As a precursor to this review, I'm not a fish person. I did not try the Poke.
My sister is a Poke lover, she enjoys it more traditional, without all the added toppings that so many chains that popped up offer. She was on the hunt for traditional Hawaiian style Poke while she was visiting CA, and we stumbled upon this restaurant.
Personally, I was thrilled to try to Loco Moco. I really dislike Loco Moco with brown gravy and I was excited that the Loco Moco on this menu does NOT have brown gravy. This was probably in the top 3 Loco Moco's I've had. I love that there are so many options offered. I opted for the Portugese sausage and beef. The sausage had a great flavor and offered a nice salty flavor in contrast to the beef. The beef is fantastic, very rich, you can definitely tell it's a homemade patty. The grilled onions paired very well and the gravy was fantastic. The eggs were a little under cooked, but at least the yolks were runny so it ran together nicely with the gravy. The rice was even good, and I'm not really a rice eater.
My sister had a bowl with two kinds of Poke. I think she had the Spicy Tuna and the California Tuna. Outside what she had in Hawaii, she said it was the best she'd had. Both looked great, I just don't care for fish.
My son ordered the chicken teriyaki, which he is very picky about. He really like theirs and ate a good amount of it. The plate had a very nice size portion.
The only downside, we visited during a terrible heat wave, over 100 outside and there was no air conditioning. My sister and son were fine, but I think since I had hot food served on sizzling cast iron skillet, I was very warm and ended up having to go sit in the car as soon as I finished.
After I left, the owner came out and talked to my sister and son. She was so gracious about her food and very thankful we stopped in. I love when an owner appreciates their customers.
If I'm back in the area, it's a hands down, no question, I'm coming back kinda restaurant.
