Pobre Juan - Barra da Tijuca

"The large ofuro filled with ice and special drinks and the feather-light bird-shaped sculptures hanging from the ceiling are the calling cards of Walter Gola and Washington Fiuza’s design for the restaurants in this successful chain. If this is your first time at Pobre Juan, select one of its flagship dishes, such as grilled rib-eye steak, with a garnish of puréed carrots and pistachio rice; and for dessert, churros with dulce de leche Havanna." - Michelin Inspector

Google
I must say for the most part it was a great experience, the steak was great and cooked the way I wanted. The only down fall was the quality of the beef carpaccio and buratta, you can easily tell by how cold the carpaccio was that it was previously frozen and the buratta was not authentic ( just tasted like cream)

This particular restaurant has made significant improvements from just a few years ago. The meat and side plates were delicious. Our server, Anderson, was absolutely outstanding and such a gentlemen. Congratulations to the entire Pobre Juan team.

Excellent atmosphere, lots of waiters ready to help you. Traditionally argentinian food (mollejas, morcilla, cordero) and lots of options ranging from amazonian fish to roasted cauliflower.

5/5 My husband and I got the Bife Pobre Juan steak for 2 and it was delicious, it was cooked very good as well! We also shared a Panqueca de Dulce de Leche dessert and it was so good.

Our steaks were delicious, and cooked perfectly. The wine choice is also excellent

The food was OK, not as good as advertised. Lots of better places in Rio to eat meat. One of the cuts arrived cold (we could tell they had an issue with the order because it took a long time and everything else was warm). I'd recommend 348 or Mocellin if you're in the mood for beef. This was our second time here, don't think we'll be coming back.

I visited this restaurant several times in the past years, and it’s been always a great and consistent experience. Pobre Juan is located on the 3rd of Village Mall, with a fantastic ambiance – beautiful cellar with a long wine list and grill right by the tables. I would recommend sitting inside the restaurant, as the “outdoor” area in the mall hall may be very loud and crowded. As the restaurant is located in an upscale shopping center, prices are considerably higher, but if you take into consideration their “Para Compartilhar” Menu, you can get a better value for your money. The food is always delicious - meat served at right cooking point and cut by your table and good variety of tasty sides. For 2 people, it’s recommended to share one piece of meat from the “Para Compartilhar” Menu with 2 sides. Additionally, their drinks and juices are also a great choice. Overall, even though this restaurant is pricey, you get a nice experience with excellent food. In my opinion, Pobre Juan is one of the nicest places to have great steaks in Rio.

Used to be good few years ago They changed pretty much their whole menu Their Bife de Chorizo is definitely NOT Bife de Chorizo cut. It’s full of fat and they look like a rib cut and NOT a Chorizo cut Empanadas are delicious Morcilla came out cold with an artificial flavor Let me go back to Dom Pasqual restaurant for a real Bife de Chorizo.

Yelp
Beautifully decorate restaurant but having to go to a mall no matter how luxurious it looks it is bummer. I have to say that all restaurants around Pobre Juan were pretty good looking too. Decor wise was very modern, intimate and artsy classy. The wines were excellent, or that is what my connoisseur friends said. Now, the fish we choose (maybe we should have stick to meat as it is an Argentinian restaurant after all) was one from the Amazonian and it was hard and gummy. We asked the waiter and he told us that this is the type of fish but we were disappointed that we were not told the type of flavor and texture before deciding even if we asked for that.

Yelp
O Pobre Juan, no Village Mall, oferece carnes de primeira qualidade, extremamente bem executadas, acompanhadas de um excelente serviço. A cada nova visita, é já foram muitas, o prazer da boa mesa se renova. Impecável e imperdível

Yelp
Exceptional restaurant!!!!! The drinks were fantastic, the tangerine & ginger caipirinha is a must! We tried the sausage fly and the provolone cheese ate the best appetizers! The steak were absolutely delicious, the eggs "farofa" and the "soufflé" potatoes were another must! For dessert were had the dulce de leche churros and O-M-G. The view of the mountains is definitely a huge plus!!! It's on the expensive side but definitely recommend and will go back.

Yelp
We were staying in Rio and decided to take a trip out to Barra da Tijuca. It was a bit of a drive but was well worth it. This restaurant is in a very nice shopping mall. Reminded me of home. The restaurant is really nice. The decor and music make it very pleasant and inviting. We ordered the sangria which was sooooo good. It had tons of fruit in it and it wasn't too sweet or strong. Def a must try. For our starter we tried the carne empanadas. They were ok. The meat filling was a bit dry. But our main course made up for it. I had the rib eye and he had the lamb chops. Both very good options and worth the price. They were cooked just the way we requested. I will definitely come back next trip to Rio.

Yelp
Are you coming from abroad and want to experience a fancy typical Argentinian restaurant? Yes, their meat is better than ours, we have to admit. This is the place for you. Beware, though, that this franchise was created by Brazilians. :) Their chimichurri impressed me so much (goes well with anything, like salad, bread, meat, palm heart) and also the pupunha palm heart (a premium type you must experience, if not here, somewhere else). The meat was a bit over the medium cook (barely red on the inside), not masterchef approved. :D Therefore, a little disappointing since it was supposed to be the high point of the restaurant. The famous thin potatoes that inflate were also a big disappointment, although the meat quality is so good that even a bit overcooked it was still delicious. Nothing special with the desert (plain creme caramel, what we call here pudim). My suggestion is that you try the lunch executive menu, which gives you from convert to desert, a full meal, and for a more affordable price. Beware you are going to be spending some money anyways, since the restaurant is supposed to be a fancy venue, you pay also for what you see, not only for what you taste. Very nice atmosphere.

Yelp
A steakhouse with a nice atmosphere. The chorizo steak I had was decent, but not as good as Mollicin's. It was a bit over cooked and was late in delivering so it is a bit cold already since we have a large group from WCCI2018. The caipirinha was decent and I had four with the meal. Overall, the food was good, but the company was nice.

Yelp
Over the past few years, the number of places to eat good meat in Barra has risen and risen. When Village Mall opened, Pobre Juan was one of the first restaurants to open there. Essentially it is a high end steak house. It is the antithesis of Outback. Excellent cuts of meat at high prices. Good wine list, lethargic service. I thought this was growing pains or maybe new staff, sadly I was wrong, they are just slow. This really spoils what should be a great experience. The empanadas are a favourite of mine, the meat tends to be cooked to perfection, they put funny spices and vegetables in your gin and tonic, some of the sides are also excellent. If you want a long drawn out event of a meal it is a great place to go. You will spend money here of that you can be sure. That hasn't reduced the line of customers waiting to get in there though. One time i tried to book but they wouldn't let me.

Yelp
The Meat quality is one of the best and their wine list excellent. Sectors are well made and we enjoyed live piano music on a Friday evening. The place gets crowded so ensure to be early...

Yelp
The quality of meat is very high here but overall I left unimpressed. I ordered the top sirloin from their specialty's menu and it was supposed to come with a red wine reduction sauce. It did but barely any at all and I was left with mostly with an unflavored piece of meat on my plate which I don't particularly care for. My wife got the ribeye and it was again another quality piece of meat but she asked for medium and it came out rare. We got the tostada Juan pobre appetizer and it was excellent though it took 40 minutes to arrive which was annoying. Atmosphere and decor is excellent- apparently some famous Brazilian TV actors were seated next to us which meant nothing to me but gave my wife a thrill.

Yelp
The best I have had so far in Brazil. Taste great and staff was friendly and very attentive to the table.

Yelp
I went there for a business dinner and I loved the food. Very well decorated, good service. The only negative opinion on the restaurant is about its location: It's inside a meaningless big shopping mall and it seems that you are going to eat in a fast-food chain.
