Having heard the buzz around Poke House, I was excited to check it out for myself. So after wrapping up classes and having a little time to spare, I decided that a little lunch was in order. So I headed over to LoHi to give Poke House a try.
The LOCATION: Poke House is located in the heart of the LoHi neighborhood. This is both a blessing and a curse. The bad - parking can be a nightmare here, especially with all the construction happening. The good - the area is very walkable, and you can take the light rail very close and walk a couple of minutes to get here too; making it a commuter friendly spot.
The SPACE/ATMOSPHERE: The space is very large. There are tons of seating options scattered throughout. I love the tropical print accent wall that says, "You're a catch," by the soda machine. There is a small sidewalk patio that would be great on warmer days.
The EATS: For the main event, I ordered a small bowl and spam musubi. The bowls are all customizable. They do offer up some signature bowls, or you can build your own from scratch. I typically choose to build my own with: white rice, salmon, spicy tuna, crab salad, seaweed salad, sweet onion, edamame, ginger, nori, furikake, and wonton strips topped with spicy mayo and I believe the house sauce. Everything was incredibly fresh and flavorful. The spam musubi came out after my bowl and was perfectly warm.
The DRINKS: Hawaiian Sun for the win!! I always try to pair my poke bowls with Hawaiian Sun drinks when available. This time was no different. I selected my favorite: Pass-o-guava Nectar. Always the best pairing.
The SERVICE: The staff was both friendly and helpful while I was placing my order. This is a fast casual type restaurant, so you place your order at the counter, get a buzzer for any additional items, and pay. Pretty simple, so your interaction with the staff is fairly limited.
All in all, Poke House def lived up to the hype. I'll gladly be making my way back in the future.
