How a D.C's Sleepbox Compares to Japan’s Famous Sleeping Pods - AFAR

"A New York property in the Pod chain that approaches the capsule idea but functions more like an overpriced tiny hotel room; it barely qualifies as a micro-hotel and can cost around $225 per night, which the reviewer considered not worth it." - Mike Arnot

Google
Pros: -location, if you’re looking for the bustle of Times Square. -price! Quite reasonable rates, lowest in the area. -for such a busy area, I was shocked at how quiet it was! -very close to big Apple market which we loved The gray: -room is adequate size for husband and I, but I could see the bathroom being an issue for anyone over 6’ when sitting on the toilet. Bathroom is certainly a one person area. -the bed, you can only walk along one side, so you have to climb in from the one side, or go over the end (we had a queen room) -only one of two, working elevator from ground floor to lobby. Cons: -NYC forced construction in place on the east wall of the building, M-F, 9-5. The recommendation is to keep shades drawn. -speaking of shades, they are not room darkening by any means, so you’ll be up with the sun, bring a mask. -our bathroom shower drain was not cleaned. The hair there was not either of ours, and the handheld part had black mold on the sprayer in the rubber substrate. So that’s why I only have 4 stars. Given all of the above, the pros outweigh the cons, and I plan to stay there again next time I am in the city.

Google
We loved staying here! It was very clean and quite serviceable for a tiny space. It felt fresh and well appointed. The water pressure in the shower left something to be desired but for the price and location, it was totally worth it. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. Would absolutely stay here again and will recommend whenever I can!

Google
Pros: Great location and affordable. Very clean. Pleasant, helpful staff. I asked for two more towels and a washcloth. Within minutes, they were brought to my door. Shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were all provided. Super comfortable bunk beds. Very quiet. Street noise did not bother us at all, nor could we hear any noise from our neighbors (although I guess I can’t be sure we had any!) Cons: very small room, but that’s typical for NYC. Interior hallways are quite dark, undecorated, and with metal doors to the rooms, it almost looks prison-like. Or maybe like a corridor on the Death Star. Shower curtain did not reach low enough to keep water in. Extra bath mats were needed to keep floor dry. Good thing soap and shampoo were provided in dispensers in the shower because there was no shelf in there to put anything I brought. One of the two elevators to the lobby was broken for the duration of our stay. I hope it doesn’t sound like I’m complaining, because our stay here was really very pleasant. I would absolutely stay here again. I just felt I should mention these things because it’s definitely a no-frills kind of place (there’s not even a backup roll of toilet paper in the bathroom) and things like that might be a turn-off for others.

Google
this was my second time staying at this hotel, and once again, it did not disappoint! the rooms are modern and clean. (and yes, small, but that’s what you’re signing up for with this hotel - personally i think the small size is great, less area for you to misplace anything!) there’s a nice lounge area by the check in area that’s perfect for relaxing. the location is amazing - it’s a very short walk into times square where there are many different stores and restaurants. overall, i would highly recommended this hotel.

Google
We got a bunker bed room. It was a little tight in space, but that was what we expected for the price we paid. The room was clean. The interior design was space-efficient. We were able to move around after settling down with two large luggages. Great choice for relative affordability, considering it is at the heart of Manhattan. Perfect location as a base to explore the great city. Literally only a few blocks to Time Square. The staff were friendly. Overall, great experience! The only thing I don’t like was the hefty “resort fee” since there is nothing about a “resort”.

Google
Was super easy to find and the location is perfect — you can’t beat it if you want to be in NYC. The staff was honestly incredible: so helpful and genuinely went above and beyond for me. The lobby, elevators, and hallways all looked and smelled clean, which is huge for me. Yes, the room is small — you’re not getting a giant suite — but it was spotless, modern, and updated with a luxury feel. Plenty of space for 1-2 people and super comfortable. The price was amazing too (definitely book on their direct website) and you can use a debit or credit card with no problem. 18+ which is nice — and honestly, this is the only place I’ll stay in NYC from now on!

Google
Loved the room, excellent budget stay, I only wish it had a mini fridge, but it was perfect for a two person trip. Towels and services were on point, and the room was extremely clean and soundproof, i couldn't hear a thing with the blinds closed. Would stay again and recommend to others!!

Google
Stayed here for one night before getting on a cruise the following day, when we got there I was given a free room upgrade which was amazing given I had booked the bunkbed room because it was the cheapest. The rooms are very small and the bathroom is frosted glass so definitely no real privacy😂 but you can’t beat the price and location in Times Square. The bar and lounge is beautiful and the elevator is secure through your room card. 100% will be staying here again when I come to NYC

Yelp
A fost foarte frumos . Camera curată , vedere spre oraș , servicii de calitate , check-in rapid .

Yelp
This hotel is all you need for a trip to NYC. The location is very good, close to many tourist attractions, the room is small but you don't need more and it is clean which is important. I recommend! Oh and the view from the top is wonderful at night

Yelp
I took an overnight trip to NYC for a concert at MSG and somehow found this little gem of a place while searching the Internet. Location 5/5 Pod Times Square is conveniently located on 42nd and 9th, just a 10 minute walk from Moynihan Train Station and an even shorter walk to Port Authority. Times Square is only a block away, yet the area immediately around the hotel is relatively quiet in comparison to that bustling hustle! Plenty of amenities all around, too! Service 5/5 I arrived at Pod about an hour and a half before my scheduled check-in time, thinking I would only be dropping off my suitcase, but the front desk receptionist happily offered to check me into my room early, which was awesome. Everyone I encountered throughout my stay was friendly and hospitable. Hotel 5/5 I'd like to note here that Pod is not a huge, luxurious hotel with roomy guest quarters, as the name would imply. I chose a bunk room, which, as you would imagine, had bunk beds. The room was compact, yet comfortable for one person, and had all of the amenities one would need for a comfortable and affordable place to sleep for a night or two. I will definitely consider Pod on future trips to NYC.

Yelp
To say I loved staying here would be an understatement. It's situated right near time square and it is within walking distance to so many things. Not to mention everyone who works there is incredibly nice. Now keep in mind it's called the pod hotel for a reason. The rooms are small but actually quite cute. My husband and I stayed in the full room and it was more than enough. The room we stayed in was on the nineteenth floor and had a pretty good view. The bed was comfortable and the layout was quite clear. It has everything you need; a comfortable bed, bathroom and space to put your luggage. The bathroom also has this cool frosted glass layout so you can't see someone in the shower within the bedroom. The hotel has a restaurant attached and it is just meh kind of Italian food. 10/10 I would stay here again.

Yelp
The cheapest around time square, clean, modern. It was small, but good enough for both of us. Only thing that was a bummer was that the coffee was not free, we didn't even know. Update: Keep in mind they do service fee every day you stay, which kinda sucks because we never used them during our stay.

R B.

Yelp
Great price and room was comfortable I would stay their again good customer service and maid cleaning as well

Yelp
They neglected to mention that there is only a SHARED TOILET AND SHOWER and the room m is pretty much the size of your body.

Yelp
The location absolutely makes this place. I think it's technically closer to Hell's Kitchen than Times Square, but it's super convenient. Basically at 9th/42nd. You're a long block from the A/C/E line, about 2 to 1/2/3 and most of the orange letters. You're across the street from the bus terminal, maybe 1/2 mi from the train station and Madison Square Garden. I was traveling alone, so I booked the cheapest room (bunks) but they upgraded me to a full without charging extra, so that was nice. The view was excellent. The bed was okay, though I would have liked a thicker blanket. It's the usual quality for a budget place. The water got surprisingly hot in the small bathroom. Speaking of the bathroom, it is tiny and the door is designed not to close completely. So you need to be really comfortable with whoever you're with if you're not traveling alone. Also, for the same reason, bring Febreze or something. If you don't stink up the toilet, you'll probably get a stale water smell from where the shower doesn't drain completely. Again, if you're used to budget places, nothing new. I got a fantastic deal here, so if I can get anywhere near that price again, I will stay here again. Nice staff, nice location, felt safe.

Yelp
A 3 star because customer service says alot about the hotel . Rooms are small but very clean . The pillows were awful ! Please get new ones . One of them was in shreds! Anywho the employee lady that checked me didn't tell me anything no instructions nothing . I work at a hotel and I always make sure all guests know where everything is . It was just me so she had time . One of the main things was how to use the key to get up to your room . Other guest were telling how it worked . Than another guest / male was not friendly either ! I asked for the checked out he said 12 with out turning to look at me ! Didn't like that at all . Hire more people with GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

Yelp
I only have good things to say about the Pod. The only reason why I'm not giving 5 stars is bc it's a little frustrating going from the lobby to the ground floor everyday and that it was loud at night... But it's Time Square so that's expected. The price is great, service was good, the room was cute and it felt fun to stay there. Everything was clean, necessities were there, bed was comfy. I would definitely recommend! Great location if you're seeing a Broadway show.

Yelp
I was doing a three-day vacation in New York city and was looking for a place to stay that wouldn't break the bank. The Pod absolutely delivers. This five-star rating is to rate the hotel for what it is, i.e., an affordable place to stay in one of the most visited tourist destinations surrounded by some of the most expensive real estate on the planet Earth. So yes, the rooms are small, but they're small because if you're on vacation in New York City, you're not going to be spending a whole lot of time in the hotel. Rooms are clean and neat, which is definitely important for a cheap hotel. The hotel itself is a walk of about two blocks from Times Square and all of the major tourist destinations, while also lying just south of Hell's Kitchen. There's a good hotel bar at the lobby level as well. Each room has a safe if you want someplace to stash valuables like a passport, tablet, etc., and setting the combination is super-easy and intuitive. All told, if you're looking for an affordable place to stay in Manhattan and don't mind a small room, the Pod is your best bet.

Yelp
Near theatre district and easy walking to casual restaurants and some shopping. We have stayed a number of times. Always clean and good for the $$. If you are just sleeping there, it's perfect. My only concern is that the shelf above the bathroom sink is very close and you can hit your head when brushing your teeth!

Yelp
My stay at Pod Times Square for work was positive. It is an affordable hotel, and I found it to be comfortable. I slept well, and everything was clean and relatively maintained. I would stay there again.

Nakiessa B.

Yelp
This was our second stay here! Great location and really nice staff. It was my 8yr old son and I and they very kind and interactive with him. The rooms here are very small, but when your in NYC hotels are basically for showering and sleeping...They are very clean and well kept. There's not a lot of extras but there's a great convenience store next door and a bar for some evening drinks and snacks. Hotel felt very secure as you needed your room key to get to your floor. Can't wait to visit here again!

Yelp
As a prior Pod guest, I know what to expect: no frills in a small space. I'm always kind of amused by reviewers who book a "pod" and then complain about a tiny room. This hotel is not in the heart of Times Square. It's about a 20 minute walk from Grand Central right down 42nd St, passing Bryant Park and plenty of tourist traps along the way. Expect lots of foot traffic and crowds. Once in the building, you take a glass elevator up a couple floors to the lobby. We received early check in, which was great. I appreciated the secure entry - no one without a room key gets past the lobby. Our room on the 13th (!) floor was pretty quiet considering the location. The shower was great. The pillows were crap, but the beds were comfortable. Keep in mind, the ladder for the upper bunk is very steep and hard on bare feet, and definitely requires some coordination. Bonus: A grocery store is right around the corner on 9th (I have reviewed Big Apple Meat Market separately). We would have loved a mini fridge, but otherwise we had everything we needed for a one night stay. After checkout they offered free luggage storage, so we were able to explore for a couple of hours without being tied to our bags. A solid four stars. Yes, I would stay here again.

Yelp
This was our first pod style experience and it was amazing! My wife and I aren't typically used to these styles of hotels as we like to side on more upscale hotels. My wife had watched a travel show depicting experiences in Asia where pods are more prevalent and she wanted us to try too. The room is very small but I can't say that it was an issue. It made the experience a lot more intimate and made us feel very fortunate. The room itself was VERY CLEAN. This is why I always lean towards more expensive hotels because dirty rooms and bathrooms are my pet peeves. The restroom and shower here was extremely clean. The water heated up immediately! It was even snowing outside and sub 10 degrees. Yet the shower had no issue heating up. I read a few reviews of other hotels in time square in the same price range and there were horror stories of water not heating up or just extremely dirty hotels. We're definitely going to keep our eyes out for more pod style hotels moving forward. They're so cute, clean and just out right bang for your buck! Imagine a Venetian suite(las Vegas) experience but just shrunken down. This is going to sound gross, but is the only real issue if you are traveling with a partner. Since the room is so small and the restroom walls have a few inches to the ceiling for ventilation purposes, when you go number 2 your partner will smell all your lovely aromas . -- PS -- These photos are stills from my instagram story video so they're not the best quality. We were up and about the entirety of our trip so I didn't get time to take more quality pictures.

Yelp
I was looking through the options of hotels in Manhattan, NYC, and this is the one I've picked based on the 1.) price 2.) location 3.) modernness. This hotel is located around the Hell's Kitchen area, and there are a decent amount of restaurants nearby. There was also a CVS nearby to grab your basic necessities. The subway is also a walking distance away. I watched two Broadway shows when I was in NYC, and it was nice to be able to walk directly to my hotel afterward instead of taking the subway past 10 P.M. I would say walking to my hotel late at night didn't feel exactly safe, but there was always a decent amount of people still walking, even though it was on a later side. When you enter the ground floor, you will need to take one of the two elevators to the lobby of the hotel. When you land in the lobby, there is a small waiting lounge on the right-hand side, and the elevators and the bar on the left-hand side. I saw some reviews pointing out they had heard noise from the bar on the lower levels, so I specifically asked for a higher level room at the receptionist. The hallways to the rooms are relatively narrow, but I can drag my 50 lbs luggage with no problem, as long as I have no one standing next to me. As expected for NYC, the room itself was on a longer, narrower side. I would say the bedrooms are moderately clean. I have chosen the bunk bed rooms. The mattress itself felt fine, but the blankets provided were not of a typical hotel standard. I went to NYC when it was warmer, but I wonder how it would be sufficient in the wintertime. Each bed has its TV console, but I have rarely used it. The Wi-Fi can be spotty sometimes, but generally, no big issues. The restroom on the other hand... I had some problems. 1st, there was no ventilation, so if you're doing a no.2, you might be able to smell it, lol. Also, the bathroom floors took way longer to dry than other hotels I've been at. Also, for some reason, it would take a while for the water to drain in the showers. But based on the other reviews I saw, no one else had this problem, so I believe mine was a special scenario. Will I stay here again? Maybe. If I have a higher budget and I am only staying for a short-term period, probably not. FYI, housekeeping is on a request basis only.

Yelp
If you've ever been on a cruise ship then you are prepared for a stay at Pod Times Square. Tiny rooms, but very well appointed. My sister and I had a bunk bed room. The ladder is not the easiest or most comfortable for climbing if you are an adult. The rungs are very narrow and not easy on bare feet (which you normally are when going to bed). The beds themselves each have a TV (although we could only get one remote to work); a little electronic cubby that has a plug and 2 USB ports, and a small light. The beds also have a padded back for sitting (which, as the rooms are very tiny, you spend time sitting on your bed as well). The bathroom has a nice size shower, with dual heads, and a compact sink. We did have issues with the sink clogging and it took a couple of requests to have that fixed. The hotel is in a great location, only a couple of blocks from the huge Penn Station for busses and subway usage. Times Square is within walking distance as well. I found the front desk staff, for the most part, to be polite and efficient. I did ask for the room to be vacuumed, but it was the "off" day for vacuuming, so it didn't get done at all during our stay. We had eaten in the room a couple of times and the carpet being black it really needed a vacuum after a day or so. I wasn't aware it had to be requested only on specific dates (still not sure where I would have found that info). I would have given it a higher star rating except for the vacuum and the fact that I saw them bump young single people to a larger room, but when I requested it, we were told no. We are two older ladies, and a Queen would have been easier on the back, but such is life. The doormen/security seemed to have an affinity for the younger, hipper crowd too. Oh well, we had a lovely trip and didn't let that dampen our spirits.

Yelp
we stayed for four nights in a queen room... the doors are paper thin and you can hear everything happening in the hallways- it was hard to sleep just due to the hallway noises some nights. Our shower was COVERED in mold, our shampoo/conditioner/body wash in our shower was not filled before we came.. a letdown for sure. one nice thing is the location and the staff at the front desk are helpful and nice
google avatar

Tony W.

Yelp
OK the room is small, and it was a little more pricey than I had hoped for, but those are the only two small quibbles. Everything else was great. The room was very clean. The beds were comfortable. The shower was spacious and hot. The location is absolutely perfect. The staff was friendly the elevators were fine, I truly was impressed and enjoying the stay. I'm here for two more nights. It's fairly quiet considering its location. The main noise is peoples door slamming in the morning when they're leaving rooms but I'm right near traffic and I can barely hear it I totally recommend if you just want place to stay that's clean and close to everything you wanna do I would stay here again!

Yelp
Husband and I had a pleasant stay at the Pod Times Square. We reserved a cancellable queen pod way before NY re-opened to the world and got a great deal for $80/nt. It is on 42nd Ave, 3 blocks to Times Square and right next to the Port Authority subway station. There's a 7-11, Dunkin Donuts, kebab place & Chinese restaurant in front. They were good about replying to my questions about airport/subway directions from JFK. We were also able to check in and get into our room early. Thank you Mila. The room (1714) is small, very similar to a cruise ship cabin, but we enjoyed the view, shower pressure and overall security in the building despite the homeless situation in the general area. I highly recommend this hotel to first-timers to the city: really close to hop-on hop-off buses and the buzzing Times Square area. They also have free walking tours that meet in the 4th floor lobby.
google avatar

Joyce T.

Yelp
Water, no. Drinking fountain, no. Water bottles refill station, no. Cleaning the room, no. Microwave, no. Fine, can I go to your pantry to get my food reheated? No. Two tv on the bunk bed room but only one remote control working. Safe box is not working. Call housekeeping, all the time the line is busy. Stay during labor day long weekend, the rate is outrageous. Upon checkout, do you have luggage room to temporary stores my luggage? No. Not worth it.

Jen P.

Yelp
I stayed here for 3 nights on my own and felt very safe. The room was small but very efficient and clean! The bathroom was large and the provided shampoo, conditioner, and body wash were plentiful and actually pretty good quality. With this location, the price can't be beat. I walked by myself after watching theater shows each night and had no issues. Would definitely stay here again.
google avatar

Mark N.

Yelp
Clean as a whistle, awesome location, quiet, efficient staff and excellent HVAC. Excellent spot with SO many restaurants and bars within walking distance. The only downside was small (tiny) room. I know NYC hotel rooms are small but this takes small to a new level! Still, we enjoyed our stay and we're right where we wanted to be in a clean and safe hotel. Beds have a blanket between 2 sheets versus comforter. Cold winter night yet our room was warm. Turned heat off because it was noisy and room got warmer (but quiet)! Really liked it here will be back.
google avatar

Yelp
We wanted something simple for our short, weeklong trip to New York, and this was perfect for it! It's centrally located, simple, and gets the job done. We really did enjoy our stay there, and even ordering food to the hotel was easy. I also liked that they have walking tours and everything in case you came to New York without any real plans! The room itself was decent, but the sink didn't drain super well, and the shower glass was translucent, so you could actually kinda see someone taking a shower. Other than that, though, our stay itself as pretty good. While we were checking out, we wanted a receipt and that process took a while, but overall, I'd definitely be back if I needed something quick and easy for a few nights in NYC!

Yelp
Interesting place. Tiny room but exactly what I was looking for. Bed and a bathroom. Great midtown location. Expensive but what isn't in NYC. No ice machine anywhere. No real amenities obviously but I'd have no problem staying here again.

Yelp
We recently went on a spontaneous and quick NYC trip. Because we're saving for our wedding and planned this trip last minute, we did some searching for budget friendly travel options. We're never ones to skimp out on hotels so I was initially hesitant to book with Pod because of how fair the prices were and how upfront they were about the size of the room and the minimalistic amenities our room would offer. Lo and behold, to my surprise I realized I didn't need all those amenities I typically pay for at other hotels. Pod was perfect for us as we were just using the room to sleep while we explored the city all day and night. The rooms are kept very clean and everything was so practical - every square foot of our room had a purpose and it just made sense. Customer service was great and everyone was very friendly. Additional Pros: - on our last day of our trip we were able to leave our belongings with the front desk because our flight was not until 9pm - they have group tours - beds were very comfortable - walking distance to many things - city view is amazing - again, their staff! A few Cons: - the only thing that I didn't find clean enough to use was the shampoo, conditioner and body wash they offer. It's great they don't use a bunch of little plastic bottles but the nozzles looked very crusty and the bottles really need to be replaced. I ended up buying toiletries and bringing it back to the hotel - the room gets cold at night and the sheet on the bed is not thick enough to keep you warm - I ended up putting an additional hoodie and socks on - no shuttle from airport to hotel and vice versa

May B.

Yelp
Nice hotel but it saddens me that there is no ice machine and no place to refill water besides going to the bar. It was a bit of a hassle trying to refill our hydro flask at the bar . We also went to the bar for happy hour which was nice and convenient since it was raining but the bar doesn't serve any food bc they have no kitchen . Other than that, the staff was very friendly, the ambiance was nice and the rooms were very clean.

Elen C.

Yelp
Get value for the price, friendly enough check in staff, super location convenient to the subway, several great restaurants, plays, the fashion district, and much more. Just a bed and bathroom but all you need if you're out enjoying NYC. They do not clean daily unless you request in advance. Bar area for drinks but sadly no food. Recommend a room higher up to avoid traffic noise. Later check out and bag check availability.

Yelp
Stayed here one night while in town for a show. It was a 8 minute walk from the bus station. The reception staff member was friendly and welcoming. You need a key card to access the elevator which made me feel safe as a solo female traveler. My room was on the 18th floor so could not hear any street level noise. The bed was comfy and there were charging ports within reach. Overall the hotel seemed very clean and my room itself was spotless with fresh linens when I arrived. Felt like a steal to say so close to Times Square for less than $150. Would absolutely stay here again.

Kimberly B.

Yelp
My particular AWFUL negative experience was an outlier (hopefully), so I'll lead with the other information. The room is adequate size for a single traveler and has all the basics covered. If you are a larger person, you may feel cramped, particularly in the shower. The shower temperature and pressure was good. The bed was okay, but on the firmer side and the sheets are pretty thin. The in-room AC control is responsive and does a good job at warming or cooling the room. All the amenities are modern and appear recently updated - I used the gym twice, which has cardio equipment, dumbbells, and a cable machine. Now, as for my negative experience. This was SO BAD it ruined my entire trip. On the headboards, there are two reading lights that are operated by releasing pressure from a button (the light lifts to turn on). These lights are BRIGHT and point directly down at the pillows. One of the lights on my headboard was broken, which caused it to randomly light up. I complained about this the night I arrived, and the front desk sent a man who used a piece of duct tape to hold the button in place. He said he'd have someone come the following morning to fix it (which did not happen). The following night, the tape lifted and my sleep was ruined by being flashbanged by the reading light. It must've gone off 6-7 times. I got NO SLEEP at all. I complained a second time and was finally relocated to a new room. I was only in New York for 48 hours, and I spent half of that time completely sleep deprived. Trip RUINED.

Yelp
Clean. Quiet. I was on the17th floor and heard no street noise. Room got cool enough with a/c. Very good value for the price. I stayed 1 night for $200.

Yelp
What a cute hotel. I've stayed at similar hotels before but this one has the other ones best. Compact rooms for a bargain price but very clean and lighting was nice and bright. Convenient location to Times Square. Will stay here again.

Yelp
Very small. Just note it does not have a fridge. It does have a safe, shower, bed, and a nice view! As well a small place to hang clothes with 4 hangers. We stayed for 6 nights and housekeeping cleaned 2x.

Yelp
If simple, clean living is more important than the way you are treated, this is the place for you! The two main receptionists of this establishment (David R and Shantel) berated my entire family upon our entry into the hotel, forcing me to pay in an unorthodox method and humiliating me financially in front of other staff and customers. David R's insolent attitude and abhorrent character immediately made me uncomfortable for my safety and emotional well-being during my stay at the pod. Additionally, housekeeping will not clean or bring any fresh towels unless they are directly asked. I could tell I was not the first person he had treated this way, and I certainly won't be the last. If management ever reads this, do yourself a favor and avoid a lawsuit by firing the disconsolate man who single-handedly ruined my stay. And re-train Shantel while you're at it. David R, if you ever read this, you are a joke of a man, and no one respects you.

Yelp
Perfect location for Broadway theaters; great in every respect except that Pod has joined other NYC hotels in the bait-and-switch "facilities fee" which is a shameless shake-down, demanding $23/night on top of the room rate and taxes (what are you going to do; it's not like you can find another hotel on the spot). Why do these hotels have to grift the consumer? Can't wait for Attorney Generals or FTC to shut down the bad practice of NYC facilities fees. Pod rooms are small but well designed; even hip. Spacious shower but took an amazingly long time to get hot water. Pillows were NOT comfortable. Lobby located an elevator ride from the street, so never a quick exit. But lighting was good; lots of outlets; good mirrors. View of Empire State Building was magical.

Yelp
Overall, the hotel is pretty good and I would recommend it if you're visiting NY. The price point is what makes it for me. It's an affordable hotel. I came here in the winter and the shower was not really hot or even warm. That made showering uncomfortable. Times Square is in walking distance. However, everything else was fine and when I return, I will be staying at the Pods again.

Yelp
I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. It is conveniently located, clean and the rooms have just enough space to move around. I wouldn't recommend staying here with someone you don't particularly care for, as the rooms are a tad bit tight. My reasoning for giving four stars is that the housekeeper entered my room TWICE without knocking while I was there and when I complained to the front desk, nothing happened she actually did it again. Very annoying.

Yelp
My boyfriend booked us a overnight date night stay here. It was cool. Location was perfect in the heart of 42nd street. The room are super small literally a Pod but cool for a one night stay for 2. The bar lounge located i. The hotel was pretty empty last night but the music was great. Overall bo complaints. Checking in and out was easy breezy. I would recommend for a 1 night stay.

Yelp
This is a bare bones budget hotel in a great part of town if you want to be near Times Square. I booked a hotel room for 3 nights because I was taking the red eye into the city and wanted to check directly into my room when I arrived at 8 am. I called to let them know that I'd be checking in late and the front desk person on the phone said they will make a note of it and hold my room for me (the one I am paying a full night for!) so that it would be ready when I arrived the next morning. By the time I landed, I got a note from the hotel saying they oversold the hotel and my room type was not available, but they'd offer us a bunk bed room to use when we got in and then they'd move us to the full sized room we paid for. When we got to the hotel around 8 am, I told the front desk person about the message I received and she said they had NO rooms available at that time. What is the point of paying for a hotel room and not having any room available??? To recap, I called the hotel to tell them I was checking in late, they said no prob, we'll hold your room. I get a message when I land in NYC that they don't have my full room, but they'll let me get freshened up and rest in a bunk bed room. When I get there at 8 am they tell me they have NO ROOMS AVAILABLE. To make matters worse, I had to use the hotel restaurant's restroom to get ready and the lighting is so dark in there. This was around 8 am on Friday morning. We checked out on Sunday, but picked up our luggage from hotel storage at 3:30 pm and we asked to use the restroom since their on-site restaurant was closed. They said they don't have a public restroom and that we could use the restroom at the restaurant NEXT DOOR. I cannot even deal. A hotel doesn't even have a public restroom open on their lobby level?? Thank goodness I had my husband with me so he could watch our luggage and carry-ons as I walked into a small French restaurant and up their stairs to use the restroom before our flight home! Does this sound like a hassle? Yeah, cuz it is one!!! I stayed at The Pod once before with no issues. This 2nd time was a real headache. Time to look for a different NYC hotel for our next trip!

Yelp
Sharp edged furniture to bang into in a tiny, clean and functional room. No longer at discount rates; cost same as traditional hotels with regular size rooms in NYC. Eerie dim lit hallways.

Yelp
The Pod is what it is. A very small, budget friendly hotel. Great if you need a clean room in a great location to sleep in. If you are looking for a room to hang out in, this is probably not the best choice. If you are looking for a place close to broadway shows, great restaurants and bars in Hell's Kitchen and 15 minutes via subway to Greenwich Village, this is your jam. We slept there and found it quiet and comfortable with a nice staff.

Yelp
Shame on Them for treating their customers this poorly- they should be deeply embarrassed! I made and PAID for a reservation for 3 days. Got there only to find out they oversold the hotel. They helped find me a room at their sister property and that was it. No cab fare, no compensation for my time, no compensation for coming in late on a Saturday night in the rain and getting pushed to the far east side on the opposite side of town for all my plans. Also, I'm an older person and struggling in and out of taxi's with luggage in times square was difficult. The people at the desk were super nice and said I could come back the next day and they would also pay cab fare. I was certainly not going to take my time to go all the way to the hotel for cab fare. What were they thinking? Shame on them!

Yelp
Convenient location, but terribly unsanitary. Bobby pins and foot/hand prints left from previous guests on the metal frames (bunk beds) were visibly still there. There was also a hairball on my pillow when we arrived to the room. I requested for a new pillow cover and was told they'd bring it up immediately, but they never did. Ladder to the top bunk is also unstable and moves around when coming down. If you choose to stay here, bring sanitary equipment.

Yelp
I booked this hotel on my trip to NYC. I got a private room with twin bed. The hotel is in a good spot where you can walk to a lot of various tourist sites and parts of town if you like to walk. Times Square, Intrepid Museum, Empire State, Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen. It is a little bit of an odd set-up starting with the elevators. You take one up to lobby and then another up to rooms. My room was small but very clean and comfy. I was out a lot so didn't go to sleep. Nice bed and TV to unwind after being out most of the day. I would recommend it to others that want to go to NYC somewhat budget friendly (for NYC) and be close to sites.

Yelp
The staff was polite, super friendly, and even accommodated my last minute request for an early check in the day before! I would describe the space as a SUPER CLEAN, small modern dorm room, which is well-equipped with thoughtful designs (we were ecstatic to see wall hooks and multiple usb charge ports, etc!) The hotel was within walkimg distance to metro and Times Square. We did not spend a lot of time in the hotel so the small space was not an issue- it was definitely good value for our money. 4 star because there was no breakfast on hotel premises. We were given coupons for contimental breakfast in a cafe/grocer nearby but had to stand for my free coffee, bagel and banana.

Yelp
Thought twice about leaving such a positive review because I don't want the prices to go up but I love it here... women at the front desk are amazing ... cleaning ladies absolutely deserve a raise... and then there's these dudes from serafina .... I don't know if it's just two of them or a third .... I honestly couldn't pick them out of a line up so I have no idea... but I do remember it alwaysssss being awkward having to walk by serafina when they're around ... and I stay here often... I guess they don't like how I look since i haven't had any interaction with them and they've been rude on sight of me.... but I look like this because I'm in entertainment. So you do your job which is in hospitality and public service and I'll do mine which is to look the way I do ... I would still recommend this place because the guys at serafina needing to grow up is the least of my problems....

Yelp
I stayed here with my buddy (accidentally) for over a week and we really enjoyed it. It's as bare boned basic as you can get but it was clean, modern, and well kept up. I liked the security of the hotel after dark requiring a key card, and staff always available at the desk. It was very quiet with awesome views of the surrounding city and they even have a small outside deck to have a cup of coffee or whatever. The shower was seriously awesome with good water pressure and lots of coverage. Our bathroom slider door didn't always stay shut but whatever. I liked the amount of power plugs and USB chargers in the room for everything you brought with you and we didn't have any problem with cables. Staff was attentive providing service promptly and towels or whatever each time we asked. The rooms are small there's no doubt, but you don't come to NY to sit in a hotel room. The beds were comfortable and again clean and well kept and price was good considering the location. One suggestion I would make is to change out the ladders to the bunk beds. The rails are way to small and hurt your feet when you're climbing to the top bunk. Otherwise, I'd easily stay here again it was very good!
