Where to Eat Along Virginia’s Scenic Skyline Drive | Eater DC

"For the thrill of dining right off Skyline Drive, this in-park resort restaurant delivers panoramic Shenandoah Valley views and an approachable all-day menu, and the move is to finish with a slice of mile-high blackberry ice cream pie, a regional specialty." - Stephanie Ganz

Great place to stop and eat while exploring Skyline Drive. There was a wait to be seated but they did give us the option to sit in another dining room. We declined because we wanted to sit in the dining room with the view. We waited about 30 minutes but it wasnt too bad. We got lucky and got a table directly beside the window. We really appreciated the view! We ordered the wings and brussel sprouts for an appetizer. They were really good! My son and I got the Forrester Pasta with chicken. We really enjoyed it. I added a salad. It was really fresh with a nice variety of veggies! My husband got the Roasted Half Chicken with mashed potatoes and asparagus. He didn't love his meal. The portion of the sides were small and he said the chicken was not well seasoned. My youngest son got the burger. It was a good size for a kid meal. He loved the fries that came with it. Our boys ordered dessert, too! The Creme Brulee Cheesecake and Flourless Chocolate Torte were both delicious! Our server was very attentive and sweet. She went out of her way to take some wonderful pictures for our family to remember our experience. We will definitely dine here again!

Tasty lunch quick bites with a wonderful view is a great combination. The service Abigail provided was top-notch. She made sure that our 4-legged friend was comfortable and made sure that our food came out right. Dinner service was also wonderful especially during sunset.

My date and I dined here four times and scored a window seat 3/4. The food was delicious and the portion was generous. Dinner was too much for us to finish, we settled for an entree and a soup the second time we dined here. Definitely go here if you’re in Skyland, very convenient location. They had nightly life music in the tap room. The atmosphere was quite merry and chill.

We have driven Skyline Drive three times and we make sure to stop every time to have dinner at the Skyland Lodge. The food is EXCELLENT! So cozy and homey with an amazing view of you sit by the windows! My fiancé eats here specifically for the pork shank which is consistently delicious!! To finish off your meal you HAVE TO HAVE THE BLACKBERRY COBBLER WITH THE BLACKBERRY ICE CREAM!! It will be one of the most amazing desserts you’ll ever have!

We dined here several times during our stay, and overall, Pollock Dining Room delivers a solid experience—especially considering it’s inside a national park lodge. The food quality is surprisingly good, though prices are as high as you’d expect in a remote location like this. Wait times can be long: about 30 minutes to get seated and another 20 before food arrives, so be prepared to relax and take in the views. Dinner here shines more than breakfast. The ribeye steak was well-cooked and juicy, paired with velvety mashed potatoes and perfectly tender broccolini. The Forest Pasta with grilled chicken was another standout—rich, flavorful, and not dry at all. The pimento cheese dip came with warm, soft pretzel bites that were addictive. For dessert, the vanilla ice cream and mango sorbet were both refreshing and creamy—truly satisfying. Breakfast, on the other hand, felt less impressive. Portions are a bit on the smaller side and the offerings are fairly standard, nothing particularly memorable. The dining room itself has a warm, rustic charm, with large windows that frame beautiful mountain views. During dinner, you can sometimes catch live music or spot the twinkling lights from Luray far below at dusk, adding to the ambiance.

Overall disappointing and felt rushed. We chose this place based on the reviews, photos, and it seeming a decent restaurant compared to other options nearby, however it is not a place I would ever return to nor will I recommend. Starting with the food and drinks, we arrived right at the start of dinner and were promptly seated by the window. It was nice and we ordered some cocktails. After our first few sips, we immediately started to question if there was any alcohol in them at all. When our food came (in seemingly record time), the presentation seemed to be aimed at appearing higher end, but the consensus from all four of us was that everything was way over cooked. It was clear that everything had been premade way in advance and warmed up. I would have thought being one of the first people seated for dinner the food would have been much fresher. The service was a bit wanting. Although we received everything we ordered quickly, it was as if we were being rushed out of there like we were in a cafeteria that had a huge line out the door. More than half of the tables were empty because it was still early. That didn’t stop our waitress from bringing a dessert menu when we weren’t even halfway done our dinner plates. When we said we weren’t thinking about dessert, she then immediately brought our check to us with still half full plates. Don’t worry, she made sure to tell us “no rush” as she placed it on the table while we were still in the middle of eating. Never were we asked if we wanted our check, or if we wanted a second drink. It was very rushed feeling for no reason. The cherry on top was the mosquitos and flies constantly flying around and biting our legs. The previous reviews and even my own photos paint a deceiving picture. This place is not worth the high prices they charge, it is simply conveniently placed with ok food at best.

This is a very unique dining experience. The portions are bigger than what is needed but the price is also higher so it makes sense to some degree. The food has great flavors and is delicious. The staff in the restaurant is great and very helpful. I really enjoyed the Turkey Dinner.
