Poe's Tavern is an awesome spot, straight up. The burgers? Unreal. They've got this juicy thing going on, with flavors that just explode in your mouth. And the toppings? Forget about it. They pile 'em high with all sorts of crazy good stuff. Plus, the vibe there is super chill. It's the kind of place you can kick back, relax, and chow down on some seriously tasty food. If you're ever near Atlantic Beach, hitting up Poe's is a total must.

Really liked the outside seating of this restaurant. It's in a good area, trees lining the walkway and plants all over as well as lights hanging at their patio just gave it all a relaxing vibe. My husband and I really enjoyed it here. We only had the chicken quesadilla but it was still delicious. The drinks were great as well.

Ate outside and had THE BEST BURGERS EVERRRRR! Great portion size, delicious beef, plenty of fixings and cooked our burgers to perfection.great friendly and attentive staff-wasn’t too busy as well at 1:30pm. Would highly recommend especially for people with allergies-staff was super attentive.

It was cold out but enjoyed sneaking in here to snag some food. I ordered a kids cheeseburger and it was perfection! Pixie was content just hanging.

Google
Great experience at Poe’s. I ordered the market price fish tacos. Very tasty, but would’ve gotten grilled over fried if given the option. My husband ordered the beef sleeper and said “this is probably the most unique and best burger I’ve ever had”. We ordered the drunken chili, a good twist to a classic chili. Overall I’d give food 4.5, but we were not disappointed with our lunch choice

Google
Absolutely outstanding experience at Poe’s Tavern! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with a lively vibe that perfectly matched the delicious food. What really made our visit exceptional, though, was our waitress, Megan. She was friendly, attentive, and genuinely made us feel welcome. She offered great recommendations, kept our drinks filled, and checked in just the right amount without ever feeling intrusive. The food was incredible — fresh, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. We loved every bite and appreciated how quickly everything came out, even though the place was busy. If you’re looking for great food, a fun atmosphere, and top-notch service, Poe’s Tavern is a must. And if you’re lucky enough to have Megan taking care of you, you’re in for an even better time! Can’t wait to come back!

We visited Poe’s Tavern, Atlantic Beach Florida several times during our visit in early June, 2025. The atmosphere was pleasant and clean, and the burgers & fries were amazing. The readings in the bathroom added a unique touch. I especially enjoyed the staff; very friendly, and Meaghan, in particular, was an absolute doll.

We were driving down A1A and my girlfriend said, there's a place called Poe's Tavern, as in Edgar Allen Poe! Both of us being big Poe fans, we decided to give this place a try. As we entered the establishment, I noticed the 1800's decor with the dark wood and iron indoor fencing with the very nice outdoor dining area as well. The pictures and quotes and graphic design of the interior featuring all things literary and cinematic of Edgar Allen Poe was amazing, yet not overbearing. Our burgers were spectacular. I ordered the Gold Bug Plus with Chili Cheese Fries. Delicious. There was classic rock playing on the sound system at a nice non-jarring volume. Hearing the Doors and Led Zeppelin and Jefferson Airplane enchanted the American classic- Gothic vibe here. Our waitress Jen was friendly, efficient and very knowledgeable about the local towns of Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach and Jacksonville Beach. Lastly we will most certainly be coming back here again. And I got the t-shirt as well!

Yelp
Can't go wrong if you want a burger out by the beach. The ambiance is cool, it goes with the restaurants name and the theme is poes tavern. They have bar service so grab a drink and some food!

Brian D.

Yelp
Spent the afternoon walking around the beach neighborhood and it was time for a very early dinner. 2 different restaurants we stopped at were closing early for the Super Bowl. We then stopped at Poe's. They were staying open. Menu is smallish. Some appetizers and other dishes. Mostly focused on burgers with either beef, chicken or veggie. We both ordered burgers. Both were very good and cooked perfectly. Service was good throughout our visit. Well done!

Karen B.

Yelp
You can't get a better burger than Poe's. The ambience is fun, with an Edgar Allen Poe theme. Patio seating is available and puppers are welcome outside. My only complaint is that service can be extremely spotty. Sometimes it's super attentive and friendly, other times food has arrived cold or I've had to get up to hunt down someone for a forgotten item or for the check. The food is good enough that I keep going back, but management really needs to work on training and supervising waitstaff.

Heath A.

Yelp
Poe's is my go-to burger place when I'm out at the beach. I've even been known to make the long trek across town when I'm really craving a great burger. They're that good. The experience from host greeting to walking out has always been on point. Creative, delicious burgers (Tell Tale Heart is my fave) mean there's something for everyone. Warm, local vibes whether you're at the bar or a table. If you're in the area, check them out!

Stacy A.

Yelp
Great atmosphere! Delicious grilled chicken salad . The dressing was a basil vinaigrette, very flavorful. The burgers are out of this world and the fries leave you wanting more! Good service very friendly and attentive .

Courtney B.

Yelp
Poe's has been around for years. Been to Sullivan's Island and Neptune Beach locations and both are great. Burgers are superb and cooked properly to order. Consistently good food and a good casual bar. Never had a bad experience here.

Kelly R.

Yelp
Me and my husband ate lunch here last weekend. I tried the veggie burger and LOVED it. We sat outside and had great weather. The inside is moody, romantic, cutely decorated. Service was great, very happy with it.

Rick P.

Yelp
Been awhile since we've been to poes. Place is always good for a burger and a drink. Started off with a beer. Ordered a bacon a cheddar burger with fries. Candyce got tge same thing. Nice thick burger. Cooked exactly how wanted. Same with candyces. Good service and interesting place to eat. Will be back

Keith E.

Yelp
Poe's is always my go-to in Neptune Beach! They have awesome burgers and fantastic fries and great drinks. The service is always great and it is such a relaxing experience.

Adam B.

Yelp
Pretty much an all around a poor experience. The restaurant is cleaner and located in a beautiful place. Those two things just don't cut it though, they are beside the point. Poor service examples, from no attention, to long unnecessarily long waits. The food its self is cheap didn't taste good. Came for a the Edgar Allen Poe theme, and Yeah I guess that means some weird stuff bought from the Internet. Not interested in coming back.

Kelly T.

Yelp
Today I took my mother-in-law out to do some Christmas shopping and then we headed to Atlantic Avenue in Neptune Beach to grab some lunch at Poe's. We both had been here a couple of times before and always had a good dining experience. They have appetizers, four salads, ten burgers, fish tacos and wings. Their burgers are really good and we both had them previously, but today we decided to try something different. I had the grilled chicken salad. In addition to lettuce and chicken, it had tomatoes, bacon, blue cheese, and avocado. It was a nice size portion. My dining partner had the shrimp salad sandwich with the onion petals. They are like onion rings but much smaller and just single pieces of an onion instead of a round ring. They are really good and you get a great size portion. Service was quick and professional. They also have a parking lot for patrons. The restauarnt is very unique with many pictures of Edgar Allen Poe. They even read his books over the speakers in the bathrooms.

Kayla K.

Yelp
The decor was E A Poe themed. The food was absolutely delicious. Our waiter was super nice. Will definitely be going back.

Emily B.

Yelp
Our server was great and incredibly patient with our group. The food was good and as expected. The atmosphere is fun, nicer than a sports bar but casual. Food was priced reasonably and everything was served accurately and hot.

Marissa F.

Yelp
Poe's was good. Enjoyed atmosphere and only had the Nachos. Which were amazing. Late night snack

Steve S.

Yelp
Stopped for lunch while I was in town for training. Service was good. Friendly and attentive. But the place reminded me of a dive bar. You know, sticky tables and floors. The place is not very well maintained. Then the food was not good at all. How do you screw up a Chicken Salad! The salad was just a mess. I wouldn't eat here.

Caroline N.

Yelp
Poe's Tavern is for anyone that loves all things Edgar Allan Poe and cheeseburgers. We didn't have a reservation and were seated immediately. The service was very friendly and fast. We had 2 toddlers and the servers accommodated us. The ambiance is very sporty with a nerdy vibe. There are quite a few TV screens and during our visit showing various football games. It was not overly loud so it was still possible to have conversations within our party. Each burger is a nod towards Edgar Allan Poe's work. I had the Gold Bug Plus, bun-less. It comes with a couple of options and I went with the sweet pepper goat cheese option made medium. It was delicious and juicy. I also really enjoyed the deep fried onions and French fries. All the burgers are made to order so all our burgers and fries were hot and fresh. The Edgar Poe art, the bathrooms with Edgar Poe literature wall paper, and nerdy burger names are really cute and very unique. Parking can be a bit tricky so prepare for that part. This was an overall 5/5 stars and I highly recommended for any sports watchers who are also avid Edgar Poe readers.

Bethany R.

Yelp
When we walked in it was pretty busy but we were seated quickly. It took a little time for our server to get with us but again it was really busy. She took our orders and our appetizer came out fast. The bacon cheese fries were alright but the fries could have used more salt. The burgers also could have used more seasoning as well. The only flavor I got was salt and that's cause my burger had bacon. I will say that all the drinks we had were delicious!

Alyssa M.

Yelp
This place was a nice little lunch spot. The shrimp tacos were really good, and actually had a ton of shrimp on them, unlike most places that give you 2 pieces of shrimp and call it a day. I did not try the burger but the person who did eat it said it was good. They are dog friendly which is a plus, they allowed my dog to come in the front covered area by the host stand since it was raining on the uncovered patio area.

Kara P.

Yelp
We stopped here on an impromptu visit wanting to stop for a quick appetizer and drinks. We sat at the bar and ordered the nachos with a side of queso. Everything was tasty and filling. For the drinks we ordered a mocktail Moscow mule and the peach lemonade, which weren't really anything to write home about. The bartender who served us, I didn't catch his name, was fine though he didn't go above and beyond to make sure we had a stellar experience. It was sufficient for bar service I suppose. I heard that in the bathroom there are actually recordings of Edgar Allen Poe readings playing but I didn't make it in there.

Alanna R.

Yelp
Bust burgers for miles. Fantastic theme. Gorgeous location. Great beer options. Delightful patio seating. Gets a little crazy with large parties. There is often beach vacationers enjoying the place. The bar always seems lively. They have shoes string fries which is my husband's absolute favorite. It brings some of the festivity of a Disney restaurant attraction. The menu has fun names for the items - literary theme and all. There is even Poe readings playing in the bathroom. The service is always good even when it gets super busy. I always have fun when we go here!

Ocean M.

Yelp
We chose Poe's for a special reason--my father shares a birthday with Edgar Allan Poe, and it was his birthday weekend. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We sat at the bar and were let down by both the service and the food. The bartender serving us seemed visibly unhappy with her job, which negatively impacted the service. However, her teammate, Chris, stood out by picking up the slack and ensuring things ran more smoothly--he's the only reason I gave more than one star. Sadly, the food was below expectations, and we won't be returning.

Joe B.

Yelp
Great selection of burgers, fresh cut fries well seasoned. Fish tocos amazing healthy portion of fish and trims were perfect. Service was good but could have provided a little more attention! Atmosphere was great sat outside in the great spring brease and enjoyed the food and ambiance.

JaneAnne F.

Yelp
We always have a great experience at Poe's. It's the perfect beach town burger joint with lots of Edgar Allen Poe Decor. The service, atmosphere, food and bar are exceptional. We enjoy eating inside or out in the garden area! I love that all the burgers can be made with beef or grilled chicken. I usually get the grilled chicken salad but switch the chicken for a medium rare burger with extra pickles. You need to try it! Delicious! Also, their thin sliced fries are worth ordering too! The bar area has several TV's and they have a good selection of beer, decent wine and a full bar with some pretty delicious signature cocktails (Spicy Margarita hint, hint). If you're in the Atlantic Beach area stop by Poe's Tavern for drinks or/and a meal, you won't regret it!

Cole D.

Yelp
Such a great vibe...they allow dogs and are right near the beach! I highly recommend their burgers and potato salad! Lots of good craft beers and cocktails too!

Rob W.

Yelp
We were down checking out the beach here and stopped in for a drink. They have lots of Poe art on the walls at this cute themed pub. The open air front of the building gives it a nice vibe. Would definitely stop back again when in town.

S J.

Yelp
It was our first time here my husband and I tried the nachos. They were pretty good.. we did need to ask for regular sour cream. We had a friendly server. Nice portion size

Craig E.

Yelp
We came to meet friends for lunch on a Saturday, and amazingly found free parking in the adjacent lot. Not always easy in Atlantic Beach. At noon the restaurant wasn't crowded, but it did fill up by 1:00. The lunch menu is fairly limited, but the selections were excellent. I had the buffalo shrimp blue cheese salad - a generous portion of perfectly fried shrimp in a buffalo style coating on top of mixed greens with blue cheese dressing on the side. I cleaned my plate! Service was excellent and attentive. One of our party has food allergies and the server went out of her way to ensure the kitchen was notified for her special requests - which they accommodated without issue. We stayed to talk for over an hour, and were never pressured to move on and free up the table. A good experience all around.

Caitlin H.

Yelp
Menu is misleading, no fries, even when promised And look stale nachos. Poor things.

Adam L.

Yelp
This place is so good frfr their nachos are the best on skibidi you gotta witness the Edgar Allan Poe rizz it's so fire let him cook it got me litewally hitting the griddy all alphas need to come here on grimace

Joe S.

Yelp
This is not so much a review of Poe's Tavern but moreso a discussion about a family that is so loving that they would order Poe's while the person who loves it the most just came out of abdominal surgery and isn't able to partake. Oh Poe's how I love thee. I long for the juicy delicacy that is the Tell Tale Heart. Your perfectly medium beef burger topped wonderfully with a runny egg. A side of tasty fries and washed down with a spicy margarita. Now thats good eating. Oh how glorious it could have been however all was for naught. While I suffered with ice chips my brood feasted on a cornucopia of the most delicious foods. I weep for what I missed yet I know someday soon I shall once again return to the restaurant with my appetite and wallet in tow.

Cristin N.

Yelp
Burgers were good, nachos were delicious and smothered in chili. We left very full. The service was a little weird. Waited for a table "outside" until we realized we were being passed over by people sitting on the covered patio who checked in after us. So they seated us in the covered patio but no menus. Had to grab our own napkins and silverware when apps came. Server good but hosting a little off their game. Was freaked out by the man reading poetry track in the ladies room until I realized it was some strong Poe theming.

John C.

Yelp
READ THIS REVIEW------- Really fun place - large outdoor and indoor seating areas. Old wood floors, tables and chairs. Great atmosphere and high energy. Parking is tricky and small (in a mini-strip mall). Lots of Edgar Allen Poe decor - cool. Staff is attentive, nice but busy. (They don't rush you, but they are busy.) Have broad menu and vegetarian options too. BBQ sauce is a mix of Texas and So. Carolina... does not work for me (I'm a life long native Texan living in Fl now). Shoestring onion rings not salted (and should be... just like fries are). They were a bit overcooked but very enjoyable after I salted them. Burger has a huge patty and cooked over open flame. Really good flavor (angus beef), juicy - not greasy, and the toppings are fresh. The patty did not make it to the edges of the bun, but you will not leave hungry. They do not use iceberg lettuce rather it's leaf lettuce and has nutritional value. Bacon is nice but had burnt tips on one piece (only about 1/2 in). I broke it off and the rest was fine. I ordered cheddar cheese, bacon lettuce only but tomatoes and pickles were added on top of the lettuce. (Open face) I has to dry off the lettuce to get rid of the tomato/pickle juice. Don't like that on a burger I'm evaluating. Sadly, I told my waitress the ketchup at my table and one other table were empty. (Yes, I went to a 3rd table and got a full one.) I put the empty table ones outside the condiment basket on both tables, told her they were empty and a few moments later she simply put them back in the baskets without replacing them. Not good. (No names here, I'm not that mean... but I did tell the manager to replace them (and kept the story to myself). Overall it's a really good burger and if you are close I recommend going. I spent $19 and feel it's a good value. It's now my #2 (my favorite is in downtown Jax area - 30+ min from here). I would give it 8 out of 10. Definitely a great hangout and good eats. Absolutely worth the drive to try it once!!!!! Go! Yelp
On our hunt for the best burgers in Jax, we found Poe's Tavern and just had to try it. Hubby and I stopped in for lunch one weekend. I was craving something classic so I ordered the Pit & Pendulum. Hubby ordered the Gold Bug Plus with sweet pepper goat cheese. The burger itself was huge, juicy and delicious! I find burgers this thick usually aren't seasoned or cooked properly, however, that was definitely not the case at Poe's. The bacon was amazing! Hubby's sweet pepper goat cheese was the perfect creamy cheese topping for a burger. I loved the addition of onion straws. The fries were also very tasty, excellent dipped in honey mustard. Perfect meal to enjoy with a Duke Brown Ale! Cool ambiance, epic burgers and craft beer all in one place. We can't wait to go back!

Michellle E.

Yelp
Great place for an excellent burger. Great drinks. Awesome Bloody Mary and the spicy margarita is SPICY. Our waitress was very attentive and the ambience is fun.

MaDonna W.

Yelp
We absolutely love eating at poes... If you go you must have one of their delicious burgers I ended up having the blue cheese burger with shrimp... Such a delicious flavor I would get this every time little mini grilled onions.... So good.. this tavern is so kid and animal friendly there were so many dogs outside with bowls of water everywhere for them a very fun family place to dine.. two blocks from the beach... plenty of outside seating as well as a significant bar... we love poes Tavern

Yelp
After 10 years or so I finally revisited Poe's Tavern on a trip to Jacksonville. The food was still as good as I remember and I ordered a burger with Monterey Jack. Years ago when I came they ground their beef on site and i believe they still do. Sure tasted like it! Came with fries and they were ok. Just those shoestring fries and weren't bursting with flavor but still went down well with my burger. Mmm, good and huge burger! Service was very good too and Wesley took great care waiting on us. Our food came out fast and everything was made as we ordered it. You get a lot of food for your Buck here as well. The restaurant has been there at least 15 years. Came here off and on while visiting family over the years and the Edgar Allan Poe theme(in the name of course!) is epic and adds to the experience. I believe I even heard Poe audiobooks when visiting the restroom to freshen up. Love it! Restaurant is also pretty clean. It's just a tad bit dingy and there is a slight hint of lemony cleaner like from the bathroom perhaps but the tables were clean and nothing took away my appetite. I give this place a thumbs up!

Alison M.

Yelp
Blue cheeee coleslaw excellent! Fried onions excellent! Don't bother with chicken; however the veggie burger is great. Great place in Neptune close to everything

Alexa R.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting Poe's Tavern after several friends have recommended it to me. I sat at the bar while my husband got his haircut next door and the bartender was super friendly. She recommended the spicy margarita and it was the best! I don't like sweet drinks and this one had great flavor and didn't taste loaded with sugar. My husband later joined me and we ordered dinner. I meant to take a photo of my meal but I was so excited to eat it that I forgot. I had the chicken Annabel Lee, which was a grilled chicken sandwich topped with crab cake. Oh my goodness it tasted even better than it looked! The portions were quite large for the price and I felt this was a great value. I loved the decor with the Edgar Allen Poe paintings and cardboard cutout. There was spacious seating indoors and outdoors. I think I found a new favorite place to frequent!

Elizabeth S F.

Yelp
Service food and atmosphere was excellent you will not leave there hungry reasonably priced

Robert R.

Yelp
Entire experience at Poe's was outstanding. We enjoyed everything from the burgers for our grandson's to the salads as well. Service is outstanding with adequate attention taken to assure our beverages were appropriately refreshed to their offerings for dessert. We will definitely be returning often in the new year.

DL M.

Yelp
The hop frog burger was delicious. It was properly cooked and very juicy. If you like fresh cut fries, this is the place for you. Our waitress was prompt and pleasant. Drink refills were brought before I even asked. The atmosphere was hopping. It's a busy place and seating is inside and out. This is a fun place to dine.

Francis C.

Yelp
Definitely an institution at AB. They Cool Edgar Allen Poe vibe, great staff. Good burgers. They grind their own meat.

Stephanie A.

Yelp
Food was great! I ordered an appetizer of chips and queso with a size of guacamole! For my entre, I ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with cheese and bacon with their signature fries! It was delicious and mouthwatering. Services was quick and easy.

Solana B.

Yelp
Waitress was great- very friendly and helpful. The basil vinaigrette dressing was really really good, and I'm not a huge fan of dressing. Overall the food was good but nothing special.

Tony K.

Yelp
Meh.... Not excited. Was mediocre at best. Won't be back. Better restaurants in the area.

Linda G.

Yelp
We've eaten here many times and have always had a great experience. We dined outside on their patio, always an excellent option. Sadly, they don't have a happy hour, but my drink was so good, that was quickly forgotten. I got a house made hard lemonade, and it was excellent. $8 and I would get that bad boy every time. My son got a burger and fries, for which I would put Poe's in the running for both the Best Burger and the Best Fries in town. Another plus is that they always give you a generous amount of fries. I got the cheese quesadilla off the appetizer menu, and made for a fantastic dinner. Our server was new, but I give him credit; it did not distract from our experience at all.

Amber S.

Yelp
I have been to Poe's more times than I can count. It's one of my favorite burger joints and is well worth the drive out to the beaches. Service has almost always been good, prices are great. I love that you can sit outside at one of their many patio tables, which is what I usually opt for. On days with nice weather, they open up the restaurant so everyone gets a little outdoor goodness. My go-to burger is the Black Cat. I'm telling you, they just CAN'T make this burger any better. The pimento cheese, chili, and onion straws all work perfectly together. It's definitely a "hot mess" burger, but sometimes it just has to be that way. Give Poe's a shot. You'll be glad you did.

Mia G.

Yelp
5 stars to an incredible fish sandwich! Went on a Saturday afternoon and was able to get sat right away. Service was quick and we got our cocktails quickly. My partner and I decided to share the fish sandwich special. Glad we shared because it was HUGE. Fried to perfection and came with all the fixings. Will definitely be back for that sandwich.

Anna B.

Yelp
I love Poe's! Fun Edgar Allen Poe decor everywhere and even an interesting surprise in the women's restroom related to the theme. The inside is dark and usually loud but still fun. They have a nice outdoor patio where you can people watch. After all these years, they are still my #1 for queso in Jacksonville. It doesn't make sense but it's fantastic. The portions here are big- good size burger and a big plate of fries, both of which are delicious. They have great drinks too! I'd stay away from the water... it's always tasted a bit funky. Yes the service is consistently a little slow but I think the pros greatly outweigh the cons here!
