If I had to describe gluten-free heaven, it would look a lot like Pomus. A place where people with coeliac disease can genuinely relax and enjoy incredible food in total safety: 99% of the menu is gluten-free, there’s an open kitchen with separate fryers, and chefs who are truly knowledgeable about managing gluten intolerance.
On the first evening, as an aperitivo, I tried their homemade focaccia served with two different types of butter. As an Italian, it was a wonderful surprise to find such excellent focaccia on the Kent coast! It was soft, flavourful and beautifully airy.
The next day at lunch, I had the popcorn chicken with mango and gochujang; absolutely delicious again: perfectly crispy with just the right sweet-and-sour balance. I could have eaten loads of it. I then shared a charcuterie board with cured meats (mortadella and wild fennel salami) and two different cheeses. Everything was top quality, served with homemade “crackers”: very thin, extra crunchy and herb-flavoured. Completely addictive, as the chestnut bavarois with salted caramel and coffee crumble.
I’d also like to compliment them on their wine and cocktail selection, the efficient, friendly and genuinely supportive staff, and the incredible attention to detail throughout the entire venue.
A place I recommend 100%. A rare and precious gem in the small treasure chest that is Margate, a town I absolutely fell in love with.
