The Pope Receives a Chicago-Style Pizza | Eater Chicago

"One of Chicago’s oldest restaurants is expanding to Elmwood Park, with a new outpost opening in September that will bring the Taylor Street institution’s longtime favorites — sandwiches, strudels, pastas, and pizzas — to the suburbs. Family-owned since 1909 and once a multi-location operation before scaling back to its flagship, it’s taking over a space that previously housed a convenience store and, before that, a Jewel, and will also serve food at the Taste of Elmwood Park from August 7 to 10." - Jeffy Mai

Pompei is truly one of the best new additions to the community. From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the quality of the building itself. Everything feels brand new, thoughtfully designed, and built with comfort in mind. It is a place where you immediately feel welcome and relaxed On this visit, I ordered the meatball sandwich, and it exceeded every expectation. The meatballs were large, perfectly seasoned, and smothered in just the right amount of marinara sauce. The bread they use deserves special mention because it held up beautifully and added the perfect texture to the sandwich. Hearty, flavorful, and filling, this was the definition of comfort food done right We also ordered the cheese pizza, and I can say without hesitation that it is the best in the entire community. The cheese was clearly high quality, rich, and flavorful, while the crust was simply amazing. Light, crisp, and perfectly baked, it is rare to find a pizza that gets both the toppings and the crust just right, but Pompei achieved it For dessert, we tried the Taylor Street cheesecake, which was absolutely phenomenal. Creamy, rich, and perfectly balanced, it was the kind of dessert that makes you stop mid-bite just to appreciate it. A perfect ending to an already stellar meal Beyond the food, what really stood out to me was the service and atmosphere. The staff was extremely friendly, attentive, and professional. They are clearly well staffed, which makes the experience smooth and enjoyable. Combine that with the warm, high quality environment, and it is clear Pompei is raising the standard for dining in this area One of the most surprising parts of the visit was how reasonably priced everything was. The food quality is top tier, yet the prices are very affordable, which makes this not just a great place for special occasions but also a regular go to spot. Once word spreads in the community, I can see Pompei quickly becoming the staple destination for everyone Overall, Pompei delivers on every level. The food is delicious, the portions are generous, the service is outstanding, and the setting is beautiful, all at an affordable price point. If I could rate it higher than five stars, I absolutely would. On my next visit, I look forward to trying some of the other amazing dishes I saw being served This is without a doubt the new go to restaurant in town and one I will return to often

Taylor Street legend in Elmwood Park! So much to choose from. Authentic pizza, pasta, salads, and soups. Sandwiches and strudels. Beer, wine, and espresso. Tiramsu and biscotti. Order at the counter and get served at the table. Friendly and helpful service. Restaurant is bright, open, and super clean. Also have takeout and delivery options.

Had the meal served buffet style for a meeting there. The tomato bread was delicious, just like from an old Italian bakery down on Grand Avenue. Eggplant lasagna was outstanding. Not a big fan of the gnocchi in vodka sauce, but maybe it was just me. Nice meeting room space. Staff went out of their way to accommodate. Highly recommend

I don’t usually take the time to write reviews, but I really wanted to for this one, because too often people only write when they’ve had a bad experience. This new neighborhood location Pompeii truly deserves recognition. From the moment you walk in, you can feel the warmth and authenticity. The food is INCREDIBLE, true Italian flavors, made with care and quality you can taste. The service is just as impressive, friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. It’s clear that the owners and staff take pride in what they do, and it shows in every plate and every interaction. Our community has been waiting for something like this, and I’m so happy they chose to open here. Wishing the whole team continued success, we love having you in the neighborhood!

Food was luke warm and it just tastes like reheated leftovers, there was cross contamination in my salad ( looked like some kind of lunch meat chopped up), placing an order is chaotic... a woman at the register that took my order kept asking other employees "where is the cashier?" and it takes a really long time to get food delivered to table. We have enjoyed fantastic meals at the other location... Hopefully this elmwood park location can get it together and serve better, hotter food without anything that shouldn't be in it, in a more efficient way.

I ordered the penne vodka sauce and I ate it all, then I had some of my sisters fettuccine Alfredo and it was good but had a bit of a strange after taste but I would get both a 2nd time. Good cheese cake. Nice prices service is good

Overall, a bit of a disappointment. The service has some work to do, I'm hoping it improves over time and that it's just inexperience in juat opening. The true disappointment is in the food. It is wildly overpriced for what it is. The pastas don't look great and lake flavor. The portion sizes compared to cost are small for not tasting great. The outdoor space is nice, but I doubt I will be coming back.
