"The Oldest Bridge Across the Seine Stand on the the quais beneath the Pont Neuf bridge—the city's oldest crossing of the Seine—and look up. Staring down at you are mascarons , stone faces that resemble gargoyles, but without bodies. No two of these grotesque visages are the same. Enjoy their individuality as you ponder the decades it took to build this stone structure: begun in 1578 by Henri III and inaugurated by Henri IV in 1607. From 1588 to 1599, construction was interrupted by the French Wars of Religion, which lasted 36 years. Then head up the stairs to walk across its two spans, which connect the Ile de la Cité to the Right and Left banks. Great views of the Louvre can be had from the longer, seven-arch span that stretches to the Right Bank."

Pont Neuf - Romantic ❤️ Bridge the oldest bridge in Paris, holds a special charm that goes beyond history. I visited this place with my wife to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary, and walking here together created a memory I’ll never forget. The atmosphere along the Seine was simply magical—the flowing river, the gentle lights reflecting on the water, and the countless love locks attached to the bridge made me reflect on our own journey together. Looking at those locks, I realized how many experiences we’ve shared over the past 25 years. If you're visiting Paris with your partner, I highly recommend walking across Pont Neuf. It’s the perfect place to pause, reminisce, and reconnect with beautiful memories from the past.

The Pont Neuf has great features: elegant arches, Henri IV on horseback, wide sidewalks and circular bastions protruding over the river. The best are the masks carved in stone on the side of the bridge. They are hidden from view up top, you've got to go below the bridge deck to see them.

100000/10 The most romantic and quintessentially Parisian spot in the city. A must-visit at sunset—the view is unforgettable. At night, explore the dark mysterious tour. You can book online such tours. Enjoy the stunning view of the Eiffel Tower, and don’t miss the iconic green bookstalls along the riverbanks—perfect for finding vintage Parisian posters and books.

Amazing location with so much to explore, discover and of course eat and drink. The restaurant 'triangle' at Point Neuf has so many options in a shady setting whilst locals play bocce

What a night! I just experienced my very first Fête de la Musique right here in Paris, and I couldn’t have asked for a better spot than Pont Neuf. The energy was absolutely electric—live music echoing through the streets, people dancing without a care in the world, and every corner buzzing with rhythm, culture, and connection. From Crazyy bands and street performers to spontaneous crowd sing-alongs, the atmosphere was pure magic. It's amazing how music can unite complete strangers into one big family for the night. 🌍❤️ Paris never sleeps on culture—and on June 21st, it sings. Can't wait to do it all again next year!

Nice view, if you want to walk along Seine river but not sure how to get there, it is easy to put Pont Neuf as a destination and you will be off a good start.

This is my favorite spot in Paris. You can picnic in the little park or picnic under the willow tree along the river.

The Seine River in Paris indeed has its own charm. The beautiful European-style architecture framing both sides of the river enhances its allure. Occasionally, you will find boats crossing the river as well. You can enjoy the beauty of this river from many bridges in the surrounding area, and this bridge is one of the best spots to capture its beauty.

Yelp
The Pont Neuf (French translation): "New Bridge") is the oldest standing bridge across the river Seine in Paris, France. It stands by the western (downstream) point of the island in the middle of the river that was, between 250 and 225 BC, the birthplace of Paris. I had to get as close as I could to take my photo. I was at the mercy of my daughter. She planned the daily activities as it was her first visit to Paris. I let her dictate as I have been to Paris before. She wasn't interested in the river and bridge like I was. I'm a fan of rivers and bridges. I hope to return for a closer view. For now I hope you appreciate this beautiful bridge. It's a historic wonder to me. It's an arch bridge made of stone. When you visit Paris go see it up close and take lots of photos!

Yelp
The Pont Neuf, or New Bridge, is the oldest bridge across the Seine. It was new for its time. It was built in the late 1500s and finished in 1607. It has 12 arches, following the Roman style. On the sides of the bridge, you see mascarons, or faces with masks. There are almost 400 different faces of mythological characters. These are copies. The originals were made my Pilon in the 1500s. They're in museums now. The closest metro is called Pont Neuf. Please visit at night when it's so beautiful with the lights and the reflection in the river.

Yelp
Another must see in Paris! King Henry the 4 finished this bridge in 1606 after decades of construction and delays. His vision was that it would act as an instrument to modernize Paris and help put an end to the constant wars in the region. It was a success and today stands as a monument to what city planning can accomplish.

Yelp
A classic bridge that used to have locks on it put on by tourists, but they were so heavy they had to remove them all. Regardless, this is quite the bridge with all the different statue heads facing you, quite interesting.

Yelp
The Pont Neuf is the oldest standing bridge across the Seine River, it offers some get views of the river on both sides of the bridge, take a minute and look around! But the view wasn't the reason why I stopped by; it was for the love locks! Towards the southern end of the bridge around the bronze equestrian statue of King Henry iV are hundreds of love locks. In 2015 the love locks were cut down from Pont des Art Bridge, Paris isn't a fan of the locks, and I get it and see why they are upset, but the romantic in me needed to see the locks! It just seems perfect; Paris is the city of Love and these locks represent many lovers who came and put their love locks here. To be surrounded by love, that can't be so wrong? Don't know how long they will be up, so if in the area, go give it a look!

Yelp
Views form this point are astounding, especially at the "magic hour", right before sunset. At dusk, you can catch a good pic of the Eiffel Tower lit up against a nice backdropped sky.

Yelp
Uber charming spot from which to view Paris! I was quite sweaty walking from the Left Bank, across to Notre Dame, and then across Ile de la Cité to this "New bridge". And luckily, I wasn't pick pocketed either! I purposely made it a point to walk across the Seine along this bridge, because it is actually Paris' OLDEST bridge. 1607 year...old enough for ya? Actually commissioned under Henri III and Catherine de Médicis in 1578, it took practically 30 years to complete! Another reason: Victor Hugo ( whose house I visited) rhapsodized over this specific bridge. With each step I tread, I wondered how many countless footsteps have I now walked over? Heady thought.

Yelp
Ironically, Le Pont Neuf (French: New Bridge) is actually Paris's oldest bridge! This ancient bridge is the connection between two shores of the Siene while bisecting Cite Island. While it's not as ornate as Pont Alexandre III, Pont Neuf is nonetheless a must-see sight while you are walking through Paris. Besides, since it's en route between the Notre Dame Cathedral and Musee Louvre, why not pause for a moment to admire this classic bridge that has stood to serve Parisians for centuries? Thanks to its angle, you can even capture a beautiful shot of the bridge with the famous Eiffel Tower as the backdrop. --- Also please do not be a destructive tourist and add to the annoying "love lock" practice! Parisian authorities already have to remove locks on the nearby Pont de Arts because the weights of the locks will compromise the bridge integrity, so please respect local properties. If you must join collective vandalism by adding a lock to prove love, then you need to re-evaluate your definition of love.

Yelp
I don't know what it is about this "pont", but there's something magical about it. Besides the fact that it is the oldest bridge crossing the river, and that it gives it a certain "je ne sais quai", there's this atmosphere that entangles you and makes you think of all the things that have happened on the bridge and the people who have lived whole lives near this place. I sat down with my girlfriend on one of the stone benches and we started creating romantic stories on behalf of the inhabitants of Paris - and on our own behalfs of course - and ultimatey created our own little magical intimate moment, right in the center of Paris. So, like I said, there's something magical about it.

Yelp
Reviewing a bridge, seriously? You'd better believe I am, this is one of my favorite landmarks in Paris. Some of my favorite memories in the city are of watching the world go by during the day from the top, and watching the lights of the city dance underneath it at night (with a bottle of wine or two of course). You get a pretty remarkable view of the city from the center of this bridge; its a really good spot to reflect on just how old Paris really is, especially if you compare it to any city in the States. The bridge itself is over 400 years old; it's seen kings and emperors like Louis XV and Napoleon rise and fall, the Eiffel Tower be built (cool view of the top at night), Nazis invade during WWII (damn Hitler), and the city shine thanks to electricity. Good stuff. Walk from down the span of this ancient bridge as the sun is setting, head to the tip of Île de la Cité with some cheese and wine, and tell me you don't love Paris. (I don't believe you if you say you don't).

Yelp
Like many bridges here, they offer a nice view to take pictures. This bridge also has a memorial Statue équestre d'Henri IV. What makes people come here is this is the new spot to put love locks. If you don't have one, there is a vendor nearby selling them!

Yelp
I have several arty loves in life: fountains, sculptures, ties, and bridges. And I'm so disappointed with Pont Neuf. I appreciate it's important in being the oldest standing bridge across the Seine, as well as being basically split into two sets of arches. But that's it. It's so hyped up i was expecting something special or awe inspiring (I've only seen some fairly rubbish pics of it before) , but i left it feeling quite underwhelmed. Go see Pont Alexandre III instead. That, you won't regret.

Yelp
I mean, I'm a romantic, so this is my sort of thing. You can buy cheap locks from dudes who roam around.

Yelp
This is practically the first bridge / place of significance that we visited upon arrival in Paris. Not just is it an old bridge, it is so old and has a decent history behind it and us coming from New Zealand it is great to stand on such a historical structure as ours back home are few. When we went it was not too busy , nice to stand and take in the fantastic view. The metro entrance is right at the end of bridge so easy to get to. Oh yeah another thing about it of appeal to me is as I am a huge fan of the Bourne movies it was great to stand here in the very filming spot where Coglan had stood in ambush awaiting Bourne but unbeknownst to him Bourne was watching from above and so well aware of Coglan's plan. Coglan was so stupid!!! Anyway do put it on your list to visit when here....

Yelp
Nice Bridge Being the oldest bridge in Paris, it deserves a visit. After 400 years, it has many stories to tell.

Yelp
Another bridge in Paris. This one is very nice looking, with it's multiple arches. We visited it first at night, then at least another time to cross it during the day. Another excuse to visit it was because of a scene from the movie, The Bourne Identity. In the scene where Jason Bourne had set up a meeting and the other character lays his coat on the side of the bridge, waiting for him to show up. But Bourne, instead, is standing on the roof of the, now shut down, La Samarataine department store, just off the river. Good movie and that scene stuck. It's been in other movies, most likely romantic, but I haven't seen those, yet. Besides, we were near the bridge. This is the oldest standing bridge across the river Seine. Pay it a visit, whatever your reasons may be.

Yelp
This is one of the many gorgious bridges Paris has to offer. Take a stroll over this beauty and enjoy the view and the scenery. Take a seat and relax, and just absorb the atmosphere here.

Yelp
After seeing many pictures and paintings of this pont it was exhilerating to be there in person and walk that historic bridge. One must also go and have lunch at the infamous Cafe du Pont Neuf. Sit down and take a load off while enjoying a crispy croque Monsieur with the perfect green salad. I also(although quite 'touristy') purchased some Paris coasters and small paintings as souvenirs from the local vendors lining the quai. The bridge is also very well situated and within a few minutes walking to the Louvre.
google avatar

Kelly G.

Yelp
The locks are gone except at certain places but there are still signs of people leaving their love marks along the bridge.
google avatar

Yelp
Everyone's goal in life should be to take a walk through Paris near dusk and end at the Pont Neuf bridge as the sun sets, there's no better places on this earth. There's the Louvre on the left, Musee d'Orsay on the right, several other bridges covering the Seine in front, the Eiffel Tower off in the distance, and you can see all the way to the Grand Palais! I don't think there's a better place in Paris that provides so many great sights at ground level than at Pont Neuf. I remember David McCullough mentioning this bridge in an interview many years ago and raving about it and he's absolutely right. This is a must stop in Paris!
google avatar

Yelp
Pretty! I think it's one of the oldest bridges in Paris? Really enjoyed the intricate carvings on the side of this historical structure, AND it had a really scenic walk over the river too. Basically a great place for photos and a leisurely stroll on your way to Saint Chapelle, Notre Dame, and of course...ice-cream at Berthillon! :D

Yelp
one of the oldest bridges in Paris and it's also the point for the boat ride around the Seine. This bridge is so pretty to look at and it's one of the most romantic bridges in Paris. Worth taking a few photos of and walking across.

The oldest bridge in Paris and once the only way in to Paris! Must see!

Yelp
Oldest bridge in Paris. My favorite one as well. Beautiful landscape. Panoramic view on the Seine river, Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum, and much more!

Jonathan J.

Yelp
It's a very attractive bridge- from the right to left bank (well, that's obvious!)- crossing over the western tip of the Ile de la Cite. It was restored from roughly 1999 to 2007. There's a statue of King Henri IV on it and you can go down steps to the Square de Vert Galant, named after Henri IV, who had a reputation as a philanderer. The Square is a very pretty park. Great views to the west of the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and the Institute de France. Good starting place for a tour of the Ile de la Cite. You get the vedettes de pont neuf (tour boats) here. Definitely worth a visit!
