The Best Restaurants on East 28th Avenue in Portland, Oregon | Eater Portland

"With several outdoor picnic tables, fire pits, and a tent covering to shield from sun or rain, Pod 28 has hosted a number of carts that have become full-service restaurants, including Güero. The current set of food carts includes FOMO Chicken (sweet and spicy Korean fried chicken), Saint Burrito (burritos and quesadillas), and Egyptian Bros (gyros). Those seeking a hoppy drink pairing can head to Captured Beer Bus, which features about a half-dozen beers as well as wine and cider on tap. Casual and kid-friendly, play a game of cornhole after lunch." - Thom Hilton

10 Best Food Trucks in Portland, OR | Condé Nast Traveler

"Northeast 28th Avenue is basically restaurant row: The several-block stretch is lined with some of the best food in town, including Ken’s Artisan Pizza, Bamboo Sushi, PaaDee, and more. With so much great food crammed into a five-block radius, you’d think a tiny, no-frills, blink-and-you’ll-miss it cart pod would flounder; but Pod 28 has been going strong for about a decade. There’s a boho vibe to the lot, with its unruly planters and smattering of mismatched tables. It all adds to the casual charm. Make sure to hit Wolf & Bear’s while you're there; the Israeli pita wrap cart has been around for almost 10 years, and in that time, the menu hasn’t changed—which is a good thing. For something a little different, hit FOMO, the cart serving up Korean-Southern fried chicken and sides. (We like ordering a half bird ($14), and asking for one half in the spicy sauce and the other half in the sweet garlic sauce.)" - Danielle Centoni

I'm not one to drive around to different food carts, but this one was great. Thai food, fried chicken, Indian food - all so good. Also, there's a bar. Lots of seating and in a fun part of town.

Google
The Japanese cart here is delicious and I always feel good after eating there. Everything is fresh and beautiful. I live close so I think I have tried everything on their menu! Love the Salmon and the Shrimp, and the vegan bowl is delicious! Lots of other choices, and there is a fantastic beer cart with a fire pit on dry chilly nights. Lots of sunny spots, and a cover for rain. Kid and dog friendly.

Google
This is my favorite food cart pod! We hit all but 2 stops between the 8 of us, SO great. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is such a great, chill vibe. Will definitely be back!

Claire Wang

Google
Got the "figgy piggy" and "breakfast of champignons" crepes from the crepe cart! (Crave Creperie on Google maps) They were incredibly good. Also gluten free!

Google
We stumbled across this little pod while looking for parking for 50 Licks. Friends went to get ice cream and came back to eat there and I had dinner at the pod. The burrito place here was, by far, the best I have ever had! Delicious. Super friendly staff and fast. I will be coming back here!!! Damn, now I want a burrito.

Google
Good food options! The tables are not set up too well and there are no ADA bathrooms.

Shane Stricker

Google
Love this food cart pod! Beer at the Captured Beer Bus, plus Mexican, Chinese, Thai food and more in a cozy, neighborhood environment.

Google
Mexican food so good. Flavored nicely even without the sauces I didn't try. When I got to the beans hidden under other good things I asked them where they had been all of my life. I got the seared vegetables with chicken bowl with no rice. My grandson liked bites. Cabbage lime guacamole combo I kept to myself.

Yelp
We were on a trip from CA couple of weeks ago and made a stop for lunch in Portland. We found this food pod area that had quite a few options. I decided to go with Saint Burrito and ordered the Grilled Chicken burrito bowl. It was so good, and every bite had a nice flavor to it. I would definitely recommend this place.

Yelp
Really delicious burrito. I got the carnitas but I've heard very good things about the tuna as well. We ordered delivery but looking forward to ordering at the food truck and hanging out in the pod.

Kelvyn N.

Yelp
Dude, let's be real for a second. As someone whose passionate about food, ingredients, taste, sourcing. The TLC put into the food here can be tasted immediately. The staff is amazing, the pricing is fair, the location with other food/drink offerings alongside a fire pit... In my opinion, this is the best food being served at a reasonable price in Portland. If you're on the fence, just get the carnitas burrito.

Yelp
Excellent burritos! We grabbed some quick on our way home from a movie. The service was nice and quick and the veggie burritos were delicious. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Come from Seattle and decided trying food in this restaurant. Very cool atmosphere a lot of food trucks. Food was delicious. Ordered tuna taco and quesadillas. Very chip. Friendly staff, fast service

Yelp
My favorite burrito place in Portland. It has definitely earned its reputation for serving up a delicious and uniquely flavored burrito. My go-to is the chicken burrito and I always add on seared veggies, guac, and jalapeños. SO GOOD! Also, the service here is always top-notch. No matter how busy they are (and they're almost always busy), they're always wonderful
google avatar

Yelp
Really bummed at the handwashing here... there wasn't any. Watched the lady pick stuff off of the floor and kept making food. Burrito was awful. The chicken was so chewy I couldn't even eat a few bites.. Just wasted $20..
google avatar

Matthew H.

Yelp
Just go here and get the carnitas burrito and get both salsas. Sit with a beer and go to town. It's so dang good, right? I'm sure there are other good things on the menu but I keep getting the same thing and I have no regrets.

Bailee M.

Yelp
Favorite burrito place in Portland. Always get the veggie burrito even though I love meat but the zucchini and peppers and crema are just perfection. Worth it every time.
google avatar

Jeannie D.

Yelp
A cute little food cart area off Burnside and 28th, with a fire pit that was perfect for waiting for my food in the cooler weather. Parking can be challenging. It's Portland. The guy who helped me was so polite and kind. The food was absolutely delicious and we devoured everything I brought home. We tried a veggie bowl, side of beans and rice, chips and guac & yellowfin tuna tacos. My son had a chicken burrito that he loved. Reasonable prices, friendly peeps, & super delicious food, it's worth a try!
google avatar

Cenz O.

Yelp
I do not recommend this food cart. The salsas are either over salty or puréed watered down versions. Nearly flavorless! The pork is dry beyond comprehension. The chips and salsa side is a complete joke of stale chips and sour/salty/mouth puckering yuck! The only thing semi pleasant about this food "truck" was the real fire pit 15' away. This is a no go for good food. GROSS! You want REALY GOOD burritos, go to Springwater food carts.
google avatar

Madeleine A.

Yelp
Great food, awesome vibes! Seems like a very inclusive place. Couldn't tell it was vegan.
google avatar

Zach K.

Yelp
Tried the carnitas. Really loved that the ratio of protein to beans and rice was high; lots of carnitas! Carnitas itself was juicy and flavorful. Mild salsa was excellent, and wish I had asked for more. Cabbage added a great crunch and actually has some nutritional benefit. These aren't the biggest burritos, but are priced accordingly with high quality ingredients. Top notch option in SE Portland.

Madeline E.

Yelp
Yum yum yum! One of the best burritos I have had in Portland. I had the asada burrito and it was delicious. I will definitely be returning.
google avatar

Natalie M.

Yelp
All the food in Portland have been great. What better way to start your morning than with a breakfast burrito. They offer 2 types. A vegetarian option and chorizo. The chorizo was so delicious and fresh with the cheese, potatoes and eggs. The tomatillo and pineapple habanero sauce are so good. This is very filling! Enough for breakfast and lunch. Overall, loved the freshness of the sauces and the ingredients. Would definitely try the lunch options too!
google avatar

Daniel F.

Yelp
I tried this place as it was dubbed the "best burrito in Oregon." I am a Burritophile and wound up being disappointed. It was good, but the best in Oregon? That is not saying much. I ordered the chicken burrito, and it was good but not great.
google avatar

Andrew A.

Yelp
The Bean and Cheese burrito was a pleasant surprise, the taste is usually somewhat standard. Grilled jalapeños provide a tasty compliment. I craved a low end snack and this sufficed on price and quantity.
google avatar

Gertrude V.

Yelp
Service is great and food is bomb. If you're ordering for pickup, don't do it online. There's a $2 upcharge on everything if you order online. Even if you're not having it delivered. Their carne asada burrito has tomato-based salsa in it even though the online description and hand-written i -person description doesn't state it. They were nice enough to remake it when I verbally verified. There was no option to make this note when ordering online.
google avatar

Libby H.

Yelp
Best burritos in town. Love this place and the vibe of the cart pod. My favorite is the carnitas.
google avatar

Benjamin C.

Yelp
Tuna: seared perfectly Hot Sauce: Arbol is dank but they have options Burritos: honestly maybe go bowl route with tortillas on the side? either way, all hits no misses

Yelp
One of my favorite places for Mexican food in Portland. They truly have the best burritos in town, and they are better than anything in Washington County where I live. Worth the drive to Portland and Pod 28 is a cute little place to eat. All of the ingredients at Saint Burrito are fresh and the food is clearly prepared with love and care. Fantastic vegetarian options, and they let you customize however you want your food. The salsas are hot, the chips are fresh and crisp, and the burritos are huge, filling and DELICIOUS. On my most recent visit my friend got the pork burrito bowl and she said it was the best pork she's had anywhere. This place is a gem and I love their food. Sorry the burrito photo is pretty boring, but it's hard to take a great photo of a burrito!
google avatar

Heather R.

Yelp
Saint Burrito was a great choice for a tasty lunch. It's a food cart located in the Pod 28 Laurelhurst Food Carts. There are plenty of tables outside to sit at after you order. I got a carnitas burrito. I added on cheese and grilled jalapeños which cost a little extra. The service was friendly and the burrito was wrapped tightly. It was heavily stuffed. I thought the cabbage and green chili crema put the burrito over the top. It was so delicious. The carnitas meat was flavorful too and there were plenty of each component. Overall, I loved my burrito and I recommend trying out that cart for yourself.

Yelp
Amongst my absolute favorite food in pdx. It's simply just well made meals. I typically go for the tuna burrito with the addition of the chips, salsa and guacamole, plus 2 of their pineapple habanero salsa (one is never enough, duh). The staff is always friendly, service is fast, and the ingredients are fresh year round. Also, they're one of the most reliable food carts around, they stick to their hours that are listed online and never seem to have to close unexpectedly which I appreciate. The cart is nestled in on se 28th, between burnside and stark along with some other delicious food carts with plenty of seating and a fire pit for when it gets cold.

D L.

Yelp
I wanted to go here today, but I could find no parking anywhere near. I believe a restaurant needs to provide access if it expects a good review. Since there is none, they would probably do better to find a different location.

Kyra R.

Yelp
Extremely mid. Definitely the work of caucasians. Waiting for a Portland burrito rec to actually hit.
google avatar

Bambi B.

Yelp
I'm still thinking about my favorite burrito I ever had, and it was from here, carnitas! The chicken one I had the day prior ruled, too. I wanted to try other food while visiting Portland for the first time, but kept being lured back to the siren song of Saint Burrito. Cool ambiance/beer garden, sweet staff, great salsas, introduced me to cabbage slaw in a burrito. Smuggled some home and set off security but they just laughed. I will 100% be back next time I'm in Portland. Slurp

Yelp
First time here I loved it. We got the veggie burrito and the bean & cheese with chicken added. The tortillas taste so fresh! Second time here, the 35 minute waiting period with only 1 order in front of us was annoying but not a reason not to return. The real problem was that guacamole was a like licking a salt block. Then I tasted the burrito and it was so salty it was also inedible. Still the true reason not to return was that we watched the cooks and only one wore gloves. I was shocked to watch the cook PICK UP FOOD WITH HIS BARE HANDS AND PUT IT ON THE GRILL AND THEN WIPE HIS HANDS ON HIS SHORTS. He continued to touch food and then wipe his hands on his street clothes over and over. Also, I'm pretty sure they're supposed to wash their hands before they touch food.

Yelp
Wonderful chicken burritos when I'm in the Laurelhurst area. Very friendly and quick. Great house salsa too!
google avatar

Monica W.

Yelp
It's a good gringa burrito. Hot sauce is awesome

Yelp
Dang this is good. They can whip up some tasty treats in this little food truck. I had the Burrito bowl with pork and it was spot on. Loved the beans, the kick from the salsa, and the pork was PERFECT. The side of arbol salsa had a ton of flavor and a nice kick. Chips and guac were solid but would love to have it come with all three of their salsas so that you can taste them all. Fish tacos were delish! I love that the albacore was seared and simply but nicely flavored with lime. I will definitely be back.

Jade S.

Yelp
Chicken burrito felt lackluster, not very flavorful, chicken was a bit dry. The service was great from the one person working the stand, he was very kind.

Vanessa M.

Yelp
Friendly service, fresh and delicious food, I had the seared veggie burrito bowl. yum!
google avatar

Heather L.

Yelp
The chicken burrito. That is what you need to remember. Super yummy and saucey, not dry at all. I prefer the chicken burrito to the other things that I have tried. Be prepared to wait. Even though this is a cart, this is no secret.

Yelp
okay, let me just start off by saying this place is not just cute! it's GOOD!! I've tried other Mexican spots in the area and have been pretty disappointed, so I was a little skeptical about this place too. But it was delicious! I forgot to take a picture of the actual food but I got a veggie burrito and added grilled onions and chicken to it. I also took home some of their pineapple habanero and tomatillo salsa, both were very good! The portions are pretty big as well! Can't wait to go back! Thanks Saint Burrito, keep killing it
google avatar

Ashley A.

Yelp
Ordered in the evening not long before closing. Pork burrito was flavorless and cold when served.
google avatar

Yelp
Since our favorite Latin restaurant quit the biz we've been trying to find someone to fit the bill. Although they don't offer all the dishes we loved for sure they are our go to burrito place in a town filled with boring burritos. The real star is the seasonal vegetables which they grill and the pork we've gotten is never a greasy soggy mess. I hope at some point they offer breakfast burritos again and someday a fish or shrimp burrito. (They do have fish tacos which are great too!)

Yelp
Stopped by the food truck late at night. I forget what time, but they were happy to serve and cheerful. It was exactly what I was looking for, late night eats, well lit food truck courtyard, and there was a beer truck next door, but I didn't have one. It was a nice option to have though. I was riding the Nike bikes and wanted to wash my hands before eating a burrito with my hands.... the water station for washing your hands was out of water. I told the guy at the food truck and he happily investigated (as opposed to being frustrated that some guy was asking him to do extra work at the end of his shift) and he got the beer truck guy to give him a hose and he filled up the water station. The whole process was GREATLY appreciated. People in Portland are nice. Anyway, got my hands washed, slammed the burrito with their hot sauce (It was good, but it was hot, it made me work up a pretty good sweat) and I was good to go. Stop by if you are in the area, they did a really nice job with the food truck courtyard. One word that sums it up is quaint.

Yelp
Very pleasant surprise. I went to the cart pod thinking I'd get a final falafel from Wolf & Bear, but it turned out they closed early on their final day in business. So I tried Saint Burrito for the first time instead. I usually think good Mexican food in Portland only comes from carts on the outskirts of town. (This is a cart, but kind of a fancy-hipster one, an old aluminum travel trailer -- looks cool but didn't seem to promise authentic Mex food.) I also prefer tacos (corn tortillas), and this place specializes in burritos (flour) of course. But I enjoyed it and I will return. They don't provide a rap at the site or online about how they make them, but I think the tortillas are housemade or at least made by someone who knows what they're doing! They are thin and stretchy and with charred spots, similar to the ones I used to get at a few places in Arizona decades ago (the only time I would regularly eat burritos). I didn't feel like meat. They have a veggie burrito on the menu but instead I ordered a bean-and-cheese and added grilled veggies for a buck. It was big and messy and yummy. They offer three hot sauces, in the three typical Mexican-hot-sauce colors, green, red and orange. As a pepper freak I usually go for the orange (habanero) at most places. The orange here is good and plenty hot, includes pineapple. But I tried all three and actually preferred the red, made with chile de arbol. All three were fairly hot, so if you're a wuss be careful! All tasted fresh and different from one another and from other restaurants' sauces. The staff was friendly, and it's right next to a good beer truck. Overall a fine place to eat.
google avatar

Katie M.

Yelp
This place is legit, but the carnitas were a bit dry. Smallish burritos just in case you're hoping for something bigger.
google avatar

Rachel D.

Yelp
Pretty darn good burrito. It's a little more expensive than your typical Mexican burrito but it's a little bit of a fusion food. The carnitas was juicy and tender and everything else in the burrito went nicely with the meat. The spicy pineapple habanero is no joke though.
google avatar

Mondo F.

Yelp
Healthy Mexican food options here. We enjoyed our first visit. Both of us enjoyed the veggie burrito. Good mix of veg, flavorful, good size, reasonable cost. A little slower than most carts, but you're getting really good food. The salsas are quite spicy - be warned. When this cart pod gets busy you'll have a tough time finding a place to sit and you might have to wait. Consider coming by bike or foot b/c parking near here can be tricky.
google avatar

Jacques Q.

Yelp
Love that they grill the tortillas on their burritos. The tortillas are excellent and fresh tasting and I wouldn't be surprised if they were made in house. They have that nice char from the grill when they come out. I'm a bean, cheese and rice burrito Kinda buddy and of the many BCRs I've had, they're always exemplary. They don't actually sell a BCR on their menu, and they should because it's a fan favorite, but instead sell a bean and cheese burrito, which I've also gotten. The beans were quite runny on their own, spilling out of the burrito a bit, but with the addition of rice it thickens the consistency to perfection. The price is fair, and while I can't speak to other menu items, my friends have always enjoyed their meals too. The salsas are all great and authentic. The service is chill and they will come find you in the patio. Speaking of the ambiance, this is one of my favorite little food cart pod spots. They've got a great box truck mini bar with art deco pendant lights (an ambiance plus) and a fire pit right next to Saint Burrito. Great value and perfect low key spot for a casual bite.

V S.

Yelp
Great place! I had the seared veggie bowl, my lunch partner had the carnitas burrito. Both were perfectly spiced. Truly exceptional.
google avatar

Tzena H.

Yelp
Best burrito in town hands down! Although sometimes they sell out and I want to be selfish soooo ugh it's the worst don't go there.

Estela F.

Yelp
It's so good I have not been able to try anything else on the menu. The tuna bowl is perfection. The mix of cabbage, grilled veggies, guac, sour cream, tasty tasty rice and the marinated seared tuna is unreal. And for Portland Mexican, the habanero sauce is actually spicy! I want to give it 5 stars but since I haven't tried anything else because the one thing is so good, I can only go 4.
google avatar

Alexis C.

Yelp
Yummy burritos!!! Definitely add the veggies (if you like vegetables), and I got guacamole on the side (absolutely worth it). There is another cart that has hard cider (or beer), and a cute little fire pit to sit around if you decide to eat there. Definitely recommend!!
google avatar

Doug J.

Yelp
Nice , tasty , somewhat expensive burritos ... add sour cream or guac for the price might help... seems reasonable for a $10 burrito, I mean this isn't SOMA San Francisco man.. come on. In 3/4 of the USA a good taco truck will give you a burrito and a BJ (bueno Jalisco) for $9! Can we do better Saint Burrito? ... Ill bet ya can.
google avatar

Joey K.

Yelp
Great food. I've had the pork bowl and veggie burrito and both have been delicious. Definitely recommended.

Stephen K.

Yelp
Fast service and the food was great! Got the chicken burrito with grilled onions and jalapeños.
