Podesto's

This was the second time the sandwich was a disappointment! Hardly any meat!! More vegetables than anything!! It Was supposed to be smoked turkey and it was flavorless. The bread was so hard I could barely bite into it. They used to have good sandwiches! I will not be back! If you want a good sandwich go to Genova Bakery. Yes, it's in the worst part of Stockton but it's worth the drive and you'll get delicious bread and enough meat!! Way better than the disappointing mess at Podestos

I have lived in Stockton for over 20 years, and Podestos has always been known for their quality of products, a specialty store! Unfortunately, since the new ownership has taken over the product quality is not the same! I am sad we no longer have a store in town we can count on for quality products. Mostly the areas that I have noticed that are lacking in quality are, the meat department, produce and the bakery.. The meat department does not look as clean and the service is not the same! I had a very rude young man wait on me a couple of weeks ago, that has never happened in all the years that I’ve been shopping there. The bakery: I have purchased several baked goods that were inedible due to too much salt or stale, Produce: just is not at the standard it once was! But the prices are still outrageous! I always was okay with the higher prices because of the quality, but that is no longer the case. I will not be shopping there, the amount I use too. It’s really too bad, I wonder if others have had this experience as well?

The Down Fall is real. Quality decline. This WAS my favorite place to go to for delightful pastries and a great sandwich. Great food and people. I have been noticing the down fall of the bakery. The stale pastries is real. They look great but are old. I love the apricot and raspberry pockets. They are $19.99lb. After purchasing them i realized they were old. I tried 3 more different times and were stale also. Its like they are days old. So I realized most pastries weren't fresh. I don't recommend anything anymore from a counter there. I would stick with the many varieties of food through out the store. They have a great selection especially for holidays coming up. Workers are still awesome.

Stopped here for lunch because I heard their deli sandwiches are amazing, and I can verify, great sandwiches. What really blows me away is their deli department and their extensive selection of imported and rare cheeses. They also make traditional deli dishes in the store daily, including a stuffed bell peppers, lasagna, and stuffed grape leaves. A superb Italian deli and grocery store.

I specifically come here for the high quality meat they have. Very clean and fresh cuts available.

Looking for the beat of the best look no further. Imported meats and cheese from around the world. Amazing pastries and in the back you can get fresh mad sausage. Friendly and knowledgeable staff that always have a smile when you walk in . They have fresh organic produce and a alcohol aisle. And the beat part for me that is the except EBT food stamps as a form of payment . Great place to step out of the norm.

The store appeared well-maintained and clean. Products are specialty and very expensive. The meat and cheese deli area is quite complete and has a great selection. However, I ordered some items from the bakery. The person behind the counter was nice, but she didn't wash her hands; instead, she used hand sanitizer. She used her bare hands to pick up the items I ordered. She needs to be wearing gloves. I went to the deli counter and ordered mashed potatoes, but I couldn't eat them because they were too salty. I ordered the stew, but unfortunately, I couldn't eat it because it was extremely salty. I ordered the mac and cheese. Horrible. I ordered the fried chicken, and it was very bland. Not worth eating. I ordered a spicy hot dog, but it was tasteless. I ordered a foot-long hot dog, and that was overcooked, burnt, and tasteless. I ordered the tri-tip sandwich, but it was overcooked and came with sweet BBQ sauce cooked into the meat. It wasn't enjoyable, and I had to toss it. You could not chew the meat. I wasted so much money on food that I could not eat. So, listen to me when I say this, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME at this store if you want to buy to-go food.

Everything here is great quality and fresh. Best carrot cake in town. Highest quality items prices are a bit higher but worth every penny. Employees are not very friendly.

We've been coming to Podesto's Market in Stockton for more than 30 years. We love the made to order deli sandwiches, soup and salad bar, fresh produce and most especially the Meat Counter! Just like the old fashioned meat markets of old, but without thumbs on the scales. Wide selection of beef, pork, chicken, seafood, sausages and more. My husband is a former professional cook and swears by their quality. We may be able to find it cheaper elsewhere but the proof is in the flavor and marbling. The meat is nicely trimmed and it's also a great place to get your Thanksgiving turkey, spareribs and tomahawk steaks. A couple photos to illustrate. Good service, selection and a bit pricey but competitive pricing for the most part.

We stopped by after one of my daughter's soccer games to grab some lunch. I used to come here as a kid for their deli sandwiches, and walking in felt just the same as I remembered. The store has the freshest veggies, deli meats, and bakery items. We ordered our sandwiches by filling out the forms with exactly what we wanted, handed them to the deli, and did a little shopping while they were being made. We couldn't resist the bakery, so we picked up cannolis, cookies, and focaccia bread to take home. There's a small seating area inside, so we sat down to enjoy our sandwiches before the drive. They were fresh, delicious, and packed with flavor. On the way home, I tried my Reese's cookie, and it totally hit the spot.

1st time grocery visit! We walked in around 2p on a Sunday - not packed at all. As you first enter the store, it gives a bit of local TJ's vibe- Fresh produce section was a bit confusing at first but after the 3rd veggie bagged, I realized that the "organic" section was on the right side of the store. Anyways, first things first, we decide to walk down the liquor aisle just to check for availability. They have a full rack of See's Candies options closer to the registers with other chocolates. We just needed a few items (veggies, yogurt, rib-eyes & mini Coke cans) for this visit but will be back to check out their hot food / sandwich section.

Whoever is making the tri tip on Thursday afternoons needs some cooking lessons. Overcooked. Overcooked. And tiny pieces. So odd compared to whoever else cooks throughout the week.

They have a new salad bar and awesome soup bar. The clam chowder and the chili was excellent prices & are very reasonable. They offer crackers & bread for a small amount. The salad bar looks to die for & it has crab, quinoa, and so many other good toppings. The salad this time but definitely maybe next time. There is seating area adjacent to the deli where you can sit and eat your lunch with a nice view. It is a self serve, salad and soup bar.

I was in the store and slipped up in the store. They had water on the floor that I didn't see . They lied and said that it wasn't water on the floor. My clothes was wet when I got up. I hurt my knee. They didn't pay me doctor bills. Stay out of this store

Service was great It's been a few years since I bought bread from Podesto's Market, they must have changed their recipe.. I bought 2 ciabatta, 6 dinner/ sandwich rolls that were Podesto's not Genoa They were just as bad as Genoa's if not worse. Completely flattened out no substance to them horrible for sandwiches! I bought 3 eclairs with custard filling It was a solid slab of sugar chocolate, Ganache NOT! on the top. A solid slab of sugar custard it didn't qualify as custard they used to have a mix of custard and real whip cream and do not even ask me about the pastry dough they used! Airy Choux pastry NOT! Last time I buy these items! The store is still clean and pleasant and friendly staff most of the time but today was a disappointment!

Super good deli, every time I'm in the area I eat here . All high quality meat and fresh bread .

I live in Sacramento now, but there are a few places that I make a point to stop at when I'm passing through or visiting friends. Podesto's has an amazing cheese and deli meat section as well as desserts and a well stocked meat counter. We've never done any "regular" grocery shopping here, but tend to stop by when we need items we can't find elsewhere or are making a charcuterie board for a party. The staff can be busy, but in our experience have always been really friendly. One of my favorite things to stop here for is their sandwiches! They get really busy during lunch, but for good reason. The sandwiches are delicious. I typically order the Hodge Podge on Dutch Crunch but will change it up from time to time. The prepared food section is also great, whether you're looking to pick up sides with lunch, a warm lunch or a meal for later they have some great and tasty options. If you see the mac and cheese available, I highly recommend getting some. IT IS SO GOOD! Lincoln Center has plenty of parking, the Podesto's side can get a bit full, but we've always been able to find a spot. They also have some tables if you would like to enjoy your lunch there or meet up with a friend.

Victor, store manager, was so kind to offer us free sandwiches. Went back yesterday and received amazing sandwiches, just like the ones we have purchased before! So glad they listen to their customers. This is the quality I expect. Thank you! Updated photos.

Good store overall. Meat and deli are wonderful. Recently sold to Mar Val and I am not sure I like the changes. Produce seems different and deli service seems exceptionally slow. I see a turnover in employees as well. Still 4 stars, will update in the future. 26 year customer.

Podestos before the sale was 5 stars and now I'm giving them 2 stars. Terrible customer service! The checkers don't greet you at all. Store looks junky and not as clean as it used to be. Where are all of the workers prior to the sale? Don't change something that wasn't broke!

Excellent product choices!! Deli and bakery have great choices. I shop there for specialty items.

6/19/2023 Ohhh how I miss Podesto's.. Especially, the famous..Coffee cake crunch.. It's great to be able to share memories with my son.. We used to have this cake on special occasions.. Picked up some other goodies and a few pastries to take back home. Hot foods and deli also looked good.

Unorganized and confusing when busy. The redheaded girl is aggressive and rude when speaking to customers. It's making sandwiches, relax and be kind to customers. Probably won't return, there are many deli's in this town.

I started coming here because a friend recommended one of their sandwiches, and I'm so glad I did! The service is always fast and friendly, which makes every visit a pleasure. I also appreciate the wide variety of options, especially on the bakery side. My kids absolutely love coming here just to look at the cute cookies. Highly recommend this place!

My husband and I went there for the first time because a friend recommended trying out their deli sandwiches. We filled out the forms, it was unclear where to hand them so I waited in line behind others who were ordering Deli meats. It took forever. Then after we submitted our order we browsed around the store a bit. We made our way back up to the deli counter and it was unclear if our sandwiches were ready or not but I saw several wrapped sandwiches sitting atop a shelf behind the counter. I thought, we must have missed our name being called and the sandwiches must be on the shelf. After making eye contact with the gal who took our tickets several times without any recognition, I proceed again to wait in the deli line just to ask if I had missed my name being called. We waited and waited and no one helped us even after we were up next! It was like they were ignoring us. We ended up leaving sandwich-less which I am very sad about. I also noticed the workers behind the counter do not wear gloves which is just gross. Watching them finger the deli meats with bare hands gives me the willies. I won't be back.

I'm so disappointed in this store right now. I went there today and purchased nectarines and peaches because they were beautiful and big. I at first was thinking I better not buy too many because a lot of times fruit are bad quality when you see them on sale or in abundance like they are today at Podestos. However I quickly corrected my thought and convinced myself to purchase them because it's Podesto's. I mean seriously Podestos wouldn't ever sell cold storage fruit that is mushy and tasteless, right? Well WRONG! This fruit is exactly that. I was tricked into buying garbage fruit at Podestos and I'm extremely disappointed. My feelings about this store will forever be tainted now. How dare them stoop to this level. I really thought I could trust that when I buy from Podestos I'm buying only the best. I was wrong unfortunately!

Overall, Podestos is a very good market. They have many of the hard to find, imported items. The Deli department is superb. Some of the best sandwiches in Stockton. I'm giving it 3 stars because you must ALWAYS pay very close attention to the dairy department's expiration dates. I frequently find milk that expired a week before. Just today, November 9, 2024 I saw gallons of milk that expired on November 5, 2024. (See photo). You also have to be careful in the produce department. You'll frequently find produce that is long past its prime and heading into funky town.

Do NOT buy their chicken sandwich it's way overpriced and it was raw!! Mind you I'm pregnant and the man preparing the BBQ chicken sandwich seen my belly and still handed me a raw chicken sandwich second bite I could feel the rawness yuck wish I could give zero stars

Well it's a new week and nothing has changed. Even though I was told that it would be fixed. No way of seeing the new weekly ad unless I go to the store. Things have changed since Marval has taken over. Meat prices has gone up, sandwiches have less meat and I no longer receive weekly ads in the mail nor do they update the ad on their website in a timely manner. It is Thursday and still have an ad that expired two days ago. When I called the store the manager told me he has no control over that. The main office handles that. Didn't even say he would look into it.

Sandwiches are bomb! I recently discovered that I can get my Dutch crunch flipped upside down and hallowed and my life has been changed forever. The sandwiches are nicely portioned. They are made to order and they make em pretty fast for as many orders as they get. Especially during the lunch rush, because that's the main time I come in to get one. They have so many varieties of meats and pasta salads, they have hot food, pastry's, etc. The store is pretty big. I still haven't had the chance to actually walk around it. As I've only come in twice and it was straight to the deli to pick up my sandwich. One day soon I will walk through the isles so I can see what they carry overall. I'm excited to come back and I define it recommend if you're in the area or passing through to stop by!

BBQ is Always good but prices have gone up. Haven't been here in a few years. Sandwiches are still good too but really expensive for me.

The deli is not the same as far as the pre made entrees. The food in the case all looked dry. Bought a Frittata which was wonderful years ago, it was dry and had a strange seasoning in it, I had to throw it out. Chicken parmesan was dry. The girls at the counter did not seem happy to work there. The older guy who checked us out at the register, who was older, did not smile or act friendly. I felt he was a manager. My husband used to be a butcher years ago at Podesto's and worked for the original owners, also for Draeger's, Lunardi's and Petrini's markets all high end in Northern Ca. This place no longer shows pride in customer service.

Really cool, old school feel grocery store. Podesto's reminds me of a neighborhood grocery store only much fancier and more expensive, LOL! I came in looking for Alpine bologna and they carried it so I was pretty excited about that. The deli was pretty crowded for mid-afternoon but I was helped quickly and the staff was very friendly. Since I hadn't been inside this store in YEARS, I decided to do a lap. I liked the fact that they have their own baked goods aside from the pre-packaged items you normally see. And I was absolutely thrilled to see they still make my favorite Coffee Crunch cake. I decided to only get one slice. And even though it was $7, it was worth every single bite. While I would not shop here exclusively since they are so pricey, it's definitely worth visiting occasionally for special items you may not find at the big name stores. However, if you don't mind the steep prices, this store incredibly clean, well stocked and provides good old fashioned customer service that you just don't see a lot of anymore. No self check-out here!

Cool Italian market with great deli. Something for everyone. Small town feel, welcoming, exceptional customer service. Lots hot meal items, they will heat it up for you if needed, bakery items.

All the girls had a stuck up attitude in the deli making the sandwiches except the one who helped me, stop hiring young people if they cant have a positive attitude i think. My sandwiches where good some ingredients where missing but they where decent a little small for 12 dollars though.

I'm reporting g them to the health dept on Monday tomorrow got sandwich lettuce was old tomato looked like it was out all day also they are not using culinary gloves to handle food allready called it in but going downtown tomorrow to file a complaint on podestos

Great service, friendly faces. The girls in the deli are always extra helpful. Last week megan helped me, and was very knowledgeable about their products, specifically the cheese. Love the new salad bar as well!

I really liked P's before the sale. Now I have concerns. The prices are higher and the service and quality is worse. Bad combo. I ordered a prime roast a week before xmas, arrived the date it was supposed to be ready. Nothing was done and some rookie from the meat area cut me the worst roast I've ever had. 40% fat . $220! Merry Christmas. Fix it fellas. And you charge plenty to do a mailer. Your IT ads stink. Steve

I ordered a Neapolitan cheesecake from the deli and they gave me a chocolate cake/cheesecake item. When I tried to eat it later, I realized it was not what I ordered. I would have accepted the mistake but the cake they gave me was inedible. The chocolate cake portion was tough, dry & crumbling. Since it was so terrible, I decided to return to the store to tell them they refused to do anything about it.

Their customer service has improved and they're not much more expensive than Raley's these days. So although they're not as good as the Nugget in Sacramento it's still pretty good if you need deli items or a few groceries.

Good spot if you want a quality sandwich made with fresh ingredients in a pinch. Loved my made to order sando!

Gone are the days of great service and great food from Podesto's. It's the end of an era. The last three times I have visited the store, the customer service has been lacking at best. Today when I went into the bakery, I waited while four customers ahead of me were served and again they were greatly understaffed as has been my experience since the new ownership has taken over. When it was my turn, the clerk came up and asked what I wanted I told her she said she had to go wash her hands. She was training, which I understand, however, within the time that she was washing her hands and talking to the trainee, the items that I had been waiting for were purchased by another customer who had come in after me and three customers who had arrived after me were all served and had gone by the time she took my order. When I voiced my concern, I was simply told that I could've called ahead and had something set aside, she acted like it was no big deal. The point is when I walk in and see the items I've come to purchase in the bakery case right in front of me and then to have customers that came in after me purchase the items until they are gone so I cannot get what I came in to purchase originally is just poor Customer Service. I've been frequenting Podesto's market since 1992. Like everything else it's never been perfect, but the Customer Service has always been great and I've always been greeted with a smile and a friendly hello. Not anymore. So to my fellow Podesto's lovers it is so sad for us to see this once great local store and shopping experience come to an end. RIP Podesto's. I'll go to another store going forward.

Ordered tuna sandwiches. Barely any tuna. I got a lot of chopped lettuce. I get more tuna at subway. The Deli person was not very friendly seemed bothered by people. The bread was good. Wouldn't recommend this place for sandwiches. Safeway is better or I'd rather drive to Lodi Fiori's

Famous sandwiches. They are $10.99 and so worth it. There may be a long line to order but it goes fast.

One of our favorite spots for sandwiches on the weekends! A bit pricey but worth it. Once you fill out your sandwich form your sandwich is prepared fairly quickly!

I've loved their scones for years. Especially apricot. However, a while ago I noticed they weren't as good. Dry and crumbly not the usual buttery biscuit like crumble. Maybe overcooked? Kept trying and being disappointed. Then saw the change of ownership that had overlapped for a while was complete. So realized the scones have been changed. I gave them one last chance today. Nope. Dry. No flavor. Only two tiny bits of apricot. For $11. Not again.

Everyone who lives in Stockton knows Podestos has great sandwiches. It'd been quite awhile since my last visit and was in the mood for one. Like other places, they too are skimping on the deli meat. It's a shame what Is happening today. Cost is up for everything, and the quality is not what we pay for. Tired of it. Only thing that stood out was the fresh Dutch crunch bread. Also decided to splurge and got the german chocolate cheesecake. Skip it. Not worth the $8 slice.

Service is quick and friendly but for all the times I come to get a sandwich its prepared in a sanitary manner. I go here mostly for their sandwiches. Alarmingly, my sandwich was not prepared with gloves. Keep in mind this sandwich will not be heated to ensure some germs are killed. Nope. This is straight up from the deli to the table and I was deeply disturbed with the handling of my food. Its unfortunate but I wont be going back after this. I could have asked for them to remake and use gloves but I didn't want anyone spitting in my food. *call it trauma* However, Im learning today that even after Covid, some places have become lax in regards to their cleanliness protocol and handling food and that could compromise my health. I refuse to continue supporting that.

Best meats, best deli, best pastries and great service. All one can ask for. Fine ethnic food selection and great local wines.

WHY don't they wear gloves when making sandwiches!? I watched a deli worker go to the back, grab a container from who knows where, walk out peel tape off her shoes then proceeded to start making my sandwich with her bare hands! Takes cash and touches register and everything in between customers without even a drop of water to wash her hands from one customer to the next. Sad thing is most of them are also doing this. It's unfortunate cuz their sandwiches are delicious but truly how is this okay. So unsanitary, not a single person is wearing gloves or washing their hands and constantly making sandwiches, touching money, counter tops and plastic bags bare handed. Yikes podestos

After hanging out all day in Modesto, I figured hey! Let me finally make the trip out to Stockton and try out Podesto's ! PAH! I am a WinCo lover but I will admit the customers and area are a little sketch. I was telling my colleague Marcus about it and he recommended Podesto's and said I wouldn't have those same issues here and boy was he right. Clean, quiet and plenty of friendly employees to help out. I hit up the deli/bakery section and got some smoked meats ( my partner Berry's favorite) and some sweet treats. The cookies are to die for, definitely knocked my socks off. My favorite part of my trip was when checking out, there was only one person in front of me but once I got in line another employee sprinted over to check me out at another station, put a smile on my face to see such dedicated employees that love their job. The only reason I can't give them 5 stars is because one of the employees, Russell I believe did make some odd comments toward Berry and did seem to stare quite a bit but that's ok, does not spoil the trip and will certainly be back for their cookies!

For the past 5yrs I've been getting a sandwich 3 times a week. BUT !!! Today I had an ham sandwich it was salty, dry almost no mayo. Never had I ever had such a bad sandwich ! I'll have to think about going back !

Im giving a 2 cause lord knowssssss I loveeee their sandwiches!! Howverrrrrrrr This this 3rd time time where I hand them a PAPER showing them what I want and its disregarded ... NOW to be fair I feel at this point I wanna hand my slips to CERTAIN ppl cause ... Not all people WANT to do their job. Some are tired and I get it working with public is HARD yes it is... HOWEVERRRRRRRRR please respect ppls wishes !! I give my slip u can do it not (based on wht u have) but do NOT do what u want too .... I placed sprouts ON MY SLIP and said no lettuce cause ice berg is WATER .... u didn't have it WHYYYYYYYYY place ICEBERG when I said don't do that cause its watery and I don't want that! Why place PICKLES when I said peppers .... changes my whole meal ... Idk some deli makers do what they want and that shouldn't be okay cause it RUINS the whole sandwich. I had to run so no time for a return ( and this is MOST times) now I feel the need to OPEN my meal to see its done right when I may be on a LUNCH rush and thats normallly what it is .... idk podesto pleaseeeeeeeeeee communicate better and work on courtesy of customers

Podedtos used to have an excellent produce section. No more since taken over by MarVal. So sad a great grocery in Stockton is no longer
