I highly recommend getting the salteñas. They are favorite item there. The food is amazing and I'm not the biggest fan of Peruvian. Good priced chicken and a very professional team.

It's a lunch/ carry out spot and not meant to have "atmosphere". That said, it's locally owned and operated by Great people with fantastic food. Pollo Brassero is the style of food but also the name. Peruvian chicken. Not as juicy as Rico. But great location and reasonably priced. They have beer too.

Local spot for chicken meal for family. They are fast service, especially on night's you don't plan on cooking. Pickup or delivery available. We enjoy the half chicken meal with rice & yucca. Fills up well & they add two different sauces to the bag. Plantains as the dessert!

A couple days before I bought the same order and the rude lady charged me $3 extra for whole chicken. She always does that. Very rude to people who is not Peruvian. Tired of her doing that. The days I buy the same food when she’s not there, it’s cheaper. When she’s there she always charges you more for what you regularly pay. Less portion and she charges you more.

Been coming here for a while today I ordered half a chicken with coleslaw and got no slaw. The unpleasant lady at the counter charged me $15 and purposely closed the bag without putting the cold slaw in there. People are what they say she is, straight up unfriendly.

Excellent, been going there for years. Chicken, fries cold slaw black beans. Salad verde and the yellow sauce really sets it off. Every time we come to DC get it at least once a week. Delicious chicken plus Bolivian salteñas! You wouldn't know to look at it, but this place is charming and homey. My kid now asks for yucca frita. We're going to become regulars!

Delicious chicken with lots of great choices for sides. Everyone can find something delicious. This is our go to chicken place.

The food is good. Great portions. The service is quick and efficient. A good sized sitting area. The restaurant area is clean, although the TV is usually tuned to a Spanish language station. No complaints though.

I've been to this spot at least 20 times. I love how the food is so tasty and the staff always have a smile on their face. The prices are reasonable and the parking is plentiful. I normally get the half white meat with mashed potatoes and gravy with mixed veggies. If you decide to stop by, you will be very pleased.

Oh hell no!!!!! I'm done this year is the worst "f 2024" & let's please make sure people don't treat empanadas like hand sanitizer when covid first started. please go out of business! I use to pay HERE........ for "2"empanadas $3.75 I asked chat what the increase was because I just payed (rounded up) $18 for 4 empanadas they increased by 380% this places empanadas are not even that good I am just hungry from working a 12 hour shift i'm done eating out. Why are they treating Americans in America like Americans in A foreign country this has to stop. I'll never shop here again, nor any other place that is overcharging. I'm done with merica. Please, if you are a hacker this is the one you need to hack and cause chaos too! No thank you to this buisness! Owwwww weeee

Read some of the reviews for this place but the ones that gave it 5 star is questionable at best. I decided to give it a try and this is what I know. The chicken is so-so and dry. Slaw is okay, about the only thing that taste decent. The yucca fries upset my tummy so I only ate one. The yucca fries have a good texture and flavor but can't eat them after my stomach started flip flopping. The sauces are blah, too. The staff was not too friendly and the price was a bit high for what you get. Save your money and eat elsewhere in my opinion.

A small business that definitely is worth a try! Their Peruvian chicken tastes pretty good and I think they give out generous portion sizes for what you order. It's a bit overpriced but I know it helps out small businesses like themselves. The chicken is generally juicy and tastes warm and flavorful. For their sides, my family and I usually get their Yucca or Fries. As for the sauces, my favorite is the green one, but they also provide a white sauce as well. Any extra sauces have an additional charge. They don't give you a lot of sauce compared to how much food you actually get so that is a bit disappointing knowing that you're already anticipating on paying for extra containers of sauce. Otherwise, it's a great option in the area.

Saw this passing by on the bus and I said let me check them out. Got the 1/4 dark w/fries and plantains, a beef milanese, side of cole slaw, rice pudding and limoncello cake. And the results the Chicken, Fries, Green Hot Sauce and the limoncello cake are DELISH! the coleslaw was good. The plantains were hard and dried out, the beef milanese sandwich and rice pudding did not have flavor and it was thin pieces of beef the lettuce was larger than the meat. Customer service was good, it was BUSY!!!! the prices are on par with the area and Yes! I will be going back to re-order the chicken and that Green Sauce.

I have been going to this place for years. The owners are extremely friendly and always provide great service. I no longer live near their location but anytime I go to my moms house my mouth waters for their Milanesa de pollo w cheese.... Emphasis on the CHEESE... it completes the sand which. Their fries are always golden and crispy. Their yellow sauce is fantastic as well so make sure to get a side to dip your fries in.

Tried this for the first time. It didn't wow me. I like Don Pollo and Pollo Central much more than this. Like someone else said, the chicken here is not as salty as other places. But unfortunately it was also much drier than other places. Price is about the same as everyone else for whole chicken with 2 sides. Their green sauce is fairly different from everyone else's, I personally didn't like it as much as the Don Pollo one but I could see how someone else could appreciate its flavor profile. Parking is ample and the inside of the restaurant seemed very clean.

Better customer service needed. I was hung up on abruptly after calling to discuss the minimal French fries provided with meal. Was told I would need to buy more fries. I get the same meal at this restaurant. I inquired if they have changed their portion sizes. That's when I was told I'd have to buy more fries. After being hung up on, I called to say I would be returning the meal. When a REPEAT customer gets the same meal all the time, there is a level of expectation that you are getting what you're accustomed to. I expect prices to go up in this day & age, but not less food for the same advertised price. Anyhow, most restaurants, when a customer returns a meal, would rather just make it right instead of losing money on a returned meal that would go in the trash. How much goodwill could have been extended by providing a few more steak fries??? Anyways, the rudeness has made them lose a customer!

I've been coming here for a few years and wonder why I never gave it a review. This is a pretty safe bet for Peruvian chicken. Their chicken has pretty good flavor, their French fries are the thick steak cut fries, and their coleslaw is the best. Honestly, it's the close proximity and cole slaw that keeps me coming back. It's weird that I'm attracted to their coleslaw, it has a really good sweetness to it, almost like KFC's coleslaw. I think it's that... like KFC's coleslaw mixed with Golden Taste Coleslaw from Costco. Now before you go on about I'm praising this place's coleslaw and think I'm making a claim that it will ruin all other coleslaws for you, know these two things.... 1) my pitch for becoming a Yelp Elite was to review all the McDonald's and try to create a grid of tolerable McD's that most likely won't forget your order in the drive thru, and 2) no one in my family likes the coleslaw and my wife thinks I'm trash for eating trash food. Well dear wifey, you married trash... wait... what... I digress, I personally feel that this coleslaw was create for me and only me... or maybe not... But overall, this is a pretty decent place for Peruvian chicken... price is decent and food is pretty good... especially the coleslaw... at least that's what I think...

Good food for a decent price I ordered the chicken with yucca and sweet plantains I like the fact that the chicken wasn't over seasoning like other Peruvian places (Don Pollo Sardis) The Yucca was crispy and the plantsins very sweet I also order the steak Milanese with fries and it was very good The only thing I didn't like was the lomo saltado, the meat was chewy and dried The portions are generous and service was frendly

I've lived in Glenmont/Aspen Hill for nearly 4 years, and I've spent a lot of money at this restaurant. The food is great, no doubt. Sometimes the breast-wing is a little dry, but it's still good food. Over the years, I've noticed the main woman, and the primary man server are just generally rude, and impatient with people. Today, was the last straw. You don't have to be fluent in a language to know when two humans beings are negatively discussing you, in your face! Well, today was the last time I spend my money to be treated poorly. Don Pollo is a chain, but the service and people are always nice

I really like this place. The food is good, the portions are generous, the service is fast, and it's only a mile from my house. I've been getting dinner there every couple weeks for the last few years, including a lot of takeout during the pandemic. I especially like the chicken and sides, but I've also enjoyed the empanadas and saltenas, among other things. I recommend it!

I prefer to support this small business rather than other chain stores. I like the family that runs this and I enjoy the flavor of the chicken as well as their generous portion sizes of the sides! The only complaint that I do have here, is that they are a bit stingy with their sauces. They come in a pretty small container and any extra is 25 cents. Overall, I think the taste is very good! Their pricing is reasonable and I think you get your money's worth.

The food is some what ok. The chicken is actually pretty good but after that it goes down hill. The vegetables appear to be canned vegetables and are never fresh. It's so easy to make white rice I'm not sure how they keep messing that up. They are very stingy with the fried yuca portions. But to be honest the worst part of it all is that they are completely unfriendly. The managers or owners which are usually at the register are an older couple and they are the most unfriendly people you will ever meet. Felt like I was ordering from the soup nazi (Seinfeld). After dealing with this type of service I decided not to give them my money. I will not be back here.

Man, there's like a million Peruvian chicken spot out here. But this one always hits the spot. You can smell the smoke from the parking lot, the chicken actually has flavor and always moist. The green sauce actually has a bit of heat, and the white sauce always compliments it well. I got the quarter dark, yuca fries and beans, it's going to get you right every time. Definitely one of the better Peruvian joints around the area.

Charcoal broiled, Peruvian-style chicken! (Google Translate doesn't tell me what "brasero" means. The only definition I can find is something about a heater used in Spain...?) When I saw that Pollo Brasero was taking over the space that Korean-owned Chicken George once occupied, I gave myself a 2-second moment of silence for my brethren, and then began to rejoice that a Peruvian chicken restaurant was going to be this close to me! I was surprised at how many items were on the menu. They have salads, sandwiches, etc., but you know all I came for was that 1/4 dark meat chicken with two sides for $4.35! Service was quite slow...I was the third in line but ended up waiting around 5 minutes to place my order. Inconvenient, but forgivable. I don't think they were expecting this many people on their opening weekend, and things didn't seem to be running as smoothly as I'd liked. The chicken itself was alright. A bit dry and overcooked (the skin was almost blackened), but the seasoning was delicious. The sauces, fries and coleslaw made me feel like I was having deja vu - it was exactly the way dear old El Pollo Rico made them. The sides were excellent. For as cheap as it is, I will definitely be coming back. Hopefully they'll smooth over the rough edges soon.

I absolutely love this place which is by far my favorite Peruvian chicken restaurant in the DC area. The chicken is juicy and delicious. I love the yellow sauce, but the green is great on the beef empanadas. A buddy of mine got the ceviche mixto and really enjoyed it. All the sides I have had are great. My go tos are the steamed veggies and fries, both of which they load onto my quarter dark order. The mashed potatoes (get it with gravy), yuca, and beans are also great. The woman who rings you up is always nice and very efficient. I always try to drop by after a round at Northwest Golf Course or when I used to visit my dad's office out here. Don't forget to get something at Flowers Bakery in the same shopping center!

We only have had the chicken. I make my own sides like potato salad and greens to complete the meal. I thought the chicken was very good, nicely seasoned and tender. We had leftover chicken and I was really impressed when a day and a half after serving the first round, we sliced the remaining breast and served it for lunch. It was still very moist. We are not in that area too often but if we were I would happily pick up their chicken again.

I came here on Saturday just a few minutes or an hour before closing, I was off from work and on my way to a friends house and we decided to come here. Ive been here before ive never had issues with the food, but for some reason this night was different from any night ive ever experienced. Had i known that id be getting a stomach virus including my friend whom i shared the food with ( we didnt use the same plate) 3 days before my birthday i wouldve never come here. I dont ever plan on coming here again because this is worst pain ive ever felt in a while. I cant eat anything but fruit. Thanks for feeding us contaminated food.

This place is amazing!! Authentic food and atmosphere! The chicken is cut right in front of you, fresh as you walk in for each order. For sides, I absolutely need you to get the yucca... it's like french fries but thicker and better. Again, this is fresh made to order... so delicious it will blow your mind! Also, they stay fresher and hotter longer than regular french fries. These babies will be hot for an hour at least--no joke. The chicken was melt in your hands delicious, plan on not using utensils to eat anything And the sauces that come with it are to die for. The green sauce is essentially cilantro in a blender. If you love cilantro, you'll love this sauce... if you don't love cilantro, calm down (you're missing out but fine, it tastes like soap to you) the yellow sauce will knock your sombrero off. It's so mellow and creamy, but adds great flavor to the chicken. The only problem is you'll always need more, but just ask and they'll hook you up. Rice primavera is nice, although it could be a little better, but it doesn't matter cause you're going to order the yucca and like it better anyway. Getting 4 sides? You're getting 4 yucca. YUCCA YUCCA YUCCA

Got the lomo saltado and fried plantains. Can't complain. Lomo was pretty good. Didn't seem like enough meet or fries, but I'm not sure bc people were picking at my plate... and the plantains were fried really well; just the way I like them! The green sauce was good, but not spicy enough.

I was on a long, cold bike ride and needed a break and something quick to eat to keep from cramping. Passing by the 7-Eleven in hopes of anything better, I ran into Pollo Brasero and saw what looked like two plump empanadas behind the counter. "I'll take your last two." They brought them to me on a plate and I would soon find out why. Thinking I could just pick one up and eat it like a sandwich (or an empanada), it turned out to be juicy and I had to set it down and eat it with a fork. Chicken, peas, potatoes, olives, and an egg, what a meal! I asked the guy if these were empanadas and he said, "No, Salteñas." You've never had anything like this before in your life, believe me. If you are cycling anywhere near the Matthew Hensen or Intercounty Connector trails, this is your pit stop.

I've tried a lot of Peruvian chicken in the area and in other states, this place pretty much beats them all. Sauce is great! Chicken is moist! Yucca is crunchy! The kicker is (and reason for 3 stars) that the people who work there are not nice. Always act like you being there is the worst thing in the world. Very skimpy on sides and sauces. And it's hit or miss sometimes you will get someone who gives as many sauces as you want, but then next time someone charges you for another? Consistency to me is key. Overall the food is good and does the job.

Rarely do I write reviews while still full from the food I've just eaten, but LET ME JUST TELL YA"LL. That chicken boy! wooo weee. It's smells divine. What ever seasoning they use it perfectly done and its juicy, tender and just the right size for a late lunch. And that sauce... I ordered the 1/4 chicken dark meat, yellow rice, beans and plantains. All of it was warm, delicious and having the sauce on all my chicken and rice was so worth the 25 cents extra I paid for more sauce. All of that came to $8. I'm just going to succumb the the food coma... if you don't hear from me, I died happily.

Chicken is dry, nothing special. Green sauce tastes like fresh green peppers instead of the Peruvian green sauce that we all know. I was really excited since this place replaced Chicken George and it's right by my house, but I was very disappointed. Will this one location be cursed forever and only provide its patrons with mediocre chicken? Who knows? Just open up a Popeye's and make everyone happy.

I've been to this restaurant twice recently and enjoyed it both times! Their chicken, plantains and empanadas are DELICIOUS! Pricing is reasonable and the staff is very pleasant as well. This is easily going to become my go to for chicken empanadas when I'm in Silver Spring!! In the words of the immortal Arnold Schwarzenegger, "I'll be back!"

Sharon is so wrong. Sorry, sharon. This place is HORRIBLE. I used to live up the street from it and I was so excited for its opening (as I would have to drive all the way to Twinbrook for my beloved Don Pollo). So I finally got a visit in a few days after it opened and yeesh.... left much to be desired. I let it slide because they just opened, but weeks, months later it never got better. Their chicken is SO DRY. The seasoning is okay, but it is overwhelmed by the dryness of the meat. It's seriously like chewing on playdough. UCK! And their fries are just as dry, never fresh (they just hang there in the tray all day). Their only saving grace is their empanadas. Ahhhh soooo juicy, easily their best and most consistent item on the menu. it's the only reason I go back. Another thing that pisses me off about this place is the price. Super expensive for such poor food. SMH. It's not my favorite, but when I'm craving empanadas and I'm in the area, I have to make a stop. I feel bad for Layhill because this is all they get in terms of peruvian chicken. Whackness! Don Pollo is definitely EONS better than this place.

Very little portions for a big price, and if you dine in watch out for the bag charge ... they will rip you off in your face.

My sister brought me back food from here and it was delicious! CHICKEN: We both ordered the 1/4 white meat chicken. It was cooked perfectly with a nice spice blend. The actual piece of chicken was huge. A lot bigger than I've seen at other places. MEXICAN RICE: Very good. It comes topped with black beans. It is very fulfilling by itself. PLANTANES: Yum! Nice and sweet and a light glaze. COLESLAW: Very good! Large portion for a side. SAUCES: Ask for extra dipping sauce. They're both very good but it will cost ya! About 50 cents/sauce We will be returning!

I've been coming to this place for years but I had a terrible experience last night. I ordered the quarter dark with two sides I ate some and saved the rest for the next morning. I woke up feeling really sick and wasn't sure what it was from until I re heated my leftovers as I was eating the chicken I saw a whole bunch pink uncooked meat. I stopped eating the food and threw the whole meal away. Luckily it was cheap but a waste of my money. Maybe they were rushing that night I'm not sure but I won't be going back. On top of that I found a piece of hair in my food the people in the front serve food without hair nets really nasty. I have pictures to prove my point.

I love supporting small businesses like this plus it's close to my house. The chicken is good! I'm not crazy about their yucca or dipping sauces... Crisp and Juicy definitely has them beat in those two areas. Still a great choice for a relatively healthy, quick pickup meal on weeknights. There's something for everyone in my family there.

Nothing like Crispy n juicy! I don't care what ppl say but there is no comparison. Yes it's good, but it isn't as authentic as most places. I only like their empanadas and their steak sandwich.. The rest is average... Their green spicy sauce is pretty good too. It's like an aji. I give it props for standing strong in plaza del mercado. Most buisnesses that have been there before pollo brasero have all failed within months.

Best Peruvian chicken in the area hands down, if not a bit overpriced due the owners knowing this fact. P.S. Wheaton has options that blow it out the water for considerably cheaper though, if your willing to make the drive.

I've actually never been to this resturant even though it's close to me, I only happened to find out about this place a couple of days ago when a patient at the office I work at was so apprecative and happy with our service that he offered to bring us free lunch. Well he kept his promise and bought my manager and I the fried yuca, the half chicken, mixed vegatables, and soda. The food tasted great, not to mention that was very generous of him. I will be stopping by the actual location in the near future.

If you're looking for inexpensive, quality Peruvian-style chicken, go no further than here. This place rocks. The prices are really good, the chicken (and all the food for that matter) is delicious, and the place is amazingly clean.

Has to be the worst pollo a la brasa I've had. I've eatin at many but this one needs help. I had 1/2 chicken 2 sides. I'd rather take the drive to Sardi's in Beltsville. Lets start with the chicken....... Flavor seemed ok but the bird was dry as can be. Yuca fries taste like they come already battered and frozen, not used to the taste, or just spoiled by Sardi's or Crisp & Juicys. Rice was awful no taste. The sauces wern't good either. The white sauce was straight mayo and the green sauce did not have any flavor. I hope this place gets better or it will go down like chicken george(didn't like that place either.) Man, I miss bwb..... I'll go back in about a month and see if it gets better but for the time being Sardi's is worth the drive in Beltsville or El pollo rico when it opens back up in Wheaton.

Does anyone remember the first time they ate popeyes chicken?! That's how I felt when my bf and I ate here today. I got so full from the half chicken and the sauces are soo amazing! I really wanted the side of veggies but it looked like they were all out. :( My bf loves the rice. I can't rate them on the flan b/c there is only two places out of at least 10 that I've tried in the DMV that can get it exactly right and that's Monterey's in Bowie and Gaupos in Tenleytown. The fried plantains were ok, but I'm picky about my plantains too. GO FOR THE CHICKEN!!! :P

Please save your money. I've only been here once and the lady who was taking my order was so rude. Like she wanted me to order as fast as I could and leave. There was no one else inside so it's not like I was taking anyone else's time. The chicken was not even that good. I recommend Don Pollo in Glenmont, better prices, better options and very tasty.

Always amazing... especially on days you are craving it. I work right near this place. It looks bad from the outside, but it's very good inside! The price isn't bad, and the portions are great. I often get a whole chicken's combo meal with sides.. and take out. It's cheap and convenient! Around lunch, you can see a whole bunch of men watching soccer games on the TV. But it's relaxed and a nice quiet place to eat lunch alone too. Everything that they make is good. I normally get steamed vegetables and rice/beans.. or the house salad which is good. I think at first, some side items could taste bland to you, but there's salt and pepper packets to-go, if you like more taste.

Way too salty. Not sure if this was a fluke or if this standard as it was my first visit. I had 1/4 white, black beans and white rice. I tasted everything independently and it was all salty. Some people might enjoy this meal, but I won't be back. It's also on the pricey side.

This place got worst with each visit. First time: Food was great, service okay. Second time: Food was still pretty good, but it took them forever to get my food packed because they were watching America's Got Talent -___- Third time: I wanted my meal with fried yuca, but when I got home, I discovered they gave me fries. Fourth time: Yucca was cold. House Salad was good. Chicken is close to the salty boarder. The price and location (3 mins away from home) is good, so I probably still will come again (but only if I am super hungry) Hopefully, they become better.

Not bad. This place is one of our after-gym protein locations, and the chicken ain't half bad. At least it was warm, tasty, and I didn't get the impression it had been sitting around forever. We got a combo deal, which wasn't too badly priced. The rice side kind of sucked, so I won't get that again. The yucca here is pretty tasty, as well. I think the guys ringing us up were laughing at me, though. So...one star loss. Jerks! Yeah, but I'll still eat your chicken and yucca and STILL come in y'all's establishment post-gym, all sweaty and stank. So there.

After reading the reviews, I wasn't expecting much, but boy was I surprised! The chicken was juicy and delicious and cooked perfectly. The fried yucca looked like it might have been frozen (they all had the same shape), but it was delicious! I found myself cramming them down my gullet. The empanadas were OK, but I'm not a fan of them in general. I also loved the plantains - hot and fresh and yummy. We will definitely be making this a frequent stop for inexpensive, delicious dinners for the family.

Pretty good. My husband and I tried pollo brasero for the first time this week. The chicken is tender and flavorful. The black beans were cooked perfectly. The highlight of our meal was the empanadas. Very tasty! I particularly enjoyed the beef empanadas. The plantains were not as juicy as I like plus you have to pay extra if you choose that as a side. The steamed vegetables were nothing special. Quite bland. Overall, we gave brasero a B. Our favorite Peruvian chicken spot still reigns.
