Polurrian on the Lizard, Mullion, Cornwall, UK - Explore & Book

"Perched on top of a cliff facing the silvery seas and setting sun, this handsome Edwardian building has been around for over 100 years. And it has welcomed its fair share of notables, including Marconi who sent the world's first transatlantic radio signal from nearby Poldhu Cove. But it's since been reborn as a determinedly 21st-century boutique hotel with all the trimmings. Its 40 bedrooms and 6 villas that scatter the grounds come in a range of sizes - some sleep 2, some sleep 6. The best ones come with sea views, and that is what it's all about here. In the light-filled Vista Lounge, walls of glass reveal a 180-degree vista of the swooshing waves below. Come for a drink here at sunset - it faces west, so you're in for a spectacular show. Elsewhere there's an excellent spa where I had an outstanding neck and back massage. And there are good children's facilities too – pool table & table hockey, huge gardens, play area, two pools: a fantastic complement to the Lizard's sandy beaches (one of them 5 minutes down a stepped path) and subtropical gardens. This is a place to delight all: kids, parents, couples and friends after a slice of Cornish coastal bliss. Highs The location: a prime, west-facing spot on the lovely Lizard peninsula, near the pretty harbours of Mullion and Porthleven There's an Elemis spa and indoor pool to keep all ages amused if the weather turns Plus an outdoor pool and tennis for dry days, not to mention the sandy beach just below The villas are perfect for parents plus children, and good value too (book them early!) We loved the Vista lounge, with deep sofas, a wood stove and lazy chairs looking out over shimmering seas Lows Restaurant service can be very slow, and we found the breakfast buffet rather limited (though the cooked options were good) During school holidays, the hotel is full of families, so don't go then if you want a quiet, romantic break You need to pre-book your time in the pool, with sessions limited to 30 minutes each With 40 rooms and red-carpeted corridors, it feels more 'hotelly' than some of our smaller Cornish properties We gather there is construction on site in spring 2024 with no definite end date; we advise asking about this when booking" - Michael Cullen

Polurrian on the Lizard, Helston | Best places to stay in Cornwall

"A breathtaking cliff-top setting on the Lizard Peninsula isn’t the only thing this Edwardian hotel has going for it: the South West Coast Path weaves through the gardens, with another path leading to a private cove and beach. The 40 rooms include a 3-bed stand-alone suite incorporating a fitted kitchenette, and a private terrace with a hot tub, as well as magnificent ocean views looking out over Mount’s Bay and Mullion Island. Guests also have exclusive and complimentary use of an electric Mini Moke for at least one day during their stay. There are also six, three-bedroom self-catering villas on the road behind the hotel – each sleeps six and comes with a kitchen and terrace. It’s definitely a hotel for active types. There are facilities and activities for families, including a creche, games room, cinema and an Elemis spa. In summer, surfing, kayaking and coasteering are close by, and the hotel provides blankets, buckets, spades and crab lines for days out at the nearby, glorious beaches. " - Matthew Roach

A wonderful stay. Beautiful view of the sea from our room. The room was clean and bathroom was spacious. The garden is well looked after. Dog friendly. And polite staff. There were loads of board games and indoor entertainment options for those rainy days. Breakfast was tasty, only wish there were a few more options to choose from. We had a great time with our dog.

Despite living fairly local, we were desperate for few days away from the building site that is currently our home and the timing also coincided with a 10 year anniversary. |We opted to stay in the self catering bungalow ‘Shearwater’ for a 3 night break and what a treat it was. |The staff were warm, welcoming and friendly, from checking in, to grabbing a drink at the bar. |The accommodation was perfect, spotless even! A double bed, separate bunk beds, all the equipment you could possibly need for a self catering break and dog treats were also provided! |The weather could have been better, but watching the storms and huge waves from the comfort of the sofa and hot tub, well, it was just fantastic.|The beach is a short walk away and is definitely worth a wander down. It’s dramatic yet peaceful and a real hidden gem. |Breakfast was superb everyday, excellent quality. I also highly recommend having a Sunday roast in the vista and taking advantage of the live music. With the sea doing its thing as a back drop, music in the air and fantastic food, Polurrian is such a special place to visit and stay. |We’re already planning a villa with family and friends for next year. |Thanks for the reset Polurrian!

Our room with sea views was stunning. The evening meal delicious. The staff were friendly and went out of their way to make our stay truly memorable. The wellness spa was amazing. An hours treatmen included use of the pool for an hour, an afternoon tea and a glass of prosecco all for a very reasonable price. We had a fabulous stay. Totally recomended.

We’ve stayed before over the years but this time was the best so far. This was a group stay to celebrate a birthday and we had a great time. Staff were very welcoming and helpful, the atmosphere relaxed and festive and the food scrumptious. Loved the games room with the pool table and air hockey, great fun and the fantastic juke box in the bar area! Watching the waves crash on the rocks below was a real treat too, while sipping wine of course. Thanks to all the team for bringing this experience together so beautifully! We will be back ….

I organised a Christmas party for my staff do and the whole experience from start to finish was incredible. Georgia from events was very helpful with the planning, the food was incredible and all came out hot, our sea view room was amazing and the views were incredible, breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts I've ever had. The spa is the only thing i think could be improved and the plans for the new spa facilities look great so i'm very excited to visit again in the future!

We stayed here taking advantage of their Winter Offer (DBB for £149). Excellent value for money and the accommodation and food quality exceeded our expectations. We had the heated indoor pool & jacuzzi to ourselves. The staff were all so friendly. We would certainly stay again.

Booked last minute and what a fabulous find. We stayed 3 nights with our dog, the hotel itself is lovely, decor downstairs is beautiful and views stunning. Staff all very helpful and welcoming. The food was excellent too. If I did have a criticism to make it would be that the bed wasn’t very comfortable (room 106), and the spa/pool is very dated and sadly dirty when we used it today - my partner found a plaster floating on the pool surface and there was a lot of dirt in the bottom of the pool. Plans are afoot for major renovations including what looks to be a stunning new pool and spa experience to be added soon which looks amazing. Despite these concerns we wouldn’t hesitate to go back - it’s such a beautiful part of the world, the walks in the area are beautiful too.

Lovely stay to celebrate my birthday. The staff were great, as was the food, cocktails and the view. Nice room too. Well located for getting on the coastal path.

Yelp
Impressive looking hotel in great location overlooking Polurrian Cove on the Lizard. Owned (since Mar '08) by the same family that runs the 4 star Treglos Hotel at Constantine Bay near Padstow, this is a friendly and informal hotel. It would seem that the Barlow family are still investing money in the Polurrain - perhaps to gain that extra star. At the time we were there, they were carrying out work improving the leisure suite - the hotel has indoor and outdoor pools as well as a pool table, jacuzzi, beauty treatment rooms etc. The food is plentiful and of a good standard (important) and is served in an attractive restaurant overlooking Mounts Bay. The adjacent bar has comfortable soft furnished sofas and armchairs or if you wish you can watch the sun go down over the horizon. The rooms are well appointed and well furnished and staff friendly and helpful. The coastal path runs close by and Polurrian Cove is about 10 minutes walk away. The cove has an excellent sandy beach and as the nearest public parking is some distance away it doesn't get too over crowded. It is, however, a fair climb back up to the hotel from the beach at the end of the day.
