The service was excellent! They have a raspberry wine that is phenomenal. The atmosphere was great for large groups. The dill pickle soup was delicious.

Google
Such a wonderful dinner experience. Get there by 6:00 or they may be out of some things (it’s that good). They sing in Polish to their birthday customers. The whole family is working to make this business run smoothly. The service was wonderful. The Polish music and family vibe is so welcoming. They have a full bar. If you like Polish food, you have to make the trip!

Google
The building is cute and cozy with friendly staff. Our server was so sweet and let us try the different polish wines (I recommend the honey wine!) and czernina. The food is great too. Soups were good and the mains/sides were better than the famous Polish Village Cafe in Hamtramck. The potato pancakes were crispy. Will be coming again.

Google
I absolutely love this place. When my grandparents come to visit from Pennsylvania, we always come to eat here. There is the sweetest woman who works hard every day and told us a lot of stories. Prices are not bad at all, and it just feels so comfy and cozy to be there. Food is amazing and delicious!

Google
You feel welcomed from the moment you walk in. They work very hard to provide top notch service, while still being a very fun place to eat. My family celebrates together often there and they are always happy to accommodate us. So much so, their family is a part of our family's tradition. Singing happy birthday with us in English and Polish is always amazing there. Besides all of that... The food is always fresh, delicious, and in abundance! Starting with the bread, amazing entrées and perfect desserts!! IF I COULD GIVE 10 STARS I WOULD!

Google
We ate at polonus on the 16th of July. It was one of the worst meals I ever ate there. The pierogi was overcooked and had no taste whatsoever the potato pancakes are so overcooked you can hardly chew them. The food was just terrible for the second time in a year that we had a bad experience I will never go back. 10-12 years ago I remember as one of the finest restaurants downriver 😢

Google
We drove a hour to try this place out. It was my mother n laws Birthday she wanted good polish food. She is from Poland 🇵🇱 doesn't speak English. She said it was the best she has had anywhere in Michigan. It traditional scratch made. We loved it too. The service was the best we have had in years.

Google
Nice atmosphere, small family Polish establishment. Food quality itself was very good, where this restaurant fell flat was the service, right from seating ourselves it was very clear that the establishment was way understaffed to handle the table quantities we initially waited about ten minutes for our drink orders. When the waitress, an older woman I assume of Polish heritage clearly left us feeling rushed and seemed annoyed with my questions as it was not a common food culture we partake in. The value is there but I feel there is a lot of room to improve with this particular restuarant.

Yelp
My family loves coming to this restaurant and we were meeting them in town for a nice lunch. The service is just fantastic and we always enjoy our food. It is hot, delicious, and traditional Polish cuisine. The dill pickle soup is just the best I've ever had. Please try this place as you will not be disappointed. They are usually not very busy and you get seated and served right away. We will return again.

Yelp
It has been a long time since my last visit. Great service from Wanda and a fantastic meal in a relaxing Polish themed environment. I started with a fantastic bowl of czarnina, and then I had some fantastic Wiener Schnitzel - two pieces of pork along with some hot beets, sweet cabbage, and kluski with gravy. I also got two potato pancakes - wow, best I ever ate! Was too long since my last visit; I will need to rectify that.

Yelp
Used to go here all the time. Haven't been in a while. We got there, it was freezing (waitress snapped, "I'm not cold!"). The food was just ok but everything a la carte is very expensive...cucumber side salad $6?!? When we asked if we could have fried onions with the pierogis (onions are on the menu for an extra $1), we were told "no, we fry the pierogis". Ok, I guess no fried onions with fried pierogis then. Slightly rude, very cold, pricey. We will go to Sabina's. Too bad, this used to be my favorite!

Yelp
Great authentic Polish cuisine. Highly recommended. City chicken is very good and so is the hungry Pole platter

Jason K.

Yelp
Its amazing how one incredibly dismissive and disrespectful waitress can ruin an entire dining experience to the point that you vow to never go back. There are way too many restaurants in Wyandotte to treat your customers like this and think it's acceptable.

Marianne

Yelp
I went on Christmas Eve, thinking I would get a nice Polish meal. I was definitely wrong. I ordered a combo plate and asked if City chicken would be included, and he said yes. Unfortunately, it wasn't. The kielbasa wasn't grilled. It looked like he just took it out of the package and put it in my box. The stuff cabbage was laughable. After I was done rolling it out of the cabbage, it was a small tasteless piece of meat. They used tomato soup to top off the stuffed cabbage. The cucumber with sour cream had way to much sugar. This place was nothing like I expected. SABINA'S on Oakwood has it going on when it comes to Polish food. I was going to go there, but they were closed. Very disappointed! Oh, I wasn't the only one who thought the stuffed cabbage was tasteless and tasted like they put tomato soup over them. This coming from a family that had a larger order. First and last time I ever visit this place, again!

Yelp
The service was fast and friendly. Salads arrived first in short order. Soon after two perch dinners arrived. Very tasty and tender with good dumplings overflowing the plate. Six to eight pieces of perch deep fried to perfection. Large beer and wine choices as well. Polish themed food that's rib sticking good.

Yelp
I visited this place for the first time on 924 2024. I stood at the door sign waiting to be seated for about five minutes before I had to ask them did I have to wait to sit he's gonna say no you can sit anywhere The waitress finally comes to the table and asked me. Can I take your order? I said I've never been here before. Can you tell me if the pierogies are sweet? If they're pickled like me I don't know. I don't eat the pierogies I said can you find out for me because I've never been here before she said nobody here knows nobody eats the food here so I thought that was interesting so I don't know why I should eat the food there if they don't eat the food there so I told her that I would go somewhere else where somebody knew something about the food they're serving. It explains a lot about every time I drive by there there's only it always looks close. It's not closed. There's nobody in there because they treat people like this, they are gonna be the collapse of their business. I don't recommend that you go there unless you don't wanna be treated with dignity and respect.

Yelp
My grandpa used to love to eat here, it's traditional Polish food close to home! He loved the duck blood soup, I prefer the cabbage! The cucumber salad is so delicious, I eat so much! My favorites are the kluski, the potato pancakes, the pierogis, and the crepes! You can get something called the Polish Feast, it has a little bit of everything! It's low frills and super authentic. Everyone is super nice and makes you feel like family!

Yelp
This place is the real deal! Authentic polish food made from scratch, homemade! Absolutely delectable. My family and I tried stuffed cabbage, pierogis, kielbasa, potato pancakes. Everything was perfect. We really enjoyed the sides, especially the cucumber salad. The portions were humongous! Our waitress was friendly and efficient. We appreciated the delicious breadbasket as well. Absolute must to try this restaurant.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is authentic and delicious! They played contemporary Polish music which really set the vibe. Along with all of the Polish decor all over the place. The food was tasty, home cooking. Lots of choices and large portions for the price. Only one lady working the front of house and she was busy! Impressive family style atmosphere. Looking forward to being regulars!

Yelp
Great food and plenty of it! Service was awesome, the young lady that served us couldn't have been nicer! If you haven't tried this place, you seriously need to.

Yelp
This is a very good Polish restaurant. My very Southern mom married my very Polish dad, and she learned how to cook like an expert. Her stuffed cabbage was to die for; she even nailed angel wings cookies. One thing this restaurant does differently is the way they make the potato pancakes. My mom's were more like hash-brown patties. Polonus makes a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth version. For those of you who didn't grow up on Polish food (btw, we all cleared the house when my grandma made kiszka), this is a nice place to experience the variety. Service can sometimes be spotty; thus, my one star off.
google avatar

Joseph G.

Yelp
We tried the fried kielbasa and pirogies. Portions of meat was small but very tasty. We also tried the pickle soup which was very good. Homemade bread with fresh butter was also a plus. Batters fries and don't forget to ask for the sour cream!. Service by Katie was excellent. Extremely clean restaurant. Ample off street parking . Ok meal of soup, two dinners fir $34 and change.

Yelp
This place is known their pierogi and we probobly should have stuck to those. The pierogi and potato pancakes (polish latkas) were fantastic. The duck soup as my twelve year old said was "interesting but too ambitious ". The wienerschnitzel was too dry, the kielbasa and sauerkraut too bland. The cabbage rolls are too sweet... The place is very cute inside and has a lot of Polish memorabilia. If you like sweet wine, their cherry and honey wine is delicious. The staff is very friendly and accomodating but the place could use a good cleaning.

Yelp
Polonus is one of the last remaining authentic Polish restaurants in Metro Detroit. At a time there were scores of them especially in Hamtramck and around Warrendale on the west side. Not anymore. There's a few on the west side, a few in Oakland County. I'm not sure about east side. The pierogi are good but small. They feature a platter dish, stuffed cabbage and city chicken. Dill pickel soup is not bad. Nalesniki was very good (jelly filled blintz dessert). Opened early 80's, close to downtown Wyandotte. Very festive inside. Lots of windows. Safe neighborhood. Lots of parking. Credit and cash. Overall the experience was good. I would absolutely go back. This is my number 3 in the area, Polish village in Hamtramck is my #2, Polish Cultural center (Wawel) in Troy is #1.

Yelp
I've never had real polish food and my cousin dragged me here. She said it was the best that she's had even though she left Mi for the big Apple 20 years ago.

Yelp
Happiness be National Pierogi Day 2022 a six pack of Bacon Taters w Onion's and Sour Cream Wowed. I added a link of Smoked Polish Kielbasa chopped up to stuff pcs inside Pierogi. Yes it's a fun delicious treat you need to try. The grandkids took over just after Covid, grandson a very talented chef and his wife Katie a superstar runs the front of house. They added some exciting new items and special flavors of Pierogi. I crave several times per year the Polish Soup Czarnina gets its name from the Polish word for "black"--czarny--referring to the soup's dark color. It is typically made with duck blood, dried fruits, and vinegar which prevents the blood from clotting, giving it a sweet-sour flavor, much loved by Eastern Europeans. They add jumbo Raisins and thin Spatzle Noodles a whole bowl on the cheap very best ever eaten WOW. She had the Famous Hungry Pole Plate a little of everything with Polish Creamy Cucumber outstanding. Ms Katie has added fancy cocktails for the young crowd in Wyandotte. Truly excited to see what the next couple decades bring. Grandma and two son's constructed the place from ground up back in the 80's, so Happy keeping in the family. #polonusrestaurant @polonus_restaurant #polishfood #nationalpierogiday #polishcombo #czarnina #pierogi #downriverclassic #downriverfriendseat

Yelp
I like their food and all the people that work there! They are hard working! However, the older lady named Wanda. You never know if she is going to be nice Wanda or talk some negative crap to you and you may not want to go back. Their food is very good and they care about putting good food out. I just hope that nice Wanda is there.

Yelp
Excellent service and delicious food. I had the sampler platter and it was so yummy. We will be back!

Yelp
Always a good bet for Polish food. Pierogis and potato pancakes are always good. We will be back when that craving hits.

Yelp
Our waitress may have been the nicest woman to ever exist! Seriously the best service we've had in a long time, and then the food was DELISH on top of it. The food was very authentic, according to my born and raised Polish boyfriend! The only note is that their fried Pierogi seems to be deep fried instead of pan fried like he's used to, but they were still delicious and the pierogi themselves were very authentic. we ordered the stuffed cabbage, potato and cheese pierogi, kielbasa, and all the fixings and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. so tasty, felt like I was in Poland! The decor helped that feeling too. All in all, absolutely worth a stop, this place is amazing!

Yelp
Probably the best Polish food downriver, and in my top three ever. They actually have dill pickle soup every day, and it's delicious. My Grandpa, who has claimed to dislike Polish food all his life (he's Hungarian, my Gram was half Polish), actually loves it here. He even tried the dill pickle soup and loved it. So, when we do lunch dates, this is the spot! I happily drive from Livonia to meet him here Downriver. The Polish combo, though I can never eat the whole thing and never plan to, is the way to go every single time for me. The service is always so friendly and sweet here. My only complaint is they use Pepsi, not Coke. I'll let 'em slide on that lol.

Yelp
It was so nice to find this gem. It's real Polish food and the nicest owners. I can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Omg!!! What an amazing experience tonight. Our family used to frequent this restaurant. We randomly decided to try again tonight, and what a huge surprise!! The food was AMAZING and the service was even better. The owners and the food are better than ever!!! Kudos on the improvements. WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK, and will recommend to everyone !!!!!

Linda L.

Yelp
Awesome food! It tastes how my busha made it. Love the polish music playing and the decor. And the waitresses are so nice and happy! You can tell they really enjoy their jobs. This is my go to for polish cuisine when I don't have any left at home
google avatar

Laura Y.

Yelp
I haven't had it in years, but glad it came to mind tonight. Food was good, and service was great! Pickle soup was good, as was everything else. We even have some pineapple cake for later that smells great!

Mandy M.

Yelp
Amazing Authentic Polish food! Home-made and fresh, huge portions ! Service is top notch, so friendly and personable

Arby B.

Yelp
This is a great restaurant to visit with your family. The service was excellent and our server was so nice! She took very good care of our table! My husband loved his Bloody Mary. It was a meal in itself - Olive, celery, pierogi, pickle and a piece of sausage! The food is good too!

Frank W.

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant with authentic Polish food! Visited from Texas and wanted to take some czernina back home with me. I called every known Polish restaurant and none offered it on the day I was there or they didn't make it at all! Called Polonus and was told they make it daily! Drove two hours to get some and was so pleased with the kindness of the staff! A healthy portion was given to me as a sample before purchase and I also enjoyed their stuffed cabbage and Polish hamburger. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Liz T.

Yelp
It's almost like if you were really Polish and your Grandmother Pieczelewski opened a restaurant and you went in there and she gave you a kiss everytime. It's that good. I love the sweet cheese pierogis, the meat pierogis and potato pancakes. My husband raves over the city chicken. It's just plain homestyle cooking, served fast and friendly in a spotlessly clean place.
google avatar

Tracy H.

Yelp
I love Polonus!! The cabbage soup is amazing and always great. The dill pickle soup is the best I've ever tasted. Their stuffed cabbage meat and meatballs is perfect. All around great polish food!

Diane M.

Yelp
The service is outstanding but the food leaves a lot to be desired. Did enjoy the Dill Pickle soup but the Potato Pancakes, not so much.
google avatar

Hailey S.

Yelp
Love love love this place. Real authentic polish food and great service. My favorite is their cucumbers & cream.
google avatar

Jessica B.

Yelp
We went today for our first time. The cabbage soup was delicious! I liked everything, but my favorites would be the pierogis, stuffed cabbage, and the dumplings. The place felt like you went to a polish friends house and their grandma and mom just got done cooking. It's very very good!
google avatar

Darlene S.

Yelp
Great Polish cuisine. The only complaint I have ever had there is that periogi should be pan fried not deep fried. Otherwise, the food is great, almost as good as my Mom and Polish Aunts made.

Anna H.

Yelp
Fantastic Polish food! The portions are huge. We really enjoyed all of it, but favorite items were the kielbasa, pierogi, potato pancakes, and dill pickle soup. This is a friendly family business, and it's spotlessly clean. Can't say enough good things about this place!
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
This place is definitely worth a visit. It has all the best polish food and the atmosphere could not be better. Also very friendly people.
google avatar

Joseph H.

Yelp
The food and staff are great, but it seems like their hours change every other week and now they close at 6:30PM. Most people aren't even home from work yet and it just seems that the restaurant is teasing their own end by decreasing hours past when the average person can even get there.
google avatar

Allen L.

Yelp
This is good, simple polish food in a similarly nice simple "family diner". For me, not quite as good as the places in Hamtramck. Portions are large, everything is homemade. No frills, solid food.

Ellen B.

Yelp
I have been coming to this restaurant for 30 years. Always enjoyed the food. Until today. First time ever I ordered a carry out, kielbasa and pierogis. Got home and cut into the kielbasa and it was pink (raw) inside. The outside was pale in color, tho I asked for it all to be grilled. The pierogis were not grilled, maybe near a grill, but not grilled. Called and the owner was a tool. Telling me it couldn't be raw, because they buy them pre-cooked. Then proceeded to argue with about how kielbasa is ALWAYS pink inside. My first time there since COVID and my last time there. It was the arguing and hanging up on me that sealed it for me. Good riddance to garbage.

Yelp
Well we decided to come here when the Biddle hall All U Can eat Polish food wasn't all you can Eat" and when we got in this place was packed and I figured it would b because of everyone coming from The biddle Hall situation. We sat down and the lady kept feeding us drinks and bread until she could get our order which was very nice of her. When we got our food I couldn't eat it all because there was so much food I am leaving here about 14lbs heavier and for the price u can ask for better Polish food, this place is really good for food, price and staff. I would definitely come here again.

Hayley V.

Yelp
Food was ok but service was EXTREMELY slow. Food- ordered pierogies, potato pancakes, and city chicken. Overall everything was really sweet and oily. The city chicken was good though and tasted homemade. Service-Waited about 10 minutes for the waitress to take our order and hardly saw her except to bring another drink. When we were done eating had to wait a long time for our receipt and another woman took our plates long before we received it. Went to hand our payment to the lady at the register and as soon as we got there she ran away. We waited a minute and then just left cash on the register and walked out. If you are in a hurry might want to avoid this place.

Samantha P.

Yelp
Delish food. Excellent service! Tonight was our first time visiting this restaurant and we will definitely be back.

Dee J.

Yelp
Food was great. Service was fast and friendly. Place was very clean. Perfect all around
google avatar

David B.

Yelp
I was here on 4/23 at around 7pm. Place was busy and I was a little disappointed with the fact it took about 6 minutes to even ask if I wanted anything to drink then about another 5 minutes to deliver it. However, the service got much much better as the crowd died down a bit. The servers are very nice. The food as always was outstanding, and done right. This was a trip that started out not so good but ended up quite nicely. 4 stars only because of the slow start.....otherwise 5
google avatar

Yelp
Polonus is my favorite Polish Food place in Michigan and that's saying a lot as Hamtramck is only 20 minutes away and Three Brothers is only a Stafford's throw away. This place is really good. The atmosphere is very comfortable. Nothing too fancy or off the wall. It's like a regular dinner. It's cozy, comfy. There are booths that are very nice and cushy. The staff is very nice and on the ball. The place is clean. I love the food!!! It's a little more pricey than Hamtramck, believe it or not, but it is worth it! I love the Hungry Pole Plate which features a little bit of this and a little bit of that. The food here is really the star. I love their stuffed cabbage and perfectly fried pierogis. I definitely enjoy the little meatball you get with the hungry plate. It's like a pleasant surprise. Let me tell you about the Polonus Bonus. It is the Dill Pickle Soup. The Dill Pickle Soup at Polonus is the best in Michigan. It has the perfect taste and flavor. The aftertaste kind of resembles Thai Puck Tong soup (pickled cabbage soup). The soup is true bliss. This place is bliss!!! Go to Polonus ASAP!

Yelp
I stopped in here while I was waiting across the street at the chemical plant. I rather enjoy polish food and saw that they specialized in that cuisine. I ordered the perogies, fried, you can get them fried or boiled, and a polish sausage. The food came out in a timely fashion and was okay. I like my perogies sauteed, and wasn't really a fan of the fried ones. The sausage was good as well. The service was slow, but that was because there was only one server working and she had several tables a head of me. So i didn't mind the wait. Next time one of my work assignments takes me to this plant again, and if i have time, i will stop in again.
