Philly’s Best Polish Restaurants | Eater Philly

"Polka Deli is an essential deli for Polish ingredients and kitchen staples. Their stock of Polish rye breads, jams with flavors like sour cherry and plum, pickles, cheeses, and soup concentrates is excellent for home cooks. You can also pick up baked goods and deli meats." - Natalie Jesionka

The staff were polite and friendly. I had the Kielbasa Ruben and the potato and cheese pierogies. They were so delicious. But the cheesecake!!! Thick, creamy but not sweet. Absolutely perfect. My pictures are bad but trust me, the food was amazing.

Google
Oh I love me some polish food!!! First time here and tried potato pierogi and stuffed cabbage. I love cabbage pierogis, but they only have potato and sauerkraut options. I would love to see more options! The stuffed cabbage was good. The potato salad was really good - I loved how small the potatoes were! Online ordering is available but you can walk in and order. Hoping to try the kielbasa next time! Will be back soon!

Google
Very specialized deli with focus on Polish foods. Short but varied menu with sandwiches and platters along with several types of imported sausage and cold cuts in a deli case. The deli section also contains some salads and beautiful cheesecakes. Deli menu posted on their web site. The fresh Polish sausage was very good as was the traditional smoked version - both very savory. There are a couple small tables (6 people total) and a counter along a window providing places to eat a quick lunch. A nice break for lunch and I’m glad a coworker told me about the Polka Deli as the sausages were so much better tasting than those in the regular grocery stores. We took some with us for cooking later and will return again (a bit of a drive around the beltway then up 650 about 10 minute)

DANG, WOW, HOLY..... What an AMAZING, OUTSTANDING, GLORIOUS customer service! I called in my order (I'm a virgin with this place), and even though we were on the phone, you could feel how wonderful the person on the other side was. Then, after 40 minutes, I arrived since I was driving from Virginia. The experience was even better! A warm smile paired with a how may I help you was the perfect and refreshing greeting after all the traffic and time. It was as if the lady was happy to see me... I can't put my finger on it, but she made you feel at peace , and as if the world was pure bliss. Just an amazing personality. FOOD: The Kilbasa Reuben, simple but full of flavor. The bread, sausage, and mustard blended harmoniously. I couldn't stop eating it. The only thing I didn't like was that I didn't get two or more. It was very, very good. Polish sampler: A little bit of everything, but everything was spot on. If you're like. Me that you have never been to this deli, then you definitely must go for the sampler. Cheesecake: This is the preferred way a diabetic wants to die..... DELICIOUS! Not the American store sweet version. The perfect grandma sweetness version. Sweet Cheese Crepes: Oh YEAH!!! Brings back beautiful memories from when I had them in Russia. Filled Donut: (don't remember the name) Only item not my cup of tea. Again, tastes were there. Just for me, something was missing. I think that I got used to a bit more moisture. I do remember it was similar to the ones I had in Russia. Potato Salad: It definitely fills me up with memories and flavors. PARKING: Lots of space. You shouldn't have problems with it. SUMMARY : The food was GREAT! The atmosphere was normal, but the customer service was out of this world. They have to thank God, they're so far from me because they would have to kick me out! 😆 🤣 😂 RETURN FACTOR: 💯 % RECOMMEND A FRIEND FACTOR: 💯 % IT'S A MUST VISIT PLACE!

Google
Hard to find a Polish deli but there’s a nice one in Silver Spring where you can find kielbasa, kraut & mushrooms, good sandwiches including schnitzel, stuffed cabbage, crepes and lots of tasty traditional cakes. It’s also a market so you can buy imported polish delights. I had a nice ham & cheese sandwich with potato salad. It’s not NY or Philadelphia but it’s adequate for DC. I also understand that they bring items down from their sister store in NY. Enjoyed the pirogi & kielbasa with kraut & horseradish

Google
First visit because I had a hunger for homemade pierogies. I emailed for 4 dozen pierogies, so glad I did because that was the way to get store-made. They also have New York-made frozen, no local Polish love in those. I also loaded up on 3x types of Polish sausages. There 20- mile duve was so worth it. If you have a need to get your Polish on, this is the place!

Google
This place is super delicious!! If you have never had Polish food this is the place to try it first. All of the food is homemade. Treat yourself to the AMAZING pork sandwich and some pierogis! The stuffed cabbage and all of the sausage sandwiches are very tasty. Their deserts are excellent. They have a great Polish grocery section as well as option to buy a variety of sausage by the pound. Just go here!

Google
Such a great spot for polish food in the DC area. I brought my polish fiancée here and he lost his mind over the sausages and pierogi! The woman working at the counter was so friendly and knowledgeable and gave us samples to try of everything.

Yelp
On my way home from Maryland, I stopped in here for lunch on the go. It's close to the highway so an easy stop if you are traveling and need something quick. There is a little market as well as prepared foods. There is a small menu of made-to-order items that you can order from too. I ordered the chicken schnitzel sandwich which was a great size and value for the price. Crispy, juicy, well seasoned. I also ordered a mix of pierogis to go - these were also excellent and a great price for the size and quantity of them! My only suggestion is to include more sour cream.

Yelp
Fun fact, If you need to ship packages to Poland, they will do it! The staff are always very kind and helpful to my elderly mother, who sends huge boxes of gifts on holidays to her bone marrow donor and his family in Poland. He saved her life without knowing her through the gift of a transplant and is like family to us, even though we've never met and don't speak the same language. Sending these boxes is so important for my mom to express her gratitude and we're so thankful that Polka deli helps us get the packages to him. They also make a mean Reuben sammie. :)

Yelp
Excellent Paczki ! I previously lived in the Detroit area and the Paczki from Hamtramack were astonishing. This place was pretty close for my cravings.

Yelp
today was our first visit, and it was great. The staff is friendly, the space is clean, the food is delicious and the little market has lots of interesting things. There are a two tables for dining inside. We had a kielbasa sandwich, pork schnitzel sandwich and a sampler platter of sausage, sauerkraut and peirogies - all great!
google avatar

Yelp
Good food and good service. They have a nice variety of imports from Poland. Plenty of free parking.
google avatar

Trisha K.

Yelp
This place is the best Polish store you can go to in Maryland. They have all different types of kielbasa, pierogi, candy, tea, cheeses, etc. all delicious and fresh! The menu is also extraordinary and you have to try a Polish sandwich if you can. The ladies are respectful and will try to help you if you have questions about any of the food there! Oh and not to mention they have a large selection of beauty products and trinkets from Poland! All very beautiful I had to get some for sure! 10/10 don't be afraid to give this location a try.

Yelp
Polish deli with authentic favorite foods. Pierogis, sausage, kraut and imported goods!

Yelp
This place doesn't look like much from the outside but please, do yourself and your cravings a favor and go inside. You'll find a deli counter with an assortment of Polish goodies on display, look up above and you'll find a menu of freshly prepared sandwiches and dishes. While you wait, go walk through the aisles and feast on international goodies. If you're a carb-queen like me, I go for shortbread cookies with a jam filling. We ordered a KIELBASA RUBEN and a SMOKED KIELBASA, both very filling and very tasty, the kraut is out of this world! Will definitely be going back for more cookies and treats because I'm a sucker for all things international.
google avatar

Kate S.

Yelp
Polka Deli transported me back to my childhood of delicious Eastern European fare. The smoked kielbasa sandwich was on point and topped with kraut and mustard. The bread was so soft and chewy-- what a great sandwich! Their meat counter is a sight to see and they also carry pierogi. Definitely worth a stop!
google avatar

Pamel M.

Yelp
Thank you Polka Deli for amping up my Thanksgiving game with fresh perogies to serve our guests! I picked up some yummy polish cookies to share as well. Highly recommend you try out this deli.
google avatar

Yelp
Very yummy food. Excellent on-the-premise prepared food and deli cuts are available. The sausage variety is amazing. The store is little but has a lot to offer that cannot be found in a regular grocery store. The chocolate selection is really good and I often buy some as gifts. Some hot foods are available to take away or eat at the small tables available.
google avatar

Yelp
I really like this place. I'm disappointed in myself for not trying it sooner. I love their ham sandwich - it is basic but DELICIOUS- doesn't need any fancy extras because it is just perfect. Very generous amount of ham. I've also had their kielbasa sandwich and loved it, too. Looking forward to trying other things. I shared my hand sandwich with a picky German friend and a picky danish friend and they loved it too- anything that passes their test is legit good.

Yelp
What a nice experience! I wasn't sure what to expect after walking in...but what I did get was good food, a pleasant atmosphere, and an array of canned treats that's perfect for the adventurous foodie :D Also, a confession...the only pierogis I've ever been exposed to are Mrs. T's. The potato and onion ones were absolutely addictive! So you can imagine the happiness in finding a shop only a few minutes from my home where pierogis are not only available, but made FRESH :D I purchased the potato, cheese, and onion variety. I also tried the sausage and onion sandwich that came with a delicious beet salad. Not sure if you got the memo, but beets are where it's at. They're beautiful to look at, healthy, AND tasty. What more could you want?! ***Side Note: If you're used to food that's heavily seasoned, you may find the pierogis a bit underwhelming. The flavor is good, but it could've used a little extra oomph. Again, this is only if you like a little more seasoning in your food.

Yelp
Fantastic deli sandwiches and an interesting selection of Polish food. I got the chicken snitzel and it was

Yelp
Cute little Polish market in the hood! The deli has a great selection of meats, cheeses and they also have some great hot food options! I had the sauerkraut and mushroom pierogi and that came with a beet salad. Sooo tasty!! Get there early because the classic pierogies sell out fast. Brother got the breaded pork sandwich and said it was really good. Very flavorful and he liked the potato salad that came on the side. I definitely want to try the classic peirogies! Just need to get up early enough! LOL

Glenn P.

Yelp
Very friendly community feeling place to eat. Food tastes great. Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
Polka Deli is an authentic Polish grocery store and deli located in Colesville Center shopping center. When we entered the store, we were greeted by the friendly staff. In the grocery store, you'll find kielbasa, cheeses, deli meats, frozen pierogis and blintzes, marinated goods, sweets, baked goods and more (including dry seasoning mixes and beauty products). The deli sells hot soup, pierogis, sandwiches, and specialty entrees. I purchased a few chocolate bars there but I plan to return in the near future to enjoy their Pierogis, Kielbasa Ruben Sandwich, and Stuffed Cabbage & Roasted Potatoes!

Yelp
I actually ate Polka Deli food at the Olney Farmer's Market. I went to the market looking for breakfast fare, but then I saw the words "Kielbasa Reuben". Now those are two words I've never seen together before, but they worked together well from the moment I saw them. After circling the market and perusing the breakfast fare, I came back for a kielbasa reuben and I'm glad I did. This was a delicious sandwich.

EK B.

Yelp
The Polish sampler and the stuffed cabbage were fabulous. I have never had a bad meal here. They are very nice and helpful.

Yelp
We came for the pierogis and they did not disappoint....in fact they were so good that we took a bunch home for later. But the fresh kielbasa sandwich......oh my Lord. Maybe the best sandwich I've had. Ever. The sausage itself was really good, but the combo with the onion and pepper and whatever magic sauce they use....I want to bring people there right now just so I can get another one. Service was pretty quick, especially for a small place, and very friendly. The store has a of Polish groceries and a nice-looking selection of sausages and cheese and things like that. But that's just a bonus, I would come back if the only thing on offer was the sandwich! Needless to say, I'll be back.
google avatar

Rakesh M.

Yelp
Their smoked sausage sandwich is The REAL DEAL. The sausage is way better than anything you can find in the area...I ate it so fast, couldn't help myself. ALSO, the customer service is fantastic. They're very friendly, knowledgable and keep it fun while working hard....what more can you ask for! Will be coming back, soon : )

Yelp
I haven't tried their sandwiches or other foods that they offer (heard it's really good from neighbors and reviews). Area: it's a small store on the corner next to pollo mex. parking is a little tight around that spot but more space around Giant which is right next to Polka. Customer service: Amazing and friendly people! Store itself: I'm not too familiar about their foods but they had a good variety on snacks, canned food, different sausages, sandwiches, and desserts. Reasonable prices. The things I got were a potato salad and a walnut cake. I was hoping to try their cheesecake but they didn't have any. Either way the two items I got were super good. Cake was moist and potato salad was flavorful. Nothing to complain. Great place and people.

Yelp
I came here based off Yelp reviews snd the fact that it's a local small business near me. We asked for suggestions for EVERYTHING lol. I forget which sausages we got but we got two different sausages, Perogies combo and a jar of pickles. Ive never had perogies outside of those samples from Costco so I didn't know what to expect. I was pretty surprised at how much I enjoyed them!! My husband didn't feel the same way though. The sausages were super tasty. Even the pickles were good. lol writing out this review makes me want to give them a visit sometime this week. There was a man there who looked like a regular.. I believe he ordered three pounds of this skinny sausage because he enjoyed it so much. That's a lot!! Lol must mean it's good right. They do offer samples if you ask them but we were already done with our order. Support small businesses and try different things!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is amazing, my mind and tastebuds are still blown Great products from Poland in their shop, amazing deli and the prepared hot food is delicious! We got the pork schnitzel, stuffed cabbage, mixed pirogies, beet salad, apple streusel and cherry cheesecake, along with a jarred sauerkraut and some of their kielbasa by the pound to cook at home. Everything tasted homemade-made with alllll the love- and the kielbasa was some of the best sausage I've ever had! This was honestly one of the best meals I've had in recent memory. I will go out of my way to come back to this establishment, so happy I randomly popped in!
google avatar

Katelyn K.

Yelp
I like several others use to make the trip cross county to the Kielbasa Factory until I discovered Polka Deli nearly in my neighborhood. I love the fresh kitchen where you can order up hot pierogi or any number of the daily specials they have. I won't lie I am already looking forward to this fall and a big bowl of Rye Soup or Pickle Soup from Polka Deli. Lots of stuff to pick up and bring home to make your own Polish delights too.
google avatar

Anna W.

Yelp
Clean store, usually really well stocked with deli meat as well as salads and hot food to go. Their shelves are also well stocked with pickles, spices, sweets and face creams etc. The service is lovely and helpful. Prices are actually really high. I know that they have to get these things delivered etc but theirs prices are literally double of what I pay in NYC.
google avatar

Cole L.

Yelp
Really as good as it gets! I've never had authentic Polish food, but I can definitely tell the food made here is fresh and delicious. I started with the deli meats and kept coming back for the perogies, pork schnitzel, fluffy/pillowy potato dumpling, pate sandwich. Oh and the deli meats, the pork tongue with blood, headcheese, sausages!
google avatar

Flo C.

Yelp
I can't speak for the food since the unpleasant looks and no greeting I got from an employee drove me out of there quickly. I thought perhaps I was mistaken, so I walked around the shop, which is quite nice and clean. Maybe the emplyoyee was having a bad day, but I was clean and well-dressed and a mature woman. I won't return. Too bad. I enjoy supporting local businesses.
google avatar

Joshua W.

Yelp
My go to for Kielbasa has always been the Kielbasa Factory in Rockville, so to find out that there was a new Polish deli literally down the road from me was exciting. I stopped in to see what they had, and I was impressed. They have a fair selection of different kielbasas, and I got several pounds of a few different types to take home. They were every bit as good as any other kielbasa I've had, but the location is great. There's plenty of parking, and getting in and out of the shopping centre is easy. The staff are friendly and helpful, even for someone like me who just wants "everything, please... I mean, I don't know what I want."

Angela R.

Yelp
I had the cabbage roll with potatoes and it was fabulous. Tasted like I remember and was moist and yummy. Served with sauce to pore over it. The potatoes were sliced and fried not greasy but really tasty. We also picked up some deli things as well as some pastries to enjoy later. Staff very attentive and only a couple seats for eating in but outside seats as well. Definitely will be returning well worth the trip from Baltimore

Cliff K.

Yelp
Great food at fair prices. Home cooked flavor to everythingI have ordered there and run by very nice people Weiner Schnitzel is just about the best I ever had--made into a luncheon sandwich. Definitely recommend this place for ethnic food!!!!!
google avatar

An D.

Yelp
I had potato and cheese pierogi for the first time and it was delicious! Very flavorful and they have a very large selection of polish chocolate and candy.
google avatar

Daniel D.

Yelp
Mouthwatering and generous kielbasa sandwiches (I had the reuben), amazing pastries, and a variety of Polish goods. The staff are very friendly and the service was faster than most fast food restaurants.
google avatar

Alex R.

Yelp
Great food and sides/condiments that go with it. I've had the pierogis and sausage roll. Wonderful!
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
First time stoping by Polka Deli and was pleasantly surprised with how delicious everything was. We ordered a Ruben and the fresh kielbasa sandwich and they both were flavorful with every bite. The potato salad was delicious - my favorite part of the whole meal! And, of course, the pierogis were really good. I think the kraut and mushroom ones were the best but you don't even need to choose! You can order a mix! I'm excited to go back and try some other authentic Polish food! Their website has an updated deli menu so take a look.
google avatar

Kat A.

Yelp
I've been a few times and love love love it. Props to these Polish ladies! They're doing an awesome job! My favorite part of the Polka Deli is the grocery side. I'm Slovak and often have a difficult time finding certain ingredients for cooking. They have them and then some! Everything from spices to spaetzle to candy and first communion cards! If you can't find it elsewhere they probably have it. The only reason they get four stars instead of five is because they run out of things on the deli side quite early (around 4pm in my experience). The earlier you go the better for hot food. Pierogies are on point and really much better warmed and heated up with onions on their end compared to the frozen equivalents you have to get when they're all out. Still, it's great they have a plan b for when they're all out. Sandwiches are pretty darn good too - I've had both the ham and the breaded pork chop (which is quite tasty and ginormous!) Golabki is also pretty good - not quite as good as my uncle's but close! So glad they opened this spot and be sure to check them out if you haven't already. If you're Eastern European and need certain ingredients before Easter they'll most likely have it!

Martyna D.

Yelp
I went there to send a package to my family and right away I was informed they won't accept it because they're too busy. When I said I drove a long way to get there they agreed to take it once it's less busy. People kept on walking in so I left after twenty minutes of not being acknowledged. No sorry, nothing, just the cashier complaining to everyone how she works 12 hours a day and has no time to prepare for Christmas. Typical Polish people. Zero respect for the costumer, zero interest in helping and complaining about their lives to strangers.
google avatar

Glenn J.

Yelp
Scored some delicious pierogies and beet salad for Xmas eve dinner. Will definitely be back. Check them out for your Polish food needs.

Rosey W.

Yelp
Our family enjoyed visiting Polka Deli and picking up several entrees for dinner and dessert "to go" yesterday. The kids loved the kielbasa. I liked the chicken schnitzel. The pirogies were AMAZING! My husband picked out some cheesecake too. Freshest cheesecake ever! The kids enjoyed selecting fun polish snacks and treats too!! The staff were very friendly. I heard about the deli here: https://www.sourceofthespring.com/silver-spring/polka-deli-is-best-deli-in-maryland/
google avatar

Sharon W.

Yelp
Polka Deli is a delightful addition to the Colesville Shopping area. It's small and neat and clean. As you enter the cashier and the deli counter are on your left. The deli counter has a variety of sausages and meats. They also offer some sandwiches with a side of pickle or Polish salad. There is a wide variety of canned and jarred foods. In the back section is a refrigerator case with a number of different pierogis, Polish salad and other goodies. We bought a pound of kielbasa, sausage, beer mustard and a small container of salad. With my husband's fond memories of Pennsylvania and Ohio, I'm sure we will be back many more times.

Jenna P.

Yelp
Ordered a BLT with extra bacon and it was the best BLT I've ever had. Super authentic mom and pop style restaurant and I love it.
google avatar

Yelp
Great customer service. Sausage sandwich with onions was delicious. They have a good variety of Polish products and the prices are good too. I will be back!

Yelp
I got exited to learn about the opening of a new Polish market, only the third in the entire DC metro area. Polka Deli is unique though, as it also has a kitchen serving classic hot dishes, such as pierogi, pork cutlets and kielbasa. When I visited Polka Deli in the opening week I was pleased with warm and polite service at the counter, as well as great quality deli food. I ordered a variety plate of 10 pierogi (three types: meat, potato, sauerkraut and mushroom) They were fresh and delicious! A couple of traditional Polish pastries that I purchased: cheesecake and makowiec (poppyseed roll) disappeared quickly and I had to go back a few days later to buy more. Polka Deli is definitely a perfect addition to a rich market of ethnic restaurants and speciality stores in Silver Spring.
google avatar

Jay K.

Yelp
Terrific Polish Market with good selection of meats, cheeses and hot food options. I tried the pork chop sandwich and a mix of 10 peirogies, both of which were fantastic! The pork chop sandwich came with a delicious vegatable and potato salad. The store also has a decent of various Polish sweet treats, chocolates and drinks. The staff were also very welcoming and provided excellent service!
google avatar

Gina R.

Yelp
Nice and clean place. But I don't enjoy my food. The sandwich is cold, it doesn't taste fresh.
google avatar

YT B.

Yelp
Great Polish food, made the old fashion way. Perfect lunch spot. Excellent Polish specialty food in the market. This is the real deal; do not miss.
google avatar

Carol R.

Yelp
My daughter and I went there this morning. We both love the place! Great food selection and friendly staff. I grew up in Chicago where there is no shortage of Polish delis. It is wonderful to now have one close to home. We will definitely be regular customers at the Polka Deli.

Max E.

Yelp
Very charming local small business deli and shop for Polish/Eastern European type groceries. We picked up lunch from the deli portion and really liked the smoked kielbasa, chicken schnitzel, and potato/cheese pierogies. We were not fans of the meat pierogies. Probably just not our taste.
google avatar

Mike B.

Yelp
The best meal I've had in a long, long time! Authentic Polish cuisine from Polka Deli - MD! Potato and cheese Pierogi, Golumpki and potatoes, and some chrusciki for dessert. 10/10! Reminded me of my Nana and Dziadu's cooking.
