away to check after I asked if it had been put in, as he couldn't remember. What strike are we on? Too many. All I wanted was my food. It came out within a few minutes.
The food was bearable. My food was lukewarm, but I was starving, so I didn't complain. Since we had another stop to make after we left, I used the restroom before we left. It was a pigsty. Toilet paper every where, the entire bathroom was gross and dirty and you kinda wondered when you sat down if the toilet would stay upright. When I came back to the table, BF was pissed because the beer hadn't been comped from the bill, despite it being warm and us informing the manager that something was wrong.
Seriously, if there was a way to give 0 stars, I would. As I started writing this (the day of), I read Jackson H's review and was worried about the prospect of food poisoning from my lukewarm food, but it was too late since my food had already been eaten.
There are so many food options in this area. This will be the only time I'll say this about restaurants in Charleston, but if you are choosing between Poblanos and a chain restaurant, GO TO THE CHAIN.
