Best Restaurants for Lunch in Greenville, South Carolina | Eater Carolinas

"Ali Saifi opened Pomegranate on Main to share what he calls the spirit of Iranian hospitality with Greenville, his adopted hometown. The bistro on South Main Street, with its lovely, tiled courtyard, offers open-flame kabobs, wraps on freshly baked flatbread, and dips like the smoky mirza ghasemi, featuring roasted eggplant, tomato, and garlic. In the winter, fresenjan, a pomegranate and walnut stew, satisfies, and entree salads feel complete with diced vegetables, lentils, raisins, chopped mint, and a cumin lime dressing." - Stephanie Burnette

This cheerful Mediterranean-themed Persian restaurant was the perfect choice for lunch on a beautiful Monday afternoon visiting Greenville. The colorful dining room and bar looked like fun places to be but we chose the patio because the weather was so nice. The focal point of the patio is the waterfall wall. The three-walled patio is indoor/outdoor because the owners are in the process of installing glass doors along the fourth, sidewalk-side wall, which will allow them to open and close the doors as weather requires. But the roof retracts and fans and heaters allow them to adjust the patio to the weather. We sat in the warm sun but other tables were shaded. Our very friendly server brought us some very tasty dishes, starting with hummus for the table. Sarah and I shared the Soltani Barg, but we switched out the Barg skewer for a chicken skewer. The combination of the Koobideh skewer, chicken skewer, basmati cranberry rice, and grilled tomato was both generous and delicious. My brother and his wife enjoyed the salmon wrap with basmati cranberry rice and the Chenjeh (tenderloin) wrap with salad. The menu also offered an interesting selection of starters and stews, and other other wraps and kabobs. Recommended when Greenvilling. YouTube’s Chef’s Apprentice

Delicious food, great service, nice place. The food was just delicious, the seasoning was on point, and the flavors were an absolute experience. The service is good. The staff continuously checked if everything was fine. The place is calm and the furniture helps to enjoy the food.

This is the second time I’ve been here. I loved the Saffron Chicken Kabob! The staff couldn’t be more attentive. Atmosphere was fantastic out on the patio, they had a live acoustic musician. Doesn’t get better than this!

From the moment we sat down, our server Mason made the meal exceptional. He was warm, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. Honestly, we’d come back just for him…his service was that good. We started with the Duo Starter featuring the Borani Spinach and Shirazi Salad…so fresh and flavorful. The Beef Kabob was perfectly grilled and seasoned, and the Chenjeh Wrap was packed with deliciously tender meat and bold spices. Mason checked in at just the right times, made us feel genuinely welcome, and had great energy without being overbearing. You can tell he takes pride in what he does. This place is a gem and Mason is a star! Will definitely be back.

Google
The restaurant is in the middle of downtown and there is plenty of paid parking around it. The restaurant is big and welcoming, it is nicely decorated. The service was really good, the servers were really helpful and nice. The drinks were good, plenty of wine and beer choices. The food was lovely, the dishes were cooked really well. The desert could be improved, the sauce around the dessert was a bit too tangy, but otherwise it was good. Overall, would recommend coming for a nice dinner.

Perfect place for a delicious bite and great ambiance My boyfriend and I stopped in here on our birthday trip since it got such great reviews on Trip Advisor, and I love Persian food. First, their customer service is fantastic! Even though we arrived 10 minutes before they closed for lunch, they still sat us and were extremely friendly and gracious! We sat outside on the courtyard, and it was a very nice calm oasis away from the busy street just outside. One of the things I really appreciated was each item on the menu came with a wine recommendation. My boyfriend got the Persian mule and OMG I am not normally a mixed drink person but that was refreshing, delicious and not too sweet tasting. Definitely get the hummus to start and use all the veggies in their veggie tray with it. We weren’t that hungry so shared the chicken kabob plate and everything from the roasted tomatoes to the saffron rice with cranberries was delicious and I kind of wish I had ordered the whole plate for myself since the chicken was so tender and well seasoned without being overly salty. I would definitely recommend this place whether you’re enjoying a casual lunch, looking for a nice dinner, or even need something delicious and healthy to go.

We had a reservation for a party of 2 at 5:30 pm on Friday, 3/21/25. Ben was our waiter and he was wonderful! We were celebrating a birthday and we appreciated how Ben gave us the dessert menu and told us to pick one on the house. Sadly, they didn’t have 1001 Nights Chocolate Cake, which we for sure would’ve gotten. But we still were grateful for the gesture! Here’s what we got: - Duo ($9): Hummus and Kashk Bademjan - The hummus was average. The kashk bademjan was very good! The “bread” it came with just didn’t taste or feel very fresh. It wasn’t warm. It left something to be desired for sure. - Saffron Chicken Kabob ($22): Just didn’t have much flavor. The basmati cranberry rice was good though! - Barg Kabob ($26): This was the better of the two entrees. We subbed the original rice for the rice with lentils and golden raisins, which was the move! - Coconut Custard Pie (normally $7, but free because we were celebrating a birthday): Good! Great service. Super reasonably priced food. We just weren’t blown away by the food. If you’re from Atlanta and you’ve had Rumi’s or Delbar, Pomegranate on Main doesn’t live up to either of those restaurants.

Google
My friend picked this restaurant and he couldn’t have picked a better place. Everything was delicious. My boyfriend and I are trying to be healthy so we split our plate and starter and they separated it for us which was thoughtful. The waiter (Dillion) was knowledgeable about the menu and was able to answer allergy questions. He created a seasonal drink called the nutcracker and my boyfriend said it was delicious.

Yelp
Why? Why have I not gone here sooner! ?!?! This is a pleasant calm vibe.. I did not see any televisions, music was pleasant and people were conversing with one another! We sat ...in the pseudo outside setting/ covered area and this is pleasantly cool with ceiling fans. The only location of the restaurant which seemed tight and crowded was immediately to the left of the hostess stand. My suggestion is to try and avoid this area. It is right against the glass. So drinks ....had the pomegranate martini..delicious with fresh light cocktail.. also try the Angel's Envy bourbon with saffron infused ice cube and and orange slice. Both delicious and amazing. We tried 3 of the appetizers, --hummus--plenty of garlic!, cucumbers and tahini yogurt and am eggplant dish...all were fantastic. T h is comes with either bread or veggies to dip. Our entrees were grilled chicken and tomato dish..delicious and the Halibut and shrimp. All very tasty. Not overly spicy but very pleasant. And we took the coconut pie dessert home... rich but light and clean. Our waitress Hanna was kind , patient, and made good suggestions We will totally come back.

Yelp
Solid and charming Persian restaurant in a great location on the Main Street in Greenville. The servers are incredible responsive and they ensure you'll have a great dining experience. The menu is pretty basic but they pretty much do everything well... kabobs, dips, salads, lamb. The shrimp kabobs and stews are highlights. We really enjoyed our meal here.

Yelp
Husband and I have always wanted to try this place...it was previously closed during the afternoon so we couldn't previously but now their hours have changed and theyre open all day. We ordered to go since we had our dog with us. Got the chicken kabobs and the salmon. Inside was tastefully decorated and they had an outside courtyard that I would have enjoyed dining in on this beautiful but cool day. Salmon was tender and flaky, flavorful. Really enjoyed it...so did doggie. Came with 2 pieces which was worth the price tag. The rice was seasoned with herbs and had lime beans. The chicken kabob pieces were a good size but I thought it was a little bland and dry. The rice that came with the chicken was a lot better than that which came with the salmon though...it had cranberries and turmeric or saffron flavoring, which provided pops of flavor. Would definitely ask next time if can pair the cranberry rice with the salmon next time! Also came with pita and butter that you can season with spices they give you...and a cube of cheese (paneer?). Overall I would try again...decently priced.

Yelp
Came into town to visit friends and they brought us here. What a win! The food was delicious and fresh and the service was better. It was not overly crowded but had a solid amount of tables full. It was not loud but had a nice vibe. The food was cooked perfectly and seasoned well. Our drinks were fantastic!

Yelp
Came here for lunch and thought it was totally good but a wee bit overhyped. I ordered a lunch salad with a side chicken kebab. It is a busy place, even for lunch, so I recommend making a reservation.

Yelp
Popped in for a Friday night dinner with another couple. Started with some appetizers and a beer. Hummus was above average but the break it came with was very sub par. Either old and just not good quality. Lack of draft beer was sad, but not the end of the world. Grabbed the salmon main. Salmon was perfectly cooked and tasty. The accompanying rice was good, not great. Could have been more flavorful. Waitress was pleasant.

Yelp
Great patio, great service, pomegranate martini was refreshing and the chicken kebab meal was delicious. What was the cherry on top?! Persian breakfast. I'll dream about it until the next time we go! Gave me a little feel of Europe.

Yelp
Fabulous dinner and drinks at Pomegranate on Main. Morgan was a top notch server-- giving us all the information we needed to order the perfect items and serving things promptly. Our food was really delicious and seasoned so perfectly. Pomegranate on Main has become one of our favorite restaurants to visit when we are in Greenville.

Yelp
Walked by this place in the West End several times over and never made our way in. Decided to make reservations with some friends & i'm so glad we did. There are so many things to love about this place. The atmosphere is laid back & the wait staff is extremely knowledgeable to help out if you are unfamiliar with the cuisine (like I was). She walked us through the menu giving in depth explanations to the different items listed on their menu which was super helpful to a first timer. The food was very very delicious. We started with a Persian Breakfast & Hummus. The Persian Breakfast consisted of cheeses, radish & mint leaves - surprisingly refreshing to start the meal. The Mirza Ghasemi & Black Bean Hummus' were also delicious alongside the warm flatbread provided for dipping. Our entrees were the Chicken Torsh Kebab which was marinated to perfection & very tender. This dish was served with cranberry rice (this dish alone would make me return). My better half ordered the Grilled Marinated Lamb Medallions. These were also deeply marinated which made the meat very tender & delicious. This is a great little spot for a double date night to try out some new cuisine or get a great meal if you're already familiar with it! Would recommend to anyone visiting Greenville.

Yelp
It was an experience to say the least. The food was fine and server was fine to start with. The issues began with the bill, The menu states for each appetizer ordered bread will be provided. We ordered the Trio of appetizers and first received 2 baskets of pita. The server asked if we wanted more and we said sure, then brought two more. However on the bill I was charged for 2 extra pita baskets when I didn't even order the 4th and the 3rd should have been included. However most importantly WARNING!! If you split the meal at your own table NOT from the kitchen you are charged 6$ per person who didn't order an entree. They proceeded to argue that you could have asked for extra rice and grilled tomato, but this was not shown anywhere. After arguing with the GM she agreed to remove it for one time however would not recommend this establishment. This is on top of high overpriced food!!

Yelp
During our visit, we came across Pomegranate in our research and were pleasantly surprised by a growing small town providing an abundance of diverse palettes. Jordan, at the bar, was great to talk to and provided us with local insight. We decided on a bottle of wine and were brought a complimentary plate of crudites. Great way to prepare for our experience, without filling up. Kashk Bademjan was an eclectic choice, beyond hummus and salad, offering a blend of sauteed eggplant and onion, and topped with Persian cream of whey, crispy fried onion and mint. When having a Mediterranean dish, you have to get the lb, right? The lamb, immersed in a rosemary marinade, charbroiled and served with a grilled tomato and basmati rice mixed with lentils and golden raisins. Taste, check! Texture, check!

Yelp
This is a great place for business or fun meal. I particularly love the homemade hummus with pita breads and fresh veggies. I got the salmon over salad which was super fresh and delicious. I had it with the pomegranate dressing of course - yum! My business colleague had the special beef soup which was chunky and good. The Restaurant is always buzzing with locals and Greenville visitors. Suggest a reservation so you don't have to wait!

Yelp
Pomegranate is one of the more unique dining experiences in GVL, and it definitely one of the top tier options in the city. Situated in a great spot on Main St, you can visit Falls Park either before dinner or after. The menu offers a wide range of Persian dishes, which are more than adequately portioned, I might add. I'm a big fan of the kabobs, but there are many options, including salads & lamb dishes. They have a solid drink menu, and the wines on their list are a step above a lot of other places. And lastly, if you don't feel like getting all dressed up, you can order online & takeout is a breeze! If you're looking for something different & delicious, you can't go wrong with Pomegranate!

Yelp
Service was great! We started with the grilled chicken wings. The flavor was so good. We had the lamb medallions, the beef and shrimp kebabs! Everything was great! Atmosphere was also wonderful! For dessert was a coconut custard pie and chocolate pie.

Yelp
This was my first time trying persian food and it was DELICIOUS! I brought my parents here and they loved it as well. I had a shrimp dish and it did not disappoint, and the Pomegranate Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream was one of the best things to ever touch my mouth
google avatar

Yelp
Just all around good food. The cranberry rice is addicting! Nice variety of unique dishes. I've never been disappointed with any of my selections. This is our "go to" dining spot whenever we're attending one of our wonderful street festivals in downtown Greenville.
google avatar

Yelp
We ordered salmon and it came with Lima bean rice, which we did not like, the waiter brought us some cranberry rice that was great! The salmon was wonderful too. They had a sumac seasoning that was interesting. It is used instead of salt and pepper. We are at the bar so we would not have to wait. It was a great dinner experience.

Yelp
The food was out of this world food! My group of four has been raving about this meal for days!!!! The service was also fantastic. They brought us waters right when we sat down and our drinks stayed filled and our empty plates were quickly cleared the entire time. We all got the house salad as a side and it was terrific. The flavor of citrus and zest was mouth watering. The cranberry rice is to die for!!! I got the chicken tolsha (i think) and OMG i can not stop thinking about it! Everyone in my party LOVED their dishes. We all shared two appetizers. One was an eggplant dip and the other a cucumber cream dip. The eggplant dip was to die for and I need the recipe ASAP! We all shared the house ice cream as a dessert and it was so good and the perfect treat to end the meal on. I can not wait to go back to try a cocktail next time as I have high hopes since the food was so good.

Yelp
Dylan McMillan was great! The food amazing. Coming from California the prices were just unbeatable for us. Everything we ordered was delicious and portions were great. Dylan provided us with amazing service, and we will definitely tell all of our flight attendant friends to come back to this place.
google avatar

Rose S.

Yelp
The one star is for the rice and hummus, which were decent. The Chicken Torsh Kabob, which Yelpers said was marinated and tender turned out to be anything but..... The chicken kabob was non-marinated, non-sauced, no herbs pieces of dry, overcooked chicken. Needless to say, hubby and I would not order from this over-hyped restaurant again.
google avatar

Malory R.

Yelp
So good!! The hummus was so delicious. The chicken kabob was so good too. The food just tastes fresh. Will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Well, this is a restaurant we like. We now live an hour from GVL and came in tonight for dinner (party of 2). It's a Thursday and a large restaurant so we didn't make a reservation. We arrived at 8:10pm and the restaurant was bustling (maybe 70% full). The host greeted us and looked at his iPad then said, "well I'm sorry our kitchen is closing so I can't seat you". Yelp says open till 9:30pm. ?????
google avatar

Courtney H.

Yelp
Such a surprise. We walked into this restaurant after having too long of a wait at another. I just go on yelp and quickly said the closest restaurant to us that had good reviews. I had not idea what type of food. To my surprise, it was Persian/Iranian which I never have had so it took me right out of my comfort zone. However, when I got the food it was SO GOOD. Chicken was cooked perfect. You get a ton of rice, and the charring is great. Make sure to put the special seasoning on the table in your food. You get bread and a salad to put on your bread before the food. That wasn't my thing but the people I ate with liked it. The atmosphere was gentle and the staff was all nice. Definitely worth going !
google avatar

Sue W.

Yelp
This was such a nice place! The staff was supper friendly and nice. I was dog sitting and Greenville was the half way mark for me to return my furr niece. We sat and had cocktails out side and enjoyed great cocktails Mediterranean food. I was able to keep it healthy. No pics but I was great!

Yelp
I have to be honest I was very apprehensive initially when my friend recommended this place for lunch but I was truly pleasantly surprised that my favorite thing ended up being the cranberry basmati rice and the mint plum spritz

Yelp
We were here for the first time and it didn't disappoint!! The food was amazing, fresh and tasty!! The place was clean and beautiful!! Service was absolutely fantastic!! Definitely our new favorite spot!!

Yelp
Always a delight either for dinner or lunch. Food is amazing. The choices are varied and the tastes unexpected yet there is something for even those with limited cuisine needs. Especially lovely for al fresco dining in spring/summer/ and fall. Not to be missed.

Brad B.

Yelp
Bottom line: this was an exceptional experience, both during and after our meal. My college-age daughter and I came on a busy Saturday night. We sat at the bar and enjoyed a fabulous dinner. The eggplant dishes were especially tasty. And the bartender was friendly, attentive, and well informed about all the food. The next day, I realized that I forgot my credit card, and reached out to inquire about it. The Pomegranate team communicated well and even mailed the credit card to me. Really above and beyond what I expected. Great dinner. And great service behind the scenes, too.

James D.

Yelp
Food, staff, ambiance...wonderful. So not SC cuisine. We return regularly Yelp demands more characters.

Yelp
It's wonderful to find a place that has fine service, fresh and tasty food with a nice ambiance. Pomegranate on Main is a must go, especially if you enjoy Iranian & Persian food. The rice with cranberries is divine. The Salmon is cooked to perfection. The dips are tasty & fun to share. Looking forward to my next visit to Greenville!

Yelp
One of the best restaurants in downtown Greenville. Very unique. Persian food. Great service. Wonderful hosts.

Alberta R.

Yelp
We were at the POM to celebrate the holidays/birthday with friends. The server took care of us. No complaints there. Food and drinks were delivered to our table in a timely manner. However, the food and drinks were another thing. The hummus and starters were good. Drinks were good just a bit over priced but that is typical of downtown. Concerning the main dish - disappointing. If you read Rose S (which was a month ago) I agree with her review. I had the same dish. The chicken was tough - the rice and chicken were dry. Disappointing.

Gina S.

Yelp
Beautiful atmosphere and delicious food. I always feel well taken care of by the staff and each dish I try is incredible!

Yelp
Winter with my wife and two friends on Saturday night. My shish kebab was very good and my wife's shrimp kebab was also very good. Not great but very good. We enjoyed the restaurant very much. The service was excellent. The ambience was nice.
google avatar

Yelp
Fantastic! Middle eastern food around here is hard to come by. Beautiful ambiance, koobideh kabob, with rice and shirazi salad hit the mark. Give it a try if you enjoy Persian food.
google avatar

Victoria G.

Yelp
Delicious experience that I can't suggest enough. We came early enough and we didn't have reservations, but we're lucky to be seated. Book way in advance so you guarantee a spot. All of the food we tried was delicious!! Ask questions bc the servers are knowledgeable and helpful. There was not a kids menu but mine ate from our plates and there was more than enough food. Seating outside or inside.
google avatar

Sarah B.

Yelp
Very delicious first time experience. It wasn't too crowded however I had to sit at the bar due to seating which was fine. The guys behind the bar were super attentive. We started off with 3 starters and then I got the tour of Persia. The bartender said he would just add our starters with the tour however after leaving I realized he overcharged me by 9$ and didn't add the starters but had them on there twice. Though I never went back to say something, it was just $9. The kabobs were delicious. Literally every bite was amazing. The veggies were amazing. Even the chicken wings were delicious with their unique flavor. My favorite was the chicken it was just perfectly cooked. The rice portion was crazy but with the extras I couldn't eat much rice. I would absolutely go back dining at a table or bar. I wouldn't say it's kid friendly however I did see kids there. There isn't a huge menu but I think any child would still enjoy the rice and chicken. This was a nice life pause for me. Just good food, great atmosphere and good vibes
google avatar

Christopher D.

Yelp
Awesome food. I highly recommend it. There were lots of flavors and spices we don't typically come across as Americans. It was fun to push my palette a little bit and I was rewarded for doing so. Service was great as well!
google avatar

Lola F.

Yelp
I was passing by while traveling through SC and got excited when I found a Persian restaurant. This is by no means authentic Persian food...it's close enough I guess. I had the Fesenjan and they didn't use pomegranate molasses which is a main ingredient in the dish so every time I ate, it kept throwing me off. Another thing was the tea it was brewing too long and very dark and bitter but they did serve sugar cubes! The service and ambiance are fine. It's in a good location right in downtown Greenville. I just went in there thinking it was authentic and was a tad bit disappointed.
google avatar

Mark W.

Yelp
Food was ok, ambiance not great, service very poor. Might have just been our waitress. Probably have better staff. My wife thought it was pretty good apart from the service. She had the scollop special. I don't think I would go back though. Kind of pricey for the experience we had. Don't mind paying extra as long as it's a pleasant experience. In fact I would pay double for a great experience

Yelp
We stopped into Pomegranate on Main on a day trip to Greenville. It was a lovely day and we were seated on their covered patio which has great ambiance including a tiled water wall feature. We were happy to see many vegan options on the lunch menu. We decided for our meal to choose four starters which turned out to be more than enough food for the two of us. The starters were each delicious- we tried 1) red pepper hummus (by the way they featured five hummus's that day), 2) Borani Spinach, 3) Mirza Ghasemi -smoky roasted eggplant and tomatoes, and 4) Kashk Bademjam- sautéed eggplant and onion topped with crispy onion and herbs- our favorite of the four. This selection came with a basket of warm pita for each of us and a side plate called Persian breakfast- fresh mint leaves, radish, feta and butter which you can spread on the pita along with the dips. On the table was a small dish of dried sumac to sprinkle on the dishes. I asked for a side of black marinated olives which really went well with our selection. We savored every bite and were so happy we had found this gem on our day trip to Greenville.

Yelp
Food was clean, refreshing and so delicious ! Service was great ! Great experience trying new food ! We will be back !

Yelp
10/5 STARS!! UNREAL. Best food in Greenville. By far. Chicken Torsh Kabob is what I got. My wife got the Saffron Chicken Kabob we split them up to both have each and I'm not kidding when I emphasize this....I'VE NEVER HAD FOOD THIS GOOD. Never tasted anything like it! And the "Persian Breakfast" that they bring out in the beginning was the most incredible combination! For apps, we got the red pepper hummus and pesto hummus with the fresh out of the oven pita bread and it was to die for! Jalen Washington was our waiter and I can't imagine the service gets much better! So helpful! Incredible service!
google avatar

Hannah D.

Yelp
A staple Greenville restaurant that it took me too long to try - ordering was slightly overwhelming but the waitress helped so much! The pomegranate martini was a little strong for me but for someone who likes martinis - probably amazing! Tried a trio of dips - each amazing. Ordered a combo so I could try two meats and was blown away.

Reggie L.

Yelp
Not sure where to even begin... Went for a walk around downtown Greenville on a Wednesday and stumbled upon Pom. It looked crowded from the outside but I was able to grab a seat at the mostly empty bar. Promptly greeted by a super friendly bartender and was notified that it was 1/2 off bottle of wine. So much for a quick bite to eat. I ordered a bottle of wine and sunk in to explore the menu. Ordered the combo of lamb and Koobideh kabob and a small Shirazi salad. From start to finish, the food was exceptional. Service was great. I never felt rushed and was able to enjoy a leisurely and somewhat indulgent dinner. Well done

Ashlyn K.

Yelp
Always amazing. Love the barg & torsch (not offered as a combo on the menu - but they'll always do it!) You HAVE to get the large hummus appetizer
