The Best Restaurants for Fish and Seafood in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"Come to this Côte-des-Neiges gem expecting some of the city’s freshest fish and seafood; do not come expecting ambiance. It’s a cafeteria-style set up, where customers order from the fish counter at the back of the restaurant and seat themselves (along with a table number) at the front. Don’t miss the perfectly tender grilled octopus." - Dahlia Snaiderman

Favorite seafood restaurant ever. Food is always fresh and the place very clean. They offer a large variety of seafood products. Even if the place is often crowded, the dining room is so large and the staff so efficient, I never had to wait to long. I always take the octopus, tiger shrimp, calamari, potatoes and salad 👌👌👌

My husband’s fav fish restaurant in Côte-des-Neiges. Very fresh seafood with fair price, generous portions, and friendly service. He felt homy and buddy style dining vibes at this restaurant. Very vibrant and joyful atmosphere. The BBQ fish and garlic shrimp are yummy, but the fries is the gem! Do not miss the fries when you pick your side dish here.

Google
Rayan is the best seafood restaurant in Quebec! Whenever I visit Montreal, I make sure to stop by their restaurant. We’ve tried their grilled sea bass BBQ, fried calamari, fries, garden salad, fried basa, and popcorn shrimp. Everything is fresh and delicious, but their fried calamari is on another level—absolutely the best! The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating such a warm atmosphere. This is the perfect place to visit with family. Highly recommend Rayan to anyone looking for amazing seafood and great service!

Google
Amazing sea food! Came all the way from New Brunswick to try the stingray and octopus! If you love sea food, this is a spot for you!

Google
Nothing to tell honestly. Rayan is a small fresh fish and seafood market and restaurant that has such great taste ! If you love seafood. There are dinning family tables for supper time meals in a middle eastern style that you have choices to choose from. Different rice styles. You choose how you want your order cooked and etc. or just bring it home and do your own thing but they don’t mind. Every time I’ve been there I was served with lots of smiles and intent listening. They seem to always want to get it right for you and I love that. Seating, pricing and service is very delightful here ! Tell them I sent you ! ❤️

Google
This has been my third time eating in this restaurant. Food was good, as usual. We ordered fried shrimps, shrimps and mussels in garlic butter sauce, calamari, fried fish, and rice. I would recommend their fried fish; the spices and herbs really work to bring out the best flavour. Restroom was clean. There servers were mostly kind and attentive. Only downside is there’s no free parking. Would definitely recommend! :)

Google
My family's favorite restaurant for fresh seafood and delicious side dishes. The owner and staff are the best: generous, kind, polite and sincerely rare. I value this place highly, and also recommend it without any reserve. The food is fresh, tasty and satisfying. A must go to in Montreal Cote des Neiges area! Love you guys. Thank you!

Google
Horrifying experience here. The fried fish and chips were decent. The shrimps was ordinary, considering about 27$/lb not worth it. We didn't tip, so the cashier reacted rudely, as you can see by the reviews they coerce you to pay tip, make you feel guilty. 'He said if you cannot afford to tip, don't eat here ' We have to understand how the restaurant market works, the owners have margin of beyond 50% in these industries, they are the one responsible for paying fairly to staffs. But, the staffs are delusional to think that the average earning customers should pay for both food and staffs, the society has been brainwashed not realizing the benefitters from this are restaurant owners who keep on getting richer and open multiple franchises/oulets. Occasional tipping for service to staffs should be there, On top of that some restaurants keep the tip for themselves. I hope we understand the flaw in system.

Yelp
I ordered the Fish Plate via Uber Eats, and so there was no choice as to which type of fish I would get (and I didn't mind!). The pricing was a bit steep, but then Rayan is the only place I know that grills fish like this, coated with bran, a traditional Egyptian way. The food came fairly quickly, and was hot and fresh. The fish came with a large portion of rice and vegetables, as well as chopped onions. The rice was of the "minute rice" type, which is not my favorite, but it was seasoned and a good side to have. The vegetables were doused in garlic and melted butter/margarine, and better than I expected for something reminiscent of frozen vegetable mix that's steamed/sauteed. The fish was very well seasoned, perhaps by marination, with lots of parlsey and fresh lemon. The wheat bran gave a subtle flavour to the fish, which remained tender and juicy inside thanks to the coating. If you don't enjoy the texture of the bran, you can always brush it off. Good stuff! Looking forward to try more.

Yelp
The fish was good but the side dishes were not and rice was not good and overpriced and overall experience was not good. I don't really recommend for the price not being worth it. Need to pay attention to the service. A lot of room for improvement.

Yelp
It might be one of the best seafood place I have eaten in Montréal. It can be pricy but It is worth every dollar of it. Not only the food is delicious and cook to perfection but also the customer service is very good. They will make you feel comfortable even if that include moving other tables to join yours because you ordered a lot of food, serving you water as soon as you sat down and asking you for drinks. The vibe is 'we came here to eat', you will probably go out of the door full. I see some negative comments about the menu. I think its unfair since this is the concept of the restaurant, you get fresh food in front of you and you can choose what you want and how you want it to be cooked. Honestly, I never looked at the price of every ingredients but for two people ordering side dishes, grilled fish, shrimp, mussel, and the famous fried calamari with drinks, it cost us (without tip) about 110$. PS: we bought lots of food home too. But of course, price will depend on quantity and you can always ask the one who serves you at the seafood bar to let you know the exact price of each of your dishes. Definitely recommend !
google avatar

Jill W.

Yelp
I love this concept... you choose your raw fish / seafood from the counter and then they cook it for you and bring it to your table. This is not a fancy setting, very casual, but the food is so fresh and well prepared. Our party of 6 shared the dishes family style, we had shrimp in garlic sauce, fried tilapia, grilled octopus and calamari, along with rice, potatoes and salad. Top marks went to the octopus and the potato wedges from everyone. I calculate we spent about $33 per person (no beer / wine available). Highly recommend for a great seafood fix.
google avatar

Fei M.

Yelp
Once again, after 7 years. Portion reduced a bit. BBQ sea bass is still same flavour. Worth the wait (half hour at least?) Potato and calamari are well seasoned.
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
Excellent fish dishes. It's a bit confusing as a new visitor as they don't have a menu, but the staff is nice and helpful. Great service and nice open atmosphere.
google avatar

Stefanie K.

Yelp
I am an grilled octopus aficionado so every time i see it in the menu i just have to have it. This is the second best I've ever had. The best was at Chō a restaurant that unfortunately did not make the covid cut, so by default this has now become the best grilled octopus I've had in Montreal, very close second being Elounda's. I will definitely order from here again, the portion was generous and the price reasonable!!
google avatar

Karen L.

Yelp
Food was decent. However, they never brought us bread--we weren't quite sure to ask since we didn't know if the other tables ordered them or if they were complimentary. At the very end when we inquired, they gave it to us but we were already full. The rice wasn't very good. And the people working at the fish counter were kind of exasperated when explaining how the system works. Which is confusing because it's not quite like regular restaurants. You go to the fish counter, choose what seafood you'd want, and then choose a particular way to cook it. Each seafood has different cooking methods and sauces which aren't stated so it's not like we could have not asked and guessed off the top of our heads. Overall service was the worst. The food was decent--didn't taste as fresh as you'd imagine a place that had a fish counter would be.

Yelp
I was wondering why the rating was so low but I get it. There were a few reviewers that came into the restaurant and didn't know what was going on and decided to go to another resto. That's a bit unfair to rate a resto poorly just because of that imo. So here's how this concept works: 1) Make a table rezo by phone (it may be busy on weekends) OR if you get there early and there are free tables, just grab a table. 2) Go to the back of the resto to order 3) Menu: order by the pound anything you see at the counter and then the cook method for each item. a) Deep fried b) Grilled c) Sauteed Recommendations: - Pick a fresh fish of your choice and the cook. TBH, I've not found THE fish to choice yet...so if anyone's got recommendations, I'm open to hearing it! - Calamari deep fried--this is a staple - Garlic shrimp sauteed (this makes the garlic sauce get into the shrimp meat) - Grilled octopus--so tender and delicious grilled flavor. You absolutely must try this!!! - Potato wedges (small or large) these are so good, you won't regret getting them! - Salad (small or large) very fresh with cucumbers, tomatoes, onions, lettuce - Seasoned Rice (small or large) - Free bread - Ask for extra lemons cause that goes with everything Take a plastic number card associated with your order and head to your table and display the card on the holder. The waiter will bring your food to you. The seasoning that they sprinkle generously on everything is so good!!! Pay at the cash by stating your table number. Be careful not to mix up numbers otherwise you might end up paying someone else's table, which is what happened to us! Happily, the cashier recognized the error and corrected the isssue. Always good to double check the bill for the food items you actually ordered!

Yelp
Thé best place and the only one in Montréal who served Sea Food fresh, and delicious. The big bad issue was the staff customer support skills are very bad; the receptionist give us orders with iron face not friendly at all. We came a bit late (2hours before official closing time) the serving staff was angry, and silly comments when we asked do we have enough time before closing time.
google avatar

Yelp
Every time I came here, I went back home with a satisfied stomach! The fried fishes are amazing. Highly recommend to try the Tilapia ! The rice and salads are also must-have!

Yelp
This is a busy, crazy place on a Saturday night! If you don't mind crowds and the search for a parking space, Rayan is a good place for some delicious fresh seafood. Recommend to make reservations in advance because it is a popular place for families. There's a reception table where you first check in, then head to the back to pick your seafood: no menus just point, say how much you want and how you want it cooked (fried, grilled, steamed, sauteed in butter). Order your sides (http://restaurantrayan.com/en/menu/). Take your number put it on the stand on your table and they'll bring it out to you. WE HAD: - Grilled Octopus - tender with a nice char - Battered and Deep Fried Calamari - tender inside and crisp on the outside. - Breaded and Deep Fried Scallops - HUGE tender scallops with a delicious breading. - Grilled Salmon - Thick filets that were cooked perfectly. - Jumbo Shrimp sauteed in butter - always my favorite. Make sure to ask for the complementary bread to soak up the delicious sauce. - Yellow rice - nice, fluffy and tasty. - Salad - fresh and delicious. Make sure to eat the scallops and calamari while they're warm or else they'll get chewy; the octopus stayed tender throughout our meal. You don't have a designated waiter so you can ask for help from anyone. Leftovers are packed in aluminum containers.

Yelp
Rayan is the best sea food place in CDG but pricey. They have really good quality of seafood and the place smells like the ocean side restaurant, the decor is meh but food is great. You order your food at the back of the restaurant, where you pick your seafood options from the glass fridge and tell them your cooking preference (sautéed,grilled or fried) The staff are not that much help in explaining what is what but after one visit you'll get a hang of it. You also can order side dishes my favorite are the house salad (very delish) and potato wedges. I really tried to like the rice but it's meh. Over all great place but pricey, very good food.

Eduardo E.

Yelp
I saw the bad reviews but still decide to give this place a chance . Beware again don't come here unless your Arabic . The reason I say this is cause I was bypass so many times by people who got there after me. Thanks for reminding me that racism is still strong in Montréal canada . Place has so much potential but the service is a joke. Got here and you get to pick your fish and they cook it while you wait. They brought out my two sides and a side of shrimp I order but no fish. I asked them how come my fish is taking so long and they told me "do you prefer to go". I said I'll wait, Took them another 36 mins to bring out my fish. By this time all my other food was cold and I was so disappointed . I didn't even finish half my fish cause I was already tired of waiting and got full off the bread . Last their is no menu and they make up ridiculous prices when your about to pay. Be careful when paying with credit card cause they guy will self tip himself. Also if you do decide to go ask for prices before you sit down. And make sure you have a witness or record them saying the prices or else you will spend your entire check here. I'm not from Canada so I don't know who I would file a business complaint with .

Yelp
This was recommended by an officemate and we were not disappointed. Seafood was cooked deliciously and has just the right serving size. Will definitely return when we're back in Montreal.

Yelp
I love when a restaurant redeems itself! After the whole ridiculous experience last year where I showed up with my family with a reservation and the restaurant was suddenly closed, they offered me dinner on them this year. So I took them up on the offer since I really do love and miss their food (I've been anywhere between 10-15 times over the years). As explained by a few reviewers below, the way the restaurant works is that after you have your table, you choose your fresh seafood by the pound at the back of the restaurant at the "fish market" like area. You can also choose sides and soft drinks (there is no alcohol at this resto). You sit back down with a number and await your food, and you pay at the end (cash is better here). My go-to's are the fried fish (tilapia), the garlic sauteed shrimp, the deep fried shrimp, the yellow rice, the salad, the potato wedges with the red and white sauces, and the grilled salmon with lemon. Another yummy option is their fried calamari. The food arrives family style and is meant for sharing in large groups. It's affordable, delicious and fresh. The restaurant isn't much to look at but hands down, they serve the most delicious and well priced seafood in Montreal. We love it and I will go back.

Jan C.

Yelp
Amazing! So delicious, fresh seafood and reasonably priced. Will go again definitely! Octopus was a real crowd pleaser, even for my picky dad. Calamari was perfectly battered and shrimp juicy and tender!

Yelp
This is a spot for seafood lovers who don't care about decor or service beyond the basics. Food is mostly what I care about so I was pleasantly surprised after passing this restaurant probably over 100 times. We ordered grilled octopus, garlic grilled giant shrimp, a fried whole snapper, rice, and salad. Each preparation was well done and I loved the herbaceous notes: parsley, za'atar, and in the olive oil (you can find pictures by others, I was too hungry to think of it). The process seems maybe a little odd to a first-time client but it's easy: go to the counter in the back to pick your seafood and sides, take your number and find a table, wait for your food! The sauces on the grilled items is also good for dipping using the complementary bread. Service is basic but courteous, so don't be intimidated by something new - give it a shot!

Aingaran S.

Yelp
Love the fresh food here! I have been going here for years but recently the prices have increased significantly compared to other places. I hope management does something about that, as it is not inflation.

Yelp
Hands down, the only place in town (that I know of) offering a typical Alexandrian fish store experience, and sublimely so! Very interesting selection of fresh fish and sea food, cooked however you choose. The place has no menu: you go in, pick out which fish and/ or seafood your heart desires, then give cooking instructions, and have a seat. The fried calamari are a must have, although a more authentic marinara sauce would have been greatly appreciated (whatever was there felt like ketchup). Never have I ever been served under- or over-cookd rubbery calamari - always perfectly cooked, with amazing breading. On our last visit yesterday, we kept it simple with a serving of grilled jumbo shrimps, the fried calamari, and garlic mussels. Outstanding experience all round, as always. As unpretentious as an Egyptian fish restaurant gets, Rayan has been offering consistently amazing food (gotta try the potato wedges with sesame and herbs and the fried calamari) in a truly authentic and sober setting. Don't expect anything fancy though: Alexandrian fish restaurants are generally very austere in the décor department, but what Rayan lacks in aesthetics is more than made up for in food quality and customer service.
google avatar

Fatema Z.

Yelp
We visited Rayan during the summer, at around 7pm on a Friday evening. As you can imagine, it was packed and I was very confused with the ordering system. How it works is that before choosing a table or sitting down, you go to fish 'market' area at the back of the restaurant/shop and choose your fish. The accompaniments and sides are also ordered there. I found this entire process very hectic and confusing as I was being rushed to order. Finally, after ordering, we looked for a table to sit at. It was packed aside from 2 or 3 large tables (made up of smaller tables) that were all free. The waitress told us very rudely either to wait or eat at the 'waiting table' which was where the ordering was done. I asked to be seated in the main sitting area, the 'restaurant' part of the shop but she refused and said it's this or nothing. We were extremely disappointed as here we were waiting for our food with nowhere to sit. There was another couple after us who were in the same position. The woman demanded to be seated at the large table and for her, the waiter moved the tables. We again asked the waitress and she refused so we asked the waiter who was assisting the couple. He finally agreed and made a table for us there. I found this entire process very odd and hectic - I know that the restaurant is used to receiving larger groups so they keep those free but we were customers who had ordered yet were ignored and denied a table Despite all the drama, the food was absolutely delicious and full of flavour! We ordered a large grilled fish, garlic shrimps, barbecued shrimps, popcorn shrimp, salad and the famous potatoes. Everything was devoured with no leftovers and we left very full and satisfied! Prices are decent and portion sizes are based on weight. Overall, giving the restaurant Rayan 3 stars as I would definitely return for the food but not for the atmosphere/rude staff that made us feel very unwelcome.

Yelp
Lady at cash is super rude..: she though u did not speak Arabic and insulted me for asking a question . If you are not Arabic ... don't bother
google avatar

Jennifer J.

Yelp
There is no instructions here and no menu, so here's the low-down: walk to the back of the restaurant where the fresh fish is behind a glass window, choose a type of fish you want (which can then be baked with spices or deep fried in batter). You can add veges to the fish as you like. You can also get shrimp in garlic sauce or deep fried, and you can get calamari and lobster as well. Then you order side dishes like rice or potato wedges (which are amazing!) and then take a number and get seated. All of the seafood is charged by weight and cooked without an extra fee. We tried the turbot fried, the basa baked, the garlic shrimp, the calamari, the rice, and the potato wedges. Everything was really really delicious (except the rice was quite plain, but worked with the baked fish). Definitely would go back the next time I go to Montreal!!

Jo C.

Yelp
Poor food, fish was over cooked, and my sons fish was undercooked. Tried to tell the staff about it and I got attitude in return .. our blue wasn't even cleaned prior to sitting down .. also the back, and kitchen area didn't look clean whatsoever. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant to anyone.

C. A.

Yelp
Good seafood place offering grilled with garlic and olive oil or fried options. Fantastic calamari and garlic grilled shrimp, nice house salad and potato wedges, and house bread. Skip the bland rice. Seafood options vary but usually include shrimp, squid, smelt and larger fish including salmon and shark, octopus, scallops, clams, oysters, and mussels.
google avatar

Khaled K.

Yelp
Eat seafood restaurant on Quebec and Ontario, Friendly and accommodating service, and the food deserve 6 stars out of 5. The fries are out of this world You select the fish and ask them for method of cooking. Try the grilled fish Grilled tiger shrimps Fried calamari Wide selection of seafood Whenever I'm in Montreal, I have to make this stop. I wish they'd open a branch on TORONTO *****

Allyssa A.

Yelp
I am so surprised that the average rating for this place is 3.5 stars! I've been here twice, and I honestly love it. I don't usually judge restaurants by their interior. What's important to me really is cleanliness and quality of the food. It was a treat to walk into this place with all of the fresh seafood, and to find out they cook it fresh! My dad who is the cook of our family absolutely loved this place. Everything was cooked so perfectly. Definitely pricey, but for us folks who are tourists just visiting for an extended weekend, this place is definitely a place that you must go to. The staff were also extremely friendly, and so quick! I had absolutely no complaints about this place. The food was delicious. I highly highly recommend. All my friends who mention they are going to visit Montreal, I will definitely be sending them here.
google avatar

Ada H.

Yelp
I have a disgusting feeling about this place as a visitor to Montreal NOT the first time. This restaurant has the " off the boat" concept that you are ordering the food - suppose to be FRESH and they will cook it for you. Unfortunately the day we went the fishes did not look fresh AT ALL. We did not order the fish and the shrimp ended up taste ok in the end. Now comes to the ridiculous and weird part --- paying the bill. The guy was having pizza and slowly walking to cashier asking us to pay as cash or card. After we said card, he FORCED us to pay 15% tip and punched number randomly on the calculator. Though I would normally tip 15% anyway and I have seen restaurant stating for higher tip on the menu for better service. However, feels like being ripped off at this place as nowhere states this tipping rule since there is no menu and the service was really rushed and rude. I strongly recommend not to come to this place for the price and CRA to investigate this weird place.
google avatar

Sarah J.

Yelp
Great family restaurant. You get to pick the fresh sea food you want. Their food is good. I would recommend getting deep fried calamari.
google avatar

Ali A.

Yelp
Good food. Pricey. So busy. Fast service. Only cash. If you care about some decent sea food with yummy fries snd a salad with a secret sauce (making it taste just right for the setting) then come by. You may end up sitting squeezed at some small tables with chair set back to back to maximize customer service (quantity) as we did on a Sunday evening. But the service is rather quick. I dis not expect a bill in 60s though but did not feel guilty! The price tags are a bit misleading and you need to discern based on your sense of how much a fish weighs!! Probably visit more but I have some equally good or even better alternatives too.
google avatar

Samah S.

Yelp
Food is Ok ... Rice is sucks... they are extremely Rude ... for new customers we stayed waiting for the menu to come for over 15 minutes and then figured out later we should go to order and take a number ... they suppose yo guide people what they should do or put a note on the table so we can understand... Also they guy who take the order is not patient at all and very very rude. Not recommended
google avatar

Mohamed A.

Yelp
This is probably the worst experience i had in a restaurant all over canada, the place is horrible, service is despicable the food quality is below the usual i wouldn't recommend it at all
google avatar

Mohammed K.

Yelp
Very bad treatment and bad attitude we were two and wanna try everything they have he was pushing like old bazar thirsty to sell maximum normally our bill go more than 120$ but he think that we take one or two item The way they treat it was awful and it was so hungry Just politely we said thank you and left !!
google avatar

Rob T.

Yelp
Amazing and very reasonably priced seafood. $100 for 5 people and we were stuffed ! We ordered a bit too much calamari, salad, potato wedges and lots of fish. The fish was fresh and delicious and well seasoned ! Careful, the white sauce that they give you has lots of garlic ! I would come back again !
google avatar

Nachiket P.

Yelp
Hands down the best seafood place I've been to in Montreal, Especially if you love freshly prepared seafood. Think of this place as a seafood market. You order the Fish / lobster / calamari etc by the pound, and you tell them how you want it to be cooked. You have an option of getting it fried , grilled or pan seared. The Calamari is amazing, fried of course. So is the shrimp in garlic butter sauce. Also ask for their hot sauce. It has a nice zing to it. For sides they have two kinds of rice, steamed veggies, dinner rolls, Potato wedges and salad. Did I mention its not too expensive? No alcohol here. Also they accept cash / debit, but no credit. Food : Great Service :Fast Ambiance : Casual Worth the price : Yes
google avatar

The F.

Yelp
Unclean establishment and rude service. You will however get ripped off at the weighing counter when ordering fish to which they are only too happy to overcharge you by over piling on the balance. I'm a fairly young individual and found the seating difficult and uncomfortable. Stay away.
google avatar

Noha G.

Yelp
mmmm if you want a nice seafood meal, go here! But, keep in mind that (a) the seated area of the restaurant isn't very nice, (b) it can get really REALLY expensive, and (c) you pay more for the better non-pita bread. The service has never been amazing, but has never been terrible either..... mediocre might be the best word to describe it. How it works is that you basically walk in, pick your fish from a fridge/freezer type thing, tell them how you want it cooked, and then take a number and sit down. Everything is very fresh, but the ambiance isn't really nice... So basically, fresh and yummy with mediocre service and a not-very-nice seating area. Try it out; if you like seafood I'm sure you'll be pleased with the food!
google avatar

Jason K.

Yelp
Totally weird!! I have never been to a restaurant that has no menus, no prices, no descriptions for anything. You have no idea what is going on. Everyone else seemed to know what was going on except me and my wife. We saw all sorts of interesting things being delivered to tables, sweet potatoes, seafood soup, green salads. I have no idea how much any of it costs or how other patrons knew about these items. For example the seafood soup, is it red? White? Creamy? Full of vegetables? Plain fish broth? Is it $300 a bowl?!? This place is very very strange. I would not recommend this place I would not come back. I have never left a bad review for a place with OK food before. This place is weird and very difficult to try something new or chef inspired
google avatar

Farin I.

Yelp
Loved the sea food here. Fish is quite good too. The must try in this place are the fried Calamari. Please do try Fried Calamari with fried Tiger Shrimp fries too. The sides fries are a quite delicious as well, however Not too big of a fan of the rice though.
google avatar

Marvic C.

Yelp
Its the best seafood place. You choose the fresh seafood and let them know how you want it to be cooked- grilled, fried, baked etc. They use a same spices (Mediterranean) to all the dishes, its a little salty but I enjoyed it. My favorite was the buttered shrimp and their salad. I highly recommend this place but they dont serve alcohol.

Adam J.

Yelp
The worst restaurant ever when it comes to customer service, people are very rude. We made a reservation and got their with my family and we arrived their 15mins early. We kept waiting for someone to seat us for long time but no one cared. Finally, the waiter came and told to sit in a table next to door, i tried to explain to him we have a reservation but didn't listen and said we cannot reserve table for the whole day in a rude way. I got angry then he put his hand on my arm and i told him off. The manager or owner, sitting in a table doing bookkeeping which is not nice to see in a restaurant which very pricey. I left with my family and promised that i will never come back and will make sure everyone i know is aware of such a treatment. Maybe the food is good but customer service is better and it reflects your trust in a place you eat.

Yelp
This is one of our favorite restaurants in MTL. My parents love the seafoods such as the calamari, shirmps and the salad but unfortunately I'm giving this restaurant a very low score because of the service experience we had. We've been served by a waitress. She has a very long hair and tall. When we entered the restaurant today she didn't even smile or I didn't feel that we were welcome at all. She just said go to order station I forgot exactly the words were. After, we ordered my parents and I were looking each other and asking where should we sit. The waitress just said here without smiling. I don't know if she had a very bad day or what. When she was serving us she just put the food like not saying anything. But when food started to arrive and it was like too much order she became nice. After we ate and asked for the packing stuff for the foods, my mother wanted to bring home the leftover lobster then the waitress said there's nothing left on it. But, my mother wants to. So, she just grabbed the packing somewhere in the kitchen and I just say we're going to pay now. After I gave the payment to her, I asked her if she can give me 3 extra garlic mayonnaise. She told me: YOU CAN ASKED IN THE KITCHEN. That's it. She was really rude. Last time we ate here our server "a guy" was really nice and accommodating. I just felt that is it because we're asians that's why she is acting like that. I don't know. I don't want to eat here anymore.

Yelp
Great place for the best seafood in town! I love the fried/grilled calamari and the shrimp is to die for. Be careful however when ordering a pound of something and having half of it cooked one way, the other half another. They don't advertise this, but there is a $3.50 cooking fee for every technique you order. That REALLY adds up! Best to go with a big group of people! Other than that, the decor is 'arabic' family style, but the food definitely makes up for that!

Yelp
Minimal decor, bright lights and utilitarian tables - don't let this dissuade you. Or do! Then the secret won't get out...ha ha! The back of this restaurant is basically a fresh fish market. My eyes widened at the selection of fish, crustaceans etc. I am a fan of all things seafood so this was a little paradise...plus you can order in a number of ways depending on your taste or craving - fried, grilled, breaded with their special herbs, poached etc. I read through the reviews and can only surmise that they've come a ways in terms of service and quality as everyone who greeted us at the door, seated us and helped us select our fish were warm and professional. Then again, we did go around 9:30pm on a Tuesday (not exactly a busy night of the week - I imagine weekends are bananas) and there were only a few other customers left. Everything we had was delicious - the fish, herbed potato wedges...and other tables had beautiful steamed veggies, butterfly-ed fish...I recommend it on an off-night and with a group of 4+ so that you can sample a bunch of dishes and keep it on the affordable side. UPDATE: Went with a group of 20 and tried multiple dishes. The grilled octopus was to DIE FOR! Highly recommend. Succulent, grilled to perfection. The deep fried breaded calamari also delicious. Grilled shrimp = YES! And the steamed, buttery veggies and crispy herbed potato wedges rounded out the meal nicely.

Yelp
Probably the best seafood I've ever had. The calamari, the mussels, the fish...everything was so delicious. The restaurant is very noisy, the concept is a little out of the ordinary and the service is... interesting. But man, the food is just amazing and makes it totally worth it.

Yelp
All the great reviews really are true about this place. The fish is amazing, the calamari is a must, the shrimp is good (but peeling it is kind of annoying) and the salad is great. The waitresses are helpful and smile a lot. The gentleman at the fish station are on a mission to know what you want however, if you are friendly with them and crack a joke they tend to enjoy that. The food really tasty and cooked well. I was so full after my meal and I really enjoyed the experience. I can't wait to go back and try new fish.

Yelp
My sister had recommended this place so I tried it with a friend. I agree with some of the other reviews. It has the feel of a fish market, no menus posted or given to you. The food we received was fresh and very tasty. Not cheap but reasonable for what you got. Every dish a la carte. It is good is you have a group and share everything. I was happy with everything until I went to the cash to pay. I paid in cash and then the jerk behind the counter says to me "and the tip?". I said I had left it on the table which I had. He then went to the table to check if I was telling the truth. I told him "you are not supposed to ask the customer about the tip". I was so disgusted by his pushiness that I went to the table and took the tip back. Mean I know. I was punishing the server for his tacky attitude. But I was disgusted by his behaviour at this point. I will never go back again.

Yelp
This restaurant apparently is in a middle eastern neighborhood. Many local families eat there. Service is very informal, and you select you fish dishes at a market in the rear and pay by the pound. The fried calamari is nothing special. However, the salads are very good. The fish entrees depend on what you order. Some are not fully boned, but are tasty. The salmon was outstanding, flavored with some Egyptian spices. Shrimp were oily. The furniture is worn, but fine. They do not take credit cards. Ambience is very local ethnic. If I lived in Montreal, I would probably go there occasionally. As a tourist, however, I was disappointed because Montreal has so many fine restaurants and I missed one. $ LER--Chicago
